Brimmer & Heeltap is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. I've been here a handful of times (for brunch and dinner) and there are some items on the menu that I think about all the time. And every time, there is a dish that blows me away. Recently, I tried the duck with grilled apricot and the crispy potatoes and both were chef's kiss. The menu also changes seasonally which is fun to keep coming back for all seasons. The courtyard/garden is dog friendly which is a plus for all the dog parents out there! This restaurant is lovely...on the higher end without being pretentious and uppity.

Absolutely phenomenal all around meal. The Pate was a heaping serving and I can't say I've had one quite like it. I'd be very curious to know what seasonings are involved. The Fritto Misto slapped. Ballard continues to dominate the Seattle food scene. I almost forgot to talk about the Tiramisu. Absolutely out of this world. Socks = knocked.

The 5% surcharge is a scam -- this should be included in already pricey dishes. Food was average, cocktails were forgettable.

This is such a special place when the weather is nice and you get to dine in the garden. I was visiting Seattle and traveling with my dog so this was a great option to have a nice dinner and having my dog tag along. All the food is plated like a high-end restaurant but the service and environment is more cozy and friendly than stuffy. They also have an oysters happy hour, which is always nice considering how expensive fresh oysters are in Washington (but so tasty when they come from the Puget Sound). Some of the dishes just was a bit off, which is why the 4 stars. For example, the bibb salad with fennel and almonds looked nicely composed but it was overdressed. The tiramisu for dessert also was OK, just not necessarily big on flavor. Still, the fresh oysters were a great start to dinner, and the pasta dish of mushroom agnolotti had a nice mix of texture. Prices are on the high end but I feel that's how it is throughout Seattle.

I read of Brimmer & Heeltap several times in Seattle Met's top 100 restaurants in the Seattle area. I finally made the effort to go, which is hidden in the Ballard suburbs away from the main stretch. Parking is street only, so plan ahead to circle around and around a bit. The restaurant is a dimly lit with a rustic-dine-at-home vibe. Get out your phone to read the menu. LOL. Our server is expedient; our water was refilled in a timely manner. Their food is new American. They are currently serving dinner only. The prices are on the higher side, but I knew it going it, so it wasn't surprising. The Food: Beef Shank, $38 - 5 Stars Menu: glazed carrot, cippolini onion, mushroom, pastry crust This dish is melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. That beef is genuinely that good. It looks beautiful, too. Halibut, $38 - 5 Stars Menu: eggplant, red pepper, charred onion, smoked jalapeno It is super easy to overcook a halibut. They did not! It was impeccably flaky. It tasted amazing in the sauce. The eggplant is cooked just right in a complimentary flavorful sauce that I can't place the exact flavors. Whatever it is, it's delicious. Duck Breast, $38 - 3 Stars Menu: cranberry, roasted parsnip, cippolini onion, arugula The duck breast arrived undercooked. It was such a rookie mistake that it is disappointing. As soon as I waved a server over and mentioned it, she immediately agreed with my assessment and took it away to recook. After that, the dish is very good. My included photo is the undercooked version.

Amazing food and amazing service! I still get hungry thinking about the food I had a Brimmer & Heeltap. They're also well known for their drinks so definitely try some of their cocktails. The waitress was knowledgeable and gave good suggestions for what to order. Everything was amazing, especially the Butternut Squash Soup and Braided Cabbage (must try's!) and the bread is also so tasty and buttery. It's a great app to get to soak up the remaining sauces left from the dishes. I would skip out on the Onion veggie dip next time as it wasn't anything too special compared to the other menu items. The price point is reasonable but it isn't cheap or a bang-for-your-buck restaurant by any means. Would go again!

A beautiful space, with an especially nice back garden area. The service was excellent as well. I got disappointed by the salmon because I didn't realize it was served medium rare. I guess that's an upscale thing, but it wasn't for me. I was able to get it sorted with no issues which was really appreciated. Also note that this is a "service charge" restaurant. Despite that, I'd like to come back and try another dinner some time.

