When I say experience, I mean it...we were treated so well and enjoyed everything from the appetizers to the drinks and to the main dishes. Just to give you an idea of the vibe ...as you walk in, the exposed brick walls and cozy, low-lit atmosphere give it that modern industrial charm, relaxed, but still elevated. It feels like the kind of place where brunch easily turns into a full afternoon. It feels like you're stepping back into the past, but it's still feels very new and fresh. Now, let's get to the food and drinks. The French toast is the star. Thick-cut, golden, and perfectly crisp on the outside while soft and slightly custardy inside. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with syrup from a special carafe. It's a rich flavor without being overly sweet. Not to forget, it's topped with a dollop of whipped cream and berries. The chicken and waffles? A solid win. The waffle is fluffy with crispy edges, and the seasoned wings bring that savory balance. Sweet, crunchy...everything you want in one bite. Also, for an appetizer try the honey honey old bay wings and the chicken tacos, so delicious. Scrambled eggs were creamy and well-seasoned, and the breakfast meats (from classic sausage to crispy bacon) rounded everything out nicely. The cocktails are no afterthought. The margarita-style drink came in a chilled glass with a sugared rim, refreshing, slightly tart. Also, on the menu are a different types of juices and they're very open to making a perfect mix for you...a virgin blend or something spicier. Lastly, but definitely not least, Chef Heather is so sweet and very welcoming to us...this made everything even more special. I woke up with grits on my mind, and decided to wrap up Love Weekend with a solo date to Swill for breakfast. Swill is cozy, warm, and inviting. As my first visit, I wanted to play it safe and order foundational pieces to study the how and why of the creamy grits, perfectly scrambled eggs, and Bang Bang Shrimp. Served in a martini glass atop of small bed of spring mix and drizzled with yummy bang bang sauce, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned and battered, with a light Old Bay dusting. The grits were indeed creamy with an option to add shredded cheese, and that I did. I'll have to study how the eggs came out looking and tasting so fluffy, chef's kiss! My matcha latte was made with oat milk, sweetened modestly, and I could taste the delicious hint of nutmeg - so good! Chef Heather provided attentive and steady service throughout. I came here for a ladies brunch of about 10 BrownBombshells. The place is larger in size then i expected. Has plenty of seating and our server and owner is a beast, top tier with the customer service. Especially serving such a beautifully robust group..lol!! If work smarter not harder was a person its mf HEATHER!!! Thanks your are fantastic!!! I did not hear one complaint about anyone's meal. The unlimited drink deal was flowing!! I had the bang bang shrimp which were delicious and not over sauced. The crispy lamb chops were the star of the show, yes indeedy A+. Came here on a recent visit for a birthday brunch. Let me say that the vibes were immaculate. From the layout to decor. To the service and ambiance. While here I had the Hot honey crispy chicken sandwich. The portion was great for the price and the flavor was amazing. Crispy and juicy, I tore the sandwich down. Sorry no pics. hahaha. I washed my sandwich down with a delicious House punch. It has ginger; pineapple and carrot juices. I partook in another drink but the name was escapes me. It was equally as good. It was a whole thing, but I when I went to pick the order up, she kindly told me how they haven't been connected to grub hub in a year and then offered to replace the item I ordered (cuz that also was no longer on the menu). Initially looking for a black resataurant Valentine to take my mom & guest, had reservasimce many restaurants were booked. Despite not seeing much vegetarian options on the menu, we headed off. We arrived early for our 6pm reservation and noone (hostess) was there to greet us. The restaurants had 2 tables full, surprisingly empty. Waited 10 min at the front wo being greeted, looked over the menu, which was basically sandwich and burger. Wasn't my expectation. So decided to leave and find a last minute restaurants. Upon leaving bumped into a lady who asked about our reservation and replied there was a an emergency and unfortunately apologized for not being able to accommodate our reservation. I have come here before but recently came for a private event as my two friends selected this venue to be their wedding venue. A small wedding with a mighty impact on what better day than Juneteenth! I love the art work and ambiance of the restaurant! Upon leaving the event, my friend had the head chef and I believe also owner come out to thank her for the environment and my God the food!!!! The food was amazing: salmon cakes, fried chicken, braised lamb and rice, macaroni pie, Mac and cheese, cornbread , rolls, the water with fresh watermelon in it, butter with honey and old bay for the bread, the kale mixture salad (so good!). The customer service of the staff for the evening were great. They were so good to us. And we appreciate Their patience and hard work!!!!! I will definitely return. I'm a bit sad I didn't photograph my food items however trust me when I say you don't need it. The food was to die for and I wasn't even focused on capturing it. Just being honest lol. Live about 1 1/2 hrs from Baltimore but in the area (Pigtown section) once/twice a year. Yesterday was my 2nd time to Swill and again it did not disappoint! Went with close friends (4 of us after a dance performance across the street) and arrived right at closing (didn't remember they closed at 4 on Saturdays) but the owner remembered us from coming last year (great convo then too) and still welcomed us in. We had the