I've been an on and off regular here for years, and I never really liked the old owner and old atmosphere. But now that Bobby owns it, it has changed so much for the better! It's still a neighborhood bar, where all of the regulars know each other (and for the most part, not only get along, but also do a lot of community activities together). A lot of the things that gave rise prior negative reviews have been fixed. Bobby put a lot into fixing the plumbing, roof, and A/C. The menu is pub food, but he's elevated it with hand cut fries, his own burger recipe featuring a crispy cheese skirt, and secret menu items you'll get to know if you become a regular too. Yes, it's a dive bar. Yes, it's rough around the edges, isn't that why we love it? Bobby has worked hard to bring that air of neighborly camaraderie back, and he keeps the prices at levels that working people can afford. The pool tables are great, there are regularly circulating games like Golden Tee and pinball, there are darts, both steel tip and plastic, and Mondays are fantastic for a little bit of bingo brought by the community. There are great musicians from the neighborhood who put on shows here and there, and there's also the annual pig roast that can't be beat. If you've been disappointed before, I tell ya, Bobby has done an incredible job of making it the neighborhood public house it always should have been! read more

I feel like it needs to be said that the bar is under new ownership as of last year. Bobby has done a great job giving it a bit of a face lift, including refelting the pool tables. They offer some bites, but keep in mind it's pub food and not a Michelin star restaurant. We went for St. Patty's day and they had a phenomenal corn beef & cabbage. They are now open on Sundays for football and offer 1/2 off or free (can't remember but discounted) pool games. It's a dive bar, so keep your expectations in line, but it's a fun neighborhood spot with great staff and stiff drinks! read more

Piper's is my neighborhood dive. However, our most recent visit was a bit off. Not sure if the recent rains/storms have resulted in leaks and years of carpet buildup getting wet or if someone just had a very bad day when we were there, but the smell (moldy vomit?) was nearly unbearable. The beer seemed slightly warmer than usual, and the bartender was more interested in socializing than she was in tending bar. Maybe next visit the carpets will have been deep cleaned and the knowledgeable dude with the glasses will be back behind the counter. read more

Group of regulars taking up all the seats at the bar - check. Pool tables that have seen better days - check. Thursday night football on the TV - check. Decent selection of beer - check. What was less expected - decent 80's and 90's music all night. A kitschy design, and food that was actually memorable. I had the fish and chips, which - being British - is kind of a bellwether for a place. It was golden brown and delicious. The chicken wings were kind of standard fare, but still good. There was a good selection of sandwiches and salads as well (but why? This is a dive bar). I also appreciated that there was a plate of bacon on the menu. Parking is plentiful around the side of the building. There was just one guy running the bar all night, so service can be slower. read more

5 stars given on a bang for the buck scale. This is one of the great hidden gems of the Seattle beer scene; tons of beer dweeb friends of mine had never even heard of it until the subject came up. Nice humble unpretentious place with a couple pool tables and a jukebox; feels like your living room. Plenty of tap handles, almost always well-chosen, occasionally hard to get elsewhere. They take care of their kegs and their lines. Food's OK pub grub; depending on who's cooking the prep/bake can be a little uneven, but if Mike's on you're in good shape. Big screen in the corner generally has the game on. Bartenders range from awesome, knowledgable, and friendly to slow and surly, so YMMV getting a pint. The owner seems to relish getting in shouting matches with people; I've seen her throw people out by hollering at them from halfway across the room. Feels kind of like a biker bar when she's on sometimes, but she usually keeps to herself and usually isn't even on, thankfully. Oh man... I used to come here 3 says a week, circa: 2005. +\- a few. Anyway... came back now 7-8 years later. All is about the same, except the food. When Mike bowed out, they changed the menu. Used to have a half dozen or so dinner entrees. Now it is just burgers and appetizers, and a few salads. On a positive, the service was good. The beer selection has multiple taps, but it was odd with 16-17 taps, I only recognized 1 beer. Unfortunately the 'Piper's burger' was disappointing. Not any flavor, although included some sort of peppers? The fries were way over cooked. That being said, at $13 for the top shelf burger, I would have still paid more for a burger elsewhere. read more

Tonight was a Thursday night. It was my third time in here with my Meetup group. The bartender who must of been the owner was really friendly and generous. He gave me a free juice (since I don't drink) and free use of the large pool table that rents for $8.50 per hour. So we did bring in about 15 people on average for our meetup for our 2nd round at a bar outing or Nijikai (in Japanese). The other bartender said thank you for coming in when I was leaving. So it's a great neighborhood tavern with board games, 3 pool table, darts and very loud juke box. You have to read the other reviews about the food and beer selection since I haven't eaten there yet. There's a great Mexican restaurant next door called Aventura. We went there for another Meetup dinner too and went to Piper's Creed afterwards. read more

