Nancy by SNAC is a gem in the Station North neighborhood of Baltimore City. Opened but Downtown Kevin Brown and his late husband Bill Maughlin. Kevin is the type of owner that gets to know all of his customers and often calls people by name as they walk in the door. I want to tell you how the other food is but I always get the cornbread waffle and the ginger lemon tea. Both of those things are a good as they sound. The cornbread waffle is the perfect texture and the perfect balance of sweet and savory. There is also a Belgian waffle which looks great but the cornbread waffle has me in a death grip. The tea reminds me of my grandmother's sweet tea. This place always feels like home. As I left the lunch specials were going up on the board, and I should have taken a picture to give you a feel for the other wonderful offerings. The space always has amazing art. It's like a mini gallery. It don't know how often it changes but it is different every time I go. read more

Great little spot on North Ave. The inside is definitely a feast for the eyes, the outside is plain and belies the riot of color and pattern once you step in. The menu is small and seems to be ever changing. The cornbread was especially wonderful! The sandwiches were stuffed and very good. Simple but delicious. The characters behind the counter are also wonderful and friendly. If you find yourself in the area, this is a wonderful spot. The college employs police that give some sense of security to an otherwise sketchy location. Worth it! read more

Met the infamous Kevin of Nancy, interesting character. There for a business meeting. Ambiance was eclectic as to be expected. Food for vegetarian was needing more options. Hasbrowns came out good but in a 1/4 ounce plastic bowl. Seasoning& heat were okay, but needed more onion and sweet peppers for visual appeal. Had the quiche leeks and gruyere i believe, decent size While there meet politician Carl Stokes, and talk about state of affairs. Always been a decent dude, who shares his perspectives. I was looking for a quick lunch near the Baltimore Penn Station. I wandered past the local McDonald's, and saw this amazingly attractive museum diner, Nancy's by SNAC, which was just finishing lunch service, but it was pouring rain, so I took a chance to drop in. The art wasn't an afterthought: it was a bold visual metaphor for the meal to come. Kevin greeted me instantly and stopped to see what I might want to have. I saw others really enjoying their sandwiches and breakfast eggs, but I saw the special was chipped beef on biscuits, and I really wanted to try the biscuits, so I ordered it, along with scrambled eggs. The gravy was perfect on the chipped beef, and it was lathered over the flaky biscuits. Kevin felt sorry for me and slipped me two extra biscuits, and we had a minute to chat about the business, and his former career as a special educaiton teacher. Everything about Nancy's, including the value of the meal, makes it a definite reason to visit again when I return to Baltimore: I loved the straightforward high quality food, the ambience of the art; the genunine hospitality, the relationship to the art gallery next door! read more

This Spot is Thee Breakfast/Brunch spot to go to before work or school! Kevin has been a dose of medicine my soul needs this past 2 years I have been going ! He and his staff put love in every bite! If you are new to Baltimore or a Baltimore Native you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! My favorite dish is hard to choose but if you making me choose here is what you should have in this order: 1: Cornbread Waffle with 2 slices of Turkey Bacon 2: a cup of coffee of course 3: Turkey Chili with a slice of Sweet Corn Bread the turkey chili is a hug to your tummy 4: shrimp salad sandwich on 5: snac stack it's everything you need! It's not just any ol place it's a place to receive the history of Baltimore and Network with Baltimore natives...even the outer town people are super Dope! The owner Kevin is well-known by the community. It's a simpler menu but a colorful atmosphere of the movers and shakers in Baltimore with beautiful art on the walls.You might get to experience an art installation while you're there, chat with a local councilman or learn about an art opening from a local artist. This restaurant is the only reason I'd ever go over to North Ave. Ever since MICA and JHU took over the neighborhood has gone down hill but Nancy's brings the BALTIMORE and the COMMUNITY back! Cornbread and soups to die for. BIG SANDWICHES oatmeal like mom used to make and grits Grits GRITS! Kevin and his husband are masters and their staff are welcoming and cheerful. Great place to sit down and get some work done with a cup of never ending coffee. Family friendly as well the kids love Uncle Kevin and ask to go back (mainly for the oatmeal). I was headed to McDonalds cuz my car was taking forever at a nearby shop. McDonalds? Really, Kevin? I saw this cute café with two guys finishing breakfast outside in the shade and figured "why not?" Breakfast food was good from my home in Tennessee. I went straight for the grits sausage and eggs. Coffee. Tap water. $1 surcharge to use my credit card. $10 or so total. Easy. I sat outside by noisy North Avenue with Morgan State radio streaming thru tue café's sound system. I remember twenty years ago when I would walk hurriedly through this part of town into the "good part" of Mt Vernon. Now? This café, street scapes and improved structures. How things change. The food came out quickly and I never really made it two pages past where I started reading in my book. The Dragon Reborn. Book 3, for the 14th time. The presentation was nice, The cheesy scrambled eggs in a round like the sausage patty. The grits wet with melted butter and a hefty piece of corn bread butter melting on it too. Butter everywhere. Yes, Lawd. This was begging me to try and eat slowly, to savor it. Just try. (I swallow my food whole, generally. I'm a teacher. It's a thing). First the eggs. Scrambled with cheese. They weren't hard like cafe eggs can be. A little dry but the taste made up for that small detail. The sausage patty (which is never my favorite item for breakfast) was juicy and tasty. Perfect temperature. Ready to eat. I scarfed it down. Maybe I like sausage more than I think? I'm bad with grits. I usually either want a ton of sugar and butter if I eat them alone or an egg over easy and bacon and cheese all over them. That wasn't an option. I found myself savoring the grits, eating them like I do yogurt or ice cream. Intimately tasting each bite, getting two bites out of each spoonful. I watched people go by, wondering about their lives. Taste. Mmmm. These grits are good! Caught up in the R&B piping thru (normally not my thing -- house music here). The food amd the music went together perfectly. Finally the cornbread. Ok y'all no one makes cornbread like my mom down in Tennessee. It's almost like a dessert. Made with buttermilk and sweet! And super moist. So with hesitation, I took a bite. Oh, my! The butter on top had melted into the bread adding extra moisture. It was sweet. Like cake but not quite. Momma you'd approve! It stuck to my fingers amd I was sucking off bits of sticky bread when the cute guy in green came out. " It's not what it looks like!!" (although it could be). Kevin, the owner came out and chatted everyone up. Really nice guy. The people behind me were from the South too. We all loved the food. If you want a good breakfast or lunch, y'all come try it out. Around the table, we had the quiche, French toast, sausage and gravy, and egg and potato special, and everything felt homegrown and cooked to perfection. On a quest for a quick lunch one afternoon, I recalled my Yelp bookmark for SNAC. The day that I went, I discovered that the restaurant had just closed for a private event. However, the owner Kevin came to the locked door and invited me in, then prepared me a quick turkey Swiss sandwich. If you would like a friendly cozy place to relax with good clean food for a good price, come here! Kevin was the sweetest owner ever. We needed to pass some time with my elderly parents between ending an exhausting vacation and their Amtrak train home, and found this cafe just .2 mile walk away from Penn Station. We stayed there almost 3 hours, and felt welcome the entire time. Kevin greeted us, never rushed us, and made us feel like we belonged. We ordered various dishes for the 4 of us and were all pleased. My tuna was amazing, the cornbread is out of this world, and lemon ginger tea a must-have! The atmosphere of the restaurant is modern but comfortable, and unique as it is attached to an art gallery.
