Baltimore Bakery Crawl stop #3 of seven places! My best friend, her college bestie, her husband, and I spent Sunday 2/2 exploring different Baltimore bakeries. I tried one thing here, so this review is based on that! This super cute bakery is extremely small. It's a tight space that doesn't fit a lot of people, but there are two really small round tables that could fit three seated guests. We came for the famous almond croissant, but unfortunately it was sold out by the time we arrived. We ended up trying the pain au chocolat. We opted to sit outside on their bench by their cute logo. I found myself wishing the croissant was a bit fresher, maybe because we came around 11 it changed something? I'd still return to try the almond croissant.

If they had the pistachio croissant every day I would give them a sixth star. They recently added breakfast sandwiches which I am excited to try soon!

Sitting in Maillard Pastries for 20 minutes eating a perfectly-baked croissant, I listened as the worker greeted customer after customer by name with genuine conversation. The sight shows what kind of place Maillard Pastries is- a neighborhood bakery that cares. It's a small spot inside a rowhouse in Hampden, but it's cozy. Most people get their baked goods to-go, but there are a few small tables for those who want to stay. My chocolate croissant was perfectly flaky on the outside while being warm and soft on the inside. The chocolate to dough ratio is just right.

I've been here a few times--the cashiers and bakers are always lovely, and the glass case of pastries always beckons! It's quite small, so I wouldn't expect to get the table unless you go at off hours. Food-wise, it's quite a variety! What they seem to be known for, and always run out of, are the almond croissants. They're quite good, with plentiful frangipane! However, I've also found the croissant itself to be a bit dry, lacking the buttery softness that a perfect croissant exudes. They usually have a collection of hand pies--I was underwhelmed when I tried them. Fine, but unexciting. Likewise for the cakes, which are good and pretty, but certainly not something I would travel for, and are overshadowed by their other offerings. However, I really enjoy it when they offer tarts! Perfect crusts, fillings that tend a little too sweet, but certainly delicious. I would certainly recommend whatever tart they have, regardless of other offerings. At my last visit Maillard had fig and honey tarts, which were beautiful and delicious!

Happened upon the Hamilton location while stopped at a red light. What a great find! Even four days after purchase, 30 seconds in the microwave made the chocolate croissant taste perfect. Highly recommend this great little unpretentious patisserie.

Maillard Pastries is THE best pastry shop in Baltimore. I've been coming here since it opened & can undoubtedly say the service, pastries & drinks are unrivaled. The croissants are always *extremely* flaky and I've appreciated how their ingredients match the seasons. Right now, they've got a Tomato, Goat Cheese, Pesto galette that's so summery & perfect. Flaky & savory & the tomatoes melt in your mouth. In the fall, though, they turn to apples & squash. Their apple spiced bundt cake was amazing. My favorite regulars are the Morning Bun, Spinach Snail, and Ham & Cheese. Be sure to check their instagram stories for updated daily menus! I can't omit their drinks/cake menu either. Their house made honey syrup for an iced latte is so unique. Their cakes are gorgeous & always moist. I wish there was room to sit & hangout, but thankfully they opened up a second shop on Harford Rd with plenty of room & sometimes breakfast sandos! Totally worth the drive over there.

Absolutely amazing! An adorable, quaint little bakery tucked into a brightly painted rowhouse. We stopped here after brunch to pickup some tasty treats for my brother's birthday. I checked their Instagram for what was available, and we ended up getting two boxes of lemon merengue tarts. They were excellent! Each bite packs a tart lemon and sugary sweet punch. Everyone in my family loved theirs and couldn't stop telling me how delicious they were. On top of how insanely good the tarts were, the employees were so sweet (pun intended ), kind, and helpful! We can't wait to come back for more! Official review from my GBBO-obsessed fiancée: it was absolutely scrummy. You deserve a handshake

Maillard has been consistently outstanding. Wow! I am so impressed with their innovative confections. They have such unique pastries and I am SO freaking happy they now serve coffee drinks such as lattes. I truly believe Maillard is the hottest bakery in Baltimore right now. I am excited to try their other location which I think has breakfast sandwiches. If this location produced an egg breakfast sandwich I would be here everyday lol.

Opened for six weeks, Hampden now has its own French pastry place on Chestnut, across the street from newly relocated Common Grounds and around the corner from recently renovated Charmery. Small quibble: Limited hours (Sat.-Mon.!) and food so good, they run out and might close before the 3 p.m. time. Otherwise, a citrus cheese danish and almond croissant I consumed were fantastic! They also have quiche of the day and carrot goat cheese puffs, among other savory categories. This is the real deal, amigos--or should I say mes amis!

Amazing pastries. I bought a handprint for my son, but I ate it before I got home. Too good to resist.

It's within the Johns Hopkins college campus & a neighborhood, so parking is really horrible. I ended up parking in a non spot and putting my hazards on. It's a cute little, but spacious place located next to an airport building. It's on the corner and has a nice little outside seating area with about 5 tables. Inside is bigger than it looks and has a nice amount of seating as well. Since my time was limited, I didn't really get to explore the menu like I wanted, so I ordered a hazelnut latte and a ham & cheese croissant. Their croissants looked so good, I wanted one of each. They also had several toasts on their menu. I'll have to go back for sure! Th service was regular, you order, they tell you how much you owe and you pay. I got in my car and couldn't wait. My first bite was like a bite into heaven. Every bite was the same way, so delicious & delicate. I wish I had two. The latte was perfect, just the right amount of hazelnut. Kanom Cafe is a must try!

Arrived in the afternoon during a busy weekend and decided to take out for desserts. My first visit and was underwhelmed by the service received. Rushed and transactional. Packaging was very sloppy and my napoleons were shoved to the side, making the clear clamshells very messy when I arrived home. If only the desserts were saving grace, but was left disappointed as well. As others have mentioned, the pastries do not taste fresh. The ricotta cream in the original cannoli tasted warm and gritty, the shell was stale. I noticed these were sitting out. The puff pastry in the Napoleons were soggy. The cream puffs shell was stale and chocolate topping was super sweet, unfortunately these were far from heavenly. Maybe another day, Vaccaro.

The vibe inside was relaxing. We were here for a few hours enjoying our coffee, tea and desserts and it was a nice place to pass the time on a cold, freezing day. The thing that dropped the review was basically the coffee and desserts. The coffee was fine, but just your standard coffee that you'd find at any gas station. The cannoli was overly sweet and the cookies we ordered felt stale. Interestingly, they charge more for sit down desserts vs. takeout. The servers were very sweet to share that we could order takeout and not have to pay the extra fee. Finally, not sure why, but there was not a lot of heating inside the restaurant. We ate with our jackets on, which was fine. But found that to be a little odd. Nobody seemed to know why they couldn't get the heat on. When it's below freezing, it would be nice to escape the chill. Overall, it was a nice stop. My kids loved it. But it was not without some quirks.

I realized that their online ordering was actually quite easy and their pick up hours were a bit more accessible than I remember them being. I asked if it could be sliced like the white bread loaf can but I was informed that the classic sourdough loaf is too large to fit in the slicer. I also love the fact that they offer a pay what you can program and a pay it forward option. And judging by their fundraising for important causes, this is a business I will continue to support. For $7, I thought it was a great deal for such a large and beautiful loaf. It froze and reheated very well too so none of it went bad. I wish I could try more of the menu but I should probably play it safe. If you're gluten intolerant and tend to be able to tolerate sourdough, I definitely recommend giving their classic loaf a try.
