Stopped here for a late lunch after customer meetings. Yaya was the bartender and she was training Tim. First, Tim will do fine here. He struck up a conversation with me and just has bartender aura. Now on to Yaya. She is really good. Personable. Friendly. Knows her stuff. I was there on 1/2 price mussels. I'm in! I started with a cup of the seafood chowder as Yaya recommended it over the cream of crab. Great choice. Flavorful. Veggies, seafood, and bacon a really nice combo. On to the mussels. Chose the white wine garlic over the Cajun butter and Old Bay butter options, again based on Yaya's recommendation. She said, as much as she loves Old Bay, just too salty on the mussels. These mussels were awesome. The cook knows, if a mussel doesn't open, don't serve it. All were opened and I assume they throw out the ones that don't. A great look! Place is very cool looking. Meet bar. Tables outside. It was slow as I was there for lunch at 2:00 but all in all a really good place and hope you get to meet Yaya if you come in. I am in the BWI area for business every 6 weeks. I have a new go to place, especially on Wednesdays for 1/2 price mussels!!! read more

We had an great lunch date at this cute seafood restaurant. The inside was decorated nicely and on theme, however decided to eat outside due to the great weather. It was clean except for some bird poop on the chairs. Besides for that the staff was kind and the food was yummy. My boyfriend picked 3 flavors of raw oysters from there raw bar: Delaware Bay, Mama's Wild A** Salts and Blue Points. We also got the Crab Dip as an appetizer. The Crab Dip was very good with lumbed crab + creamy cheeses throughout, and it was served in a soft bread bowl. This was one of the best crab dips I've had and would highly recommend! For entrees, I got the Crab Grilled Cheese which was basically the crab dip, cheese, bacon and a slice of tomato on toasted bread. This was good however I would have liked some more lumps of crab to make it meateer. The 2nd entree was the Soft Shell Crab BLT which was a fried soft shell crab, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo on brioche bread. It felt like this sandwich was missing something like a sauce, to tie it all together. The restaurants in a nice location to walk around during the day. I look forward to going back and trying something new. read more

5/5 experience at Mama's on the Half Shell! We came for happy hour and were so pleased with everything. These are the best happy hour oysters we've found in the area so far, and the crab dip was also the best we've had around Baltimore. The seafood in general was all very fresh. Our server, I believe his name was Pedro, was amazing - so kind, attentive, and on top of everything the entire time. Great food, great service, and great happy hour. My only regret is not coming here sooner! We'll definitely be back. read more

I got to visit Mama's on a recent trip to Baltimore and it was a joy. The staff were friendly and the building felt old and lived in. The wood furniture was sturdy and the bar was inviting. I had been told I had to try crab and oysters in Maryland so that is exactly what I did. I had the 30 dollar Monday special which included a crab cake and two sides. I got a Caesar which was large and some broccoli. The crab was plump and filling. The perfect portion. There were also 1 dollar oysters so we got 14 which went down quick and easy. My friend got the crab nachos which were the perfect combination of crunch and salt. If you are in Baltimore I would recommend checking out all the different deals they have here! read more

Love coming here for the happy hour Oysters deal! This is definitely a local favorite for seafood. The servers are awesome and inside looks like you're on a boat. I haven't tried much of the other food here but I love the drinks and one dollar oyster happy hour deal. Not sure if that deal is still the same but when I went it was! read more

Okay first - the cream of crab soup was AMAZING. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos but it was so good with some lumps of crab meat! The crab cake was very good! - but can get pricey $70 for 2 with sides. The Caesar salad was too much dressing - not as light as I would've liked it. The mussels were good but have had better! The Mac and cheese was okay - nothing crazy about it. Next time I'd love to get the soup and crab cake again with different sides! read more

We love this restaurant! It is always wonderful. Always. The oysters were my first course. They are exactly as described on the menu. They were fantastic! My husband and I both ordered a soup. I ordered the cream of crab and he ordered the Maryland crab soup. They were both perfection! For dinner, I ordered the seafood club. Every part of the sandwich was amazing! It was so good! Even the French fries were perfect! The service was stellar. Our waiter was ever present and so helpful. He was amazing. The decor is relaxed and water oriented. It is a lovely environment. Thank you for such and amazing meal Mama's on the half shell! read more

Such a wonderful restaurant! Can be as casual or fancy as you'd like, and our waiter (I believe his name was Brian) was wonderful! The hh mussels were delicious in the garlic white wine sauce. Dipping your side of fries in the sauce once you're done is also extremely delicious! Tenderloin sandwich is pretty delightful as well. Crab grilled cheese is great, although we felt the bacon isn't really necessary. Overall lovely place! read more

