I always have and always will love skinflints, I personally think they definitely got the criteria for top 5 places in Bayridge for best bar type food. A group of 6 of us came by on a Sunday night around 830 after being out for the day in Bayridge. We waited a little bit for a table and than got one. Out server was really nice and accommodating. She brought us waters and menus and didn't rush us to order. I got the French onion soup and split the French dip with a side of chili cheese fries with someone. I didn't eat the fries because I don't like that type of stuff, but everyone else said they were good. Everyone liked their meals. Randomly stumbled into this place on a Saturday evening after reading reviews on Yelp.. this place is spacious. The front is a bar and when u enter past the hostess it leads u to the back of the restaurant where there are seatings. Love the lightings and Christmas decorations. They serve a great selection of bread, crackers and breadsticks.. i couldnt stop eating it lol Ordered several things to try, french onion soup (lots of cheese, fresh bread dunked into the soup and not overly salty), rack of ribs (OMG must get!!!! Literally fall off the boneeeeee and so moist!!!! We really enjoyed it!!!), coconut shrimp which was sooo flavorful w great batter--crispy and tasty dipped in a nice sweet tangy sauce. And then also steak, alil bit underseasoned but was cooked nicely.. loved the ribs more! Service was great!!! Water was filled every time it went half or close to empty. Plenty of napkins and waitress checked on us frequently. Bathroom was the only down part, idk if someone had jus ruined it for the rest but it was filthy w a pile of napkins on the floor.. and only ONE bathroom.. thas the only place that i'd say needs improvement! Ribs were fall off the bone and portion for the appetizer felt more like an entree which is great value. The calamari was good as well as the coconut shrimp. The French onion soup the cheese was a little overpowering though. Atmosphere was comfortable but the waiter did take a bit to get us water at the beginning. Overall a good experience. read more

One of my wife's favorite places to go, so I decided to try. I figured it had to be something, it was so packed inside despite how big of a restaurant this truly is. Now my wife said that she and her friends love the bar food here, so we decided to start with the potato skins cheese and bacon. Now these were too good. Crisp on the outside, potato is soft and that bacon, it all tied together for an easy two bites. Entree wise, the steak au pouvire was nice, the flavors were colorful and defined. The only complaint, while the sauce was good, you really couldn't find the steak, lol. Now I had the steak special, it's hard to say anything about it because it was about $20 for a rib eye and potatoes. However, this was not very memorable. I will give this place another chance 100% and of course will update the review, but I will go for the more specialized items next time. read more

I guess I learn something new everyday. I was questioning what the heck kind of name this restaurant had (sounded nasty) but turns out, it's an actual word. By definition, a skinflint is "a person who spends as little money as possible". Maybe that explains the acceptance of a 10% tip on the bill. In a quest to find something new to try for lunch, I ended finding this place on Yelp. I've lived in Brooklyn for almost my whole life and I have never been to this establishment before. When I first walked in, the front of the restaurant was actually a bar and then restaurant seating was towards the back. It seemed like a pretty old fashion restaurant and it was pretty dark in terms of lighting. The lunch menu was short and concise, it was only 1 page with 2 sides to it. I ordered the chicken pot pie and a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato on rye bread. The chicken pot pie was excellent; the crust of it was extremely crispy and it was overall very delicious. The chicken in the sandwich was full of flavor and filled me up that I had to take 1/4th of the sandwich to go. The service was great and the environment seemed very friendly like the workers knew the regulars. I did notice a lot of senior/elderly customers during my lunch and noticed that they employ people that seemed to have a disability, which is great! read more

Skinflints is one of those bars that wants to seem upscale and classy but it's most definitely not. That's not a knock on them, just an observation. The front bar area looks like a normal neighborhood bar. It's always packed with locals and the age range skews older, 40+ with a smattering of mid 30s. The restaurant in the back looks like a completely different venue. Like the original owner wanted to make a neighborhood bar/ classy dining establishment. That being said, it's not "try-hard" and there's a certain cozy charm that it retains. The food itself is good. You start out with the complimentary breads and bread sticks and crackers (they give you a lot). Their bar food is standard fare, the wings and other appetizers are all good. My SO enjoys their specialty cocktails. This place really excels with their burgers. They have a bunch of different ones and so far, the ones I've tried have been all great. The meat has never been dried out and is always juicy. I've never tried their entrees but I don't really go to bars to get entrees anyway. Skinflints is a place I definitely go to once every two or three months. If I lived in Bay Ridge I'd probably go more often. It's nice for a low key date (maybe 4th or 5th date) or a regular date night with someone you've been with a while. One other really nice thing. Th sound from the bar doesn't really carry into the restaurant, so you can have a conversation without yelling. read more

