I strolled down to this beautiful black owned restaurant with so much character and Jamaican vibes. I went inside and was greeted and after pondering over the menu for a bit. The guy behind the counter made me a customized meal from a few different options from the menu. I didn't want anything too heavy because it was mid day. This was my solo date with perfectly fried fish under a bed of lettuce, plantains, special sauce and Peach Tea to wash it down. I was personally served the entire time I dined by the chef. I toured the entire restaurant and saw the upstair space which holds small events like poetry and spoken word along with private parties. My friend ordered something fruity. About 30 minutes later, with 10 minutes to spare for happy hour. I ordered another rum and coke and my entree. I went with the fried fish catfish platter with yams /pineapples baked in it and sautéed veggies. The sautéed veggies that night was cabbage and peppers. My friend ordered the baked catfish platter with collard greens and sweet potato fries. Everything came out about 30 minutes after we ordered. My friend's fish platter was fried instead of baked, the sweet potatoes fries were the last in bunch, dried out and old. The greens were indeed Glory Greens. If you know you know! I like this chill bar/cafe! I was invited by a friend who was playing here. I had heard of this place. Glad I finally visited. It certainly won't be my last. Everyone was super frirendly and made me feel welcomed. The backyard space is nice. They have heating lamps so can still enjoy the space even in the cooler seasons. I've been to Terra Cafe 2x now, out in the huge back patio area. It's an amazing space, a hidden gem in Charles Village. Definitely enjoy spending time out there. The first time I visited, I didn't eat. However this second time, I placed an order for fish nuggets and fries. It took maybe 10-15 minutes for my food to come out and when it did, it was pretty no frills. My main issue was a complete and utter lack of condiments. I need hot sauce with my fish, and I don't carry it around in my purse regardless of what Beyoncé commands us to do. Vinegar would have been a nice option also. Plus it's pretty standard at a minimum to provide ketchup to go with fries. There was none of this. The good news is the fish and fries were well seasoned and were pretty tasty despite a lack of hot sauce. I guess in the future I'll have to bring my own little condiments bag. read more

I order had a mushroom wrap and a margarita I forgot the name it was passion fruit .... my drinks and food was very good ...... at close out I got some greens to go and BABYYYYYYY THOSE GREENS WERE BOMB. Okay. So I was talking to the bestie and I was talking about how much I missed a good home fried piece of battered fish. He tells me I have to go to Terra Cafe and try their fish. I kind of gave him the side eye but I took him at his word and gave them a try. 1st off this spot is soooooooooo much larger than I ever imagined. It's HUGE. From the outside, it looked very small. I've seen it over the years but never really thought about venturing inside. There are two levels and the upper level is a bar. Quite nice. I also understand they have performances there. Who knew? Not me... Anyway, onto the FOOD! I saw they indeed, did have battered fresh fish so I decided I wanted to try each version of the battered fish over several visits. Here are my thoughts. 1) FISH ENTREE: Fried Fish served with two sides [Sides: string beans (+), sauteed veggies (+ AMAZINGLY GOOD), mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, vegan greens, rice pilaf, yams with pineapples (+ These right here... are EVERYTHING!!! I'd buy a pound if I could), potato salad, and macaroni salad]. This fish was a generous fillet and had a perfect batter. I wish it came with two fillets, though. It was THAT GOOD! It was the perfect combination you'd want from a piece of fried fish - crunchy from cornmeal, a flavorful w/ salt/pepper and maybe some other seasonings and moist, flaky meat inside. PERFECT! The sides listed above, where I put (+) next to are what I selected and they did NOT disappoint. DELICIOUSNESS. #yourewelcome 2) Next go around, I tried the Battered Fish Sub: lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion on a toasted Milano roll with Terra's chipotle mayo; served with salad, sauteed veggies or fries. This flavorful fish was prepared the same way and it was good but not as good of a serving as the entree. 