As an avid Yelp reviewer, I am also an avid Yelp user. If I am in an area looking for the best XYZ, I put faith in my peers reviews as I would hope they would put faith in mine. While exploring the many museums across the University of Texas campus, a quick caffeine break was needed for my girlfriend and we were overwhelmed by the number of options on The Drag. It makes sense that there are plenty of places to choose from because of the large number of UT students. Everyone needs a little coffee in their lives. One of the highest reviewed ones with a large pool of ratings was Lucky Lab Coffee and after checking a few quick reviews, we decided to give it a chance. Lucky Lab has five locations in Austin (four on campus) and one location in Dripping Springs. The one we were at off The Drag was their flagship. This location serves a little bit of everything from sandwiches to pastries, salad to quiche, and of course, coffee. As we walked inside the flagship, it is easy to notice how tight the space is. There is very little seating inside at their bar, but they make up for it with plenty of shaded outdoor space that is perfect for a nice day. Scanning their menu, we landed on some drinks from their winter menu. I was intrigued by their Pomegranate Rosemary Latte while my girlfriend tried their Ginger Spice Mocha. We got them both iced. First, it is interesting to see the fusion of pomegranate and rosemary in a latte. I was intrigued by those flavors. Their drink sizes are 12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz, each adding an additional 50 cents to each upgrade. All milk alternatives cost 1 dollar. It was only a short wait to get our coffees and the cup with the little lab on it was cute. I think specialty drinks have an opportunity to be amazing and one of a kind or the worst drink imaginable. This pomegranate rosemary latte did not fall into either category exactly, but leaned more toward the latter. I love pomegranates and I always appreciate how earthy rosemary can be in a coffee. One of my favorite lattes I have ever had has rosemary in it. This was just not working for me. I shamefully did not finish my coffee. As for my girlfriend, she did not like her ginger spice mocha. I could not imagine gingerbread syrup not working in a mocha, but after trying it myself it was not for me either. It seems like a perfect match, but here the gingerbread is competing with the chocolate and instead of complementing each other they clash. She told me that the flavors were "un-mocha like". She drank less than half of her coffee before tossing it as well. Neither of us wanted to dislike Lucky Lab. They seem well established and I felt like they were trustworthy based on reviews, but I wonder what these previous reviewers were tweaking on or what magical concoction of coffee granted from heaven above they were sipping on because we were distraught by how disappointing these drinks were. I would like to give Lucky Lab Coffee Co the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the specialty drinks were not up to par with their traditional beverages. However, the almost 30 different syrup options on their wall make me feel they lack a little focus and try too hard to stand out. They lose what makes a coffee good, which is coffee. I want to say I will give them a second shot in the future to see if it was just an off day or a bad beverage pick. Too many shots turns a Lucky Lab into Old Yeller. I tried this coffee shop as it was walking distance from my hotel. It was off of the beaten path with outdoor walk up and interior ordering capabilities. There was indoor and outdoor seating as well. I ordered a coffee and a strawberry oat bar and both were very good. The server was nice and patient as I ordered. I definitely recommend.
My bfs family member took us here to grab a coffee and some snacks before our campus tour! I got the following: * red velvet cookie $3.50 * Natalie orange mango $4.50
I don't like lattes. But I like every latte from lucky lab. Get anything. You won't regret it. Coffee is incredibly important in my life. I love the art of it. The smell of it in the morning. The brewing process and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with making a wonderful cup of coffee which is why I adore black coffee. Yet, somehow, each time I've come to Lucky Lab, they continue to blow my socks off with each season drink and bakery item available. Everything is wonderfully crafted and tastes wonderful. There's usually a line about 5-10 minutes long but when it's finally your turn it feels every time I'm met with such a warm greeting and told to take me time. I love a place with good service and food. The seating isn't ideal as there's limited space and where there is seating it's along a wire fence that makes me feel claustrophobic. But still worth it. Highly recommend.
