Simon's has been part of my life since they had a location at Loch Raven and Cold Spring in NE Baltimore when I was young. Before it was Simon's the Otterbein's name was over the storefront. They moved to Cranbrook a long time ago and at least two generations of Simon's were keeping up shop. Legend has it that Mr Simon pretty much lived in the place!! Well, the Simon family sold the business about a year ago to a Latino family. They are great folks and quick to offer a happy greeting upon entering the shop. Their famed sugar cookies dominate the display cases behind the counter. My mission this morning was to acquire two parcels of a deeply personal culinary weakness: DONUTS! Made from scratch donuts. Far better than Krispy and gas station or c-store donuts. At 1.50 each, you can't beat it as far as flavor and quality go. My second visit in about a month. I have been a Simons Bakery customer since they were on HanoverStreet in Baltimore City! My parents used to get the most delicious peach cake and buns and turnovers when I was a child. And I followed them to both locations in Baltimore County because their baked goods remained the same! Until now. I bought a peach cake at their Cockeysville location yesterday and although the peaches were the same sweet and delicious, the cake part wasn't the same. I was disappointed. I know it is no longer a family run bakery anymore but I thought they got the recipes from the Simon family. I hope they do if they haven't because I won't be going back. The cake part of the peach cake just needs a little something to make it taste like Simon's!! read more

I have been going to Simons forever. They are the best bakery I have ever been in. The desserts are perfect. They taste delicious. My favorites are party cakes with jelly in them. The choco!ate top cookies are excellent too. The sugar cookies are perfect. My mom used to to g treats home when I was little and now I do it. read more

I can understand a few customers are having issues with the bakery, but that's a personal preference. We have been visiting the bakery for the last two years after we discovered it after dinner at Pappas. I love their products because it's very rare you find bakeries nowadays that make good food. The owner is very pleasant and very accommodating to her customers. We needed a birthday cake and believe it or not they baked one specifically for us and that was appreciated. Gone downhill since change of ownership in 2024; end of year. Way downhill. Cookie quality has fallen. They shelves used to be lined with tons of cookies; made perfectly for 15-20 years. Now it's awful. I don't know who's baking now but the cookies are horrible. The ginger cookies are terrible now and the rest are rushed. No selection anymore as well. This shop has been in business over 136yrs. 1st Bmore city moved to Baltimore County and landed in Cockeysville several years ago. The owner is there everyday has to be 100yrs old, the staff are long timers too! Just really nice folks! Razor thin sugar cookies are to die for, and addictive!!! Craziest thing, the cookies are cut for the season(crabs, Easter and Christmas). Chocolate chips were just out of the oven and simply delish. If you know me you know I live for an old school bakery. This didn't disappoint. I was in area and passed by and decided to go in. It was end of day so cases were kinda empty. I snapped up cupcakes , cookies and a lemon meringue pie slice. All for about $10. I kept adding more items and it was all so cheap. I didn't even ask prices but was waaaay less even than grocery store(blah) or the bakeries that i am accustomed to. I ate the orange cupcake in my car as a prelude...did not disappoint. Tasted like little candied orange peel in frosting. Can't wait to munch on others. Lemon meringue pie is heavenly and with toasted meringue on top-sweet like marshmallow -not regular meringue. Soooooo good. Cookies crisp and slightly sweet. Had many different shapes in store. I spied crab shaped which added to my end of summer despair - I went with the circles. What a great find: an old fashioned bakery of the kind I grew up with (yep, I'm old...smile) The only other one I've found in this area is Fenwick on Harford Rd. This one is every bit as good as Fenwick too and much more convenient for us now. I'm not saying that everything I tried was of 5 star quality but some of it was stellar (e.g. marshmallow bun) and all of it was yummy. A true, old fashioned bakery. I got a nostalgic feeling walking in the door. Based on the side selection of flavors , it looks like they are known for their paper thin sugar cookies. The cookies are more like a sweet cracker and very unique! I grew up working at Italian bakeries, so I've never had anything like these. I saw one was nutmeg flavor, which intrigued me because you don't see that very often and the nice lady working let me sample one. It was delicious and addicting! We bought a small bag for $1.75 (I think) and my 2 year old loved them too! I wish I'd bought the larger bag. Crunchy, not too sweet, and a strong nutmeg flavor. My son also loved meeting Mr. Simon and pushing the interactive buttons on the train set in the window. We got to talking and learned that mr. Simon sets up a different train scene for each holiday/season so we will have to come back to see what he does next! This one was Halloween and there are four buttons to press. It's like a very scaled down version of what they have at kenilworth without a crowd. I'd love to come back and try a doughnut-this visit was close to closing time so they had none left. read more

Add me to the list of believers - Simon's Sugar Cookies are quite possibly the best. These delicately thin, scalloped edge cookies are perfection to taste and see. They come in a number of varieties, so far we've had the regular and cinnamon sugar. But I'm looking forward to working my way through all the offerings. The cookies are really all I can comment on since the place was virtually empty by the time we stopped in. We managed to snag a cream horn and a German cheesecake type dessert, the name escapes me at the moment, but both paled in comparison to the cookies. They do come in 1/4, 1/2 and 1 lb bags. Might I suggest picking up at least 1/2 lbs bags, possibly multiples? You'll thank me for it. read more

Step aside Grandma, Simon's cookies are a winner! Ventured to Simon's in search of additional Thanksgiving dessert items and found myself intrigued by the mounds of bagged cookie they had on hand. Purchased the Ginger cookies, sugar and cinnamon sugar for a nice sampling. I found the cookies to be crispy and flavorful! Eating their cookies is a two hand process, one to hold the cookie, the other should be placed under your chin to catch the crumbs. I look forward to sampling their other bakery products. read more

Simon's Bakery is a classic for my family that my kids love and always have growing up, especially around the holidays.
