Cozy Irish pub with cool aesthetics, gives a bit of apres ski feel. Was here with some homies for a NFL wildcard game and met some chill bears fans that we chatted up with during an epic comeback. This place only serves wine, beer, sake, and snacks like chips, but you can order burgers from the food truck next door and it's super good. The bartender was very sweet and kind, took care of all our needs and had a very positive attitude the whole time there, which is honestly exceptional. One the the better cozy bars in the greater Seattle area, would definitely visit again when I'm in phinny ridge. read more

My friends and I had high expectations of making Sully's our new neighborhood bar. Boy, were we wrong. We came in on 2/19 and couldn't have felt less welcomed. We walked in on a Saturday early evening and were charmed by the decor. No one welcomed us in or told us what to do, so we took a seat at the bar. We had our IDs and Vax cards out and ready. We sat chatting and realized after a few minutes we hadn't been helped. That's when the bartender came down to us and curtly said, "If you want a drink you better come over here." We immediately got up and went to the computer and the bartender couldn't have been more rude. He didn't speak to us at all. We ordered our beers with the least amount of interaction we could have, chugged our beers and left. We will not be back. read more

I was sitting outside enjoying a beverage when the owner starts yelling at a lady parking outside of the bar. He was upset that she was parking in front of his business. She was mortified and I was embarrassed for her. It's not like there was a designated parking spot for this place. Everything is street parking and he completely overreacted and tore her a new one in front of all of his patrons. I found this to be extremely unprofessional and unnecessary. So, this place is decked out like a fucking Swedish lodge, it didn't seem Irish to me at all. Is it supposed to be a fucking Irish pub? It was small and the building was old. The bartender was an attractive lady and there are some books there to read if a you're a weirdo that like to read books at a bar. They also have a gas fireplace. Pinball. The machines were really old, like from 1960's. I'm not too into older games but these were in great condition. This place was just kind of cozy and the machines are fun and cheap but I probably wouldn't hang out there for more than hour. It's a great stop if you're going from Ballard/Phinney/Fremont to Greenwood or somewhere up north. They have 'Target Alpha' (1976) and Super-Flite (1974), each are a quarter per credit (no quarter machine in the bar). Sorry Sully, I just had a awful experience in your place. My dog Franklin and I come in there about once a week. My dog is my best fiend and I really appreciate you allowing him in your establishment. What I don't appreciate is some of your patrons, especially some that don't like dogs and like to cause trouble. Its also unfortunate that your server have taken it upon themselves to be judge and jury. For this I will never step foot in your place again You treat my dog like shit you are treating me like shit. We stopped here because the outside looked so unique and inviting! When we got inside, we had a very strange encounter with the bartender. She did not say anything when we walked in, and proceeded to stared at us very intensely as we looked at the menu. Once we picked our beers, we said hello and tried placing our order. When we ordered she didn't say anything, stared for a moment too long, poured our beers and asked if we wanted to start a tab. We had originally wanted to sit at the bar, but felt so uncomfortable as she continued to stare at us. We then moved to a booth. One beer was incredibly flat and the other was fine. Not to harp, but as we were dissecting our strange encounter we noticed that bar itself was also really cold. After chugging our beers, we closed our tab and were met with the same, strange behaviors. We really wanted to love this place, but do not think we will be returning. read more

Solid place! A good amount of beer on tap, probably a store bought corn dog (for 1.75-no complaints from me, they likely make many of the other items), and a fun atmosphere. When my friend entered she thought, 'all this place is missing are swinging saloon doors,' and sure enough there they were on the bathroom stall. A good crowd was gathered to watch a Stanley Cup game, and odds are Sully's doubles as a great sports bar whenever you want. Great local spot for all; we felt welcome as soon as we entered. Peanuts aplenty out of a barrel, but not the type of place to throw your shells on the ground, show a little respect! Dogs were allowed, and we liked that a lot! Will definitely be back. read more

