It's kind of hard to decide what to eat from Oliver's Twist if you look prior before going. The menu looks quite a bit different if you look at the website online versus what the QR Code has on the menu when you get there. Some things are the same but not many. Oliver's Twist is more like a cocktail bar and while we didn't get any of those and just focused on the food we didn't leave disappointed. I ordered a noodle dish, a vegan version of it. Sorry, the name of the dish escapes me so I apologize. If you like the picture in my review and decide you want it I'm sure the server will know by showing it to them. My noodles were good. The green onions always add a ice touch to these type of noodle dishes. My dish had a lot of soy sauce, maybe just a bit too much actually but it's only really noticeable when you get towards the bottom of the bowl. Much of the food has a fusion approach to it or at least to me it did which always add a new spin to more traditional recipes. read more

I haven't been here in a couple years, so it seems like there is new ownership? I'm used to this being a fun cozy spot for cocktails and snacks. What I found was the opposite. My friend and I came right at opening, and were met with loud metal music upon entering. We had to literally yell at each other to have a conversation, and we were the only people in there. We both ordered cocktails, which were good. The server/whatever guy was nice, but eventually became distracted by a table of his friends and stopped checking on us. I had to flag down one of the bartenders to close our tab, and this is when the experience went from "meh" to WTF. As we were running our cards in his handheld thing, I commented on it. Something like "oh, one of those handheld things." He took immediate offense and blew up at me. Saying that I didn't know what I was talking about and other insane stuff. His face was literally turning red he was so annoyed or mad. He huffed off before we even finished closing the check, leaving my friend and I bewildered. This is a long overdue Yelp post for my visit on 8/12/20 to Oliver's Twist over in Phinney Ridge. Note: this was only for takeout and trying Cambodian cuisine for the first time. I never tried this spot preC19 for cocktails and small plates, sigh now I wish! After studying the posted menu, I ordered the following items: Twa-Ko sausage, got 1 not 2 ($5) Kroeung spare ribs, got 2 not 1 ($5) Braised pork belly with bamboo shoots, egg, and rice ($15) Chix Bobun noodles with aromatics, vegies, egg roll ($15) The Homie and I tasted all items, fascinating flavors and glad we gave it a try. Can I just say that I absolutely love that this place is open until midnight. There aren't many places around with great food, a great patio, and open late. They recently changed their menu, and this steak dish my partner and I had was excellent. The slaw is onions, garlic, green onions, and tasted almost Korean. I would suggest getting rice with it, but that's just my preference. There are no fillers as-is, though! Which is always nice. On warm evenings, they open the restaurant windows and it's an indoor/outdoor feel. They also have 3 large patio tables available. The service is ok, nothing special, but not too bad. Will be back late-night to try the drinks and grab more of the shrimp chips (so good)! read more

Update 2021: Something soooo good to have come out of the pandemic. The flavors are so easy to like. Chicken rice or noodle bowls are packed with refreshing flavors, not overly heavy. Spring or eggs rolls, can't go wrong. When the short rib or Congi are on menu, you must try. The country bowl (8/2021) is so rich and , deep with flavor. And of course you can't go wrong with a classic Oliver's twists cocktail. My go to is a pisco sour or maylie. Thank you Olivers twist for continuing to adapt and serve up amazing food and cocktails. "My" drink was delicious. Not sure what it was because my friend and I accidentally ordered what each other truly wanted so swapped drinks upon first sips. All I know is that it was mezcal-based. I had the grilled cheese and tomato bisque which was so rich and hard to finish, but I gave it my best. The soup was really flavorful, and I enjoyed the saltiness of the sandwich bread. My friend's vegan char siu sando with shrimp chips looked awesome. Love the cozy atmosphere and dim lighting. Our server wasn't friendly, per se, but he was great about answering our questions and checking in on us during our meal and otherwise leaving us be. Major downside is coming home smelling like their kitchen. I noticed it got pretty smoky while we were there and sure enough I had to come home and take a shower. Thumbs down to that aspect, but thumbs up to everything else. read more

I came here on a quiet weeknight to meet up with a small group, eager to try the food here and support SE Asian cuisine The waitress seated us in the back with a large table (great!). Before ordering we kindly asked if it's possible to have separate checks (we anticipated 6-8 guests total). The waitress went quiet and reluctantly said, "yeah, I uh, guess we can". Sensing her dissatisfaction, we offered that if it was too much work for her we can proceed with one bill and figure it out amongst ourselves, or, I offered to put my order in and close out (unsure what the hesitancy was) in case I had to leave early. After a few of us put our orders in, again, we checked with the waitress if she was OK with the split. She didn't give a positive response. At the end, she charged each of us an automatic 20% group gratuity so I'm not sure why her responses were so despondent. Again, drinks were tasty, food was good, but the service was meh. Given the lackluster service (and charged 20% for it), I will go elsewhere. read more

