They moved to Cranbrook a long time ago and at least two generations of Simon's were keeping up shop. Legend has it that Mr Simon pretty much lived in the place!! Well, the Simon family sold the business about a year ago to a Latino family. They are great folks and quick to offer a happy greeting upon entering the shop. Their famed sugar cookies dominate the display cases behind the counter. My mission this morning was to acquire two parcels of a deeply personal culinary weakness: DONUTS! Made from scratch donuts. Far better than Krispy and gas station or c-store donuts. At 1.50 each, you can't beat it as far as flavor and quality go. My second visit in about a month. I'll try to make it more frequently, but, you know, donuts... It's easy to stumble...

A three-tier cake that embodied our horoscopes, had rainbows in it, crystals, a red carpet, and the moon and stars as a cake topper! All was genius! It was a red velvet cake with cream cheese and strawberry filling. I didn't want to freeze it because it is so freaking delicious! Overall, I wouldn't have gone with anyone else for my wedding cake but Jason and the cake was made with such love and inspiration!

For my personal taste, the batter could have been a little sweeter, and I felt the frosting could have used just about a tablespoon more butter for a richer flavor.