Sullys is a great bar. The people who work behind the bar are hard-working and attentive. It might be easy to forget that there is usually only one person working at a time for both the bar and the kitchen. Therefore it is typical for the staff person to collect drink orders from all those waiting before they leave the bar, go to the kitchen and prepare the food. There was a recent comment that made assumptions about why that may have happened and I challenge all of us never to rely on assumptions. Who likes Ireland? I do! Who likes beer? Me. Is this an Irish bar? I think so.. And you get the idea.. We had a little bit of a wait last night at the Santa Fe cafe, and so we walked down the block and spotted Sully's Snowgoose Saloon. It's location kind of makes it either a destination or a drive by. None of us had been, but we'd all be meaning to, so we made the short trek over. I really wasn't sure what to expect, but as we walked in, it became very apparent that this is one awesome Irish bar. The flags and beers and memorabilia (sooo much memorabilia) should be a big tip off if you're still clueless. I had Hoegaarden, which by default at Sully's, is served in those giant Hoegaarden buckets. Gotta love that. They were out of three beers the boys were looking to try, but they were still able to find brews to their liking, so no worries there. Board games and college football, a big patio, and a cute dog making the rounds, shaking hands for entertainment make this an easy go to for me again. I have no doubt in my mind that they show lots and lots of football matches (that's European for Soccer). No food, but there's really no need. Come to drink. Leave happy.. and a bit tipsy. read more

I'd love to give The Goose a higher rating. I mean, they have beer, they have bar snacks, they have a nice patio, and even a fireplace! But here's the problem - it's OVERRUN with neighborhood drunks. This place is full almost every single night (great for them), except it's not full of friendly, mellow folks like you or I. It's full of loud, sloppy, sports- and government conspiracy-obsessed fools. What's worse is that if you're not one of them you aren't worth deuce. I used to live down the street from Sully's and I called it the lumberjacks bar. Why? I've never seen more flannel shirts in my life! Why does that make Sully's great? It's because it's the best after sledding bar in Seattle! Flannel being the sledders material of choice of course! I'm going to go ahead and give Sully's my incredibly easy to get... Board games at every table--ours had UpWords, trivial pursuit, and backgammon 2. A fireplace, in case you feel the need for some cozy moments 3. Several beers on tap. Around 20 maybe? 4. A sweet bartender/waitress who, before you are three-quarters done with your drink, has a freshly poured one sitting in front of you 5. A magazine rack well-stocked with options for all ages. 6. A few TV's for you sports fans I can't really comment on the food because we didn't order any. However I would be willing to go back again to try it. They have a few tables outside for when the weather is nice--maybe I'll save my next trip until then. (But then I'd miss out on possible cozy moments on the hearth! Boo!) read more

Maybe it was that the live band started in on Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On" as we walked in. Maybe it was the roaring fireplace on a cold December night. It could have been the great outdoor patio with it's accompanying fireplace. Maybe it was because Sully's was our 4th or 5th stop on our Kris Kringle Pub Krawl. Whatever it was, I was happy. And I will be back. Update: If I could add an extra star, I would. We decided to stop by Sully's the other night to grab a beer and chat...hopefully by the fireplace. It was a weeknight, and we were honestly just looking for somewhere we could hunker down for a while. It seemed that we weren't the only one's with Sully's on the mind, and it ended up being more crowded that we were in the mood for. We stood for a while at the bar to wait to order, then when we saw that there were no open seats, decided to cut our losses and head to one of our other favorite spots. As we turned to leave, a guy in a red bowling shirt comes up to us and says, "No, don't leave! Let me buy you a beer!" We thanked him, but declined his offer, and continued our exit. "No," he said again, "I'm Sully, I'll buy you a beer! Come back and stay a while, I'll buy you a beer!" While tempting, we ultimately decided that we really were in the mood to go somewhere a little quieter. Part of me regrets not sticking around and having a beer with Sully himself. As soon as we walk in the bar, a man named "Jim" introduces himself and tells us there's no need for leashes. I ask him if he works there; he says no, he's just a regular. While shoving treats down my dogs mouths, he explains how Super Tuesday is a special day for Sully's: they hold an annual "Dog of the Year" election. Ugh - the worst service I've had since since moving to Seattle!! We went in for a beer and left within two minutes. The woman working there the night of 10/16 (mid 40's with blonde hair) came to take our order & acted all put out when I asked for a minute to decide what I wanted to drink - hey you've got about twenty beers to choose from - can I have a second to decide? Then we asked what food they had to eat & she acted the same way. We decided NOT to give them any of our money & split. Too bad becuase it looked like a cool place with out door fireplaces, but the service is HORRIBLE!!!!!! read more