wings (forgot the two kinds), Greek salads, whiting sandwiches, whiting w/grits. Everything was made fresh to our tastes (one of us is in the restaurant business and gave two thumbs up). Wings were a good size, not tiny and flavorful. Ambiance was great (well we were the lasts ones serviced - no other customers) but the decor is a thumbs up. Spacious and you don't feel like you are squeezed in for them to put more tables in the space. The whiting (good size pieces) with my fish and grits was the best I've had at a restaurant in a looong time. Everyone agreed (sandwiches). I made a general comment that it would be great to have some scrambled eggs with my grits and of course, the owner said NO PROBLEM, she went in the back and made them herself! Had a good debate about grits not needing sugar (lol - I'm a salt pepper butter only guy). Grits were served exactly how I liked it. It took a little bit longer to get all the food out (servers had left) but with our table convos (owner included) and the resulting great food served, it was not an issue. I think this place has ALOT of potential. The food was so flavorful and delicious I just couldn't stop eating. I'd get the chicken and waffles every single time if I could!! Im having a difficult time finding the correct words to describe this incredible restaurant. I recently heard about Chef Heather Smith's permanent location of Swill Apothecafe by Blacksmiths on Washington Blvd. So I decided to stop by and enjoy some brunch this rainy Sunday morning. Walking into Swill I immediately felt cozy in this lounge ambiance, with exposed brick walls, smooth music playing, and amazing artwork hanging on the walls. I walked in found a seat at one of the large communal tables, sat my book bag down and went to order at the counter. I chose to order the brown sugar french toast with a side of bacon and cheese eggs. *Sidenote they do not serve alcohol but you can BYOB for a $10 corkage fee. (Which I did). A group of friends next to me forgot their bottle, so they ordered some champagne and had it delivered via the Drizly app. Once my food came out, I cut a little sample bite of my french toast and I knew at that moment, I made the right brunch stop! The french toast was AMAZING, this food was cooked with love. The BACON had a brown sugar syrup flavor glaze on top of it! *chefs kiss* This is a spot you should RUN to for an amazing vibe, and food experience wrapped together! Brunch is only served from 10-2 so its best to get there early! On Friday nights a live band is featured with no cover w/ food and drink specials! This is a new spot in what I consider the now eclectic Pigtown. I don't know what an apothecafe is, but that's what they consider themselves. The cafe part is accurate; there are really interesting drinks on the menu. Mine was the most interesting...the Blueberry Basil. A sweet natural tea. Mmm! The food was great too. I ordered the brown sugar French toast and a side of scrambled eggs and beef sausage. All were delicious but the french toast was particularly good. My dining mate had the shrimp and grits. Now, if you've ever read some of my old reviews, you would know that I'm critical of shrimp and grits because everyone makes them, but only few really "hit it". Swill's shrimp and grits are juuuuust about there; I like my shrimp and grits with more rue or more char. During the week, they have different specials like Burger Night. I'll be back at Swill. So on my weekly adventure to support local businesses I found myself at Swill on Washington Blvd. it's nice location not too far from the highway & downtown. It's on a residential street so parking can be a little tricky. But I was in lucky & found a spot across the street in front of the church. Upon walking in the place is lovely nice beautiful romantic quiet little intimate place perfect for a brunch/breakfast date. My waitress was excellent soon as I was seated she was on her job & never stop until I was walking out. The menu is full of little tasty delights & reviewing the pictures on here made it even harder for me to decide. I elected to go with the honey old bay chicken sandwich. I must say it was truly delicious my only issue was unfortunately like so many other places lately it was not a chicken breast just 3 tenders placed on a bun. My first visit was as a party of three. We were seated right way as we had reservations. The wait staff was attentive and came over quite often to check on us in the beginning and then toward the end of our time there we noticed that we didn't see much of him, not sure what that was. As for our food, I had a breakfast platter and I was disappointed. I had two scrambled eggs, beef sausage, brioche bread toast and potatoes. With my toast I asked for butter and strawberry jam and when it arrived it didn't have strawberry jam or butter on the side so I asked for that again it took a little too long and I was hungry so I said OK I'll just go ahead and use this grape jelly. My bread was stuck together so when I pulled the bread apart I was surprised to see it had already been buttered and the jelly had already been applied. Unfortunately, because of that- my toast arrived soggy. I've never been to a restaurant where they butter it for you and put the jam on for you. I found that very strange. Also, my sausage was cold. One person in my party had the creamy pesto with shrimp they liked it the other person had some chicken wings and they had the crab dip. The entire time the two people in my party were complaining about their eyes burning/stinging. I didn't have that problem until about 15 minutes before we were about to leave I started to experience it too. One member of my party had to get up and actually walk outside because the stinging and burning was too much. The two people in my party ordered peach Bellini's and they liked them. I ordered the better than OJ and didn't care for it at all. I did enjoy the drip coffee, I