The outdoor area is a vibe and the drinks were on point but the food service was awful. We went for Jazz night. I recommend eating before you go there if it's an event with a large crowd taking place. It took 35 mins for someone to come take our order and then 45 mins to receive our food and items were missing. All night people were complaining amongst each other and some folk never received their food. Hopefully this will improve because the Jerk Garden is relaxing and inviting. read more

I had to wait for my food to be prepared, after I arrived. It was not ready at the time the order app said it would be. The eggs and French toast were lukewarm and just so so. The potato hash was super greasy. I had to throw half of it away. I noticed that one of the kitchen staff had to run out to the store to get eggs. Why wouldn't you have eggs on hand during Saturday brunch? I probably won't return to Terra Cafe again for take-out, despite it only being 4 blocks from my house, especially since they have yet to set up indoor/outdoor dining. I mean the chicken stew I ordered was just like Oma's (German for grandmother ). Not like other Caribbean stewed chicken I'm familiar with but delish none the less. My friend ordered the jerk chicken... Great real flavor- a bit dry. The sides, green beans and yams with pineapples were cooked with love. Our sweet potatoes fries needed extra cooking time... The cream of crab with salmon on special was special all right... Never had COC quite like it... I'm a purist when it comes to my seafood, but this was spectacular. Maybe becuase it was Jazz night, but the service was horrendous. I had to ask for a server, and a menu. The server brought the wrong drink. It took forever for the food to come. My server never came back and I had another server prepare the bill. Beware, they give a total for your bill and hand you a tablet to add the tip. You get no itemized list ahead of time. They don't tell you that the tip is already added, so you double tip. When I made the server aware, she said that she didn't know that the tip was automatically added. Yeah...right. My mom ordered a fish sandwich here a few days ago and it was amazing. There's spice from the chipotle mayo, juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce, caramelized onions, with chunks of fried fish. It was the best fish sandwich I've ever had. Fast forward to last night when I placed a phone order for a few fish sandwiches for the family before closing. My brother picked them up and when he arrived home my mom mentioned the fish was too salty. I ignored her because she's recently complained about things being salty. I opened my container to find a large piece of whiting on a hoagie roll. I was confused because this sandwich was visibly different than what my mom and I shared just days ago. I took two bites and realized it WAS incredibly salty. Some of the salt from the fish could've been used for the fries. It tasted nothing like the sandwich from a few days prior. There were barely any onions, no chipotle mayo and no tomatoes. I was agitated that a $16 sandwich ended up being a piece of whiting. 3 pieces of whiting with fries is less than $10! You cannot substitute stuff on your menu because you don't have or ran out. Just do not serve it or make others aware so that they may decide if they want to shell out nearly $20. People work too hard for their money for staff to swap out main ingredients like that. My mom and I never moved past two bites. My brother said it was just okay. read more

This was my first time coming to this restaurant around 12:40pm. I placed my takeout order on the phone at 12:15pm. No special parking but, I was able to park at a meter on 25th & St. Paul street. Walked into the the restaurant and a few customers were dining in. Walked up to the counter and was asked if I had placed my order already. I responded "Yes". My order was up and ready. Just had to be bagged. It looked a little different inside this restaurant than I was expecting. I thought it was gonna be spacious inside but, it was rather small. The gentleman that rang up my order was pleasant and I didn't mind tipping. At the time he was working alone or what appeared to be alone in the dining area. I was in and out. This place was so close to my job that I was able to return to work before 1:pm. Awesome. I did not realize the treat that I was about to be in for. We each had our own salad and Jamaican Kola Champagne but, we split the Yard Bird Panini, Fish Sub and sweet potato fries. Let me tell you I ate everything. Just ridiculous on my behalf. I'm sorry the food was just that delicious. I did snap pictures before I did the damage. This was one awesome meal. I know I over ate but, I am not even mad. Got the chicken and waffles today for brunch, and while I really wanted to love the place, it was a bit disappointing. The servers are super friendly and helpful. However, the service was painfully slow. I ordered coffee, and after sitting around for about 10 min, we still had not received our coffee nor our water. We had to walk up to the cash register to ask them to bring it to us. My friends and I all got the chicken and waffles since breakfast ends at 11 am (even on a Sunday), and chicken and waffles was the most breakfast-y item they had. The dishes took about 15-20 min to bring out. They must have been slaughtering the chicken in the back. The wings WERE crispy and delicious and very flavorful. Definite star of the dish. The waffles were obviously made of good batter, but it was SO SOGGY. If you take that long to make a dish, at least have crispy waffles! They weren't what you would want out of a thick waffle, crispy outside, soft inside. It was pure sogginess - as if they were made too far in advance and left to steam under a lid. I've heard their fried fish is the best thing they have. I may try it, but I don't know if I would ever eat there without calling ahead. I would also never get their waffles again. I so wanted to like this place. It is near work and is not "fast" food. The first time that I went they did not have the shrimp and grits, although on the menu, and although I had already paid for it. I had to ask to be compensated or reimbursed for the difference in what I ordered and what I received. This is an issue for me. I ordered French toast. They use regular loaf bread and the scrambled eggs on the platter weren't carefully beaten. I tried the Portobello mushroom salad on another occasion and it was just okay. On my third try, I was able to get the shrimp and grits. I am used to creamy, cheesy grits but there was no cheese and the grits were lumpy. The small amount of grits were covered in a brown gravy and I wasn't a fan. My co-worker ordered the fish and fries. The fries were not cooked through. My first experience here at Terra Cafe will be my last! When we entered the restaurant where there were no patrons, we were greeted by a young man sitting at one of the tables eating, who simply said "hi, y'all joining us for dinner?" He didn't bother to stop eating or rise from his seat. He directed us upstairs where happy hour was taking place. There were only 3 other patrons up there. We sat down and were slowly brought waters about 10 minutes later. The young lady never said "hello", "my name is such and such", "how are you today" ...NOTHING! She sat down the waters and walked away. She came back about 5 minutes later sat down menus and walked away again. When we finally ordered, the food was such a miss. The macaroni and cheese was dry and looked as if it was reheated from the previous day. The sautéed vegetables (which was just cabbage with some peppers) was salty and the panini was very bland. We were never checked on by the server during the meal, offered to order another drink, not even a refill on our waters! Then we receive the checks and 18% gratuity is automatically included! The service that Dina (I only know her name because it was on the check) gave was not even worth the $5 gratuity that she received by automatically adding it to the check. Never Again! read more