Brimmer and Heeltap was such a pleasure to visit! I came here with a reservation for 3 at 7pm on a Saturday. I was able to share all my dishes so I tried a lot! I had the tagliatelle, the cauliflower, the tomato salad, the bread, and the baby gem salad. I would say my favorite was the tagliatelle, because I'm a sucker for pasta. But everything was delicious so it was a very close competition! The bread was my favorite appetizer, as it was crispy on the outside but oozing with butter on the inside. It was great to use to soak up the sauces from the other dishes. Definitely recommend getting it. The tomato salad and baby gem salads were so fresh and light - the perfect salads for summer. Service was great and our waitress was so kind and helpful. Looking forward to coming back!

I swallowing my food after to write this review because I'm just getting hit with incredible taste after taste. I'm thankful for this menu for this restaurant for the chef. They're doing great work definitely will be back again and again and again. The service is amazing. Everybody is so nice. The ambience is cool. They hit the spot. Do yourself a favor and get your ass over here.

Highly enjoyed the experience and food at Brimmer & Heeltap yesterday. We had the burrata with chorizo, clams, the marinated beets, rye agnolotti with ricotta and butternut squash, and the cavatelli lamb ragu. The butternut squash agnolotti and the lamb ragu cavatelli were absolutely mouth-watering - highly recommend! Everything else was great as well, but the pasta was the star of the show. The staff even wrote a card for our friend who was celebrating her birthday. If you're looking for great service, good food, and good ambiance this is the place.

We decided to celebrate our 27th anniversary at Brimmer & Heeltap and WOW... our expectations were far exceeded. We had an amazing time. The food was VERY GOOD, the service was THE BEST and the ambiance was so cozy and warm. We got the Burrata & Squash Dip, Crispy Potatoes, Baby Beets, Hanger Steak and the Sumac Duck Breast. We loved it all and would order it again in a heartbeat. Our only regret was not trying the bread which we were told was insane - just didn't want to fill up on bread but we should have just gone for it. Our server was genuinely lovely, spent lots of time making sure we were having a great time and ended the evening giving us the sweetest card signed BY THE ENTIRE STAFF. I mean COME ON! This is a very special place. Will be going back soon :) (and for anyone wining about the surcharge - we knew about, it wasn't a surprise and we 110% agree with it!!! Seattle ain't an easy place to have a restaurant and we were very happy to support such a wonderful establishment).

Everything about this place is great except parking, because there is none. Otherwise, everything I ordered-from the cocktail, fabulous bread, warm olives, cod and dessert smores-was delectable. I can't say that about very many places.

Ok, first and foremost, I was looking for a great heated patio. I'm still not comfortable eating inside, and boy did this spot do me right! Great setup. Whichever local listing I found Brimmer & Heeltap on was right on the money. The heaters are rippin and the atmosphere doesn't suffer for any of the adjustments they've made to stay safe/seasonably workable. Great staff. They were all in good spirits and added a lot to the evening. We shared a bottle of wine. Ok, their wine som was an absolute delight. She's great. Would hang out with her in the cellar for an extended period of time, drinking. The food was amazing. Usually I snag photos, but it was gone too soon. We had to get the bread and enjoyed the hell out of it. Big toasty slab that was almost more like cake than bread. Perfection to start us off. That came out alongside the scallop carpacio which was also amazing. Everything you'd want in that dish. Fresh, zippy and tangy. We both got the cod, and it was melt in your mouth good, with the richest mashed potatoes and some simple blackened brussels. And for dessert, we had the chocolate panna cota, which was the only thing that felt a little... not so thought out. It was covered in whipped cream ...which was good, but kinda seemed like a coverup? It was great, either way, looks aside. Will be back when I'm looking to be a little spendy :)

Ask the Community - Brimmer & Heeltap

    Do they have parking lot?

No parking lot but street parking is fairly easy within a block.

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

Yes! They welcome dogs on their patio, both in the partially covered place (by the coffee shop) and the open gravel area. They even have dog treats at the hostess stand. We brought our pup and all the servers were very friendly with her.

Is Brimmer and Heeltap a 21 and over establishment?