With a name like Sully's it really seems like it should be a Boston sports bar, decked out in Celtics jerseys and a signed picture of Yastremski on the wall. Instead it's a sleepy neighborhood bar with a patio serving as the front porch of Phinney Avenue and an inside so wood-lined that it would make a beaver proud. I'm told that there's also a fireplace inside, but I didn't notice since I was fixated on the beer list on the ceiling. There was also an espresso machine and they serve food, but I didn't try either. Board games are on the tables and two pinball machines are in the back corner. One of the games is Upwords: if you never played it, it's basically a 3-D version of Scrabble and requires vocabulary skills as well as hand dexterity in stacking tiles. In this setting, it probably serves as a secondary sobriety test. The men's bathroom has a urinal and toilet right next to each other without a divider. That could make for some awkward conversation ("That rash is clearing up nicely Joe") and that's without even discussing the Trojan condom poster on the wall. I didn't try the women's bathroom. I was here on a weekday night and it's fairly quiet with conversation easier than in many bars. Overall it's pretty small and probably best serves for a low-key evening catching up with friends. read more

After living close by for three years I finally stopped in and had a beer with my girlfriend. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather with some delicious beer. I like the inside of the bar as well and can see myself enjoying some good beers during the cold nights. But since it is nice and warm out, hopefully I can enjoy some beers outside this summer. Seattle's Eastside lacks the character to create really good local Ale houses. An Ale house is built on and thrives by the locals that regularly visit. The community both forms and is formed by them. Since moving to Seattle proper a couple of years ago, I've been eagerly discovering and tasting from the plentitude of Ale houses scattered throughout Ballard, Magnolia, Phinney Ridge, West Seattle, and more. I've only just now imbidded at Sully's Snowgoose Saloon. Though the ale was good (I selected the smooth Black Butte Porter from their twenty-nine different ale's on tap), Sully's is an Ale house best left to the local locals. Sully's is confusing. It gives the impression of a traditional Ale house picked up from along some old English road and then dropped on south Phinney Ridge. Multiple times driving by I mentioned to my wife "That place looks interesting. I'll have to try it." Sadly, the first thing I noticed when I entered was the smell -- a musty, dirty smell typically found in bars, not Ale houses, especially not one with such a wide selection of brews. Sully's is a bar trying to be a Pub. As a bar is comes complete with a pinball game (where one regular eventually lost his Tommy-like bid after an extend play), jukebox, and one, overworked barmaid. As a Pub it offers a broad selection of good and inexpensive ales. The food, well, Sully's doesn't really offer any. Their fare is limited to two types of grilled cheese sandwich, chili, and pizza by the slice. My Pub mate I ate elsewhere. Sully's has its place among Seattle's Ale houses. It just not a place I intend upon returning when so many others offer so much more. read more

I work in the neighborhood, I won't say where, but close enough that I can watch Sully come and go throughout the day, I watch him take pride in his establishment and sweep the sidewalk, water the plants and beat the dust out of his frontdoor mat on an almost daily basis. Not only does Mr. Sullivan take pride in his establishment he makes a MEAN chili, if you haven't tried it, it's fabulous and I venture in occasionally to have some during the day. Part of what makes the experience for me is Sully's regular patrons, they never fail to make me laugh when I go in. Don't ask me why these people are in a bar in the early afternoon, but they are, and I adore them I ventured in on my birthday a few months back, after asking for my ID and realizing it was my birthday the bartender bought my first beer for me. Even though the friends I was with were less than impressed I made sure she knew I would definitely be back. I am a bit turned off by the fact that Sully allows dogs inside his bar, but his selection of beers on tap is almost unparalleled in north Seattle. I will continue to stop in whenever the need for an after work beer kicks in, which is regularly. read more

