I had the Southern Slammer Sandwich (with the grits) and my sister had the Fried Chicken, Biscuit and Gravy Omelet (with the hash browns). We couldn't stop saying how good they were! The service was on point, everyone was very nice, and the noise level was fine. Here is something I literally have never experienced anywhere else: My sister has a couple of food allergies and she gave the waitress a piece of paper where she listed out what she can and cannot have. A few minutes later, a lovely young woman (I think she said she was a manager) came out and discussed the list with my sister in detail, just to make sure the restaurant got it exactly right. My sister almost cried! As far as timing goes: They don't take reservations, but they have an efficient system -- when you arrive, they take down your name and phone number, tell you how long the wait will be, and then text you when it's your turn. They told us 40 minutes but it turned out to be only 20, so it's good we hadn't wandered too far away. Next time we're in Baltimore, we'll definitely be back. read more

I know this Maryland favorite . However,my food was very disappointing I sent two entrees back . I ordered the "great your grits on " blackened salmon no blackened seasoning they use oldbay. The waiteness suggested the fried chicken gravy omelette under cooked and chicken was hard . When cut the omelette eggs started running .This also was sent back .Buffalo Shrimp Deviled Egg Platter . Was ok great presentation however need some salt and mayonnaise not creamy .The manager was great was still trying to satisfy me I keep my grits and ordered a side of bacon . I also be careful in which garage you park in because they don't validate all garages . African American entrees but the seasoning wasn't good. I'm sorry oldbay is not answer . Miss Shirley's was theeeeee perfect Saturday breakfast/brunch spot to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We had heard great things about this spot from our realtor and used the occasion as an opportunity to check it out! from the second we walked in to Miss Shirley's, the vibe felt warm and inviting. They were playing oldies, it was cozy inside, and after coming in from the freezing cold it honestly felt like a much needed hug. When you walk in, one thing you can't miss is how many awards they have posted all over the walls (especially if your entire party isn't there as they don't seat without the whole party being there and you have to sit in the waiting area up front). This restaurant has a million awards and articles highlighting their crab cakes. After seeing all the buzz on the wall, we came in to the restaurant excited to order the crab cake Benedict, only to find out they no longer serve crab cakes. Our waitress explained that they removed them because they weren't meeting the restaurant's "standard," which I guess I respect, but we were still genuinely so sad because that's what we were most looking forward to. Thankfully, their menu is full of amazing sounding meals and we're still able to end up having a really good meal. One person in our group ordered the shrimp and grits, two of us got the chicken and waffles and swapped the honey mustard aioli for hot honey, and the fourth ordered the banana bread French toast. Overall everything was tasty, but the chicken on the chicken and waffles was a little overcooked and tough, which was the only real downside. The clear star of the table was the shrimp and grits. The plating was unique and really tasteful, and it somehow elevated such a classic comfort dish. It was honestly some of the best shrimp and grits I've had up north. We also ordered a side of hash browns and those were amazing too, super crispy and satisfying. Service was another big highlight. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, and we felt taken care of the entire time. It is a Baltimore icon for a reason! The Inner Harbor location is just as good as the original too. True, parking can be tricky, but there are plenty of public garages within a short walk. The food... stellar. Just be warned, the portions are huge!! So, if the prices seem a touch high, keep in mind, you'll easily have two meals from one entrée! The service was good, very quick, and very friendly. The location is perfect too, right at the end of the main stretch of the inner harbor walk (Pratt Street). We went during the holiday season, and the seasonal offerings were really good! Their main menu is always delectable though. It was a tough decision! I was recommended this spot for breakfast by a former local. It did not disappoint. The honey hot deviled eggs had just enough kick that it could be easily tamed by the sweet honey. The restaurant was just about full when we arrived at 11. The menu offers both breakfast and lunch items at that time. I opted for the blackened shrimp and grits. It really was a beautiful presentation that looked like a work of art. It also tasted great. The mound of grits sat on a fried green tomato and sitting on the mound of grits were two delicious pieces of shrimp. My husband had the hot honey fried chicken wrap. It was a huge portion and he could only finish half of it. Side choices included hash browns, grits, salad or broccoli salad. He went with the hash browns and they were also a very big portion. Everything's been said about Miss Shirley's Cafe so I'll just talk about myself. I might need more glamorous profile photos since I only got one like in 9 years on my last Shirley's review. Sure, it's flattering that fake-seeming bots send me DMs, but what I can really use is some better review metrics. The Crabby Omelet was action-packed. Even the cheddar is crabby and the grits are more vivid than usual. It's best to go on the crab side of things but if you don't dig on crustaceans at least stick to the oven-mitt logo entrees. Don't miss the stunning grapefruit brulee. I haven't sampled the Kid's Boxes but can verify that years ago, a customer around two years old was absolutely thrilled with the visual aspect before taking a bite, rapidly waving his hands. I think I would probably order differently, and just have different expectations of the restaurant. The host was amazing and was already preparing kids activities for us, once he saw us outside the door. It was our servers Birthday and she ran her section like a pro. We had vegetable omelet, biscuit and side salad and the banana split parfait with vanilla yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, raisan granola and pineapple ring. Service was friendly and helpful, and the latest menu looked pretty good (although there were missing my all-time favorite menu option of bbq Mac&cheese). Hot sauce helped a lot, but the chicken in the omelet had zero seasoning on it, and the veggies didn't help much. It came with okra, a stuffed olive, a lemon and lime wedge, and a slice of green tomato. The Sunrise Mimosa ($12) was okay not the best. Unfortunately, if you need to use the restroom, you need to take the elevator to the third floor to the sky lobby because they do not have one at the restaurant. Honestly, not much has changed in 10+ years in terms of how hard it is to find a solid gluten free breakfast. BUT Miss Shirley's gives you a little bit of everything and I could not be more grateful for that! I don't think anyone offers the options they do. The menu for GF folks is ample, marked right on the standard menu so no need to ask for a special menu or struggle to figure out what you can and cannot have. I branched out a little this time and tried the Breakfast Tower I think, has plain GF pancakes (although the flavored ones are amazing!), grits, bacon, deviled eggs, and a delicious strawberry mocktail. First, while I get things cost more these days it is outrageous to charge $20 for a breakfast bowl that's mostly corn and one egg and no other protein. Mine ended up being almost $25 with the add ons. As for taste, it was meh. Needed a lot of salt and pepper. The turkey sausage was good but everything else was bland. While in Baltimore, I did some research on Yelp (of course), and found this staple. I was really impressed with the history behind the name. The service was absolutely nothing less than perfect,, the food was fresh, tasty, and unique. If we're ever back in Baltimore, we would definitely stop by Ms. Shirley's again. And they must do some serious business because they had four eating areas, one of them was a large overflow. It looked like it was previously a different restaurant because it was across the hall from the main entrance. So they do pretty well. read more

Miss Shirley's blew me away. Far from being a greasy breakfast diner, the food hit the perfect balance of seasoning, spice, and oil. It's tough to achieve breakfast flavors without going overboard on fat and salt, but they did it. Upon arrival, I was promptly seated with a kind server. The decor was clean and classic American without gimmick. I ordered the fried chicken, biscuits and gravy omelette and found it to exceed my expectations. The fried chicken was more lean protein and light on the breading, so it aligned with healthy eating and left me full without the bloat. I enjoyed the appropriate hint of pepper that did not overpower but blended with the palate. I highly recommend the trip to Miss Shirley's, and I look forward to returning year after year. read more