3) Fish Wrap: made with lettuce, tomato, rice, and Terra's chipotle mayo. Served with sauteed veggies (baked or fried). Now THIS was a tasty sandwich. The spicy mayo married all the flavors perfectly. Came here tonight for their Friday night happy hour that they had going on! We saw a flyer on IG! Had a great visit tonight! There was such a great vibe the minute we walked in! Girls were singing karaoke and invited me to join them, the bartender made our drinks perfect! She's also super cute! Once the karaoke ended, the DJ took over and had a great mix of music playing! We also ordered some food while here! I had the fish tacos and hubby, the fish strips! Both were fried to perfection and seasoned very well! It was part of their "small plates" with prices starting at $6. The size of the plate was perfect for the price. Both were very delicious! We received great service tonight! The first time I dined in with a friend and I had the cheesesteak sub with cheddar cheese and no tomato.. the cheesesteak came out panini pressed with delicious cheddar and steak coming out of it and it was like biting into heaven. Flavors was on point and the sub roll pressed from the panini press made the bread the perfect crisp bite everyone would want. I knew it was a mistake to serve it that way but it was one of the greatest. So i returned to get the same cheesesteak made the same way in a to go order. As I'm describing the way I wanted it, one of the cooks who was sitting down next to the register said," no I'm not doing that, because it's too messy." I immediately left without finishing my order completely unsatisfied with the level of service that day So I try again, but this time I order a panini off the menu to go. I had two.. the Ruben panini and the yard bird panini.. only to get home and find out that neither sandwich had been pressed. So I basically got hot sandwiches, which isn't even on the menu. I got pics of the yard bird sandwich(not a panini) and not the Ruben cuz I was hungry so I ate that sandwich.. I will not go back and recommend they get this stuff together in there because the flavors is on point in this place. I had all intentions on supporting this business. ALL INTENTIONS. We ordered our food at 3:30. We ordered: 8 wings, with 4 sides. The cashier initially said the wait time would be 15mins. But, we asked for the REAL wait time, which was 30mins. They have indoor seating and Jamie Foxx playing on TV. 30 mins would be one episode - cool beans. So, two episodes later - I realized they hadn't called our order number. I go to the counter and there's another guest standing there. She says, I've been waiting an hour for my food. I ordered an hour ago, and it didn't get it. I knew then our food wasn't ready - cashier confirmed that with her hesitation. We got a refund and went to Southern Belle in Maryland. Way better choice. A few other things to note: The staff seem very young and inexperienced. No organization in the kitchen - which you can see from the counter...roach on the floor near the bathroom... expired potato salad in the fridge for guest purchase. The cook was very nice. Breakfast can be served all day, but if you come during lunch and want breakfast it will take a while... so I ended up ordering a lunch entree... I ordered honey old bay chicken tenders with Mac n cheese and yams. The tenders were good and seasoned well and I tasted sweet potato fries and they were good too. The Mac and cheese and yams were okay. The yams are made with pineapples, which is different for me... They have sweet tea, but didn't have any during my visit. Nice little organic cafe offering a great selection of comfort food & soul ambience. The wait was a little slow due to the special lunch the owner was having for their employees/volunteers that just fed 180 homeless people. I opted for the Sway Fish Wrap, never had that type of fish before & it was very fresh & delicious. I had the "Chef's Hash", garden potatoes with grilled veggies & seasonings, very tasty as well. Pretty impressed with the food & vibe. Our sever was very young & on point. He knew the menu & the great suggestions...not to mentioned being able to handle my special concessions requests with a quick turn around. Finally tried this place always driving past it. I actually really liked it I ordered curry chicken with Mac & cheese and vegan greens to go. I was so disappointed. I brought 10 church members to Terra Cafe, 2 of them children, after church. It took about 10 mins after we received our drinks for the waitress to take our orders. The waitress, a young lady, was polite as she assisted our group. I was the 2nd person ordering in the group. I placed my order and then my daughter's order (4 wings and fries). There were 2 other orders (4 wings and fries placed also). Long story short, the kid's food NEVER came. The other 2 orders (wings & fries did). I talked to our waitress and another older waitress. I asked why the kid's weren't served first. The older waitress was very rude, stating the cook has no way of knowing who ordered what. Most of our party was almost finished eating and the 2 little girls in our party (one being a 3 year old) were given nothing to eat, no apology or anything. I ended up canceling the order. You would think that since they totally messed up the order, they would at least offer the kids something to eat (French fries, salad, fruit, etc). NOPE! NOTHING! On top of that, another member of ours ended up canceling her order because it never came. One man in our group ordered a sandwich with fries. I love great customer service, and let me say the customer service at Terra Café is phenomenal! Our waitress was so patient with my indecisive family lol! We certainly enjoyed the staff being so accommodating to our needs! It's so refreshing to know that the staff provides great service even when the boss is away.
