Fabulous old-timey bakery. We are fortunate they are still here. Often, there are long lines, especially on Saturdays and at the holidays. Staff are attentive and patient while customers make up their minds. Outstanding quality. Definitely not corporate baking that we find throughout this area. They are small but that is only on space not service or taste. Heard about the Peach rolls and Chocolate Donuts so decided to give them a try. A smaller spot that is grab and go. Read their story and interesting how they've changed and evolved over the years. I got there around 3:30 on a Thursday so some items were sold out or low (morning next time.) Found out the Peach Roll was a seasonal item-it will return next summer. The Chocolate frosted Donut didn't disappoint (I got the last one). I don't think I've ever seen so much frosting on a Donut! Got some other pastries to try and we enjoyed all of them especially the Raisin and Raspberry Danish. Saw a good variety of Cookies (by the pound), Bread, Pies and of course Cakes for ordering. Very quality. Much yum. Wow. Today's excursion was for the beloved Balmer institution of smearcase, as written up by Atlas Obscura. It's like cheesecake but both softer and firmer at the same time. Softer taste, smoother, creamier, yet it holds together more like a cheese pastry than a cheesecake. And this is the place you'll want to get it! While I was there, I splurged on a couple of other fun items, such as the cookies noted above. They are nice and crispy. I don't like crispy cookies but these were a gift and the gift was well received, so there you go! Finally, they had these... chocolate things. Turns out they were chocolate covered chocolate muffins. That idea alone is worth 5 stars. I brought that to the chocolate loving child of the giftee household and I can vouch that it was extremely well received. So between all that and the cake? This is your spot. Brave the neighborhood - it's really not bad at all here - and wait your turn, and you will be richly rewarded. Ask about the smearcase (or cheesecake, they kept calling it). This is a 100 year old family run Swiss bakery that was passed on to its head bakers. The tradition is alive...and well...in Hamilton, Baltimore. Wow do I love their homemade rolls, breads, but the danish and marshmallow creme donut are to die fir. Here's a fun thing to do. I been going to Fenwick bakery for 50+ years. it was a tradition for my birthday to be bought from this bakery. Yesterday when I had my cake it was very dry and the icing definitely was not appealing. they used to make beautiful roses out of the icing. They were fluffy and delicious. Bought 2 pies. Blueberry crumb pie and a Key lime pie. Not impressed. The key lime lacked any flavor. Was way too gooey and the crust did not seem fully cooked. The best part was the immense amount of whipped cream which made it look impressive. But lacked everything I was expecting. The Blueberry pie looked like a Sara Lee frozen pie and my son said that the 'filling' tasted like preserves. If you like that type of pie this is your place. Personally, I like the real blueberries in it. Again, the crust did not look or taste home made. Maybe I was expecting too much. I will continue to make my own which my husband prefers. read more

I came in for donuts but I'll be coming back for the peach roll. This small shop is unassuming and baked in tradition. You can tell when you walk in that there were millions of delicious treats made here over the years. My main goal was to come in to grab some donuts for my co-workers until I was met with some beautiful peaches in the display. Still got the donuts which were great btw and had some of the best, thick icing chocolate on the yeast donut. BUT the star of the show was the peach roll. It honestly doesn't look like much but the second I bit into that thing, the juice from that quarter peach slice was rolling down the side of my mouth. Always amazing doughnuts! The chocolate raised is unparalleled; it's light and fluffy and icing tastes like quality chocolate. The rolls and bread are great. I don't love the prepackaged cupcakes or the cookies but everything else is great. One of the only places to get the Baltimore regional dessert smearcase and I think its the best in Baltimore. It was a slight sweetness not overwhelming but light and delicate and the crust was delicate and light as well, like a pastry. Im in love. Small, locally owned business. Their case is always well stocked with fresh goodies. Our favorites include their famous marshmallow donuts and cherry pastries. They also make reasonably priced cakes to order. For an affordable price they made our sons Harry Potter cake with fondant and matching cupcakes. The only thing lacking at this bakery is that it is in serious need of a remodel. Many of the ceiling tiles are discolored and stained, which isn't what you want to see at a place you're buying food. read more
