It's not AYCE. But I really enjoyed the portion. I got the small plate and it was enough for me! They have sukiyaki, and other broths to choose from. Small area - bar service no booths. Join waitlist upon arrival. Service was good. Overall experience was good. I would go back again. Not bad.

Have walk past this restaurant for years and never tried it. Finally decided to give stop in with a friend and I'm so glad I did. The ingredients were all fresh and the soup tasted great and they offer free refills on veggies. Overall, it's a nice spot when the weather is cold outside. Our server was nice, but as the restaurant started to get busy. It took us several, tries to get his attention. Overall, I would recommend this Russia.

Came at noon on a Saturday and there was no wait. Service was impeccable. They refilled our waters, adjusted our stoves, and topped off our broths frequently. The quality is also great. I recommend the glass noodles even though they're extra, because they really soak up the soup flavors. The ramen is also handmade, not freeze dried, which is nice. I will say the miso broth has bonito flakes so the only true vegetarian / vegan broth is the kombu.

I decided to try Slice Shabu for lunch since I was in Fullerton for an event. I ordered a pint of Sapporo beer and 8 oz of Toro with brown rice and ramen noodles. The food was delicious. I especially loved the goma sauce. The sauce was made perfectly for meats. It came with a decent amount of veggies. I was definitely full and satisfied after I ate everything. The server was incredible. She was able to safe the whole restaurant on her own. And she was decently attentive and made sure each of the customers was taken care of. I was very impressed. I look forward to coming back and bringing some friends with me. I know they woukd really enjoy this place. And what's more, the prices are decent if not even more reasonable than most shabu places.

Came on a Sat night with no wait! I liked the presentation of the veggies, meat, and dipping sauce in the lil compartments. It made me feel so organized and neat while eating lol. I enjoyed the Toro meat (spelling). The 4oz was perfect for me but there are options for more oz for yall meat heads! Not ayce but will keep ya full and keep your cholesterol low LOL. Parking can be limited but there's structure parking on the weekends if you're lucky

I like how you can order 4, 6, 8 or 12oz of meat!! I chose 6oz, but probably could've had 8 I got double the udon as well! Btw, I had two drops of spice, and it was super spicy!! I'm glad I didn't add them to my broth too-so watch out, because I normally like spice, but this was a killer!

If I can give this place five stars 10 times I would! I've tried several hot pot places, and can confirm that this is best all around..

Stopped by for a very late lunch on a weekday and it was so empty but soooooo good! This shabu spot is located in the heart of downtown fullerton and is on the smaller side. Our server was super cool and friendly! Lots of variety in meat choices and definitely one of the more customizable shabu spots I've been to. Prices are high but worth it. I ordered the 6 oz 1855 Black Angus Prime Ribeye per our server's recommendation and was not disappointed! Meat was sliced into large pieces and was tender. Ponzu and goma were both very good as well! We were concerned about the fact that you have to pay for extra sauce because we tend to use a lot and other shabu places we've been to don't do that and it looks like there isn't much sauce on the plate but the openings are actually pretty deep so it's definitely enough sauce! I do feel like the veggie portion was a bit on the smaller side but it was perfect for me. I also really liked the presentation of my food. It came in a bento box which was very convenient in saving space on the table because usually eating shabu involves a million dishes that crowd the table! The 6 oz of meat wasn't enough for me so I got a soup base at the end and ended up getting full! I def recommend using their spicy sesame oil to add some spice and flavor to your meat and soup! It was a 5/5 overall! My family and I were pleasantly surprised by this place, we didn't expect it to be as good as it was! On the pricier side but def worth it! Can't wait to come back!

Glad to have a shabu spot right on downtown of Fullerton. Came in for lunch on a sat and the place was pretty dead inside but I got excellent service, the servers were attentive and nice. Meat was fresh, the goma and ponzu sauces were also delicious. Talking about pricing and portions I got the 4oz lamb for $24 with no unlimited veggies. With their price point offerings I'd way rather go to an ayce spot that offers unlimited food. Maybe they should consider doing ayce option to get more customers.

