My husband and I were walking down the street and Ocho caught our eye. We just missed happy hour, but still wanted to give it a try since there were lots of vegetarian options for my husband. It was an hour wait, but we were on vacation anyways so we didn't mind. We sat outside at an empty table. The waitress brought us water and menus and we ordered a bottle of Casal Garcia Vinho Verde from Portugal while we waited. A table opened up faster than anticipated and moving inside was easy. The waitress was friendly and so helpful with recommendations. Service was great - fast and attentive. We ordered Banderilla de Boqueron (for me), Setas de Jerez, Croquetas Borrachas, Tortilla Espanola, Dumplings, Queso Halloumi. All were really tasty! The Croquetas Borrachas are a must if you go! Ocho was such a nice experience. Yummy food, and an intimate atmosphere. Perfect for date night. I liked the wine so much I picked up a second bottle after dinner from the Safeway down the street. Ocho has a cool atmosphere and is a nice place for a drink and a small bite. Their food is tapas-style shareables. We tried the Brócoli and the Dumplings, which were both pretty good. Someone at the table also got the Gambas al Ajillo, which they said was delicious. I tried a bomb pop drink and it was pretty good. Only knocking down a star because the cocktail prices were a bit steep, and they only had one server attending the entire restaurant. I felt for her, but it made the experience a bit slow. read more

First of all, shout out to my guy Nate who was a tremendous server. Not only does he have a strong name, but he helped a brother out who had a fly in his beer. Good guy. We had an idea of all of the dishes that we wanted to try, but he was the shepherd that steered us towards the star of the show - the halloumi. The crispy cheese is a fantastic bite on its own, but the salad and peppers that accompany it add such a perfect balance to this plate. It's almost like eating a mozzarella stick, but just with better cheese. Let me tell you about the shrimp though. These lil puppies are bathing in a garlic butter sauce that is begging to be sipped on like a fine wine. The bread is an ideal vessel for soaking up that sauce and creating an open faced shrimpy sando. During our journey through these tapas, we discovered that the best part of the experience is trying to get a piece of everything from multiple plates to create the perfect bite. Since all of them are so well-balanced, you can mix and match whatever you want to make your wildest dreams come true. This made the dinner infinitely more fun than your average night out. My husband and I went to Ocho right at opening on a Saturday. We had the place almost completely to ourselves during our time there, and undeservedly so! The brunch offerings were delicious and had perfect portion size. I had the huevos estrellados con jamon, and my husband had the steak and eggs. The salsa verde with the steak and eggs was particularly spectacular. Our server was prompt and attentive, and played some upbeat Spanish music to set the vibe on a rainy Seattle day. A go to spot in my neighborhood. Service can sometimes be hit and miss but this night it was great. Got there before my friends when it was less busy around 4 on a Tuesday. Didn't feel like anything alcoholic and asked the bartender if there was anything nonalcoholic and she whipped this amazing mocktail delicious and up and she handled the crowd quite well. She also had to deal with a situation and handled it professionally. Friends finally arrived and my other friend had a mocktail as well thought it was going to be the same but the bartender whipped something different! We felt special coming here because of how our waiter treated us. We didn't have any unique or demanding requests, but still really appreciated how thoughtful and knowledgable our waiter was. Loved everything we had, of course, and discussed notes on each dish so as to try and improve how we make home-cooked versions :) I was made a special cocktail that was absolutely perfect. I came here with my date on a Saturday night and despite it being seven pm they were able to seat us immediately at a table for two. The server was friendly and patient with us while I read through the entire menu since it was my first time. My date and I decided to order tapas to share and I loved the unique menu items and bold flavours they had to offer, it was difficult to narrow down our picks. As a seafood lover I settled on the Gambas al Ajillo which was incredibly flavourful. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the bread. My favourite dish from my date's picks was the Baguette de Ajo. What can I say? I'm a bread lover and all the breads we were served had perfectly crunchy crusts and were drool-worthy on the inside. My date also ordered the La Carolinas which he really enjoyed but I personally am not a huge fan of blue cheese or dates so you can guess what I thought of a dish containing mainly both those ingredients. This restaurant had such good vibes it was easy for my date and I to spend hours chatting over our dinner. Our server was so attentive the whole night and made sure we had everything we needed. Went for happy hour after seeing it on a few recommended lists. Bartender did her best tending to many patrons by herself. Please hire more staff. (Most) food was good but overpriced. Think nearly $7 for small toast smaller than your palm. Drinks are OK. Patatas bravas was definitely the worst item and worst version we've had. Needs more sauce and more frying. Very disappointed in that. Olives were solid. Spent about $60 for a few items which is sadly how it is around here. Can't imagine what it would've been if it was off the main menu. Also there's a credit card fee??? Crazy to see that in a major city. Never a fan when businesses tack on extra fees to the customer and expect us to tip generously. Had a wonderful time getting dinner at Ocho. The atmosphere and bar service were top notch. This is one of those places that has been around for awhile, and for good reason. I just loved the character of the place! My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the bartender. He was so friendly and even made us a special flight of vermouths and cheeses simply because we were asking him a lot of questions about vermouths and he could tell we were interested. Mind blown good tapas - Better than a lot of places in Spain. We thought we'd give the tapas a try before committing to brunch and we were just so impressed with this place. We ordered fried cauliflower, toast with mushrooms, fried spicy potatoes and broccoli(you'd have to look for the matching names on the menu or refer to the pictures I attached). It seems nice for drinks (I've never seen a house-made absinthe before) and the cheaper tapas at $5 per seem like a good deal. We tried some of the pricier menu options and were very disappointed. We ordered charcuterie and tinned fish but weren't advised that these plates are basically duplicates (exact same pickled vegetables, sauces, potato chips, etc.). The jamón tasted off so we left most of it on the plate. The two waitstaff seemed overwhelmed. Ocho, Taberna Espanola y Licoraria as it's called is a small but chill spot. The ambience is that of an intimate dive with music going. It's on the smaller side so 4-5 tables with counter seating. On the nicer days include outdoor seats too. So, let's get these bites out of the way. The chacuteria had a nice layout of chorizo and iberico. both having a smoked flavor with a nice dipping sauce. The additional mini saucer of vegetables and olives were more of garnish rather than something you want to pick at, especially with some other other actual Tapas. Got Bufala Frita which is seasoned and fried cauliflower. Good and alright priced. Broccoli escarole with garlic and pine nut had great flavor and would recommend this as well. If you have a full table and want some bread the toasted baguette de ajo was good. It includes "sexy oil". Seriously that's what it's called! Maybe it's an aphrodisiac. I wasn't huge into the La Carolina - pancetta, bleu cheese and dates drizzled with balsamic. The table enjoyed it and if you like sweet with a touch of savory, you'll like it too. When ordering an espresso, they warn, out of courtesy, that the espresso machine is older (tasted fine). Only downside is that is EXTREMELY noisy. Need to practically shout to communicate. Nothing can be done about that. Just be prepared. Also, parking is pretty bad in the area. The entire block across the street is closed for parking, and sidewalks closed, due to a massive construction project. Safe bet is to park at the QFC or the Swedish Hospital lot. read more

