I had my weekly coffee shop Saturday at Kanom Cafe. I'm from Baltimore and was visiting over the weekend, and chose Kanom because I'd never been there before. It's within the Johns Hopkins college campus & a neighborhood, so parking is really horrible. I ended up parking in a non spot and putting my hazards on. It's a cute little, but spacious place located next to an airport building. It's on the corner and has a nice little outside seating area with about 5 tables. Inside is bigger than it looks and has a nice amount of seating as well. Since my time was limited, I didn't really get to explore the menu like I wanted, so I ordered a hazelnut latte and a ham & cheese croissant. Their croissants looked so good, I wanted one of each. They also had several toasts on their menu. I'll have to go back for sure! Th service was regular, you order, they tell you how much you owe and you pay. I got in my car and couldn't wait. My first bite was like a bite into heaven. Every bite was the same way, so delicious & delicate. I wish I had two. The latte was perfect, just the right amount of hazelnut. If you haven't come here yet idk what you're doing because every pastry I've gotten here has been a HIT. Matcha crookie was so gluttonous, I'm glad they only do it on weekends otherwise I'd be getting this all the time. Their pineapple coconut croissant is so fresh (summertime pastry). Love their matchas too, always very balanced. Great vibes inside, always people chatting or working. Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in Baltimore. read more

The almond croissant is one of the best I've had! I also enjoyed the Sakura (matcha with strawberry sauce). The other pastries looked delicious, but I didn't want to overdo it today. After attending the Baltimore Museum of Art to see the Amy Sherald exhibit "American sublime," we were looking for a place to gather to have some drinks. We found great service in this cozy neighborhood cafe. We walked in one Saturday afternoon and were greeted with the welcoming aroma of oven-baked croissants. I thoroughly enjoyed the almond croissant and the delicious, fragrant taro latte. My young niece, A, enjoyed her lemonade spritzer with honey. Will definitely return. read more

Came here with a friend on a Thursday morning after a visit to JHU. This is on a small side street by the university and there is free street parking available. There is exclusively indoor seating with several tables though it was busy enough by 10:30 am that only ~2 tables were free. It looks like this is a spot a lot of people work/study at. They have numerous desserts in their bakery displays but we only tried the drinks since we weren't hungry. Sakura latte (iced) 4/5; this is a strawberry matcha, didn't really taste any Sakura or other cherry flavoring that said I did enjoy this latte. Baltimore Bakery Crawl stop #2 of seven places! My best friend, her college bestie, husband, and I spent Sunday 2/2 exploring different Baltimore bakeries. I tried three things here, so this review is based on that! This bakery wins the aesthetically pleasing award of the seven bakeries we visited. It looks like an amazing spot to meet up with friends or get some work done (some people had their laptops out). They had plenty of seating available and pastries/cakes that will look incredible in any of your yelp photos. As a group we ordered the cream cheese garlic bun and strawberry choco chiffon cake. I also got a mocha. The cake wasn't for me, the strawberry was too artificial for my liking and the cake itself was very ok. The bun was fun, the cream cheese filling was a bit sweet, overall it was fine. My mocha was ok too. It was cool to visit this charming spot. It's very vibey. read more

This place offers quality food for reasonable prices and is way more my speed than the overly curated places in more visible spots of the city. I came here on a Monday morning after reading about this new bakery! It was a little hard to find as there wasn't a sign outside. We saw a red awning, looked into the window, and saw it was the bakery. The owners were really nice. I ordered 3 croissants (regular, almond, and double chocolate) and the brioche blueberry roll. I also got an opera cake and a lemon raspberry cake. We also got a cappuccino and a peach soda. They had a couple of groups in there already. All the baked goods were beautiful! My pastries were packaged nicely. We waited to try it when we got home. The croissants were really good. My husband loves a good plain croissant. I enjoyed the double chocolate. They were flakey and delicious. The cakes were fantastic. Super great flavor and delicious. The brioche blueberry was good, but i probably wouldn't get it again. They are a little pricey, but I guess with rising costs these days, it's hard to avoid. read more

