On a recent sunny day, I met a friend here. Since the Lamplighter is a dog-friendly pub, I also got to meet her ADORABLE Bernese Mountain dog. But this review isn't about her puppy (100% excellent, 5 stars all the way), let me tell you about the pub! Loads of inside seating with well-worn wooden tables, plus a couple of wall mounted televisions to watch various sporting events. The patio was absolutely comfortable and we sat outside despite the chill in the air. And because it was on the chillier side, we had the patio to ourselves. Her dog enjoyed people watching while we talked. The drinks and nachos arrived quickly, and our server was attentive without hovering. The pub has a small parking lot with some side street parking. I can imagine it would be difficult on popular nights or nights advertised for sport nights. I returned a few months later to meet another colleague for a work thing. I ordered some nachos and a side salad. The side salad arrived quickly but the nachos took a little longer. A few bites in, I realises the middle was cold. Ok really Yelp you need to give us half star options because I'm being generous to round up to 4 when I really want to give 3.5. So we went there based on previous reviews that included fish & chips as part of their menu only to find out they've changed their menu. It wasn't that busy when we got there and only 1 person working Bar & serving floor. But still a second person was needed because order bell was ringing in kitchen & the one server didn't hear it because he was outside. Hubby & I split an order of HH chicken wings and Brussel sprouts. Both excellent. Hubby ordered HH Quesadillas adding BBQ Pork. He was disappointed in the amount of pork added for the additional cost. I ordered HH burger sliders & was sad that beef was dry & not enough sauce on buns. We will go try again because we generally liked the place & food. Just hope for enhanced staffing and a little bit better food quality next time. read more

Sadly, nothing lasts forever. The last two times I went, I knew it was over for The Lamplighter. I can't return, even though I miss seeing Riley and Becca. Unfortunately, a sketchy clientele has moved in from Goofy's on Crown Hill and taken over our clubhouse. They're rude, selfish, loud, obnoxious, and boorish. Tweakers ruin everything. Great beer, good food, OK service. There are rotating specials for every day that are pretty great. I've never had the cocktails so I can't speak to those. The service leaves something to be desired. It seems like they have a lot of regulars who all know each other and the bartenders, which is totally fine. However, it does mean that it can take non-regulars a long time to be served. This is a decent place to grab happy hour! I had the $5 burger and $5 BBQ pork sliders. Both were quite tasty. Atmosphere was pretty quiet with the mariners game on all TVs, the bar was full and a couple of people in booths. Parking is definitely tight and limited. read more

Rate: 3.5 Lamplighter is a decent neighborhood bar that's usually pretty empty (even on a fri/sat... at least the times we've been there). Their free dart board and pool table is an added bonus when you want to play a few games and just sort of have a chill night. Haven't tried much of the food, but I have tried the brussel sprouts and they're definitely worth it... the pretzel not so much. They do have a nice selection of beers on tap which are always pretty good. Service wise, isn't the best... but isn't terrible. read more

I must say, every time I come here I am so glad I did. Great little neighborhood pub, seemingly populated by lots of regulars that are more than happy to welcome drop-ins like me. It's happy, laid back, dog friendly, and people friendly too. They have standard pub fare, TVs tuned to sports (tonight was NFL and premiere league football), and some of the nicest bartenders around. Their menu seems to have gone through some updates, but the vittles are reliably tasty. And the PBR tall boys I got tonight arrived cold enough that they had little ice crystals in them--I dig that with cheap beer because it tastes better and it's also going to still be cold as you're getting to the end of the tall boy. The bar is quite large and open, and has all kinds of seating--booths, big and small tables, and the bar area--that can accommodate parties of any size, from big groups to solo cool-fests like me who bring their laptops to a bar to get work done. Plus they have pool, pinball, and I think one of those big video games where you play golf or shoot deer or some such thing...I didn't look too carefully. I don't know if this still happens, but I've been here on nights when about 10 or more musicians were gathered with fiddles and guitars and such, and they just did instrumental jams...not as paid performers, mind you, but as friends who make it a regular gathering and the rest of us were lucky enough to get to listen in. That kind of thing is, in my opinion, community lifeblood, and should be encouraged and savored wherever it exists. I hope they still do this here. Well, it changed hands again. The people that own Goofy's bought it. Still decent food, good taps, good Happy Hour specials. Some of the Goofy's crowd is showing up. It feels a bit rowdier now. No trouble that I've seen. Just louder and more raucous. The internet jukebox is fun. Until someone overrides what you're playing. I didn't like that much. I'm glad I was in the mood to go outside my norm based on stars and reviews. Yes, it's loud. It's a Saturday and this is a neighborhood "public house" with sports games blasting from the TVs and people having a good time. It's family friendly which I wouldn't have figured but a whole family with stroller age children were leaving when we arrived. First of all let me offer some background...I've been going to this Crown Hill Jewel since it was The Sundowner and Sweet Lou's (nearly 32 years!) The new owners of this neighborhood public house have worked hard to make this one of the best managed neighborhood pubs in the area!!! Our regular Monday night server, Sarah, is one of the most skilled and attentive servers I have encountered in the past 6 years!!! Becka, who sometimes fills in on Mondays, is equally skilled and is a gracious and thoughtful server!!! The beer is COLD! The cocktails are JAMMIN'!!! The food is very tasty and served very fast!!! I had the pleasure of sitting in with "Space Basil", a local band trying music out on a Tuesday night. They were JAMMIN' as well and were well-received by those in attendance that night!!! The Lamplighter also has a Golden Tee game and TouchTunes!!! I highly recommend a visit to The Lamplighter Public House!!! read more