I love shabu but this location didn't give an enough! The portion is too small! They used to have unlimited veggies but not anymore, the rice bowl used to be filled up to the top and now it is 1/4 of that.. like a small scoop of rice! The meats were reduced to a small portion and don't forget the soup! They didn't even fill up half way of the pot! I was in shocked! The service was nice n ambience too. I won't come back anymore!

If you've done shabu, I'd say this is more for couples or lone diners. You get your own pot, but the seating is all like bar style, so if you have a group, you may not be talking to everyone. The service was great, she explained everything well and even offered to help my dad mix his sauces and spices. Loved the sukiyaki broth, sweet like I like. The meat was tender and tasty. My biggest complaint was that they didn't give too many noodles. Parking can be crazy, but if you're ok paying for parking it's pretty easy.

Love this olace! The service is always friendly, and they keep things moving smoothly, even though it's first come, first served. The food is consistently great, fresh ingredients, tasty broths, and generous portions. You'll definitely leave full and satisfied. The vibe is casual, and the staff makes you feel welcome every time. Plus, you get a lot of food for the price, making it a great value. Definitely a go-to spot whenever you're in the mood for hot pot!

Food was good. The atmosphere was a little off. The staff don't seem like they want to be there. Everyone was saying the automatic tip is bad but I did not believe until now. I think 20% tip for a party with 2 kids 8yo and 12yo and 1 elderly 80 yo barely eating much is bad. 20% tip for 5 regular adults is more reasonable. FYI, we had milk teas and snacks at Duoduo Snacks center in the morning so still full. We ordered 3 x 12oz portions and extra noodles for the kids and we cooked for them. The kids did not eat any veggies. The staff refused veggie refills for all of our 3 orders just because we shared a little rice and some meats with the kids. Fine, we ordered 2 extra veggies. Money is not a problem to us but their attitude and their acts are not very good for 20% tip!!! I guess I will go to the one in HB only now. And you should try the one in HB too. The vibe, the music, the atmosphere is very warm and more welcoming. And no 20% tip with kids or sharing with your kids in HB for sure.

Ask the Community - Slice Shabu

How many people can this restaurant seat?

    Around 30-40 maybe

    Is there unlimited vegetables?

Yes! You just ask for refills on the ones you want

Is there weekend specials? Can someone take a picture of the new menu prices?

Hello! We have bottomless mimosas deals on Saturday and Sunday with a purchase of an entree as our weekend special.

Do they still have lunch specials?

    Yes! Monday-Friday 11-3

I'm one not to care much for hot pot as the portions for me are too little & I would rather do ramen; but what's the best option of meat amount for a guy who could eat a whole size chicken & get hungry an hour later?

The largest size with custom veggies and unlimited rice with soup base should be plenty

