Perfect place for a nightcap after grabbing dinner in Ballard. The atmosphere is dark and moody with interestingly named cocktails that match the vibe. This would be a great spot for a date night or a small group. They have seating upstairs and side. I got the Oliver Reed and my boyfriend got the ginger bourbon. Both our drinks were delicious but on the lighter side.

So cute inside! I love the split level vibe with lounge chairs. Wish there were more seating upstairs instead of it being split for just two groups. The drinks are great. They also have a happy hour special.

Hazelwood is that a cool, jivey (not divey) spot down the strip that doesn't have as much hubbub as some of the other popular spots in the area. It doesn't look like much at first, but the drinks pack a punch. The menu has a wide variety of cocktails broken down into 6 "categories" from there are 4 cocktails within each one this makes about 24 unique different cocktails. The 6 categories are - "Birds", "les Filles", "Blood", "Saints", "Horses" and "Weather". I'm not sure what they all mean, but each cocktail within has names that suit its category. For example, I like the "Sante Sangre" from the "Blood" section. It's Tequila, Lemon, Campari, a little champagne and more shaken up and poured right in front of you. Let's take a second to talk about the bartender dude. He's been there in my handful of visits, and he does are awesome. He looks a hip bartender that you'd see in a fancy TV or movie bar but he's here at Hazlewood and is nice when putting in your order. The vibe here is again, chill and intimate. Definitely the spot you come to for a slower interaction like a date or tight group of friends. It's dimly lit with old timey photographs on the wall that some may consider creepy, but I think it suits look, like you're in the 1700's again but sipping fancy cocktails. There is decent seating, a few spots outside and upstairs but not much more which is fine because I feel that take away what makes Hazlewood great- Great drinks, with a chill classic feeling vibe. So, if you want a good range of strong craft cocktails, I recommend Hazlewood.

    Excited to try this place!

This is the type of place that I've been searching for. I wish that I had a bar like this back home. It doesn't even feel like a bar. It feels like I'm in someone's cozy house. The decor has a sort of dark cottage core vibe, which I LOVE!! I wanted to try a specialty drink so I opted for a Hot Toddy. Not only was my drink visually appealing, it was absolutely delicious and hit the spot for me to end the evening and retire to my cozy bed. This was hands down the best Hot Toddy that I've ever had. It even came with a little crochet sweater on the glass Joey, our bartender was an absolute gem and provided the best drinks, conversation and really added to the ambiance. The crowd was very cool as well and made this experience very enjoyable. I will definitely come back here when I'm in town.

I walk by here weekly and the only time I was there was on a pub crawl about 10 years ago and they kicked us out, which I don't blame them. I would've as well because we were out of control and it was our last stop. Glad my husband and I stopped in for a drink on our date night recently. It did not disappoint, and I loved the vibe. Hazelwood wraps you in its cozy embrace. The main room's chandelier adds a touch of elegance, and every room has a unique look. We didn't go upstairs but I'm sure it has the same vibe. They have a ton of Crafted Cocktails. Pretty sure they take their mixology seriously. Each drink has a unique name, often grouped together by themes. The Bartender was knowledgeable and made each drink like it was his precious art. It was great! You might find yourself chatting with a stranger with a cat on his shoulder and a dog by his side. So, gather your curiosity, sip on a cocktail or mocktail, and let Hazelwood's ambiance envelop you. Cheers!

Hazlewood is a great place for drinks with friends. If it get crowded, it can be slow to get a drink, as there is only one bar and it's hard to serve multiple people at once but the wait is worth it. The cocktails are so creative, and they have a good mix of cocktails to choose from; I've never had a bad drink here. This place isn't as good for big groups. There are a couple areas to sit for large groups but it's easier to find seats for smaller groups.

I love a good classy cocktail bar, but not a super fancy cocktail bar that you have to get dressed up for. Hazlewood offers a mood lighting and a cozy atmosphere for a date or a close get together with friends. They have a good menu of cocktails, but of course, make standard cocktail drinks as well. They have an upstairs and downstairs, and small corners for an intimate feel.

Unassuming glass of wine that's not up to par . Local wine will do. Use local less footprints. $14 bucks a glass is off the charts. I don't mind if I'm in a wine bar. Local beer is $5 bucks ! Common $14 bucks for a Portuguese wine? See you around.

