I purchased a gift certificate here for $200, and I was treated very rudely. I get it, they are going for the eagleton rich snobby place, whatever that's their thing. But if I'm going to give y'all $200 I would expect to be treated like $200 dollars. I walked in let it be known that I was there to purchase a gift certificate, the bartender was busy. I get it I worked industry for a while. But I would never whistle at a patron to get their attention, morevoer follow it up with "Hurry it up, I'm busy". Dude I was looking at my phone because you had been ignoring me for at least 8 minutes, while making drinks and seating people who came in after me. Then the presentation of the gift card. The dude gave me a receipt off the printer, then asked if I wanted it done "fancy pants", fuck yeah I do, it's $200. The amount they charge for drinks and food you'd think they'd have better standards. I have eaten here before and was unimpressed by the joint, not enough to write a review but this put me over the edge. If you're looking for a place that's bougey as fuck and proud of it, by all means dive right in. If it weren't for the high prices, I'd give it more stars. - Drinks were on the high end at ~$12. - There weren't very many food options for folks in the party who might be a little more budget-minded, but just happened to get invited to dinner by their friends who aren't as much. I think it would be nice to have a couple dishes in the small and medium sections of the menu at or under $10, and in the large section, a pasta or something under $20. - If you do find yourself in this situation, try one of the flatbreads, which are basically thin-crust pizzas and somewhat filling. The duck confit and margherita/proscuitto were delicious, particularly the former. The kale and apple salad was also quite tasty. I felt like a better person after eating it. ;-) - Parking in that part of town is terrible; So if you drive, plan on circling the neighborhood a few times. Anyway, I've been to my share of amazing yet pricey restaurants in Seattle, and I understand the reality of living here. However, relative to other restaurants in this genre, I felt a little bit of sticker shock. It's located on the quieter side of cap hill, right next to toppot donuts. We made a reservation and went on V'day. We still had to wait a little bit for our table which took about 10-15 min (not cool). The ambience is super cool and had a great vibe. The staff very friendly and respectful. We were eventually seated and presented with v'day special prix fixe menu. Thankfully it consisted of some really good dishes. we had lobster orzotto (risotto with orzo), arctic char and mac and cheese with lamb. Loved every course. Super delicious. Their drinks are quite noteworthy. Osiris is extremely refreshing and yumm! Would highly recommend all the house cocktails. We were not super impressed with the dessert - don't exactly remember what it was and that's probably because it did not stand out. Been passing by this new restaurant in our neighborhood so we decided to give it a try. Walked in and luckily there were two seats available at the bar. It was a rainy Saturday night but that didn't stop people from coming. I saw the staff telling people about the wait. Our bartender/server was really friendly. He have us suggestions on drinks which turned out to be pretty good. I had the black rice & black mussels. It had some crispy pork, which reminded me of a Filipino dish called lechon kawali, mussels, and uni. I really the the crispy pork, the texture was a great contrast to the black rice, the mussels were okay and uni...well I'm biased to it cause I'm an uni lover. Though my bf said he could also do without the uni. My bf had the porkchop which was awesome! The veggies and the juicy porkchop really worked well together. The ambience is pretty romantic, and intimate, great for a date or a small group dinner. Overall, I'd go back and try out some of the other items on the menu. Maybe the seabass :) read more

This place is a gem! Over the past few years I've visited Single Shot several times for dinner and have always had a stellar experience. Their talents are aplenty from flavorful plates anchored by seasonal ingredients, showstopper cocktails, curated wine selection, to desserts that even the fullest guest makes room for. This past Sunday was my first time in for brunch and I was delighted. My girlfriends and I shared the blueberry lemon curd pancake topped with a medley of fruits to start and we then each had our own eggs Benedict. Stellar, especially when paired with their brut rosé. I've always found the staff at Single Shot to be knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and genuinely happy to be there and these attributes combined with their standout menu and inviting ambience makes for a truly lovely experience. What a lovely little space. We came for dinner last night with another couple. Having never heard of this place, we were excited to try it after seeing the pictures on Yelp! The aesthetic is clean, white and beige walls, while pretty minimalist the atmosphere was chill sophistication. Cocktails were on point. I don't remember the names of the two I did have but one was a really bright and light tasting tequila drink that came in a flute and the other was similar to a Manhattan. I love the glassware, very Gatsby-esque and now I want to go to every estate sale to find glassware like that. We started with the foie gras (I know, inhumane). I've never had it before so there's nothing to compare it to. It was really well executed but I don't think I'll order it again. The entree is where it's at. Spaghetti squash with pork chop and shaved Brussels Sprouts. Easily the best pork chop I've ever had. It was so flavorful and delicious. It's a generous serving without leaving you in food coma. While we didn't order dessert it looked like they had a wide enough variety to satisfy most dietary preferences. Service was great, as many have said, always available but never hovering. What a great experience. We want to uber back here and try more than 2 cocktails! read more

