Was able to come to the Yelp event held here and had an amazing time. Anna was our host and Kayla was our cohost, both did a phenomenal job planning and organizing the event. Daniel the GM and Fatima are the 2 I remembered most and made this experience good with the customer service they provided. I tasted the following: Calamari: 9/10 really enjoyed, would order again Falafel: 8/10 surprisingly good Short rib sliders: 10/10 get this!! Brussels sprouts no bacon: 7/10 Fish and chips: 7/10 battered beautifully but wish it had more seasoning. Orzo puttanesca: 8/10 first time trying and I actually liked it Cherry old fashioned: 10/10 unique and not too sweet Ghost plane: 10/10 I love it Items regular seem a little pricy so might be best for an happy hour ordeal.

Dear Charles (DC) was a surprise find for me. DC is nestled with what looks to be a residential building for John's Hopkins University. Upon entering the aesthetically impressive sleek building, you walk towards the back and down the stairs into the restaurant (DC). The layout is pleasing to the eye, with massive windows illuminating the main dining room/ bar. There is also an alcove underneath the stairs used to enter the dining area. This area looks to give a more intimate dining experience feel. The service did not disappoint either. Out server was highly attentive and seemingly anticipated our requests prior to asking. VERY IMPRESSIVE! My dining donation & I decided to have a 'tasting' dining experience. We had an assortment of DC's offerings. We tried the following: 1. We started with the Fried Calamari which was nice, light, crispy and thankfully, not chewy. They were accompanied with a pepperoncini aioli, cherry peppers, & grilled lemon. All worked well w/ the squid rings/ tentacles. 2. We also decided to try the Farm Lettuce Salad with Mesclun greens, cranberries, almonds, goat cheese, citrus vinaigrette. This salad served as a refreshing palate cleanser... and ANYTHING w/ goat cheese is a win in my book.TRIPLE WORD SCORE!!! 3. Next, we shared the 'House Made Falafel' which, turns out, was my absolute FAVORITE tasting!!! I love falafels but 90% of the time, they are hard, flavorless and dried out (WHY DO THEY DO THAT?!? Sheesh!!!) Well, DC's falafel was fresh, light, airy, filling and flavorful. They were served with a Tangy yogurt sauce that complimented the falafels, nicely. TRIPLE WORD SCORE!!! On to the dishes for the main course. We chose the following (shared) and I'm glad we did - very filling. We chose the following: 1. Short Rib Sliders. These mini sandwiches came with mozzarello, pickled chilies, garlic aioli, served on a brioche bun. 2. The Fish & Chips were Hand-battered cod, served with tartar sauce, malt vinegar, charred lemon. These were quite meaty and substantial bites. As with the previous dish, with just a seasoning of salt in the batter or sprinkled on the finished product, would have taken this dish OVER THE TOP!! The fries were perfectly cooked and, as always, the perfect compliment to fried fish. 3. Orzo Puttanesca. This was a fantastic summer like dish. Light, full of flavor and mushrooms make EVERYTHING better. The trumpet mushrooms were the 'star' of this dish. It also came with chicken, tomato, olive, red onion, capers, & arugula. Thanks to this trumpet mushrooms- TRIPLE WORD SCORE!!! Overall, Dear Charles was a fun unexpected experience and look forward to returning - especially for the falafels. YUMMMM!

Dear Charles, The conveniently located restaurant is on the lower level of The Study at John Hopkins. Check out Dear Charles for breakfast, Brunch, lunch, dinner, or a late-night bite; you won't be disappointed. Dear Charles, for us, the threat was for a quick light bite when we checked in before our 6:30 p.m. concert at the BMA and brunch after we checked out the next day. Kai, our server on both occasions, was friendly and remembered us. Dear Charles, It is a quaint and affordable venue.

a beautiful restaurant near JHU! Our server was fast and friendly. The fried cauliflower was good! The shrimp tavos were small but very delicious. The burger was a 3/5, nothing to write home about. The salmon was good, just overpriced for the extremely small portion.

Food was subpar. Ordered the grilled duck wings, we were mortified when they came out from the look of them. They were tough, chewy and bland. Be that as it may the drinks and fries were great! Would go back for HH drinks.

Found this place on Yelp and it looked great. Went in early for our reservation and they sat us right away...they were very friendly and warm. We wanted the bar area. Our server Brin greeted us...took our drink orders then left us enjoy those without pressing us to order. We ordered from the Small plate and shared. We forgot to take a picture of the crab cake. Overall experiencet...ambiance...service was fantastic!