Booked a reservation here for my mom's birthday on a Saturday afternoon and we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The dining room is upstairs but the bar and lounge downstairs was pretty full. Everything we tried was delicious. Pretty good variety on the menu it took us a while to decide what to order because we wanted a little bit of everything. Definitely had to get our waitress to give us some suggestions. We started with the crab dip and half n half soup. My 7yo old daughter devoured the dip she said it was so good. Loved that the dip was served in a bread bowl with veggies on the side. The soup was really good with a lot of lump crab meat in it. For entrees my mom had the fried seafood platter that was a huge portion she took most of it home. It came with fried fish, jumbo shrimp, and a crab cake. I had the grilled rockfish that was topped with crabmeat and a lemon garlic sauce with rice pilaf and green beans. Very very delicious. My daughter had the oysters Rockefeller. They were good but just slightly overcooked. read more

I have been here before and this most recent visit, the service was not great. Sad and disappointed that it took over an hour just to get our food. There were two tables who came after us that had gotten their food before us. We had a waitress and she barely checked on us. After we got our food, we never saw her again and the other waitress who was taking care of all the other tables around us was helping us instead. We also ordered a cheesecake to go and it took almost 20 minutes just to get that. Other than that, oysters were good, shrimp po boy was good, as well as the crab grilled cheese. Just wish service was better. read more

TLDR; maybe not the best for delivery (which is all ive had and what this reflects). it's expensive (all seafood is gonna be), so going in might be the way to go here. scheduled a delivery for 5pm, got notification that our order was being picked up around 345pm, so the food definitely wasnt at its peak for consumption. a friend of mine was here from out of town and wanted to try a bunch of crab and lobster items. we spent a lot and got a variety of things. - soft shell crab blt - I love soft shell and this sandwich may have been one of the worst ive had. the bun was good. - crab egg rolls - mushy and honestly just kind of weird - we tried all the soups and they were good! pretty much exactly what you would expect - hot lobster roll - delicious, fries were bad - cold lobster roll - surprised me bc I actually liked it more than the hot (could be delivery vs fresh) - lobster mac and cheese - i really liked this and thought the noodles were perfect for it - crab dip - very meh - ceasar salad - average lots of $$ spent and not a lot of satisfaction read more

Truly a beautiful day of fun in the sun. I ventured out to Mama's on the Half Shell to celebrate oyster week and I was totally satisfied with the results. The Rockefeller oysters were the best I have had yet... the spinach and cheese stuffing was absolutely delicious. The gorgeous weather played a major role in how electric the atmosphere was, and the outside patio was jubilant and filled with patrons. Now for me the raw oyster tower selection pushed my experience over the top. The oysters were fresh and chilled to perfection. And for the record, the menu is filled with a lot more tasty dishes than just oysters... so I encourage you on the next nice day ( over the spring & summer ) to stop by Mama's on the Half Shell for an experience that won't disappoint. read more

Fantastic choice. We were pining for brunch on a busy Saturday afternoon and hadn't made a reservation. Thankful that they were able to squeeze us in at a table at the top of the stairs. Good people watching--out the window to the folks outside below, but also into the kitchen just behind us. We observed a very well-run establishment. Several staff including the manager, who had a great sense of humor and kind-spiritedness, stopped by to check on us. We didnt end up ordering brunch since items on the other menus won us over very quixkly: the crab cake eggrolls (appetizer) and the crab grilled cheese (lunch). Being ambitious, we did ask the server to leave the menu behind, just in case. There was so much deliciousness to choose from But alas, we were satiated. To drink, we skipped the bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Mary and opted instead for a Blood Orange Margarita (which was more berry-like in color) and a Passion Fruit Mezcal Sour. Both were a tad sweet for our preference but very good otherwise. Would definitely recommend and hope to return. read more

This place has the best crushes in Baltimore. Summer is not complete without stopping in at least once. The raw bar is also excellent and the seafood salad is something on my annual summer bucket list. The vibe inside is very old school pub (dark wood, terrible chairs), but the outdoor seating is much more festive. And the bartenders are both super efficient and make very tasty beverages. read more

I brought a friend here for brunch for their birthday per their suggestion. Instead on doing the usual bottomless I chose a crush since I never had one. I got the John Daly and it was delicious. I could see it being extra refreshing on a summer day. I'm not typically a vodka girl but I really enjoyed it. We got the grilled oysters as an appetizer and got two of each topping choice. I was pleasantly surprised by the smoked paprika butter topping. For my entree I got the crab cake Benny. It's hard to turn down a Benny! The Benny was everything I wanted it to be. Our server was patient and nice, we never felt rushed. She also was able to tell us about which menu items were more popular than others. This place has so many good reviews for a reason! Good seafood and good crushes, I'll certainly add this to my Baltimore restaurants list! Cheers! read more

Stopped by for an early lunch, so it was mostly empty. Alex and Stephanie were friendly. They had us take our pick of outdoor and indoor seating (1st and 2nd Floor). We opted to sit indoor, because there was construction going on nearby outside. Got a couple of each of the oysters from the Raw Bar (Mama's Wold Ass. Salts, Shooting Points, Delaware Bay). They were freshly shucked and not too briney. Shooting Points was my favorite of the three. The Cream of Crab (Cup) had nice chunks of crab. A little on the salty side, but the crackers help balance it. Good creamy consistency. The Eastern Shore Cobb Salad also had nice chunks of crab. It was a pretty big portion. The ingredients were fresh and well balanced. There was the perfect amount of dressing. Decent spot to hit if you're in the area! read more

