I was visiting a family member in Baltimore and stopped for the Turkey Avocado sandwich, a chicken cheesesteak and turkey chili. All of the food was fresh and good quality. Staying at a nearby hotel and dropped in for breakfast but ended up ordering a grilled Cloak and Dagger sandwich. Heavy on the Russian dressing, which I like! Simple side of chips and pickle spear. Priced right. Feels like a family run place and everyone was very nice. Not fancy but comfortable and relaxed. We walked in here this morning and had a wonderful experience. First timers! The people are wonderfully kind, it's a small, quiet diner-like atmosphere with great and quick service, and the food is great! They brewed a fresh pot of coffee for us, our danishes were delicious, and then our MEALS!! Wow! Husband got the French toast sandwich special with scrambled eggs, bacon, and provolone and the sandwich bread was thick and delicious French toast. He loved it! I got the two egg platter. I was told this place is a hole in the wall but that they have really good food, and upon seeing the place I will admit I was a little skeptical. Once we actually got our food, I was very pleasantly surprised! I haven't eaten much Greek food in my life, so in all fairness, I don't really have a lot to compare this to. When we arrived, we asked the woman taking orders what she recommends or what is popular among customers. She began to list off several items, including their shrimp salad and cheesesteaks. We eventually went with her recommendation of the chicken souvlaki with everything, which included chicken, tomatoes, red onion, and tzatziki sauce wrapped in a warm pita. We also ordered a side of fries. Everything was DELICIOUS! The chicken wasn't dried out and well seasoned. I'm not sure how "authentic" it was or how it would compare to other tzatziki sauces, but I absolutely loved it. It did not include any cucumber (which I thought was a key characteristic of tzatziki), but it was really garlicky and yummy all the same. The pita was fluffy and garlicky as well - it was probably my favorite part of the entire thing. I took a few bites of it on its own towards the end of my meal, and I was really disappointed I hadn't done it sooner. The fries were nice as well - they had some other seasoning on them beyond salt, which I always appreciate on my fries. They were on the thicker side and not very crispy, so if you like a crunchy fry these may not be for you. I am partial to soggy fries, so I really enjoyed them. I took a star off because I found the chicken pieces a little too big for eating in a wrap form like that, and they could have been more moist. There was also a lot of the tzatziki sauce, and I can see where some people might find it too much. I welcomed it as some extra dip for my fries, but it did make eating the pita a little difficult as I navigated around a glob of sauce. I'd like to come back to try some of the rest of their menu (it's HUGE - they have just about everything), but I'm also already jonesing for more of the chicken souvlaki. It's definitely a good stop for a lunch (TBD on breakfast!). read more

Oh wow! Was in town for business and had Kirbies almost every day. The turkey club, the roast beef club, and the gyro was my go-to. I've been to Greece and Kirbies has one of the best gyros in the states. Very close to what you'd find right in the Mediterranean. read more

I've been coming to Kirbies since the early 2000's. The family that runs this spot are extremely professional and friendly. They manage the kitchen well and you will not have to wait long even during a busy lunch rush. Prior to Covid I used to love eating in the cozy dining room, which is still open, but obviously you have to decide your own risk tolerance as you are right next to the hospital and people obviously eat with their masks off. The menu is large, but everything is well prepared. You will find a mix of traditional Greek diner food and American sub shop selections. Breakfast is a smaller menu but everything is fantastic. The daily specials are posted outside and inside and on their website. I highly recommend the Gyro or chicken cheesesteak. They have a wide selection of fountain and bottled drinks. They have a limited selection of desserts and pastries including homemade baklava. Personally, I dislike chips, and always upgrade to french fries. But the specials will sometimes be with chips or french fries based on the pricing. Overall a great choice for lunch! read more

They have daily and weekly specials here and one of the most expansive menus I have seen (you could spend your entire lunch break staring/choosing something). We tried the classic gyro and the chicken schwarma. They were both tasty and filling (I personally preferred the classic gyro, as I usually feel chunks of chicken breast are not as flavorful). A great breakfast & Sandwich spot. Fresh real bread on the cheese steak. Diced up tiny like they do in great East coast spots. Huge selection of sandwiches. I asked the locals I was working with for a local spot. This was a great the recommendation. The prices are low for the amount of food they give you. Reminds me of the great local sandwich shops in Chicago/New Jersey /Nyc. Really nice family business that clearly servers the Baltimore community well with fair prices and great service. read more

