This is a fun place to come on a Sunday morning for breakfast. They offer a variety of great tasting breakfast burritos/sandwiches and drinks. They specialize in all natural products ranging from the coffee to the ketchup. I've had the juevos rancheros before and absolutely loved them. The only negative to this place is that the service is a little on the slow side and they forgot one of my drinks after asking several times for it. After going to the Farmer's Market (under the JFX), I headed over to Spoons for a slight Sunday Funday. It was SCRUMPTIOUS!! A small cafe, the place is decorated with beautiful artwork and a home kitchen feel. For drinks we had coffee and pineapple jalapeño mimosas. Such a unique, yet delicious flavor! For food, we got the Fried Oysters and Grits which honestly I've never seen in a menu before. The grits were creamy and cheesy, the oysters were fried to perfection and the mushroom essence was the perfect compliment. E also tried the Risotto Benedict which was yummy-- a perfect balance of egg, risotto and prosciutto. Lastly, we ordered the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. These were the star of the show! I used to LOVE Spoons, love love love. But I went this past Saturday morning - I took my brother, in from out of town, with me because I wanted him to taste the amazing food. Well, we put in our order, were given coffee and an hour later, we got up and left because our food had never arrived. Our waitress neglected to check on us, refill our water, and when we flagged another server down to ask about our food and the waitress finally came over to our table, she wasn't apologetic nor concerned. Worst service ever. We ended up walking out and I won't be going back, which makes me sad. This place does have great eats, just crappy wait staff. read more

We live in Canada and wanted to order breakfast to be delivered to our daughter for her birthday. The staff went above and beyond to help us make this happen. Such a disappointment! Probably the worst brunch that I've had in Baltimore. To be fair... The pros: comfortable, coffee house atmosphere; interesting local artwork on the walls; decent jazzy music; mimosas made with any of their available juices. Now the cold, honest truth... The cons: The food is awful! Burned, disgusting coffee (surprising, considering they tout themselves as a coffee house); overcooked eggs; burned pancakes and potatoes. The only decent part of the four meals we ordered was my french toast (part of the 2-2-2 combo), which still wasn't anything special. Service was ok. A total "Becky's mom" hostess, who was missing the majority of her teeth, took our name, seated us after a cigarette outside, and later had an argument with the cook in full view of all the patrons. Waitress was nice, but not incredibly attentive. I would not recommend Spoons for brunch or even for coffee. There are much better coffee houses and brunch restaurants in the city, especially in Fed Hill. Go elsewhere. The servers wear t-shirts emblazoned with "Spoon Me." Seriously, I need someone to spoon me for comfort after such an awful brunch experience. read more