We wandered in later in the night, close to the time the kitchen was going to shut down. We were seated in the back and tried to get our order out in a hurry. The place was really dark inside and we were all squinting at the menus. I ended up going with a shaken beef bowl. The food came out quickly and I was pretty happy. Just the absolute perfect spot for everything from to-go cocktails to some of the best food I've had in recent memory. They have done a fantastic job pivoting from their awesome cocktail bar pre-pandemic... to one of the best food options in Phinney - if not all of Seattle. If I could give ten stars for the pork egg rolls alone, I would. But don't stop there! The kroeung chicken rice bowl and pork bobun vermicelli noodle bowls are SO GOOD. Wash them down with a signature cocktail (highly suggest the Old Sally - beautifully house-made blackberry/sage shrub with bourbon) and you've got yourself a wonderful evening. I came here on a weekend evening at about 8pm. I came in a group of two and was seated immediately. We at first had a little spot in the back at a bar table but then once a bigger table opened up the waiter kindly offered it up to us and we switched places. The place has an intimate vibe that is dark and cozy. I did not get a drink but I got the braised pork rice bowl and it was delicious! The low light ambience and candle lights adds a touch of coziness. I met up with friend for happy hour This place offers small to medium sized plates similar to tapas. The bartender will gladly customize drinks upon request. Here are the items we tried: Truffle popcorn: I recommended at least trying the truffle popcorn. They are addictive and perfect for sharing. Bleu cheese bacon stuffed dates: These dates are delicious, rich, and flavorful. I love how they stuffed the dates with chopped bacon. There are 4 pieces per order and are also perfect for sharing. Grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup: This is the perfect comfort food. The bread was crispy and the cheese was perfectly melted. The tomato soup was rich and creamy. Lacinato kale: This dish had an earthy flavor, however a little bland for my taste. I can barely taste the garlic or chili. Definitely heavy on the lemon juice. Mayle (cocktail): My absolute favorite absinthe cocktail. The concoction of pear nectar, rosemary, vodka with a hint of absinthe is tasty and powerful. Tom Collins (Cocktail): A refreshing gin based drink with nicely balanced citrus taste. Service was top notch and our server always stopped by to chat. read more

Such a cute time warp of a place located on the border of Phinney Ridge and Greenwood! My friend suggested it for a sunny spring evening and it was simply delightful! We sat in the front window (warning it gets quite hot up here!) and we asked the server if we could possibly open the sliding garage type door - she was happy to oblige in no time at all! The atmosphere is like that of an old saloon mixed with a speakeasy. The restroom has an old gothic feel and further adds to the period decor as the window is shaded with a heavy black velvet curtain. Food and drink here were wonderful - full of flavor with balanced textures. I enjoyed the truffled popcorn so much I had to order a second order of them - for $3 during happy hour one can hardly say "no!" I pulled the bacon out of the stuffed dates so I could try them and they were such a delicacy! The tomato cappuccino with grilled cheese was probably the best grilled cheese/soup combo I've ever had. It was very rich in flavor so I'm glad I shared it with my friend! The kale was more of a stewed spinach type of dish than what I would have hoped for (kale caesar or something light) but if you like the taste of kale this will be up your alley. I like my kale flavor well hidden by other flavors so this was not as exciting of a dish. My friend ordered the pate and said it was pretty bland and tasted only of chicken flavor. She ordered that and the cheese plate and was disappointed that most of her options for food were toast or bread slathered in oil or butter. I enjoyed the hazelnuts on both the dates dish as well as the cheese plate. I thought the fruit compote on the cheese plate was also very complementary to the brie. read more

Great place to pickup sandwiches or vermicelli bowls. Our favorite sandwich is the coconut milk pork. We took sandwiches on a day trip and they were still good the next day! No hard bread. The employees have always friendly when I pickup. I definitely recommend calling in an order, or placing online and picking up. read more

Came across town to check it out - was excited because I heard good things about Oliver's Twist. The drinks were solid - it looks like the food is really good reading other reviews (I didn't eat there). The issue I had was honestly the attitude of the staff. I've been going to Oliver Twist for years. Left the neighborhood and still go back to visit Karuna, his staff, and drink delicious old fashioneds and bulleyes. Once COVID hit it was one of the first place I looked to see how I could support them. The fact that they moved to serving Khmer food and bringing family soul and supporting the community just solidified my love for this place. I have had take out from here so many times. It is also one of the places I am most excited to visit again in person- the fact that they're masking and requiring proof of vaxx makes me feel so much safer. Updating review to reflect all the changes in, you know, the entire freaking world. Happy to report one thing that's still the same is FIVE STARS, BABY. The Cambodian takeout menu introduced during the shutdown is fantastic, and I'm so glad it's been being continued now that eat-in is back. The braised pork belly rice bowl is perfect--savory, tender, and surprisingly light considering it's, you know, pork belly. I'm also a fan of the various vermicelli bowls....perfect for a hot summer night. And the old mainstays of garlic truffle popcorn and the best damned grilled cheese sandwich anywhere are there whenever the mood hits. Drinks? Yes please. The house specials are *chef's kiss* but it's hard for me to turn down the Hendrick's Cardamom Gimlet that I discovered on their "who's drinking what" board. As of early August 2021, they're training up a delightful new staff and making the hard, right decision to require vax confirmation for their diners. Going out these days requires accepting a little risk, and I appreciate Oliver's Twist doing everything it can to make it safe for servers and diners. read more

