First time here and honestly, I think there's quite a bit of room for improvement. We came on a weekday and it wasn't even that busy, but the food didn't feel as fresh or as good as I expected based on the reviews. The appetizer bar was probably the first thing I noticed. Some of the food looked like it had been sitting out for a while--the pumpkin was already wrinkled--and the sauces just weren't hitting for me. Even the sauces felt a little off. For something like goma, I expect it to be thick and creamy, but this one was more clumpy than thick. The ponzu also had this savory aftertaste that I wasn't expecting. And I was honestly surprised to see fish sauce as one of the sauce options for hot pot/BBQ. Maybe that's just their own style, but overall the sauce selection and flavors didn't really work for me. We ordered different meats, and unfortunately they were way too oily for my taste. After grilling, you could literally see the oil coating the meat, so I wasn't really a fan. I also tried both the spicy seafood and miso broths. Sorry, but both were pretty bland and tasted a little strange to me. I've had miso broth at many other places and I've never had one that tasted quite like this. What bothered me the most was actually the setup. The ventilation machine gets in your way a lot, and the tables are so close together that there's barely enough space for the servers to squeeze through. While grilling, I also had oil splashing onto my hand a few times, which wasn't very comfortable. One thing I definitely want to give them credit for is the service. The servers were very nice, attentive, and paid attention to our table throughout the meal. I really appreciated that. Maybe the management, food, or overall experience has changed over time, but based on my visit, I personally didn't have the 4-star experience that the current rating led me to expect. There was just too much of a gap between the reviews and what I experienced. The prices are definitely affordable, though, especially for BBQ/hot pot. The restaurant is fairly big. There is a buffet section near the front of the restaurant. All the Korean side dishes are at the buffet. They had a fairly decent selection. They also had some hot items like egg rolls which were pretty good. They had radish paper at the buffet but it was oddly thick and crunchy. Only time I had radish paper that actually tasted like biting into a raw red radish. I did not like that for the shabu shabu they give you a prepared selection of veggies/soup toppings. They had the thick noodles which were not very good. I wish that they could have these items in the buffet so that you could grab what you want instead of getting this prepared tray. I also wish they had different noodle options. I did the beef broth and shrimp broth. The broths tasted watered down and were not very savory. The only upside was that the meat cuts were tasty. Was planning on going to another restaurant with my girlfriend for AYCE shabu-shabu and Korean barbecue but time got away from us and I didn't want to drive that far for dinner. My girlfriend suggested BWON as a closer option. So we invited my son to join us and headed to the restaurant. We were able to join the waiting list through yelp and only waited a few minutes once we arrived. Parking lot was full but we lucked into a spot after a couple of laps. Once seated our server offered us drinks and explained the menu. We opted for the AYCE B+ menu which includes both shabu-shabu and Korean barbecue. We received our first round and started cooking. The shabu-shabu pot was divided so we were able to get 2 soup bases which was great. We went with the house special shrimp and seafood and beef soup bases. For shabu-shabu we got the veggies cooking and then added beef, fish,and chicken. My girlfriend tended the shabu-shabu pot. I worked the Korean barbecue and started with ribeye, pork belly, and beef ribs. I turned and moved the meats around the cooking surface to cook them evenly and thoroughly. Serving items up as they were ready. Meanwhile my girlfriend was doing the same with the shabu-shabu pot. After 1 round of shabu-shabu and Korean barbecue my girlfriend and son were full. I ordered another order of pork belly for the barbecue and had the grill switched out for a clean one. Next time I think we'll go with one or the other for Korean barbecue or shabu-shabu. It's just too much to get AYCE of both. That being said the prices were reasonable at BWON so even though we didn't do multiple rounds, I feel like it was a good value nonetheless.