Had a date with the wife at the Baltimore Art Museum and picked Dear Charles based off its location and decent reviews. We arrived around mid-day and the place was rather empty but the sidewalks were still stacked with snow so we didn't pay it any mind. They looked to be a little understaffed as the wait to be seated was longer than expected. They sat us near the window so it was quite cold for the duration of our brunch. We ordered the Short Rib Hash and the Bree Grilled Cheese, we like to split our dishes so I was able to try both plates. The food arrived hot shortly after ordering. However, We were left underwhelmed by the flavors, or lack of. The hash had no seasoning with the exception of the little bits of kimchi that were in it. The Grilled Cheese was not the sweet and savory combo that was expected but a rather bland combo of cheese and random bits of fig jelly spread throughout. Sadly the fries were the only thing on the table with seasoning. We will give it another try with hopes that it was a one off because of the weather but we were unimpressed. Pro-tip, if you're cold go stand in the restroom for a few minutes to thaw out.

If you are looking for nice, chill neighborhood restaurant that is quaint and charming, then Dear Charles is your placed. Housed in the Charles Village neighborhood by Hopkins University, Dear Charles evokes a sense of history and belonging and serves as a fixture where the community can come together to share conversations, celebrate with friends, or relax alone. It is also influenced by the regional bounty of the Mid-Atlantic and the vibrance of an established village tavern, patrons will find elevated yet familiar menu items, complemented by a beverage program that focuses on cleverly reimagined classics. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday with a work colleague, this particular day it was pretty quiet, so we were quickly seated upon arrival. The menu looked pretty inviting so we pretty much tried a plethora of dishes. For starters, we did the soup of the day which was a very delicious butternut squash with pesto. That soup was pretty much heaven in a bowl on a cold day. We also tried the crispy brussels sprouts and mussels. Both dishes were very flavorful, I loved that the mussels came with fries. Their fries are very good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For lunch I did the, Charles burger with the smoked bacon jam, hmm hmmm hmmm. So good. My friend got the T&M sandwich, their spin on a classic tomato and mozzarella sandwich. She said it was pretty good. They have a really good cocktail list to even include non alcoholic drinks for the folks that are not drinking alcohol. I tried the coconut sour which was really good, would totally get it again. I absolutely loved Dear Charles, and feel they are such a wonderful addition to the Charles Village area. It is really nice for a date night, meeting up with a group of friends for drinks and the décor is nice, sleek and modern. Will definitely return for brunch or just to try other entrees' SYOY

We popped in to try Dear Charles for a late brunch on a Saturday. The inside of the restaurant has all of the charm that I love about Baltimore neighborhood restaurants. Based on pictures on Yelp, I ordered the brioche French toast and was not disappointed. It's served with pastry cream & fresh berries, and I thought it had just the right amount of sweetness so you can add maple syrup without it being cloyingly sweet. My partner ordered the Charles Burger, which is served with bacon jam, gruyère cheese, lettuce, pickles and the most pillowy soft bread. The beef definitely could have used a touch of salt and be made to fit the size of the bread better. Otherwise it's a pretty good burger.

To host colleagues across the East Coast, we selected this spot the evening before our big conference. We were given the best server: Fatima. She provided prompt friendly and very attentive service. Our table settings were beautiful, the appetizers and wine were top notch, and the limited menu entrees we were given were delicious. Even with the one server coming over and turning off our lights, we had a great time. Definitely looking forward to hosting here again and hope our server is as incredible as this year's.

I've recently started working in the area and they are supper close thus I decided to try them out…read more I was very excited when I saw it was Korean owned however their K-food section is only two items; Bulgogi Dupbap & the Bulgogi Sub. The rest of the menu is American stuff. I've as of now tried both of these and very content with the taste and filling of these two, the price is reasonable per the portion and yummyness($12.49) plus tax about $13.25. The only thing I would change a bit is making sure that the juice from the bulgogi doesn't soak the bread too much cuz then it's mushy. I like a crunchy texture to my subs, but the may be just my preference. Both the son and the mom are super nice, if you become a regular it's very nice to have people know what you want right away. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly. I hope that they can incorporate more korean food to their menu, at least 2 more that have a different protein so we have a bit more variety. Though I understand why the options for kfood are limited given the area's population. Things to keep in mind: - When you order let them know if you want it to go or to eat there. Nobody can read minds, but they will do their best to ask you prior to packaging to confirm. - It can get busy so sometimes transaction may take longer because people are multitasking. - - - Don't rip out the receipt, you might be taking the wrong copy. Wait for the cashier to hand it to you or simply ask. -If you have questions about a product, ask them and don't assume. Yes. There is a big menu and pamphlets available and they provide brief item description but if that's not clear, just ask. They also have prepackaged salads, fruit and a few sweet treats, along with MissVickies chips, and bottle drinks. It's a cafe so the basics. Overall, really nice experience. Tots recommended :3

The service was good, and the dishes were tasty, but nothing that really stood out. That being said, I miss the old owner--there was something special about his presence that made every visit feel more welcoming and personal. I hope the new management keeps things moving in the right direction. I'll definitely return, but it's just not quite the same without the old vibe.