You get a good rotation of seasonal dishes all are prepared with much attention and TLC. Single Shot is a small establishment in a quaint area of north Cap Hill (hint: make reservations and don't bring a crowd). A small block jam packed with local gems. A place one could easily frequent, if living nearby, with warm, upscale yet not stuffy ambiance. Service was 5 stars without a doubt. Patient and attentive without being intrusive. We chose to sample all small offerings and most of the main courses. Each dish was a harmony of seasonal flavors and textures prepared with the quality of a 5-star establishment! Some standouts included: - Sunchoke & Emmer Risotto. Emmer is a fancy word for farro, which is a dense nutty grain prepared with lumps of crab, bites of crispy pancetta and a creamy decadent sauce. Delish! - Arctic Char. Perfectly crispy skin and a tender pink flesh. So good. - NY Steak. Great cut with proper medium rare preparation and a barely there touch of truffle (the only way to add truffle anything to a dish). Dinner was topped off with a sampling of desserts...another wow for our palates. Panna Cotta was pure silk on your tongue. Fun, boozy Bailey's Ice Cream and comforting butternut squash cake with smooth creamy frosting balanced with a cup of perfectly brewed coffee. I'm a fan indeed! On a Wednesday evening, I happened to arrive, and there were only 3 other patrons at the restaurant. The hostess offered me the most coveted seat in the house, the table by the window. She claimed the people-watching from the table made it the most sought-after table in the house. I took her recommendation, but I personally think that if the food is good and the company is entertaining, then why the need for people-watching? Any seat and even standing room in this beautifully decorated restaurant will do. The menu had changed that fateful Wednesday evening the Cubs won the World Series, and my dining partner and I were able to try the house lamb tartare, which came with bread (unlike the croutons mentioned in other reviews) and the duck pizza. Duck pizza? Why yes. Roasted duck, hoisin sauce, and charred pineapple make this a cross between Canadian Bacon/Hawaiian pizza and Peking duck at a Chinese restaurant. Overall, this was my favorite of the medium plates. From service to ambiance, I recommend Single Shot. Places like Single Shot are taken for a granted in cities like SF and Chicago, but in Seattle, off the beaten path in CH, its a gem. Seattle has definitely "arrived." read more

This seems to be a loved Capitol Hill neighborhood spot, but for our group of 5, it was like a Toyota Prius, perfectly designed, but just can not get out of its way, or please enough people at one time. I am not a foodie, nor am I a hipster, and Single Shot really is a foodie, hipster kinda little bistro. The menu is so limited that it is kinda tough to assemble meals for a group of 5 where everyone is happy. We shared a lamb tartar, it was ok, with a too coarse texture, a flatbread which was good. We had a couple of pork chops, which were good, but not Berkshire pork good. I had a strip steak which I think is the winner on the menu. Missy had the tuna steak, which I think she got bored with, and the dandelion greens which it comes on, are super bitter. Someone else ordered the risotto, and I am not thinking that was the strongest item on the menu. So, if you are an out of towner looking for a taste of Seattle, I would leave Single Shot to the locals who appreciate it for its uniqueness and locality. Single Shot is also not a $$ place, it is a solid $$$, you can drop some coin here to get out satisfied. read more

An incredibly disappointing dining experience. Our gracious, attentive, good-humored server was the lone positive during the dinner I shared here with several friends I was visiting from out of town. Notably, not one person of the six in our party remarked that they were enjoying their meal. The $28 chicken entree was not only underwhelming but also undercooked. The $34 halibut entree turned out to be a very small piece of fish that was overwhelmed, flavor-wise, by the sauce it was in. My friend left most of her $28 pork chop untouched. The dessert trio we all split was fine, but for the price, it was tiny and unremarkable. This dinner happened on a Sunday night, and with the exception of our waiter, the staff seemed irritated that we didn't finish up until after a little after 10 p.m. (Note that the posted hours are simply listed as "5:00 p.m. til late.") I still can't wrap my mind around how much money was spent on that meal for us to go home so let down and still hungry (and, in one case, feeling ill after the chicken). This dinner was meant to be the dining highlight at the end of a week-long vacation to Washington. I wish we'd gone elsewhere. read more