Perfect date night spot. This half bar half restaurant has a nice and mellow ambience with a great R&B playlist to set the mood. Drinks are delicious and food is comparable to some of the traditional Cambodian dishes I grew up with. Get the Beef Loc Lac - a delicious and savory dish that will fill you up even without the sauce! The staff serving was so friendly and attentive, and I really appreciated their relaxed nature. Oliver's Twist is by far and away one of the best hidden gems in Seattle. The owner (Karuna) makes everyone who comes through those doors feel like family. It's my favorite place to go for incredible craft cocktails and a delicious Cambodian meal, surrounded by what it feels like, are friends and family. During the shutdown, OT did a takeout menu. They offered the option to purchase an additional meal that was donated to a family in need. There is no end to the good Karuna and OT has done for their community and marginalized communities at large. Sat at one of their outdoor tables on a beautiful weeknight evening. My friend and I shared the kroeung chicken as well as the cousin's crab butter parmesan noodles - both were so fantastic! We opted to add a side of rice to the chicken dish and the server asked if we wanted it to be served under the chicken. It was a good decision because the right amount of sauce from the chicken soaked into the white rice. We enjoyed the food and service, and we felt it was appropriately priced. So fresh and delicious! We had the chicken noodle bowl and rice bowl, veggie spring rolls, and fresh rolls. The fresh rolls were big, fresh and crisp. The bowls were super tasty and the chicken was moist and flavorful, and not heavy at all - the kind of meal you feel good after eating! This is a wonderful small bar with a cozy feel, great cocktails, and super tasty nibbles. I have adored their truffled garlic popcorn since they opened, as well as the grilled cheese & tomato "cappucino" - good old comfort foods that never disappoint! After lockdown happened last year the owners pivoted and started doing take out Cambodian food (based on the owners' family's dishes I believe) and wow they have taken a good thing above and beyond what it started out as! I know they're working on a soft-re-FULL-opening, but playing it cautiously so as to protect their staff, patrons, and the Phinney/Greenlake neighbourhood as a whole. I support their decision to require patrons mask up when not actively drinking or eating. I wish for many more years of Oliver's Twist, and everyone needs to stay healthy for that to occur! read more

Oliver Twist is an unexpected find in quiet Phinney ridge with some of the best cocktails in Seattle. The decor is also very stylish in an eclectic way, and definitely could be Ballard. The cocktail menu is split between their house cocktails and classics. Among the house cocktails, the Sowerberry has been one of my favorites with Gin, elderflower syrup and grapefruit juice, along with the artful dodger, where cynar adds a nice earthiness to the the vodka and OJ. My favorite classics include a very Sazerac, as well as refreshingly light Presbyterian (soda water helps). There is also a food menu, which I haven't tried, but ventilation in the kitchen is a little weak, as I could smell popcorn and grilled cheese permeating the room, which could be good, but not when it is a bit burnt. Along with Bathtub Gin and Spur, Oliver's Twist is one of my favorite bars for cocktails. They have been around for a few years, and before the current speakeasy trend took off, and for good reason with some of the best cocktails in Seattle. read more

Four of us (over)ordered the pork egg rolls, ahi spring rolls, mango salad and 4 entrees - short ribs with rice, pork vermicelli, chicken vermicelli, and chicken curry. I may be biased since it was my choice but the chicken curry was the winner! The other dishes were also great but I love me some curry. Of the apps, the ahi spring rolls were the standout! A massive slice of tuna deliciously surrounded by veggies and herbs. Unfortunately no pics because we dig into the food 5 seconds after it hit the table. Food is good and the cocktails are great. Love that they kept the cocktail program from the previous owners. However, not too likely to go back at this point. They are often closed when their posted hours say they're open, they continue to ask for proof of covid vaccination despite the pandemic being declared over and we were turned away because I did not have my ID with me (my husband and I have lots of grey hair and wrinkles. Oliver's Twist is a cute spot for happy hour in Phinney Ridge. I ordered their Miss Nancy cocktail which was a nice drink to sip on. My cousins and I sampled their roasted duck fat potatoes, garlic truffled popcorn, asparagus and their grilled chocolate-marshmallow brioche sandwich. Overall, I enjoyed it but was a little disappointed with the brioche sandwich. I was expecting the marshmallow portion to be gooey and toasty but it was more of the texture of frosting. Btw, do not come hungry. This is more of a place to sip on drinks and light snacking. read more

I love coming here for takeout. Some of their signature flavors remind me of my grandmother's Taiwanese dishes. Cambodian Congee and Braised Pork Belly Bowl are my favorites and any of the Bobun is a must-try. Excellent food, friendly staff-- I am fortunate to have this place so close to home. read more

It's good. It gets crowded and there isn't a lot of space to get comfy and stay awhile ( and drink and chat). I've been three times now just to grab a drink and catch up and it's been loud and hard to chat. That's not a true criticism but observation on ambience.