I was enraptured with the divine smell of baked goods coming from their shop. Helpful staff guiding me to a less sweet alternative to their spring menu offerings. Enjoyed my honey lavender latte, just the right dash of sweetness.
This place is so cute!! A girls breakfast coffee date would be perfect. They have a wide variety of coffee and tea options along with sweet treats and breakfast. The service was fast and it was busy. They have an awesome outdoor sitting area or you can sit inside as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here! As a Californian, I can say I'm a sucker for aesthetic decor, lovely atmosphere, and dogs. Coffee baristas were sweet and the coffee was delicious! I got a basic latte. Cant go wrong with coming! Plenty of study places indoor and out.
I've heard some great things about this place and was super happy when I finally got around to trying it out and the people are super friendly! The Chai was awesome, it was just super hot to really enjoy the flavor. The selection was small but it all sounded like it packed a bunch flavor! They had a big water jug outside with cups and napkins which I think I enjoyed more since I walked there in the heat when the temp was triple digits.
The Vibe: Escape your worries, fears and email inbox. Though the interior is small, the outdoor seating is plentiful and almost always has a dog chilling just waiting for ear scratches. The space is always clean and well taken care of despite all the traffic they get. I can rally pass a whole afternoon here. The coffee/drinks: I am a sucker for a seasonal menu and they know it. Always something new to try and a flavor adventure to be had. They are very creative with their combinations. Many be if the coffee lattes tend to be too subtle for me but the Cherry Basil Chai I had today live up to its name and I liked it. The food: you cannot go wrong everything has been amazing but I rarely get anything besides the Salami Goat Cheese Croissant because it is just that good.
I usually go for the Iced Dirty Chai here, but today I decided to try the regular Chai Latte--and honestly, I was expecting a bit more. The flavor was weaker than I'd like, and it looked a little too light in color. That said, the Honey Lavender Latte totally made up for it--smooth, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Their pastries are good too, priced but tasty! Service was super kind and efficient. You can either order from the walk-up window or hang out inside. There's also a nice patio with plenty of outdoor seating, perfect for a relaxed coffee break. Typical Austin vibe ambiance.
What a cute little spot and perfect to bring our pup! He's a lab mix so naturally had to take him to lucky lab :) they had a bowl of water outside and dog treats so he was a happy boy Service was great, I was super indecisive between all their latte flavors and baked goods (they all look so good) and she helped share some favorites! What we ordered -- Both the coffees we tried, we really liked! We got the winter specials: campfire sweet cream latte and blood orange clove. Both were tasty! The flavors are subtle though and I wouldn't have minded if they were a bit bolder We also got the turkey croissant which comes with cheese and on a jalapeño croissant, yum! This was fantastic Lastly and my favorite purchase, the lavender lemon hand pie. The hand pies look like pop tarts but taste way better. This was bursting with flavor and both the lavender and lemon flavors shine through! It's a great spot to read or just soak up the sun with your pup. Will def be back!
I love Lucky Lab--I go there often for work meetups or lunch breaks, and it never disappoints! If you go, you must try their breakfast sriracha bacon sandwich--it's absolutely delicious. It's also really nice seeing the owners there; they have such a sweet backstory--the place is actually named after their adorable black lab! You can tell they put so much care into the space, which makes it feel even more special. Lucky Lab is also fantastic for catering orders! They make pre-made drinks, and the cardamom one was my favorite--such a unique and flavorful touch. Plus, they have gluten-free cookies, which is always a nice bonus. You can sit inside, but just a heads-up--it's super small and cozy. Luckily, there's plenty of outdoor seating, with picnic-style benches and smaller tables to choose from. The staff here are always so friendly, and if you bring your pup, they'll be sure to show them some love! If you're looking for a dog-friendly coffee shop with great food, drinks, and a welcoming vibe, this is the spot.
In town to visit UT Austin campus and thought I'd stop by to check out a local popular coffee spot with students. Tried the iced southern pecan latte which was made quickly but was pretty disappointed with the taste. For $7, the flavor wasn't unique at all and tasted like a normal sweetened latte.