had 2 cups with oat milk creamer-very, very, very good; it definitely did not disappoint. As for the ambience I thought it was cute. Both of the walls along the sides of the restaurant lined with original artwork from different artists and each one has the name of the piece and the sales price. This is a black woman owned business!!! Before I get into the beauty of the space, just know the food is straight ! These pictures are way better than my first visit so you can really see what's going on. My drink of choice today was the house blend; carrot, pineapple, ginger...delicious! The waffle comes with chicken but that's not my lane so swapped them for shrimp, loved every bite! The waffle batter taste like a donut so the sweet cream and light syrup was an added treat. I would definitely get the waffle again, and again, and again! Now those fried potatoes, DELICIOUS! They were like potato chips but in breakfast potato form, close your eyes and imagine that, uhhuhhh EXACTLY! I had the fried grits before(sooooo fire!!!!) but this picture isn't mine, it's Simone(charmcitytable) food and she said it was excellent! Sometimes there's a wait for your food depending on how busy the place is but it's a cozy/welcoming environment that the wait doesn't even matter. I'm so glad that I came here for brunch! It was pretty empty when I came because it was a weekday. I love the vibe of this restaurant. The decor has a rustic feel to it and the restaurant has plenty of natural light and an open feel. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food out to us. Seemss like they have a pretty limited menu, especially on week days. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and oh my gosh, the candied bacon is magical! Thick cut bacon with carmalized sugar on the edges... it's amazing. And they don't skimp on the bacon, which I always appreciate. I also loved that the sandwich was topped with arugula. In my opinion, arugula is the superior sandwich green to any other green veggie. My sandwich came with potatoes and the potatoes were delicious and a huge portion! the potatoes had a nice crisp to them, and a touch of saltiness and sweetness. My friend ordered the french toast and oh my, it was such a large portion with plenty of fruit. We were completely stuffed. I love this place. Others have mentioned that the service was a bit confusing. Had the opportunity to visit Swill by Blacksmiths on a Sunday morning. What immediately struck me was the decor of the restaurant. It's a really cool atmosphere. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't take any pictures but I certainly loved the artwork on the walls. The The piece that I sat underneath was priced at 20K so therefore I will continue to only admire the artwork from afar. We arrived on a Sunday shortly after it had opened at 10:00. I found street parking however I imagine at times that may be an issue. Upon entering, we were immediately seated and the wait staff came over to greet us and take drink orders. I'm not sure if we were given the brunch menu or if this was the standard menu but there were not a lot of dishes to choose from. We decided to order the Blackened Salmon and Fried Grits along with the Brown Sugar French Toast. I thought the salmon was slightly overcooked and I mean just a touch however the sauce that it was in certainly made up for that issue. It was like a cream of crab style sauce with corn in it and it had a subtle and light flavor but it definitely worked with the fish. This dish also came with a grit cake which added some more crunchiness or texture to that dish. When I ordered the French toast, I meant to tell them to put the strawberry preserves on the side. I'm not a huge fan. Once I received the dish and tasted it with the strawberries on top, it was amazing. It had a great texture and crunch to it and the flavor was tremendous. They didn't offer any syrup until we were nearly finished our meal however it's certainly not needed. The French toast is plenty sweet. The only downside in my opinion was that it took a little while for our food to arrive although we were the first or second guest in the place. The wait staff seem to be a bit uneasy as if they were new but I am certain in time they will become more comfortable with the menu and with how the flow of the restaurant is supposed to work. Everyone was extremely nice and for a final touch, the person who I believe to be the chef/owner came around and greeted us and all the other tables. A personal touch always makes you leave with a smile on your face. Although the brunch menu is limited, I never judge a restaurant by that. The only criteria is if you only do a few things, make sure you do them well. Swill by Blacksmith's passed that test. I was so excited to come to your restaurant and won't come back against. Today I called for a reservation and asked what vegan options they have. She talked to the kitchen then told me 4. Carrot dog, carrot tuna, black eye pea salad which was great for my vegan friend. We get there. Why the waitress tell us that due to restaurant week there are only two sections we can eat from and none of it is the brunch menu or the vegan options. It was happy hour or sandwiches I believe. How do you not having that info on IG and why is the person answering the phone telling me options that aren't even available. Why haven't you printed out different menus to show what is available. I wanted to support you all but this was a bad experience. We just left and went and had a meal somewhere else. read more

