The Bun Shop is a large open yet dark space with a good amount of seating. They will heat up your bun selections for immediate enjoyment. We got ours heated for the train trip, since they were stored chilled. I understand the whole grunge, dark vibe, but every surface I sat at, touched, or could see had fingerprints and smudges on it, and it just didn't sit right with me. The space felt dark and a bit run down, and the menus had several items crossed out, which added to that overall impression. We ordered the ham and cheese gruyère and the breakfast bun, and both were disappointing and gross. They tasted old, lacked flavor, and the textures were off. Me and my daughter came here on a Friday afternoon, the ambience was very relaxed and chill. It looks like a haunted Café with medieval times inside, very different, but Adam in which it was his first day was very kind and did a great job servicing us. My boyfriend and I came here a little too many times on our short trip to the city (to be fair, it was down the street from our hotel). While it's a touch too dark to feel overwhelming welcoming, the pastries and drinks hold up. The gothic interior was actually charming-- really brought me back to grandma's house, especially with the huge community tables and ancient furniture. One day they were a little understaffed so our drinks took forever, but the other days were fine and we felt the quality maintained. Came late on a Friday night and the vibe was pretty confusing. I wasn't thrilled that it seemed to faintly smell of cigarettes when we walked in. Like that they have all the flyers for local arts events around town. The Nutella cookie that I had was pretty good, and it's nice that they warm it up. Unfortunately this place is just overall kind of mid. I had an iced white peach tea (very good, best thing here), along with a Vietnamese iced coffee and a cheese, egg and onion bun. Typically, places with a specific food in their name are quite good but the bun was just eh. Like not bad enough to say anything bad about it, but it's supremely ordinary. Loved checking this spot out. It's extremely hip and trendy. The hours make it incredible for a meetup spot for any group project or meeting. They have tables that can fit 12-15 people. The aesthetic is kind of goth and edgy. There are still a lot of comfortable seating options too. The people who work here are incredible. They're easy to talk to and really helpful. I loved that they talked to me about the different buns and which ones were best. I ordered the lemon rotiboy and the honey matcha latte. I wish I realized there were straws sooner because there was so much ice in the honey matcha it felt really watered down. When I finally got a straw I got more of the flavor. The matcha was 3.5 stars for me. My lemon rotiboy had a zesty tang. It was very filling. My friend ordered a stuffed bun and there wasn't a lot of filling inside, but she enjoyed what she did have. That being said, when I walked through those Bun Shop doors I immediately thought I made a wrong turn and was now in a crack house! There's jazz playing on the speakers, and the decor feels like old timey American meets dark academia. There are a lot of outlets and extension cords around, making this a popular spot for remote working (also, they're open until 3 am!!). I love that a place like this exists! A late night cafe is what every community needs :) This cafe is located on a little street decorated with hanging lights at night time. It has a real old timey charm about it, from the streets to the interior. The cafe has tons of seating and outlets. The service was great and very friendly. I ordered an iced Hong Kong and a rotiboy. The barista said they were out, so they had to get some from the other location earlier, and he said he could make me a fresh one. The Hong Kong was pretty good and nicely sweetened. Make sure to mix it up because I think I only tasted the espresso first then the tea. The fresh bread took about 15 mins and came out super warm. It was so nice of him to make a fresh one for me! If you do get a chance to try it warm, it's SO GOOD. Such a simple bread but it was super comforting. The crust on top is just a bit sweet and the bread is soft and chewy. I think it's a sweet bread but overall it leaned more neutral/salty. This would've been really good dunked in a hot beverage. I'd love to try the matcha one next time if they have it. If I was still a student, this would be the perfect spot for late night studying or just catching up with a friend. read more

WHAT I'VE TRIED: Viet iced coffee Chocolate Viet Thai iced tea Rotiboy DRINKS/FOOD: Everything has been pretty good! I will say that if you're looking for a sickly sweet and strong ca phe sua da like the kind you'll find at traditional Viet bakeries or restaurants, this is not it. It seemed a bit more like a sweet latte to me, but was nevertheless good. The chocolate Viet is what I would recommend. The Thai iced tea was also wonderful, and was perfectly brewed and sweetened. I'd come back for that. The rotiboy!!! So good. It was actually my first one. Texturally, think pineapple bun / concha / melonpan but with a thinner crust. Nice and warm too. SERVICE: Baristas have always been kind every time I'm here and have made recommendations for me when they're out of something. VIBES: SPECTACULAR. Tons of seating, including comfy sofas and outlets. The times I've been here, people are definitely on the grind getting some work done, so it's pretty quiet. You can come here with a friend and chat but you might stand out. COVID SAFETY: Pretty standard. No outdoor seating, but staff have their masks on at all times. BOTTOM LINE: I wouldn't say this would be my Viet coffee go-to, but definitely a go-to to get some work done, especially late at night. There isn't enough seating or tables for how busy this coffee shop gets. I also ordered a chai tea and it tasted more like hot water. Also, like I said the shop seemed pretty busy and only one person was both taking and making the orders so that could be the reason for the drink not tasting good.