This place has a really nice cozy feel. Lots of folks studying and working, beautiful laminated dough pastries. I got the garlic cream cheese bun--it was good. A delicious mess but a little too sweet for me. In retrospect I should have gotten one of the amazing looking croissants. I noticed after I ordered that you can watch them fold the dough around the side of the cafe. Would definitely come back. read more

I make French croissants at home, and have for about 5 years, and every time I go to a new city I try all the croissant places to see where the best one is. I recently moved to Baltimore and have now tried them all. I can confidently say this is the best croissant in Baltimore. 5 star rating for flavor, texture and consistency across products. This cafe/pastry shop/coffeeshop in the Ambassador building spans French to Thai and does everything well! I've stopped by three times now - sometimes for just a coffee, sometimes for coffee and a pastry. The service is the best (everyone is so sweet), and the coffee is always great. I don't have a huge sweet tooth (more of a savory girl), so some of the pastries are a little too sweet for me, but they are beautiful - and they always seem to have different pastries every time I stop in! It has some inside seating (seems to be popular with students who live nearby already since it has quiet, peaceful, could study here vibes), and a few tables outside as well. Staff here is super friendly and kind. The space here is also very nice, clean and modern. The pastries here are very good. Love the banana bread here as well as their cheddar biscuit. When you bite into the biscuit, there's a very satisfying crunch that turns into a delicious softness. The Thai tea latte w/oat milk is also very very good. It's great on a cold winter day. I grab and go from here when I convince myself I deserve something nice just for idk... being an adult. Really EVERYTHING here is good! All pastries are fresh, never too sweet or overindulgent and iced lattes are made perfectly balanced. Taro/Espresso w/ Vanilla Bean are my usuals. I never knew this place existed! After finding out my other coffee shop was out of my favorite pastry, I decided to do a search and came here on a random Friday afternoon. Kanom is located near John Hopkins undergrad campus. I got the sense the cafe has seen better days. Upon first entry you think it's going to be quite posh but then you see a lot of handwritten signs, the signs the team is looking for a new pastry chef. I ordered a glass of tea hoping it would be fancy for $5 but it was just a tea bag. I got two danishes, one savory (sausage and egg) and the other apple. It was served on a paper plate, the staff did heat it up for me. The interior is quite large, there's a big table for those who want to study. There's also a cute bookshelf with a few Harry Potter books and Hermes Monde, which was dated but still fun to look through. I hope they staff up and stay open. My second visit after the first bowled me over. I got Basque cheesecake,asparagus pastry and one of the famous cream cheese breads. This bakery is a gem. The cheesecake is the best rendition of a Basque cheesecake I have had in a while. Properly deeply browned, light and airy but substantial, subtly sweet and vanilla-y. So good. My second time getting cream cheese bread and I am forever a fan. I had the almond croissant previously and it was so good. The cutest addition to the Canterbury area! Kanom is a Thai and French inspired bakery/cafe with the super unique pastry offerings. I ordered their brioche cinnamon roll, a sausage and egg croissant, and their iced matcha. The person at the counter was super kind and let me know that they offer more limited pastry flavors on the weekends (like that beautiful Thai one that I must get my hands on). The matcha tasted a lot like a bubble tea and less like a creamy earthy traditional matcha. Not bad but just unexpected. The place is very clean and neat, I'd advise to go early in the mornings to get the freshest of goodies. I came an hour before close and my goods weren't the fluffiest but still tasty. read more

We've tried a few to-go pastries and a salad from Kanom, and everything has been delicious! Haven't managed to get there early enough to try one of the fancy flavor croissants, but we have tried the chocolate one and it's great! Honestly thought I would find it too sweet, but it's a perfect pastry to share. The satay salad was great - the chicken is impossibly tender, the sauce is really delicious, and everything is really fresh. I wish they were around when I lived closer so they could be a consistent lunch option for me, but we'll definitely make a point of visiting often! read more

I got a hot matcha and it was very sweet and not at all like a traditional matcha. I'm not even sure they used real matcha-- it tasted like a sweet syrup or flavoring. I wish it had been specified on the menu what goes in it because it was pretty expensive ($6 plus a tip). The person working the counter though was very friendly, though. read more