While I used to go to Sully's all the time (I used to live up the street and went two or three times a week), I now avoid it like the plague. The bar is great, the owner is great, and the beer selection is fantastic. The problem is some of the regulars get very drunk and there are little, internal dramas constantly going on you can accidentally get involved in. If you are unaware of this, you can walk right into a dangerous situation. I've twice watched as 'regulars' got in other people's faces - including a red faced bully threatening a girl. Be careful, several regulars here are the type of debaters who believe a discussion can be won with force, while others are territorial and adversarial. If a conversation gets started about politics, sports, whatever, there are several extremely drunk a-holes here who don't care if you are a guy or girl, they get angry and get threatening. While normally it is a laid back place and Sully is a very nice man, this place can quickly turn no fun. I've experienced it twice now. I would warn any woman and people in general to watch yourself here. read more

Cute little pub. That pretty much sums up this place. This dog friendly pub (or at least I hope its dog friendly cause there were dogs there last night) looks like an adorable swiss chalet from the outside with its front two peaking rafters and a small outside eating area and a small fireplace inside giving it this very cozy feeling. The beer and coffee menu are slanted high above the bar you have to crane your neck to read its chalk board style letters. The bar maid was very competent and sweet, getting to all of us efficiently and sweetly. Two pinball games sat lonely in the back not getting much use which was fine with me cause it was already a littel loud. The bathroom is also in the back on the opposite wall kind of hidden behind a table you have to sidle around to get into. No locks on that door so be aware! : ) read more

Sully's is a great little low-key saloon where you can make the experience what you want. The interior has the feel of a little alpen ski lodge with a nice fire place. Many patrons play cards, board games and the like while sipping on a wonderful variety of beer they have on tap. The patio area is a decent size for sunny afternoons--or even if you like to brave the cold. It's typically a smoker's paradise, but aren't most tavern patios these days? I recommend this place if you're looking for a low-key experience with great beers and nothing more than maybe a few tunes from the juke box or joining into the banter of the clientelle. This is the kind of spot I'll be walking to when "Winter-Death Storm 2008" hits in Seattle and we get 3.4 inches of snow and the city shuts down. Nice, cozy little place. read more

You feel like you are either in a tiny ski chalet or your mountain cabin...either way sounds like a place I'd like to spend a night drinking with friends! A fireplace at one end, outdoor seating when the weather warms up, a barrel of peanuts ($1.25 donation requested), cozy booths, pin ball machine, 1970's Trivial Pursuit sports edition, a hodge podge of magazines in the magazine rack, a mounted jack -a-lope head. No my friend you are not dreaming! And to top it all off they have a great selection of beers on tap. My friend ordered a corn dog and I saw another customer eating tomato soup and grilled cheese. This place is doing everything right! Although it is small there were 12 in our group and we managed to comfortably situate ourselves by the fireplace. This wonderful lodge planted on Phinney Ridge was the perfect amount of winter on the mid-February evening of my first visit. On the wall you will find snowshoes and a stuffed goose. To the right as you walk in the main entrance a toasty gas fireplace. There are also a pair of vintage pinball machines, a few worn-in booths, several tabletops, and if I lived in Seattle I would be a regular settling into one of the stools at the bar. During my stay, we came to Sully's and I learned how to play dominoes (officially for the first time ever!) They also had scrabble, pictionary, trivial pursuit, and many many more. It was a great night of playing dominoes next to the fire with some good local beers while watching the Olympics on the bar TVs. There was also an amazing line-up of music on a well-filled jukebox. Enough to keep our heads bobbing throughout the night. This bar hit the great status when I found out that dogs are welcome! Being a dog lover, i found this truly enjoyable! This is a great warm and cozy bar for the winter months, but in the summer there is a great patio to drink a few beers in the sun! I can't wait to return to Seattle to come back to this rockin' bar!