Looks like they still offer happy hour which is a bonus. This is a great place to share plates and try a lot of variety on the menu. The more you get the more you get or try! It's a small place so come prepared for that. Smaller groups are better. Drinks are decent as well. The service was top notch! We brought our dog and although they were not doing outdoor seating anymore that night, someone behind the bar allowed us to sit on their patio still cause of dog. The waitress, I feel, didn't really like that though and at first came off as though we were inconveniencing her. If they really didn't want to serve on the patio, we would have been completely fine to go to a dinner restaurant and respected their rules/time on outdoor seating, but they said it was okay... We ordered their Setas de Ferez and it was truly delicious. So much delicious mushrooms with a nice rich sauce. Though it was super hot and burned the roof of my mouth and some skin came off. Food is good, but perhaps not great. Now this is said as someone with high standards for Spanish food, because I lived in Spain in a host stay and my spouse's family is Spanish. I know what it's all supposed to taste like and most of what I had was close and good, but not quite all the way there or great. So for the US it gives a good effort. I am a vegetarian as well, so I do praise the high number of veggie and even vegan options. I was really impressed with that. I also thought the pricing was pretty fair given the portion sizes (relative to other Spanish restaurants in the Seattle area). Our check was $30 per person including drinks and about 5-6 smaller items. My friend tried the coca con jamón y huevo and said it was good. I tried the tortilla española, and it was a little undercooked but the side of aioli was lovely with it. The baguette de ajo was perfect and a full demi baguette. The croquetas borrachas were good - very salty, but intentionally so - and the romesco was very tasty and fresh. For drinks, I had an estrella Galicia which is canned, and was fine. I also tried the bomb pop, which is fun to look at and tasted fine, but probably more enjoyable for looks than flavor. We also had the churros con chocolate to finish and this was really my only qualm with the food - the chocolate sauce was good but the churros were very undercooked, small, and not very authentic Spanish churros. They were billed as Granada style. I ate churros about 3 times a week at just about every cafe in Granada and not once have I encountered anything that looked or tasted like that, nor were that undercooked. I would NOT recommend the churros, but the rest was fine or even fairly good. Probably a 3.5/5 stars on food and drink. Service was EXCELLENT. They were slammed and only had what looked like two people in the kitchen and two people serving and bussing and bar tending. They made sure our drinks were never empty and that food came out in a timely manner. They cleared space when we finished quickly too. They were very attentive anytime we needed something and answered any questions we had patiently. 5/5 stars here. Ambiance would have been fine but for the noise. It's a small place so you don't have much room between tables or between stools at the bar. You're kinda elbow to elbow, which is fine. The music however was WAY too loud. I think we were next to the speakers, but so was half the restaurant and the music was turned up to the max. I'm 31 and into loud concerts, but it gave me a headache. It was pretty hard to hear my friend right next to me too or the server when she was talking. Otherwise, it seems very popular and like a frequent hang out for all ages and group types. 3/5 stars for ambiance. I'd come back, but maybe for lunch when the music is a bit lower. read more

Located in the heart of Ballard, this place offers wonderful outdoor seating esp during evenings with expansive view of ballard & fishermans terminal area, and heavy foot traffic which is perfect for people watching! We ordered a few dishes for two people, since its a spanish tapa style restaurant. I would absolutely get everything again except for the churro. Gambas, meatball, ahi tuna, patatas were so delicious and worth it. The ahi tuna came with different mushrooms than specified in the menu, which was fine. The churro on the other hand felt extremely overpriced for its amount & flavor and not worth it. They have a big menu and we didn't expect the big portion as well so we ordered too much that we couldn't finish all.