AFTERNOON DELIGHT BEFORE PICKING UP THE KIDS--- What a joy it was to take my husband on a quick date to this humble place. On this rainy day, a little sunshine was bestowed on us in this quaint cafe. The decor is beautiful. The ethnic paintings were mesmerizing. The cafe area has intimate areas with small alcoves to sit and eat. The lounge/ bar area is charming. We opted to sit at the bar for a quick HH. We had great drinks: red and white sangria, a martini, and a refreshing cucumber melon lemonade. The paired food was delicious. I had fish, Mac and cheese and vegan greens. My husband enjoyed his vegan wrap and pineapple yams. I should have taken pictures of the dishes because they were well prepped and yummy. The music was well selected. The conversation with the bartenders were friendly. Their knowledge and suggestions of what to drink made it better. Everything was tasty. I had the unique opportunity to meet Terrence while he was establishing his restaurant that would serve good food and vibes as known as Terra Cafe while I worked at CVBD. I went yesterday and was pleased to know that the restaurant is still thriving and he continues to be a business owner. I had the pleasure to enjoy his menu delectables I ordered a fish sandwich accompanied with sauteed veggies. I can see that his passion still speaks through his delicious food. It's been about 5 years since I last visited Terra Cafe and I hate it took me so long to return. It was exactly as I remembered super chill spot with great food. After a hectic day at work and riding around the busy Bmore block to find a place to park, it was quite nice to open the door to the cafe and shut out all the noise. Our waitress was super sweet (like the lemonade ugh). We ordered the fish sub. The fish was fried beautifully golden and truly was the star of the show. The sub roll was nice but overpowered the fish in size and thickness. I ended up removing half of the roll. The fries were meh. Next time I'll get the platter and definitely try the macaroni and cheese I was eyeing on my neighbor's plate. read more

After suffering from a terrible bout of food poisoning (which was caused by a fluke from a food truck), I vowed to NEVER eat chicken again. But then, I was brought here one night before a concert and feeling brave, I ate a bite of the jerk chicken and I WAS SAVED. It really is that delicious! JERK CHICKEN: So so so delicious. I've been here a handful of times and always get that! The chicken is well seasoned and has both dark and white meat. Very juicy meat with crispy skin. POTATO SALAD: One of the best potato salads I have ever had. There's sweet potatoes in it! And also hardboiled eggs! And it's creamy, zesty, and I could probably eat a whole gallon. MASHED POTATOES: They know what's up because they use red potatoes with the skin on! Thank you so much for not bastardizing mashed potatoes into creamed mush like so many other places. MAC CHEESE: Oozy, gooey, savory, and goes great with the chicken. YAMS: There's sweet pieces of pineapple, chunky yams (maybe brown sugar?). Definitely try it! THE SERVICE: Every single time I've been here, I've been impressed by how amazingly sweet and nice everyone is. They also answer the phone with such a pleasant greeting that it made me want to order more food just because. I told the young man who took my order how I heard about this spot and how far I came to try out their food. He was nice.... but had a very hard time concentrating on taking my order. Why? Because the music speaker is right next to the cash register he couldn't HEAR. I asked him, if possible to turn it down, he didn't. I ordered the famous Fish Sub.