It's more of a cafe than a restaurant, with only seating for about 40 people. Being such a popular brunch spot, come early, or come late, avoid the rush! Ordered a Chai Latte (waaaaaaay better than the Starbucks)...and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of pancakes. I tried the buckwheat blueberry pancakes, , while my sister ordered the plain buttermilk pancakes. Among the throng of bars in Fed Hill, there's a cute little coffee shop that could easily be missed if you're not looking for it. And when I'm in the mood for brunch, it is easily my favorite spot in Fed Hill. Spoons is not your traditional brunch place though, because in addition to great food and drinks, they also roast their own coffee beans and while I didn't order a cup of coffee on this visit, I can attest that they brew a great cup! After a quick morning walk around the neighborhood, my friend and I decided to pop into Spoons for something to eat. We were in the mood for something deliciously unhealthy because we just worked out a little, so what better way to negate all of that exercise than with an order of the O-Nuts. O-Nuts are Baltimore-style cinnamon beignets topped with powdered sugar. We split the small order which was only 3 beignets and more than enough for the two of us. They were light and sweet and not greasy in the slightest which was amazing because I know these were deep-fried. My friend was interested in continuing her unhealthy quest through the Spoons menu and decided to order the Crunchy French Toast which is french toast dipped in corn flakes. (If you're interested in another french toast dipped in cereal, consider Captain Crunch French Toast at Blue Moon Cafe.) The french toast was great and the portion size is quite large for only $8. I love a good egg dish, so I decided to order the Steak Fajita Breakfast Burrito. Inside the burrito was scrambled eggs, onion, peppers, cheddar cheese, salsa verde and I swapped the steak for bacon. I really liked the dish, however the egg to tortilla ratio was insane so I ended up taking the eggs out of the wrap to finish the dish. It was good, but I'd probably try something else next time. My breakfast burrito came with a side of Potatoes. I'm not a huge fan of potatoes but these were pretty good, seasoned nicely and cooked well. While I love Spoons and will gladly come in any day of the week for their delicious brunch, their hours are horrible. Came here for brunch and had the 2-2-2. It was fairly early so no need for reservations (around 915ish). Although I didn't partake they had $4 array of mimosas which is worth a return trip. The breakfast items are served all day and it is a good selection. I had scrambled eggs, turkey sausage and the lemon blueberry quinoa pancakes, very flavorful. The place is small and homey feeling. I used to love this place and decided to take my mom here for breakfast. I went to wash my hands and my mom came into the bathroom to inform me that the cooks were talking on there phones, eating food, touching one another and handling customers food. I was shocked because I never experienced this before at this establishment so I had to take a look for myself. Sure enough the gentleman with the tattoos on his face was eating a egg sandwich and then proceeded to wipe his NOSE ( all with no gloves) and the female cook was touching all over her phone and plating a guest meal. ALL WITH NO GLOVES AND EVEN IF THEY HAD GLOVES THEY PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER TRASHED THEM AFTER ENCOUNTERING HUMAN BODY PARTS AND DIRTY PHONES!!!!! THIS IS A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION!!! I will be reporting them. This is so nasty and disgusting! I will never eat here again. Sad part is they have a open kitchen so you can see everything. I've been here for brunch twice now, and both times I've been pretty pleased. On a Saturday or Sunday you should be prepared to wait, but it's nothing compared to the madness of the infamous Miss Shirely's - it's usually a far more bearable 20-30 minutes before being seated, less for a party of just two. On the first occasion I had the apple, walnut and brie pancakes - every bit as savory as they sound. I was at first disappointed that the brie wasn't baked in, but it was warm and spreadable. On the second, I went for the cast iron waffle - I expected a pretty standard waffle, but was surprised by just how damn good it was. I ordered warm cinnamon apples for the top, which smelled amazing and tasted great at first, but ended up with just a bit too much cinnamon for me. We also shared an order of the "O"-nuts, which are absolutely amazing little nuggets of friend dough coated in powdered sugar - I absolutely recommend them. There were a couple of items on the menu that looked outstanding (Fried green tomato BLT), and I wish that I had ordered them instead of my omelet. My friend and I both got omelets, and both were way overcooked. Mine was so dry that the two sides of the half-circle didn't fuse together and it flipped right open when I tried to cut and eat it. Omelet was also cheap on toppings (cheese, veggies, etc.), but coffee was good. Sides for omelet were uninspired (toast and potatoes). Don't think I'll come again... I could have made myself a better omelet for under 2 bucks... totally not worth the $15. read more

When I walked in, the ambiance was cute, casual and the aroma filled my lungs. I sat at the bar and quickly ordered a latte... delicious! Pros: the hip servers are a really cool mix of friendly and idgaf, so you never feel annoyed by their presence but you also don't feel threatened by their mustaches and joggers. I recommend the maple-glaze bacon-Infused pancakes (really great for inducing jealousy via snapchat). Cons: the cold brew coffee is delicious but more expensive than Starbucks (which, like, if you're a *real* coffee person, isn't even that good). This can also be a pro, though, because your friends will ALL know you're drinking expensive cold brew coffee. Also, they don't have a liquor license. Hope this helps. Based off of other reviews and virtually no word of mouth, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from Spoons. However, this was one of the best brunches I've had in a while. I'm wondering if its under new management or something, because the other reviews (hipster? daycare center?) don't reflect my experience here at all. Our waitress was super sweet and for some reason I was in an EXTREMELY indecisive mood, but she stuck with me. I ordered the crab frittata, which I was expecting to come out as a slice, but it was actually an individual frittata (pretty big) in a cast-iron personalized pot thing. It was delicious, as was the cereal french toast (insane) and home fries. The mimosas were top notch and my pumpkin latte came topped with a little foam heart. I docked one star because the food was super duper slow to come out. I can't wait to go back and hopefully update to 5 stars! read more