SHUT THE FLUFF UP! SO GOOOOD!!!…read more We were in Baltimore with a few hours to spare in the morning, so what to do?!? First thing that comes to mind is... crab for breakfast! Ok yelp, show me watcha gat!!! Oh, AND Open Early! Unfortunately, we have just a few options pop up (Wha?!? REALLY?!? It's Baltimore, aren't they famous for crab?!?), so we choose to hit Blue Moon Cafe! Yelp directions are on point and only street parking from what we can see. We brave the brisk chilly breeze of early May to get to the cafe... BRRRR!!! Inside motif has a dark theme to it and small patronage area. Per the lovely Nicki who greeted us, Blue has been on Food Network a few times... DDD, Best Things I Ever Ate & Destination FOOD... so settin' the bar HIGH from the start! Ok, okay I dig the confidence!! Menu is via QR code but Nicki, becuz she's fun, excitedly announces the recs to the newbies, which are Sweet Baby Jesus & Cap'n Crunch French Toast. Thanks for the heads up! Sweet Baby has lump Crab in the dish so that's a confident YES! for that, but I spy something more appealing than Cap'n Crunch... Let's EAT! SWEET BABY JESUS!: Wifey and I wanted crab and this was Blue's big gun! So YES! To The Dish! It may appear as a simple Hash Brown dish but it is so much GLORIOUS than that! To start, Hash browns are browned & crisped perfectly and then the angel's touch happens... lump crab (generous portion) with Old Bay Seasoning, fresh diced tomatoes, melty cheese, 2 over Medium eggs and homemade Hollandaise Sauce. HOLEY MOLEY! DEEE-LISH! Generous crab serving allows you to have crab with EVERY bite of this dish! Mmmmm :) Love the ooey gooey stretchy cheese! Love the runny eggs! And that Hollandaise?!?! LEGIT! This heavenly dish deserves all the hype! The only drawback was the dish got cold fast because of the cold weather outside I assume. By the time I finished my order, and got to helping Wifey, not as WOWzers compared to when it first dropped on our table. Now we know... eat fast when it's cold outside. lol SHUT THE FLUFF UP! FRENCH TOAST: Once I read "peanut butter" in its ingredients, no way I was passing this up! Buh Bye fan fave Cap'n Crunch, maybe next time lol. Officially, menu "says" it's a Pretzel encrusted French Toast, layered with chunky peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and Chocolate drizzle... allegedly. The chocolate drizzle was not present when the plate landed but generous melty smooth peanut butter completely covered the top of the marshmallow fluff. Sliced Granny Smith apples and thin pretzels also topped the dish, with a powdered sugar drizzle over the entire plate. I asked for extra peanut butter on the side just because no one ever puts enough for my liking lol. And whattya know?!? This newest iteration of the dish was FABULOUS! Did they run out of stuff? Who cares! The synergy these items had with each other just made an amazing bite each and every time. BOMB-alicious!!! I don't really like marshmallow but it wasn't a hindrance here. I devoured the entire thing. Compliments to the chef! ;) VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! Definitely worth a visit and a return visit, as well! If it's cold outside, focus on eating not chit chatting lol ENJOY! :)

My husband and I recently dined at Blue Moon Cafe in Fells Point, Baltimore, and were disappointed…read moreby our experience. The issue began when my husband politely asked a question about a menu item because it appeared to be spelled "browns" rather than "hash browns." He simply wanted clarification regarding what the item was. The server asked him for context, and he explained that he was referring to the item as it appeared on the menu. She then replied, "Oh, now I have context. That's a hash brown." My husband explained that because of the way it was written, he wasn't sure what it meant and was only asking a question before ordering. At that point, the server's tone became noticeably louder, and she responded, "Well, I only work here. I didn't write the menu." We found this response unnecessarily defensive and dismissive. At no point was my husband criticizing the server or correcting her. He was simply trying to understand a menu item. Shortly afterward, a different server began assisting our table, which gave us the impression that the original server was upset by the interaction. When my husband placed his order, he specifically requested that the restaurant's "animal sauce" be served on the side. The menu does not explain what animal sauce is, so he wanted to try it separately before putting it on his meal. When the food arrived, the dish was completely covered in the sauce rather than having it on the side as requested. Afterward, we learned that the sauce is a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise. My husband does not eat mayonnaise and ketchup on eggs, which is exactly why he requested the sauce on the side. Unfortunately, because of the uncomfortable interaction earlier, he did not feel comfortable asking for the dish to be corrected and simply tried to eat around it. The meal was not inexpensive, and because the sauce had been poured over most of the food, he was unable to enjoy it. Approximately 80% of his meal was left uneaten. We understand that mistakes happen and that restaurant environments can be busy. However, customers should be able to ask questions about menu items and make simple requests without feeling uncomfortable or concerned about how those requests will be received. Description of waitress: Caucasian Middle aged Heavy set Extremely loud voice Rude ( nice/nasty) We wanted to share this feedback because the interaction negatively impacted our dining experience and left us feeling unwelcome. We hope this feedback is received in the spirit intended so that future guests feel comfortable asking questions and making requests without concern.