I love the burgers at Skinflints! Always made to perfection. Today I ordered the provolone cheeseburger, medium rare, with a side of fries. My oldest little girl got a cheeseburger with American cheese, my littlest daughter got the chicken fingers, and my husband got the French Dip sandwich. All of us were so happy. No complaints. The burgers come on English muffin bread. It's always fresh and goes so great with the burger. Besides the great food, the casual vibe is perfect for a Saturday lunch. My girls especially like the vintage decor and the little outdoor eating area. Me too. I've been coming here since I lived in Bay Ridge years ago. The locals have always loved it. Now my NJ girls love it too. We make a special trip to Bay Ridge once a month for "the best burgers in Brooklyn." read more

Last night is the first time I went to skinflints after living in bay ridge my entire life! I have never herd one bad thing about Skinflints so I was very eager to try it. I went pretty late and they were super busy, waited for the table about 20 minutes. When we were seated our waitress was very friendly. I ordered the provolone burger with fries on the side...I also order mashed potatoes. The burger was very large,juicy and delicious!! It was on an English muffin which is something I was experiencing for the first time. I must say surprisingly it was great! The mashed potatoes were over exceeding my expectations, really really good. I'll definitely be returning! We come here for brunch all the way from Williamsburg, Bk (which is pretty much brunch haven so that tells ya something!) Their english muffins are delicious! I believe they put their burgers on them as well which just takes their burgers to a whole other level. Add an egg to really have your mind blown! And I like that they give you little assorted mini muffins because 1. theyre tasty and 2. I have no self control when it comes to muffins. Also, their french onion soup is TO DIE FOR. I dream about it. It is actually pretty terrible because, since I have tried theirs, every other place's version of it sucks. That alone is worth the trip here. If Josh is your bartender, you're in luck. His drinks are strong, his convos are good, and his service is on point. Your glass will never be empty (so just make sure you aren't the DD!) I've had mostly everything on their menu and in my opinion, everything is consistently good. This place has the best fried calamari. The fried calamari was crunchy on the outside and so soft on the inside. It didn't even need the marinara sauce it came with. The bbq ribs appetizer was more like an entree. Portions for this dish were huge and it came with a side of fries. Best I can muster up is 3 stars Onion soup was merely onions boiled in a broth with a "too chewy" cheese melted on top. Good onion soup is sautéd or cooked onions stewed into the broth. This was uncooked slivers of onion. Not too good. The hamberger was kind of tasteless. Nice size and cooked properly (medium rare) but none the less tasteless. French fries were good. Not great, but good. Service was very good. Next time I will try the chicken pot pie and if that doesn't get this to 4 stars, I'll move on. Cheesy, lots of onion, not to salty, and just the right amount of bread. Our entrees arrived right after they took our soup away. My ribs were so good! They were very generous with the portions. I got 2 racks of ribs. They were fall off the bone! The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Best I've had in a very long time. My boyfriend's French dip sandwich came with a pickle, slaw, and fries. The garlicky bread they used added extra flavor to the sandwich. The dip was rich in flavor and light at the same time. First, let me start off by saying that I've been coming here for 30 years. I do like the place. Basic food, neighborhood ambience. Nice staff. Now, the issue that prompts me to rate it 3 stars. I ordered a Cobb salad. I've ordered this many times before. I say this so that you know that I know what constitutes a Cobb salad. The waiter presented me with a house salad with chicken strips on top. I politely told the waiter that this was not a Cobb salad. He insisted that it was. I told him that a Cobb salad has bacon, hard boiled eggs and blue cheese. This salad had lettuce, tomato, olives and chicken. Again, he insisted that the salad was correct. He said "that's how they make it". He offered to bring me a side order of bacon and hard boiled eggs. I said no, refused to eat the salad and instead ordered a hamburger. Instead of French fries, I asked for a side salad. Guess what I got? The same salad minus the chicken. Then, most of the lights went out, in what I assume was mood lighting. Now, I've been in restaurants where the lights are dimmed, but this was ridiculous. We couldn't see the food. We asked that the lights be turned on, or at least "lightened". We were told no. The manager wanted it that way. We asked to see the manager. We never saw the manager. Lastly, the other entree ordered was fried shrimp. Biggest shrimp I've ever seen, but the batter was so thick and oily that it was not good. All in all, not a good food experience. read more