I ordered the spicy miso soup, and it wasn't very good to me. I don't know exactly how to explain the taste, but I like the spicy miso at Shabuya much better. We have to order through a QR code, and the staff brings the food to your table. Sometimes the food came quickly, especially the vegetables, but sometimes we had to wait. After placing an order, we also had to wait five minutes before we could order again. The staff were nice when they helped us, so that was a good thing. However, the restaurant was very hot and stuffy. They had vents for the smoke, but the air was still really hot. Maybe the AC couldn't keep up. It was honestly too uncomfortable to sit and enjoy the meal(maybe if night time it might be cooler). If you have seen my other reviews, you know that I normally don't write reviews this negative. What started off as a great introduction went completely downhill…read more We were served by a female with facial piercings and tattoos (not that it matters however important to identify her). My friend and I ordered the 12 piece total 2-item combination. We both ordered 6 pcs of shrimp and 6 pcs of rib eye for the upgraded price. Our plate of protein only came out with 4 pcs of shrimp so we questioned the server why this was so. She tells us its actually weighed out to 4 ounces and not "pieces" which the menu clearly states. We asked her if this was a new rule because we had dined here literally the week prior. She proceeds to tell us "idk who served you but it's always been like this. I always tell our customers its weighed by ounces" (she did not inform us prior to ordering). We sat for a bit but felt we were being kind of cheated because of the discrepancy from last week's experience. We called her over again and literally told the server we were not trying to pick a fight and we just wanted to clarify due to the discrepancy from last week's meals. She stated "you probably got less rib eye and more shrimp, hence 6 pieces of shrimp." However this was not the case, because we know how to count and its 6 pieces of each item in the 12 PIECE COMBO. So, eventually we asked to speak to a manager. She left to get Kozen (?) her manager and when she came back with a male server(?) she told us "the managers too busy - but he'll allow it this one time but like I said its always been by ounces". From there on out, she proceeds to ignore us, starts coughing (pretty obnoxiously and grossly, might I add) and speaking loudly to those around us, cursing and being overall unprofessional. If you're going to say your food is served in ounces and not by pieces as your menu states, you best be telling ALL YOUR GUESTS before they order regardless if they're returning or new. We had lost our appetite, could not even finish our food and were just trying to rush out because the whole situation made us feel so uncomfortable. She made sure that we were ignored and put to the side and the male server who came down with her tried to mitigate by checking in on us, however we had already been put off by female server and her unprofessionalism. Due to this lack of professionalism and overall extremely uncomfortable and disappointing experience, we left 0% tip (which btw, is extremely rare for us). Overall, the food itself is still delicious as always, but we'll likely only patron when Roger and Cesar are working (because they at least, know how to count).

They also have a garden plate for vegetarians so just about anyone will be able to eat here. Don't sleep on their drink menu either- the cocktails here are both pretty and delicious. Service here is always amazing; all of the staff is friendly and has great energy :) Parking here can be rough being in DTSA but there is a paid structure nearby. The inside seems a little dark and is only bar seating. There are tables outside for larger groups. The owner of Kaizen also owns Sonder next door so check that place out if you like the food here!

This review pains me to write but I'll keep it as simple as I can: yes, inflation is up. Yes, we…read moreare collectively boned as a society. I can understand how business owners, managers, servers, and customers are all caught within the vicious fluctuations of markets and so on. However, what I was recently served at Kaizen Shabu last week was, to my mind, an egregious example of a restaurant offering well below the bare minimum of what should be expected for the prices listed (and my photos will show this, I believe). At the outset, I want to say I have no grievances with the servers. Our server was kind, attentive, and was elegantly multitasking. Bravo. Now, the food: we ordered the salmon "sashimi" plate, and what we were handed was a platter of the thinnest, grainiest, obviously-thawed and poorly sliced salmon I've ever eaten in my life. I was a bit shocked. At Cal Shabu Shabu (and other shabu places I tend to frequent more often), sashimi is... sashimi. It *looks* like sashimi because it IS sashimi: a piece of salmon purchased by the restaurant and knife-cut into appropriate portions depending on what portion size the customer has ordered. It is sashimi that gleans in the light, where the striations of fat and tissue are visible to the naked eye on the fish itself. As you can see from my photos, we were served paper-thin salmon that I could barely peel off of the plate with my chopsticks without ripping the fish into smaller, grainier pieces. It was all but inedible, in my opinion. This is not sashimi, and to serve such a thing for the price listed is beyond atrocious: it is an outright deception. Now, onto the side of veggies and noodles that come with every order of meat or fish. Perhaps the cooks could not be bothered, but what I received was broken tendrils of 2-inch udon haphazardly thrown into a bowl. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the chefs, with a dwindling supply of food nearer the end of the night, or if this restaurant truly does not care about the quality of what they are serving customers. Again, I think my pictures speak for themselves. I used to love coming here as the atmosphere was chic, and the servers are so kind. After my last dining experience, however, I cannot justify the price of my bill in the face of the quality of the food I am being served. I won't be returning, sadly. I hope the manager has an opportunity to look at these photos and perhaps reassess what can be done to improve what they are serving their customers.