I have taken my kids to brunch here (aged 9-14) and it was a great experience. I personally wouldn't recommend young kids for dinner. Go to Giddyup burger or Veraci pizza (across the street) instead and come back to Brimmer and Heeltap for a date…

We arrived right at the opening time and there was a line, but it moved pretty quickly and we got our food in about 30 min. As for the food quality, these were some of the best steaks I've had in Seattle at this price point. $15 for 4 oz steak frites is a great deal, and they really load you up on the fries so you get full even with just a 4 oz steak. The steak is cooked perfectly edge to edge pink since it's sous vide. They get a nice sear on the outside so you still develop a good crust and deep flavor. It's super tender and I love the fat cap adding a beefier richness. The best sauce by far was the Sichuan Au Poivre. It was creamy, rich, and had a light citrusy peppercorn flavor. The highlight was this sauce with the fries. The sauce soaking into the beefy tallowy frites was amazing. My only complaint is I wish it had a stronger peppercorn flavor. I also liked the duck breast with the au Poivre sauce (maybe even more than the steak).

My friend and I came here midday on a Saturday, hoping to try out the Steakeasy popup. I was…read morehonestly a bit nervous beforehand, as I'd read quite a few reviews that had cited long lines, really long wait times for food, and people's orders getting lost. I can't fault a place for having lines (if you're popular, you're popular) but I was worried that we'd be dealing with both long lines and long wait times for food given that it was a weekend. I even packed a snack just in case, since I can get pretty hangry. Thankfully, the whole process was actually really smooth! My guess is that the expansion of Steakeasy's hours to include both lunch and dinner instead of just lunch has taken the pressure off the lunch service. We only waited in line for about two minutes before ordering, which was super easy given the limited menu. We were given little number signs to bring to our seats and found seats relatively easy. Now I wouldn't come here with a huge group, as most of the tables here are on the smaller side (2-4 tops) but the two of us sat down at the bar and soon after we sat down a couple tables became available. While waiting for our food, I took full advantage of the Stumbletown bar and first got a Blackberry Gin-ger and then a Purple Rain. Can you tell I like gin? I loved the cocktails and they're super quick. Food came out pretty quickly, and we were digging in about 10-15 minutes after we ordered. I got an 8 oz steak frites with chimichurri, and my lunch buddy got a 4 oz steak frites with the Sichuan au poivre. We both got our sauces on the side, which they were happy to accommodate, so that we could dunk the steak and keep our fries crispy. The steak here seems to be generally cooked to medium doneness. My ideal is a medium rare but I can rock with a medium if needed. The cut is a lean one, so this is more of a meaty one where you'll need to use your teeth than a melt in your mouth type of situation. The sauces are great, and I think the meal really benefits from the green freshness of the chimichurri. While the Sichuan au poivre seems popular (and I definitely dunked my fries in my friend's au poivre sauce) there isn't actually much Sichuan peppercorn flavor. The fries were pretty solid and plentiful. Due to having our sauce on the side, most of our fries stayed crispy until we ate them. The steak frites here are a really good value, with a 4 oz steak frites going for $15 and an 8 oz steak frites going for $25. Is this the best steak ever? No, but it definitely scratches that itch and is a good time. Worth trying!

We ordered munchies and drinks while we waited for our table at Delancey. The bartender / server knew we would be headed to Delancey in 40 minutes or so, and handled things well accordingly. We got a plate of olives (tasty, great finger food) and drinks. The Yonder cider was good, not too sweet. The Martini was tasty. I had two quibbles: The first was with the pricing: the martini was charged as two separate items: 1) gin (I suppose the charge varies by the kind of gin or vodka in your martini) 2) martini (which is apparently the non-vodka or or non-gin part of your drink) While I'm sure this makes it easier to track for the bartender and inventory, as well as for charging, as a customer, it's a little odd to have a mixed drink be a two-part charge. The second was the included 20% automatic gratuity. I don't object to the concept of a standard service charge, I just wish it had been more prominently displayed so that I wouldn't have added a 20% tip on top of that (and my tip was on the amount that included tax, service charge and drinks / food). So, buyer beware ... the service is good, the ambiance is nice, the food and drinks are good -- but the payment / billing is non-standard, and can cause unexpected surprises.