Located in such a cute area of Baltimore, my friend recommended this restaurant for seafood and I was so impressed! I loved the ambiance, victorian style with lots of history on their walls, plus tvs. I sat at the bar and the waiter was really sweet and attentive! As for food, I ordered a crush mocktail, a variety of their oysters - mamas wild ass salts, shoregasms, Delaware bay, blue point, and walrus & carpenter. I slurped the oysters with and without the horse radish and cocktail sauce because it was that fresh. The crab cake was packed with crab meat and the Mac n cheese was perfect. What a great dinner! read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch and had a great visit! John was super attentive, friendly and gave all his recommendations as it was my first time visiting. I settled on the cream of crab soup and the salmon BLT. The cream of crab soup was sweet, creamy and full of crab. It was one of my favorites that I've tried! The salmon BLT sandwich was HUGE! A nice, large piece of salmon with the rest of the fresh ingredients made this meal a 10/10. Would def recommend this spot! read more

Delicious food, great service, and perfect ambience in a cute neighborhood (minus the outdoor bugs). Our party didn't have a reservation but outdoor seating was available (the weather was perfect at early dinnertime). Living in a landlocked state, we ordered a bunch of seafood (lobster, oysters, shrimp, etc.) and they were all so fresh! As for the flavoring, I feel like it was a bit too heavy so they kind of covered up the freshness of the seafood but they were still very good. What bumps this review up is the service! Great wait staff and the cool co-owner even stopped by to chat. read more

Mama's is an iconic staple of Baltimore. Go with family, go with friends, go alone, and every time you will have a great experience. For me it's the fried oyster appetizer (the batter and slaw make it), and a Bloody Mary (both virgin and regular delish). The Chesapeake club, Caesar salad with that olive crostini, seafood pasta, and more. But the service also is amazing! You can also eat outside with a pup, which I've done many times. Really great food and drinks! I've been here multiple times before and have always enjoyed what I've ordered. Oysters are great especially during happy hour. A real deal seafood spot. A little pricey but the quality is unmatched. I got the mussels and I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh they were. The inside is a shotgun style bar with lots of wood. It's always a good day to have some seafood. My friend and I were in the Canton area and decided to grab a bite to eat. This Mamas on the Half Shell location has a few tables and a bar on the lower level for dining. Looks like they have outside dining as an option and an upstairs. I didn't go upstairs so not sure of the layout. I ordered a shrimp po boy and it came with a side of fries. I asked for sweet potato fries but they didn't have that as an option. The po boy comes with cole slaw your choice of shrimp or oysters and spicy mayo. I'm not a fan of spicy food so I asked for the spicy mayo on the side and also asked for a side of garlic aioli. The cole slaw really made the sandwich in my opinion. The fries were seasoned just right. The server was nice and checked on us a few times which I appreciated. To my surprise they automatically include an 18% gratuity no matter the size of your party. Overall decent experience and I would return. read more

I am going to give them a 5 star because of their service (food was fine too) We took our dogs with us and got sat for outdoor seating. All good and dandy ..until one of our dogs had a messy accident right as we sat down (mind you we walked her around first to make sure there was nothing loaded ready to go). We felt mortified but our server Elara was so kind and helpful and brought us cups of water to help wash away the bits of mess that were not pickupable. That's good customer service. Food was good too in my opinion - i got a cup of cream of crab soup and the coddies (3 to an order) and my bf got a veggie wrap. The coddies felt a tad bit underseasoned to my bf but I was fine with it (usually I'm the one complaining about things being underseasoned). Cream of crab soup even though it was a cup was plenty filling and they do not skimp on the lump crab topping. Would absolutely recommend this place and would come back to this place (again so sorry to them for our doggy's accident) read more

I had put off going to Mama's On the Half Shell as it's right on Canton Square, and I always assume it was pub food. We went recently for dinner over Labor Day weekend, and it was packed (I think it always is, a neighborhood favorite for sure). I was shocked at how cute the interior is, it's a dark victorian, row home feel, and wider than traditional row homes. The bathrooms still feel pubby. The service was fine, nothing to write home about, but the food was very good. I liked the oysters (they were out of a few we wanted) but still very fresh (although if I'm being honest, for the prices, you might as well just go to Thames Street). I did LOVE their mussels. The Caesar salad - a side - was enormous but was very lackluster, over dressed and the romaine was limp, I didn't even bother eating it after the first few bites. But the mussels were so good, I got the one with the shrimp and chorizo. I will say, I often get mosquito bites in Canton and this was no exception. We sat indoor but I still got five mosquito bites on my arm! I will definitely be back for mussels, and it's good to know there's another decent restaurant in Canton! read more