Today, I was excited to finally attend this black owned restaurant that I've been planning to conclude the end of my friend's birthday celebration. To my disappointment the service and food was not a taste to wait for. Every process took an overdue amount of time- ordering,drinks, food and even the bill. The food was by far one of the most distasteful things I've had this year. I had fish and grits and it was subpar, if that. My friend ordered chicken and waffles and stopped eating it after the first bite due to the horrid flavors. When he asked this to be taken off our bill due to its distastefulness, things took even longer; that should've only taken half of the time. This was completely unacceptable and unprofessional in every aspect of business and professionalism. Not to mention the owner was actively present, and participating in the uncynical nonsense. If one can't take constructive criticism they will fail. If it depends on my dollar they would have failed today. Therefore, this experience on a day to be remembered, will be recalled for the wrong reasons in result of this restaurants distasteful hospitality. Black owned business on a come up is always a beautiful thing to see, imo. That grind you put in to finally get to the point you want. I truly hope to see this for Swill by Blacksmith but there are growing pains to which they'll have to overcome to be that successful go-to spot. The Good: - The decor looks great. I love the artwork & earthy colors of the restaurant. The brick wall gives such a personable feel to it, like a heightened comfort level. The whole set up visual is very welcoming. & it looks as if they can open up the garage door if need be when its beautiful outside which will pair well with the music playing. Be like a block party that will bring others to their establishment. Imo, the music was a great vibe. They were playing all of the right songs. - My red juice tasted freshly made. I def enjoyed it. Price was a bit up there but definitely charge your worth. Plus there is maintenance being performed for it so I don't necessarily think that's fair for me to complain about. The Bad: - There is a bit of confusion on how you go about getting seated. My friend & I were puzzled on how we would go about that as well as others after us. When we walked into the establishment, we stood by the front for a few thinking a host would greet us only to figure out we need to walk towards them in order to be seated after being stared at like deers in headlights by the team. - Our waiter was a nice young man so don't think I'm attacking his character, but under the same breath we weren't offered any water or anything. & it definitely took like 25 or so mins for us to actually get to place our order. If this is common practice, I will not be the only one mentioning this in their reviews. - My friend ordered the Fish & fried Grits while I ordered the chicken & waffles. My friend said her fish was tasteless while the grits were decent-ish. Meanwhile, my waffles were meh while chicken had no flavor. I ate a piece of the waffle & 2 small pieces of chicken & kindly ask for it to be sent back. The Ugly: - Seeing as though we at this point were 2 unsatisfied customers, you'd think the best approach in this situation would be to get us out of your establishment for they could make a scene & possibly become a plague to your business. But for some reason this didn't cross the staff mind & they allowed us to sit there for an additional 30 or so mins to allow us to pay for what we did digest. At this point, I felt like they were being petty because of the circumstances. I was ok sitting as long as they were only letting us sit. Hell, I love playing the waiting game. At one point, the cook came over to see if my card was on the table, walked ¾ of the way to me, saw I had the card on the table ready to pay & busted a U turn to stand back up there for 10 extra mins. My friend took matters into her own hands by walking up to the cashier to pay for it. Actually ended up paying for her fish & grits even though it wasn't really touched, as well. & my chicken tasted like lightly seasoned wood so I was good on that. We left & went across town to The Point to eat. All & all- This was worst than my experience at Noir Baltimore. But to give the benefit of doubt: They are a new restaurant who needs to work out the customer service kinks. I battled between 2 to 1 star but the ending was what finalized. Hopefully, they take this as constructive criticism rather than an attack on their establishment. You're bound to fail in this business if they keep at it like this by allowing ego to dictate your actions. & if I'm being completely honest: That's the last thing I want to see, because I see a lot of great potential here. I'm all for supporting black owned business. We arrived at 11:15 am and was seated right away. The ambiance is real dope, good music, nice art on the walls. We get our drinks and it seems everything is going smoothly. The server said she'll be back to get our order and didn't come back. We notice everyone that came in behind us ordered their food. Finally I grab the hostess and let her know we didn't order by this time it's 12:24pm. She took our order, the server comes up and say oh I thought they already ordered. Also she was the only server which I'm sure overwhelmed her. We got our food the waffle had a butter flavor to it, the wings are rotisserie with dry rub they were ok. My partner got a French toast that was super hard, he put a lot of syrup to soften it up and it was still hard. We sent back to exchange for a waffle. I ordered a bacon sandwich to go and they forgot the fruit. I had to call the hostess over again to make sure the advertised meal didn't change. She made sure the fruit was added This place has potential there's a few hiccups that need to be solved. We stopped by on a Sunday morning to pick up brunch and it was great! The inside is really well done - love the exposed brick, lights, comfortable seating with open space for mingling, and really wonderful artwork. We ordered an iced vanilla latte, breakfast sandwich, and the brown sugar french toast and it was all delicious! If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by - you can always get it to go like we did. We will be back! :) read more