Personally, I don't drink much coffee. But my wife is a fan so we checked this place out. I loved the layout. The inside is small and quaint. The outdoor seating is huge. They have a patio with seats outside the venue. There's also an open outdoor area with food truck options. The service was great and the staff were friendly. My wife tried the Blueberry Matcha Lemonade with Cold Foam. She said it was different from other coffee flavors she has tried at other places and she enjoyed it. We would definitely go back to try more items on the menu. read more
got the salted caramel oat shaken espresso and THIS WILL be my go to order from now on. also got a breakfast sandwich and was kind of old, but i got it during lunch time. they had a huge line, but staff was very helpful and recommended me their favorite options. read more

Easily became one of the best Austin, TX coffee shops during my visit and came nearly everyday for something new Drinks: Honey Nut Latte, Thai Brew, Matcha Lavender Honey Nut Latte had real honey and hazelnut paired with almond milk. It was not too watery which I was worried about based on other reviews and it was light ice even without asking to avoid dilution (noted they listened to customer's critiques - we love). The combination ratios were perfectly executed and the espresso was sharp & bold for a days work. I was able to taste all undertones Thai Brew with almond milk (instead of half & half) had a concentrated Thai tea and in house cold brew. The cold brew was smooth & not acidic, which was lightened with the thai tea. This was immaculate & exceeded my day prior judgement toward it lol Matcha Lavender with almond milk had their in house lavender syrup and generous portion of matcha. I have never been a fan of lavender but really exceptional coffee shops will win me over which this wasn't my favorite here. But I respect the vision (+) in house syrups and Pacific brand alternative milks over Califia Farms Pastry: Lemon Blueberry and Strawberry Hand pie aka adult pop-tart. They both had countryside authentic filling like a pie and flakey crust. Both were delicious, but yet to beat is from Sagebush Coffee Shop in AZ (the gold standard). Environment: I loved the outside ambiance reminded me of a cute barn picnic setting with floral & plants. The inside is small but the bar seating was perfect entertainment to observe them make your drinks. Walkable from campus, accommodating to all parties and dog friendly Service: I had a new barista each time I went and all were so amicable, thoughtful in recommending, eager and friendly. Never felt rushed rather social and patient. They offered a loyal rewards card too Overall: I will be looking forward to coming back when I visit the sibling at UT again in Spring! All my Californians will know about this place when I return home. read more
Nice coffee shop hidden away off the Drag. They have a large outside area so there shouldn't be an issue finding a place to sit. There is an inside area as well, but we did not check it out. They have the standard coffee menu along with a seasonal one with lots of fun options such as a Cold Foam Blueberry Matcha and a S'mores Cold Brew. I ordered the iced Strawberry Rose Latte with almond milk. It was unique and tasty. I heard they have coffee flights but I wasn't up for spending $20 that day. I stuck with my $8 latte instead. One recommendation for the coffee shop: please put the prices of your items on the seasonal menu. We all know coffee drinks aren't cheap, but no one likes a surprise total. read more

Lucky Lab has such a lovely patio/courtyard for a beautiful day out to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. The baristas here were so kind and sweet and gave me their recommendations on the menu for their favorite drinks. But I'm a pretty avid coffee drinker and so I think these drinks just didn't hit the mark for me. They were pretty watery and bland, lacked strength, depth, and flavor. I love the concept and thought put into the drink ideas though, just needs some work! read more

The three different muffins I ordered via Door Dash were completely stale and inedible. On a Saturday. How do muffins even get stale on a Saturday? When were they baked? I called to let Lucky Lab know and the woman who answered the phone was surprisingly rude and said, "We can't do anything about that. You have to call Door Dash." I replied, "I'm taking the time to call Lucky Lab because the food came from y'all and that's a quality control issue. I thought you'd be interested to know that I received inedible food." But she was clearly not. My first and last time ordering anything from Lucky Lab. read more

This drink is featured on their spring menu so I decided to try it out and I'm very glad I did This coffee had subtle notes of cinnamon and coconut. It also had coconut milk in it #healthqueen This is my first time trying Lucky Lab and I love the vibe :) Everything is so cute and the outside sitting area is the perfect spot to do homework. 12/10- will definitely be back soon read more