I waited weeks to write about my last experience here hoping that I could just get over it, as I usually do. Turns out, I'm scarred. I'm not in the "industry" of bars and the like. Never have worked in the industry and probably never will. It's not my niche. I've been loyally coming to PCP (hehehehe) for OVER a year. I'm going to try to make a really long story as short as possible even though I'm itching to rage in full detail. Showing up a few Mondays ago, my intention with my good friend was to order burgers after three long and super strenuous hours of mowing my front yard. They've got this special where you order 2 burgers for the price of 1 on Mondays and I was pumped. After placing our order, we were told by the bartender that we HAD to order alcohol and that the only reason for the special is to lure customers in. I can dig it, it makes sense to me but it sucked that my friend had a cold, felt sick and had to drink anyway. No one had ever told me there were rules before. Plus, though the info. was given to us in a rational tone it was very uncomfortable and the way it was put to us was embarrassing enough for each of us to just want to leave right then. We really should have. There's more here and there, some whispers between the cook and the bartender with mocking laughter and even direct looks in our direction. All this ends in a bad way. We ask for the check and the bartender says to get it at the bar. Weird. Keeley who is the other bartender I've seen here has brought the check each time I've dined but whatev. Seeing as how I was in mid conversation, I waited to get up only to be interrupted by the bartender taking our plates. My friend had barely touched his food due to feeling like crap and wanted to take it home. When I requested to take the food home, the bartender told me that was against policy. I guess because my friend had barely touched his food, the bartender called it "ordering to go". Because I really liked going here so much, I wanted to clear things up before I got on my high horse and never came back. After going to the bar to talk to the bartender, I was told that I was just trying to get something for free, that I should know the rules of the industry and that I should just leave (not all by the bartender) but it was pretty apparent that one/two little rules never previously stated to me in my OVER a year of patronage was much more important than me being a continual customer. And the whole reason I have caps'd "OVER" thrice now is b/c the cook continually said that I hadn't even been coming for a year. Why don't you STFU and cook. You're not a people person, obviously and you are proud of it so stay away from the people. This is longer than I anticipated. I will say that I had heard rumors and rumors of this particular bartender and the cook throwing people out for cussing or random things that happen in bars and complaints that they were rude. Well, I guess I can now see it all happening pretty easily. I love how I said, if you're just going to take my barely eaten food without first telling me when I'm ordering it that it's not take home-able, may I please have my money back for the food I didn't get to eat? AND somehow that turned me into the cheap unimportant regular. How was I suppose to know the rules? They aren't posted anywhere, no one ever stopped to let me know there were any and I am not in the industry. *I'm leaving the name of the bartender anonymous but I'm sure anyone who goes here regularly could figure it out. read more