First timer and I must say I was pleased! I'm a breakfast connoisseur so breakfast was in my quest for the day. Let me just say even the water was Delish! Oh and they have tasty cocktails as well. I had the drink made with Rum Chata can't remember the name of it but it was tasty! And the hubs had I believe it was like a jungle punch but it was good and fruity! I loved the atmosphere, it wasn't crowded as the other reviews suggested however I went early morning on a Monday so things may be different on other days. To the food- one word Dynamite! I had to the 2x2x2 and he had the BEAST!!! Both were delish but that BEAST was everything! A must try! Overall great food, drink and great customer service! I've had New Orleans' beignets and I've had Spoon's version of a beignet (though I don't think they classify it as that on their menu). It was actually really good. The balance of cinnamon and powdered sugar with the deep fried dough was beautiful. I wish they had been bigger, but that's my stomach speaking. Their mimosas were delicious too, but it's hard to go wrong with those. I ordered their french toast, which was simple but did the job. The eggs were good, bacon good, sausage good, toast good. I would hope those were easy enough to make. All in all, it was fairly simple breakfast fare, with the exception of the tongue-satisfyingly scrumptious beignet things. I felt strange walking on Cross St before 9am on a Saturday also because it was deserted! Spoons is a small breakfast restaurant the width of two row homes. Due to their small seating area the wait can be quite lengthy especially as it gets later in the morning. I got the 2-2-2 (2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, & 2 pancakes). I am very particular about my eggs (its a texture thing) and they were cooked perfectly! As was the bacon, just crispy enough but not too crispy where it would shatter if I dropped it on the plate. I definitely recommend Spoons for a casual breakfast with a friend (not enough room for groups) and suggest getting there early! read more

This is a great little place for breakfast or brunch. We recently stopped by for a weekday/holiday breakfast. We were seated right away but there were a fair amount of fellow breakfast goers. We started with coffee which was served right away. To eat, we had the fried chicken wafflewich- basically a take on chicken and waffles - a fried chicken breast in between two waffles served with an apple syrup. I preferred maple syrup, but other than that it was an excellent combination of sweet and salty. We also had the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs over medium. Yum. Biscuits were delicious and the gravy full of meat. Our final breakfast goer had the traditional buttermilk pancakes which were also quite tasty - a full stack of three was a filling meal. I was attracted to this restaurant for weekend brunch because of the attractive menu options. The real entrees were not as tasty as portrayed. I judge good restaurant food on the taste and quality for the price. If it knocks my socks off or the prep is too much work for me to do at home, it will win me over. This, however, tasted like an untrained cook could make: grilled chicken rolled up in a tortilla with tossed lettuce. The waitress was VERY slow and a bit aloof. Tables of 2 seated next to us were served first and it took well over 10 minutes to receive standard drinks. It took nearly an hour and a half to eat breakfast. I was very disappointed. Boo! This is by far one of the best breakfast experiences I have had within Baltimore City! Walked in to a seat yourself policy and quickly found a table. The dining area is neat, clean, warm, and decorative. My guest and I all ordered the 2-2-2, two with french toast, one with cast iron waffle, our choice of meat, and eggs any style. Everything came out timely and beautifully. The coffee is bottomless and the stand with coffee fixing was more than accommodating. For three people out price was more than reasonable for three meals, beverages, tip, and excellent service all for $50. I will absolutely be returning again hungry and ready to try something new! Their "Chider" drink (apple cider, chai) was miserable. I'd like to say tasteless, but unfortunately there was a taste: piss-poor. The drink was miserably hot and the flavors collided in such a fashion that reminded me of regurgitated vomit. I ordered a "barnyard fry", a sandwich that was way too hot to eat even after 20 minutes of letting it sit. The fries that accompanied it were soggy and greasy, not crisp as they should be. My companion had an omelette, which was a disappointment for multiple reasons: 1) It was greasier than a desperate used car salesman, and 2) the accompanying sides were very misleading, to the point where the dish excluded potatoes and toast due to a misplaced comma. Overall: You don't need to spend your money here. If you want a greasy diner feel with large portions, just go to IHOP. Don't waste your time and money at a downtown cafe that's supposed to be held to a higher standard than a chain diner. read more

The service has always been great for us too - very speedy even given the busy nature of the restaurant. Food wise, the crunchy French toast is my favorite breakfast item but they have great omelets too.