Cool spot to hang out at and have couple of drinks! This place is pretty lit for me when I first visited. Atmosphere and interior design is spooky to creepy haha. Small cozy place but enough to have a little gathering. They do have two sides and upstair as well. Friendly staff and good quality cocktails!

Lovely cocktail place in Ballard. I really like coming here during non-peak hours and enjoying a quiet cocktail in then upstairs seating section. I do wish they had a bit more variety in the cocktails especially when it comes to seasonal drinks - over the years I've had the tried and true hits and can anticipate exactly how each drink will taste. I like that consistency and love bartender who I think is the owner - who is so nice! All in all - a true staple in Ballard and lovely place to hang out with a small group.

One of my favorite bars in Ballard! With so many options in this neighborhood alone it's hard to choose, but Hazelwood definitely shines. If you like craft cocktails then this place is a must, they have a good list on their menu but you can also get a custom drink made. My favorite on a cold night is the hot toddy, it comes in a pint glass and it's delicious. Last but not least, they just expanded into the space next door, so there's plenty of room for busy nights now.

The arancini was a special of the evening and came out perfectly hot and crispy. The calamari was also fried very well. We ordered munchies and drinks while we waited for our table at Delancey. The bartender / server knew we would be headed to Delancey in 40 minutes or so, and handled things well accordingly. We got a plate of olives (tasty, great finger food) and drinks. The Yonder cider was good, not too sweet. The Martini was tasty. I had two quibbles: The first was with the pricing: the martini was charged as two separate items: 1) gin (I suppose the charge varies by the kind of gin or vodka in your martini) 2) martini (which is apparently the non-vodka or or non-gin part of your drink) While I'm sure this makes it easier to track for the bartender and inventory, as well as for charging, as a customer, it's a little odd to have a mixed drink be a two-part charge. The second was the included 20% automatic gratuity. I don't object to the concept of a standard service charge, I just wish it had been more prominently displayed so that I wouldn't have added a 20% tip on top of that (and my tip was on the amount that included tax, service charge and drinks / food). So, buyer beware ... the service is good, the ambiance is nice, the food and drinks are good -- but the payment / billing is non-standard, and can cause unexpected surprises.

I am showing my age by saying the restaurant is VERY LOUD, and our table was in a very dark spot in the restaurant. Oddly, they didn't have enough table lamps for all the dark tables. Our server said they "ran out". How does that happen? I stalked a departing table to take their rechargeable lamp. Anyway, my expectations were likely too high going in, and I was annoyed before even ordering, turning on our cellphone light to read the menu. The food is pretty good, though not mind-blowing good like the reviews suggest, and we had one bad dish. They offer varied Khmer dishes beyond noodle varieties, which is a plus. Go if you are looking for variety, skip the fish, bring ear plugs, and hope you have a brighter table than ours. Parking is street only. 3 Stars for the food, minus 1 star for the restaurant environment (unrelated to staff) The Food: k'tiss dip with crudités, $18 - 4 Stars We chose the marrow stone blue oyster mushroom option - p'set. The mushrooms are sautéed in Khmer seasonings, fermented bean curd, and coconut milk. The veggies are mildly pickled. They paired surprisingly well and a unique dish to try. kroeung kumeraage, $15 - 4 Stars This dish has an option of fried chicken or fried mushrooms. We chose the chicken since we already had mushrooms. Kroeung is the Khmer seasoning. Our server said this dish and papaya salad are amongst the most popular. Since we have a veggie dish, we chose this over the papaya salad (which looks great, too). The chicken is lightly fried, not crispy outside, super tender, and paired well with the kroeung aioli. trei chmouy tuk tei omperi, $40 - 1 Star The menu says serves 2 but not really. The menu doesn't say so; the server didn't mention it. Luckily, by this time of the meal, we have acquired the little table lamp, which enabled me to see the long fish bones that had not been removed. FIVE of them. The noodles are a pathetic overcooked limp pile. The best part is the turmeric sauce. Do not order this dish. Epilogue: I happened to walk by Sophon this past weekend. I was surprised to see a sign saying they are temporarily closed to resolve internal issues. (See photo) That is never a good reflection of management. There is now a GoFundMe for the unpaid staff who had to quit their jobs.