Just asked for an Old Fashioned at Pub at Piper's Creek and was told "we don't do that here." Like... what do you do? Is a Rum and Coke too complex? Ordered an IPA because in Seattle it's a safe bet even a shitty bartender knows how to pour that. Atmosphere is cool and divey. Good food deals. I used to live around the corner ('03) and went to this place a few times a week. I will never go back. Tonight I ordered a hamburger. Without the bun. I understand that this may make you upset, but bread wreaks havoc on my digestion and makes me ill. So it's worth it. Ask someone to hold the mayo or the tomato, nobody bats an eyelash. But lemme tell you: avoiding bread and beer sucks enough on it's own, without having to be harassed for it. Anyhow, it seemed to really bother the charming fellow who took my order, because he called me a "gluetard" and said he would "punch me in the throat if I ordered fries." Wow, dude! Sure you want to make violent threats to your customers? Although I really did want fries, I was so caught off guard, that I actually ordered a salad instead (which is absurd, I know, but I merely wanted to acquiesce to the person who would be in charge of my food). I remember when the P@PC served hand cut & battered fish and chips and decent quality pub food. While I don't need to spend time critiquing the poor quality of the food -- perhaps the cook is jaded after 10 years? -- it's just pub food and what was once impressive no longer is. The food showed up, and I was confused. There was cheese on my burger, which I specifically declined, and although there was the lettuce tomato and onion that come with a burger, there was no salad otherwise. Oh wait, actually there were like nine (9) pieces of wet, slimy spring mix underneath the lettuce. Great - that must be a salad. I think not. The service is deliberately avoiding our table, and it's abundantly clear that I am the target of some sort of anti-gluten sentiments now. . . all because I didn't want a bun ... I went back and forth on whether to even mention that my meal came without a salad. Eventually, I stood up and walked up to the bar with my plate. [I should add: I am a server/bartender/food service professional. We want to know when you are dissatisfied. At least, we really ought to. It should not get to this point - in any restaurant. Slow, uninspired service and low quality food is one thing; rude, pissy service with no concern for your experience is unacceptable. I have never threatened a customer, or in jest or otherwise.] Anyhow, this is not the case at Pub at Piper's Creek. Neither the cook nor the bartender who took my order gave one iota of concern for my satisfaction, and even showed me outright contempt for being what they felt was a pain in the ass. I was only ever polite, and even apologetic for requesting the omission of the bun. I asked if my meal should come with a salad, when he asked me if the slimy spring mix hiding under the lettuce was not a salad. What did I do to get sh*t on by these guys again? Oh yeah, I didn't want a bun. Right. He finally said he'd fix me a salad, and I became immediately reluctant. By now I know what kind of place they are running here. By his aggressive and sarcastic tone, It was clear that I could have no trust with this person. Based on the attitude of the server and the cook, who had silently teamed up against me, I was really getting the feeling that this was the sort of place I can see them messing with your food... I said I'd pass on another (slimy gross) salad, and with a snide, sophomoric laugh (but fortunately, not a punch to the throat) agreed to bring me fries instead. The fries never showed up. I'm not sure if I'd have eaten them if they had. I cannot remember being so turned off by a restaurant... Having already paid and tipped upfront, I walked out without another word, dissatisfied and defeated. I don't write today out of spite. But I will never, ever go back there. I'm writing this as a caution for the rest of you: maybe you'll enjoy the pub I used to frequent... just as long as you don't need anything, or the staff will make things very uncomfortable for you. read more

This WAS my fave watering hole after work- meet up with the S.O. and have a few, BS with the regulars and bartender, maybe shoot some pool or darts.... Then one day we were shockingly and suddenly booted.....why?? Because my S.O. and I were playing around, tickling and poking, and all of the sudden the bartender said "that's enough, get out". He wouldn't explain why. So I called up the owner and she told us it was because I said "ow, stop it, that hurts" to my S.O. (in a playful manner, mind you) and it could lead to abuse"......wtf??? We were kicked out because of her ridiculous hangups and the fact that people can't "touch" each other there. WTF???? If they won't allow you to be yourself and have fun with your adoring other, then don't go to this place. Sorry we're not like most of the regulars there, and it's not like we were all over each other. Anyways, no reason for us to apologize. Besides the mediocre atmosphere, drink selection, and food, this one has lost all its stars for us. read more