Our server said they "ran out". How does that happen? I stalked a departing table to take their rechargeable lamp. Anyway, my expectations were likely too high going in, and I was annoyed before even ordering, turning on our cellphone light to read the menu. The food is pretty good, though not mind-blowing good like the reviews suggest, and we had one bad dish. They offer varied Khmer dishes beyond noodle varieties, which is a plus. Go if you are looking for variety, skip the fish, bring ear plugs, and hope you have a brighter table than ours. They paired surprisingly well and a unique dish to try. kroeung kumeraage, $15 - 4 Stars This dish has an option of fried chicken or fried mushrooms. We chose the chicken since we already had mushrooms. Kroeung is the Khmer seasoning. Our server said this dish and papaya salad are amongst the most popular. Since we have a veggie dish, we chose this over the papaya salad (which looks great, too). The chicken is lightly fried, not crispy outside, super tender, and paired well with the kroeung aioli. trei chmouy tuk tei omperi, $40 - 1 Star The menu says serves 2 but not really. The menu doesn't say so; the server didn't mention it. Luckily, by this time of the meal, we have acquired the little table lamp, which enabled me to see the long fish bones that had not been removed. FIVE of them. The noodles are a pathetic overcooked limp pile. The best part is the turmeric sauce. Do not order this dish. Epilogue: I happened to walk by Sophon this past weekend. I was surprised to see a sign saying they are temporarily closed to resolve internal issues. (See photo) That is never a good reflection of management. Seemed perfect - cocktails, easily accessible, with tasty looking drinks and snacks. When we arrived at 5:30p on a weekend evening , it wasn't that busy, particularly closer to the bar, so we sat at a table with no people close by. In contrast, there were two groups talking in conversationally norm tones closer the entrance and window. After about 20 Min, a server who didn't originally serve us (apparently the owner) told us it was "quiet reading time" and just repeated the phrase in an annoyed, condescending tone when we tried to ask for clarification regarding what that meant (she seemed to intentionally ignore us despite by friend trying to flag her down 4 times ) . We subsequently asked our original server if our modified whisper level was acceptable. She said "yes" And actually kindly asked us about our hobby. However, the purported owner returned 10 min later , targeting just us (not the people up front who were talking louder than us at this point) , saying we were not complying and needed to close our bill (our drinks were not half-finished at that point). We asked if there was anywhere she could recommend for an alternative to converse quietly, and she bluntly and aggressively stated, "Anywhere but here" to by friend's reasonable question. The onwr then charged me double the cost of my 14 dollar drink ($31) , making not effort to reimburse me and stating that it was my fault for not catching this?!? Huh?!? The owner then proceeded made several concerning, microaggressive, racially concerning statements that left myself and my fellow attendee shocked and sick to our stomachs. I was blown away. I actually recorded part of this on video, but won't post it here unless someone wants a clarification. Next, the owner rapidly escorted us out, though my friend was not asked to pay for his drink. She told Me to "Get out!!!" , and mumbled something that I can't mention, as I am not sure I could believe what I heard. I have lived in Seattle for 24 years and have never been treated as such condescending and insolent manner, let alone by the owner of an establishment that frankly I was excited to check out prior to this debacle. I was looking for a place to gather quietly but apparently they expect you to drink in silence , which was never clarified to me. On top of this, the one person that we could tell was reading, didn't seem bothered when we checked in with her. On top of this, the one person that we could tell was reading, didn't seem bothered when we checked in with her. An older group and separate younger were allowed to carry on despite speaking louder than us (still conversationally , but definitely not whispering as we had been trying to do). Neither of these groups were individuals of color- which I bring up, due to the differential treatment we received despite all of us speaking or whispering in similar tones, and due to the words told to me that I'm having a hard time believing I heard - let's just say I felt "profiled" ... if you know what I mean. In summary , DO NOT come here if you value basic human dignity, kindness, or frankly, sanity. I do not write such negative reviews lightly- Feel free to check my other reviews, which generally are favorable to other restaurants and businesses , as I love to support small, privately owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Further, I've been YELP ELITE in years past , so it's not as if I'm not familiar with how to expect to behave and be treated in this community. Mostly I am truly sorry I ever set foot in such a scary, and hateful space.