Tried this restaurant for our first time last Saturday. We loved it! Very dark inside, cozy, beautiful bar... Not too loud either which was great so our party of four could actually talk and hear one another. Cocktails were awesome, among some of the best I've had in Seattle! Wine list is pretty short, and our Bordeaux was very nice, so although it's short they must have chosen their selection wisely. Food was delicious and nicely prepared. Our waiter was attentive but almost invisible which is what we expect when we have great service at a nice restaurant. We are really looking forward to returning. It's like a Kentucky mule. Castro --Rum, Lime, Allspice Dram and Laphroaig! Scotch and rum mix!! I'm not a scotch drinker but I liked this. Damascus - another one with scotch! Scotch, India Sherry, Cocchi Americano and Orange Bitters! They also have a food menu that looks enticing. The food will surprise you! It is tastier than you imagined. Lobster mushroom with veal sweetbread - I spot Sichuan peppercorn. And I liked it! Pizza Margherita -pretty good. Black rice and black mussels- one word: Uni! Translation? Must try!!!! Cute little space on the west/I5 side of Capitol Hill with a great vibe, some really excellent small plates and liquor selection. I definitely recommend the rotating cheese plate to start, and this last time enjoyed the clams. The specialty drink cocktails are cute, but I stick to my usual gin & tonic (nice selection of gin, though). Mid-course the flatbread pizzas (last time was nettles & other veggies) are great. And for dinner you definitely can't go wrong if there is lamb or ribeye on the menu. Properly cooked, portions not too large, vegetable accompaniments that make sense. I've also found the service to be great - attentive & never totally disappears, but doesn't hover either. Single shot isn't large, but it's also not so tiny you're crammed in next to people you don't know. Just enough room that you can eat your dinner without bumping into people, but not so cavernous it loses that charm and small-space feel. I've been here twice for dinner now - my advice is definitely make a reservation. Between drinks, appetizers, conversation and dessert you can easily be here for a few hours. A small place with a mighty fine ambience and some delicious drinks to boot. An upscale diner feel, if you will. We had a couple pizzas - Summertime pizza (bacon, tomatoes, squash and more). Light, and tasty - but only the slices which had the bacon on it. And they were not generous with the meat. The margherita pizza lacked the flavor of the Summertime pizza, but still good. It doesn't seem like you can go wrong with any of the drinks here! I sipped on quite a few of my friends at the table (with or without their permission) and they were all delicioso. My friend and I stopped in after reading an article about it in Dwell Magazine. Admittedly, you are more likely to find me in a low brow hangout like Loretta's Northwesterner or Targy's Tavern but I really wanted to check this place out. So I pulled my shirt with sleeves out of the closet and made the treck up to Cap Hill. I was not disappointed! After bellying up to the bar my buddy and I immediately realized that despite the high end decor, this place is a great little local neighborhood bar. I may be a little rough around the edges and I mostly drink my whiskey straight but I also know my way around a good Manhattan and I'm here to tell you this... the bartenders at Single Shot know how to mix one hell of a drink. The fact that bartending legend, Murray Stenson, was quietly sipping on a cocktail a couple seats down from me also says a lot about the quality of the cocktails here. We split the margarita pizza to start with and it was wicked flavorful. Definitely not a huge portion but a great snack to share with another person. We talked briefly with the owner who was really friendly and he recommended the Pork Chops. They were excellent! My equally blue collar Bostonian Bro Date went bonkers over the spaghetti squash. He later proclaimed that there was no way that spaghetti squash can actually be a vegetable... Because he hates vegetables and all he could think about the next day was going back and getting a giant plate of "that weird spaghetti thing." All in all it was a great experience and even well worth the hour it takes to find parking on the hill. read more

A festival of succulence! How do you do that with a pork chop? I'm referring to the nearly one-inch thickness cooked to juicy perfection on the inside/amazeballs seared crust kissed by angels on the outside. Other highlights included lobster-veal sweetbreads in a vanilla-scented parsnip puree. What? Plates were licked. Not quite, but it's almost doable in the cozily lit dining room. I didn't try the cocktails, but they looked legit and the bearded bartender seemed to be getting shit done sans arm garters, so that was refreshing. No pretense here!