It is a really cute spot for coffee tasting! They have comfortable outdoor seating where you can even bring your furry friend along with you :) We opted for the coffee flights, and the service was absolutely fantastic! The person who took our order was incredibly patient and friendly, especially considering it was our first time there. However, I must admit that the latte drinks were not their best. Unfortunately, they were quite watered down, resulting in a taste reminiscent of iced coffee. BUT their honey oat matcha was an absolute standout! Without a doubt, it was one of the best matcha lattes I've had in Austin, TX so far. If you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend giving it a try. Additionally, their tea and refresher selections are worth exploring. Overall, this charming spot offers a pleasant ambiance for studying, catching up with friends, indulging in coffee-tasting adventures, or even enjoying a nice date! read more
Great experience and insta worthy coffee and treats! I really enjoyed that you could mix and match a coffee flight instead of them being preselected. We were able to tailor it to our taste and preference. Such a great idea as I always want to try a coffee but scared I won't like it and will have to drink a whole glass of something I wasn't looking for. Love the flexibility to try stuff. I also got a strawberry pastry pocket which was exactly like a homemade pop tart. It was so good! They had a few different options for them, including a savory option with turkey. There was a decent line of 7 or so pairs or people ahead of us on a Sunday mid afternoon. The line goes fast and the woman working the counter was on top of it! She was taking orders and payments and also calling out names for items that were ready to get picked up from the window. They eventually also had someone on the side of the building entryway calling out completed orders as well to help. Inside and out it was clean and picked up, especially the bathrooms. We sat outside in the mixed patio. The price seems a little steep for being around campus, but the quality is pretty high and they have a great variety of options for drinks and bakery. You can also preorder online to come pick it up. You cannot experience the coffee flight with ordering online. read more

Drinks : 10/10 I love the variety this place provides!! Only place I've found in Austin that lets you order a flight of different coffees. Good portions too! Can be shared or ordered for you. Service 10/10 : very friendly team members Ambiance 10/10 : I've sat outside with my dog before and also sat inside on days to focus on a reading or work. Love the energy here! Pro: they have cute gear for purchase & little treats for your dog :) We use to walk over here often back when we lived downtown. Absolutely LOVE lucky lab! The coffee and pastries are so good - and reasonably priced ($4.25 for a signature latte) compared to other coffee shops. What to order: Hand-pies - the blueberry is incredible! Love the seasonal lattes!! They are always switching it up so there is something new to try. Vanilla cold brew with soy milk - yes you heard that right they have soy milk!! The line is sometimes long - but don't worry! The staff is so incredible and gets you in and out in no time at all. The staff is so kind and sweet - they are always willing to make adjustments to your coffee if needed (i.e. add some more vanilla). They sometimes run really good promotions so make sure to follow them on Instagram so you don't miss anything! Walking distance from UT. Indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly. 10/10 recommend - you have to go try Lucky Lab!! read more
Honey Rosemary Latte: 9/10 I wasn't sure if I liked rosemary and was a bit skeptical at first but the honey definitely came through and made this so refreshing and delicious. If you're a die hard rosemary fan I wouldn't recommend it. Vanilla Lavender Sweet Cream Latte: 5/10 This latte had potential but it's just way too milky. It's also lacking on the lavender a bit. If lavender wasn't mentioned in the title I'd have no idea it was part of the recipe. It's definitely "creamy" as described but I feel like I've just taken a big gulp of half and half after every sip. Thai Brew: 8/10 I'm a sucker for a good Thai Tea- especially with boba so I had to try a Thai Brew. It's definitely giving Thai Tea flavor! It doesn't have very much of the milky taste that a thai tea would cause there's only a splash of half and half but it's delicious. If you're in the mood for a tradition thai tea but need an extra boost of caffeine I'd definite recommend. Honey Grapefruit Limeade: 8/10 Wow what a citrusy combination! It was refreshing and tart. Definitely a jaw zinger but super yummy. All in all, would I spend the $22 for this flight again? Probably not but it was a good tasting this time around. read more