I'm not sure if this place was around when I was a student, if so, I'm pretty bummed that I had never been there before. As it relates to it's location, it is in the opposite direction of the hospital, cross the street and it is to your left. I can't recall there being a great deal of signage; however, on the other side of the building (where the parking lot is) there is a HUGE red sign. This place was poppin at the lunch hour. The line moved quick, there were some tables, but most people were taking their food to go. I got a roasted turkey sub on this date. The roast their turkey in house, and you can totally tell, because it was crazy fresh. Some toppings added to the sammie, are included, others, like cheese, mushrooms, and green peppers are an added charge. The sub was nicely sized and and was stuffed to capacity. It was fresh just as I expected, and it was quite filling. I'm so happy that I found this spot. The menu is extensive, and reasonably priced, the portions are large. Working in front of this place. So it was very convenient for me to grab food. I ordered the Reuben sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was really good. I liked that they grilled the rye bread. It was hot temperature wise. I also got the special salad of the day for dinner later this evening. Berry salad topped with grilled chicken $8.95. Romaine lettuce, pecans, strawberries, blueberries, mandarin orange, grilled chicken and raspberry vinaigrette dressing on the side) came with a breadstick . I wasn't expecting that. Nice I haven't tasted it yet but man it's huge! It looks delicious. I can't wait for dinner. I sure hope it's as good as the Reuben was. Update I tasted the salad and it's not that great. Not that horrible if I take the chicken out. Mainly the chicken has a weird taste or lack of taste. It's seasoned but I'm not fond of the taste. My mom absolutely loves this place (especially for breakfast) and on many occasions has brought me salads from here. Today since i had an appointment in the area we stopped in. So I'm on a Keto diet so i couldn't order exactly what i wanted but I love their Greek Salad . Their dressing is very flavorful unlike a lot of places and the feta really fresh and delicious. My shrimp salad sandwich sans the bun was good. Not the best shrimp salad I've had but good. The staff is friendly. Nice place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Made the mistake of thinking this was a Greek restaurant so went in to order tzatsiki and pita bread to go. They told me they made the tzatsiki inhouse. I picked up a pasta salad too to go. Pita Bread was truly AMAZING 5 Star.....probably the best pita bread I have ever eaten. Unfortunately the tzatsiki was pretty awful and really tasted store bought but at least it spurred me into making my own that day after I threw this one out.......Pasta salad had great potential but was drowned in dressing. Kirbies is a very unassuming place to eat. If you've ever worked behind the counter, you can tell that the proprietors are serious--they want to serve you and earn your business. The menu is fairly straightforward and "standard". From the handful of times that I've come here, I can tell you that this is a great alternative to whatever you are eating and want to have good food at a good price. The Grilled Veggie Gyro was a great product, probably need one more slice of eggplant to make it filling. I also had the cheesesteak which was a decent sandwich, if a little small. Service is good with smile. The dining area is sufficient and nothing fancy. read more

We were looking for an alternative to big hotel buffet breakfasts and came across what looked like a neighborhood place. Well, do you remember the Seinfeld Soup Nazi? This place has the Breakfast Nazi. No greeting, no smile, just "what do you want?" and "we will call number." Several people who ordered after us were served and when we inquired (because maybe we missed hearing our number), we were told abruptly, "not ready!" Sadly, it was not worth the wait. French toast was 3 pieces of what looked like flattened white bread on the flimsiest, cheapest paper plate. Cutting my food meant cutting through to the table top. Yuck! As we left, both the crabby woman who took our orders as well as the man behind counter (the cook ?) gave us a cheerful thank you and goodbye. Such a contrast. Perhaps, they should rethink welcoming guests upon arrival?!? Only reason for two stars vs. one is that it was relatively inexpensive, plus we got a laugh remembering the Soup Nazi and then chuckling over Breakfast Nazi! read more

Only reviewing the teriyaki cheesesteak here so... Well it was kinda weird. HAHA. The teriyaki sauce had like no teriyaki flavor. The meat was crap quality. But it was satisfying for some reason. Maybe because it was after an exam and i was craving something greasy, and cheesy. But now that I think of it, it was pretty crappy compared to Ed's Teriyaki in Sunnyvale, CA. Let me just start off by saying that this place has the most frustrating hours of all time. No food past 3 PM and no food on the weekend. Pretty typical of the area, but annoying when you live across the street and you're really craving a Chicken Chipotle Wrap on a Saturday. That being said, if you want some quality lunch and friendly service, Kirbies is fantastic. The daily specials are usually pretty great, but not every day has that fantastic of a selection. The real secret is that you can order certain off-menu items (i.e. the aforementioned Chicken Chipotle Wrap) that are normally only on the specials menu, and not only will they make it for you, they will also give you the combo price with chips and pickle. A lot of people get excited about the gyros and fries (which are pretty good) but I think my three favorite menu items are the Cloak and Dagger, the Chicken Chipotle Wrap (obviously), and the White Russian. All told, excellent lunch spot and quick/friendly service. Also, make sure you get yourself a delicious Ravens Bird sandwich available every Purple Friday during football season! read more

I got one of the daily specials, the "White Russian" sandwich (turkey, swiss, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, Thousand Island dressing on whole wheat) with a bag of chips for $7.95. The place has an extensive menu of deli and grill items, and some less common items that you don't usually see in most Baltimore corner carryouts, such as the Buffalo Chicken Wrap in a spinach tortilla, or the tuna salad club. (And doctors CROWD this place- it's right by UMMS and VA Hospitals.)