I came here on a late Saturday night with a large group of friends, hoping to unwind with some good drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately, the bad service ruined my experience here. Let's start with the drinks and the food. I would say that the tater tots and the brussel sprouts (especially the brussel sprouts) are very worth! The brussel sprouts are crispy and made with thick yummy sauce--they're kind of addicting. Don't order the wings; $11 for 6 wings is not a good deal. The meat was also pretty tough to chew and rather dry. The drinks here are all on the dry side. My Moscow Mule didn't taste very good and definitely had too much vodka in it. The service was another story. My friend has a Canadian driver's license, which according to Washington state law, an acceptable form of identification INCLUDES I.D. cards issued by any Canadian Province. The bartender scrutinized the license, didn't seem too happy about it, asked for a passport next time, and then kind of chucked the card back to my friend. Very rude! As I was ordering my drink, he was not happy to serve me. He told me the next time we were planning on bringing a large group of people (which was around 10-15) I would have to call in advance. I understand if you feel overwhelmed when a large party came in, but this is a bar, not some tiny cafe or restaurant where you call ahead of time. We didn't rush at the bar with orders either and never showed any signs of impatience. It's Saturday night and there was plenty of space for more customers to come in. There's no excuse for blaming your customers like that or serving them in an annoyed manner. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

Great local bar feel. There's plenty of seating, nice tvs and a pool table. There's not much more I look for in a regular spot. Not a huge tap selection but a typical list of choices. The bartender was really friendly and was happy to make food and drink suggestions. What really sets this bar apart is the food. We ordered the brussel sprouts and the buffalo chicken wings. I live in the neighborhood and needed a place to watch a Seahawks game, didn't see a whole lot of cars in the lot, so I decided to give this place a shot. I was with my girlfriend and we were pleased to see a Rainer pitcher special for Hawks games. We decided to order some food, and we were blown away by how good the Buffalo Chicken Salad was! I mean, pub food is pub food and even when it's bad it's still usually acceptable, but this was actually GOOD! Fast forward a few months, we are now regulars for their Wednesday night Geeks Who Drink Trivia and will keep coming back. We've had many other things off their menu and never felt let down by any of them. It's a nice, clean, well kept establishment that manages to avoid being a bro-ish sports-bar vibe while also not being uppity and full of tech yuppies. Friend asked if we should go to that place next to Chuck's for the Seahawks game. I said "the place where you never see anyone." Now we know why. Had a few drinks which weren't too bad. the wings were pretty solid however the tots were soggy (park pub tots are awesome). The real problems didn't happen until the bill came. We were there at happy hour for the advertised pitchers ( $5 Rainier and $10 for microbrews. ) We were charged $9 Rainier and $22 for the other pitchers of IPA. We asked the waitress about it. She sent the manager over who proceeded apologize for the miscommunication (they did not change the prices on the menu). He tried to give us a rainier pitcher for $5 for the trouble but we argued with him for the prices that were printed on the menu. Average food, horrible service read more

This bar has seen quite a few owners and name changes in recent years, but I knew it and enjoyed it first as Sweet Lou's. For the most part, I still enjoy the space, now the Lamplighter. The difference between Sweet Lou's and The Lamplighter is ... not much. They still have roughly the same menu, the interior remains unchanged as far as I can tell, and the service is still somewhat spotty. One night you'll have excellent service, the other night you won't see your server hardly at all. I think most of this is simply based on volume of people. However, if they know trivia nights draw a larger crowd, they might want to bump up the number of staff to accommodate it. The improvements of the Lamplighter over Sweet Lou's include the fact that they now serve french fries (!), they have weekly specials, and they've added trivia nights (Geeks who Drink). It's a decent neighborhood, no-frills bar that will give you drinks at a reasonable price and decent bar fare (but I'd stay away from the nachos...not very good). Service was a little slow, but there was a very large crowd-despite this, the server was really nice. I give a three star because of the food. The food was not good, I got the BBQ sandwich and the pork was dry and was dwarfed by the amount of bread. There was zero sauce on the sandwich and huge and I do mean huge raw rings of onion of the sandwich, making it almost inedible(the size of hand cut onion rings). My partner got the beef sandwich and the portion of beef was also super small for a $13 sandwich and the meat was overcooked. All in all, for the price the food is definitely not worth it and I'd stick to drinks-so I give this place a mediocre rating. read more

This place used to be "Sweet Lous", which was actually not a freindly place. It came under new ownership, this last year. The food is great, and the drinks fairly priced, with specials. The staff, led by Manager Ryan, is great. He is friendly and welcoming, and expects the same from the rest. New ownership has spiffed the place up, and it is really nice. It is really the best of the North End Watering holes. A bunch of regulars, mix in with a crowd of newcomers, and give the place a very warm and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended. read more

The bar tender who only works one night a week (sundays) took her friends and personally meal priority over our table. We had to get up and ask her if we could place a food order. We had the chicken sandwich, Pulled pork and burger. My pulled pork arrived 6 minutes before the rest of the disappointing sandwiches. The burger was burnt and dry so we sent it back. She explained the cook only works one day a week just like her. Those are not legit reasons for poor service and trash food.