Their food is also pretty good as well. If you're into games they have cornhole, pool, and darts. I think I also saw some board games. They also have a velvet pig. A VELVET PIG! The Pub at Piper's Creek is quite possibly the best kept secret in North Seattle. This place prides itself on presenting local brews that the average Joe Q. Public has never heard of. They serve up some of the best local seasonal beers and they regularly rotate more than half of their 15 taps. The decor is minimalist at best, but what do you really want? They've got a few fish nets, pictures and nautical trinkets throughout. The bar is full service with a decent smattering of various booze, and the bartenders are well-versed enough to pour you the drink how you want it. More importantly, they know the beer, and can steer you in the right direction. Here's the best part: The food here is incredibly underrated. For pub food, you won't find anything better. From fish & chips to stone-baked pizza and huge burgers that are epicly good, you will not leave this place unhappy. It's nearly impossible. This place comes highly recommended if you're not out looking for anything in particular. They have three pool tables, an ecclectic clientele and one of the more mellow juke boxes around. The food is great. Ben and Tommy serve up a Reuben that's more of a blessing than a sandwich. The beer selection is borderline mind boggling. Thankfully they can guide you through this raging, foamy sea of selections to something you're sure to like. The crowd gets four stars. The people are great, it's just that I hang out there, too (378 feet from my house, within what we pros like to call "stumbling radius"). I loved this place! However, as I have come to find out, the owner and cook are psychotic! I have visited the Pipers on a regular basis for the past four years; the last year has been the best. They hired Carlo the bartender and he is from New York, finally someone with a bit of East Coast attitude in Seattle. They finally started to show sports on the one small, tiny tv in the bar. Things were looking up for them, however.... A friend and myself stopped by the other night to get a bite and a brew in us and all things were great. Played a couple games of pool and unfortunately watched the Red Sox come back after being down 7-0 in the 7th inning. As a group of us were playing pool, I decided to go out back and have a cigarrette on the back stoop. As I was watching the pool game and my turn came, I threw my cigarrette down on the ground and ran inside. After about a minute, the cook (gotee, earings, etc.), came in and started swearing at me for throwing the cigarrette on the ground. I continued to offer my apologizes and he continued to offer his foul language. It got to the point, after eating and drinking for about two hours (and the tab that we had) that we just had to leave. It was quite unbelievable! Im a bartender and I know some nights get rough but don't just start swearing at customers for a cigarrette thrown on the ground, its a waste of energy. So we decided to close out our tab. But, what shocked me was that as we were leaving the cook continued to swear at us, quit unprofessional. My girlfriend and I chose this spot yesterday for a celebratory drink because she had just been cleared of cancer. Imagine our relief. We were met with the RUDEST service from the bartender I've ever had in Seattle. I worked in restaurants for twenty years & forgive a lot but her attitude was beyond unwarranted. The friendly line cook & the delicious burgers he prepared, sadly, cannot redeem the poor service we had. We took our celebration elsewhere. There's a jukebox and pool tables and darts. There isn't anyone to take your order at all. You have to go up to the bar to order food, too. I had the burger and fries and thought the food was okay. There's nothing too special about this pub, but lots of beer and several excellently dirty games of Scrabble led to a pretty rockin' good time. I did find it weird that it was so empty on a Friday night. Maybe it has something to do with the really odd location on Greenwood...? Or that it is slightly dingy? Or the fact that I didn't see a waitperson once during the course of the night? Are you supposed to order food at the bar or something? That was kind of odd. For gods sake, lower the beer price. Love the selection, but $5 for a pint puts you out of our price range for a hang out in crown hill. And I so want to hang out. Clean, kitschy fishing scheme, friendly staff & regulars, pool & Sports games- perfect. A large salad & a pizza put us back $22 with 4 beers costing $20. Ouch. Would love to come back for the big exotic BBQ in June & would like to venture here more, but not in this tax bracket. Or maybe just for their happy hour during the week. We'll see. read more

This update is long overdue and I'm actually a little disappointed that I didn't get on it sooner because people are still hitting that "useful" key like it's going out of style for my old review. That's not quite fair to Piper's Creek anymore because like so many things in life, people and places change and grow. I'm not going to make some empty claim that Piper's has turned over a new leaf, but in the last year, I've popped over about 5 or 6 times and the few changes I HAVE noticed, seem to be for the better. The new gentleman behind the bar (with the accent) is probably the catalyst for what I can only describe as a more "welcoming" Pub aura. I sure as sh*t wish I could remember his name because give him a couple minutes and he'll remember yours. You might even get a handshake on the way out. Now, that's what I'M talking about. That's what it's about & maybe Piper's has finally figured that out. Either way, add this breath-of-fresh-air behind the bar with the upgrade in liquors, the new lighting fixtures (that add a great dimly lit element at the bar top) and some interior tweaks, and you got a neighbor of yours that sometimes considers coming in once and awhile for a quick brew. Judging by some of the same ol' complaints in recent reviews and seeing some of the same ol' faces working from back-in-the-day, I can't imagine the Pub is in the middle of a Renaissance period, but let's just say there has been some effort made. Monday nights are 1/2 off burger nights! Need I say more about that? The blue cheese burger is actually pretty amazing. It comes with fries or a salad (but really, if you're at a bar getting a burger you should probably not be worrying about salad, am I right?) and is actually a pretty substantial amount of food. They have a good selection of beers on tap and a weird fish theme. Or an awesome fish theme. I change my mind every time. The location is kind of strange-- in that interesting Holman/Greenwood junction across from the smokehouse and next to a potentially sketchy Mexican place. I'm pretty sure I'd never have come here if my friends who lived in the neighbourhood didn't introduce it to me, but now that I know it exists I kind of want to go every Monday... right after Gossip Girl. read more

They had three pool tables, while very nice, seemed to be a little too close to other pool/dining tables and coin operated ($0.50 a game, not bad though). The atmosphere is awesome. This is a place so easy to like, on all levels. Unpretentious, affable, chill (in a warm way), one of the best beer selections in town (the owner/maestro Ben has been in the industry for years - and it shows). I could yada, yada on all night about the charm, but you know what charms me the most: The food! "The Pub" has been my go to place for meaty, beefly intense, hand formed goodness for years, but dammit, they've taken it to a new level. The burgers are bigger (or at least they seem so), juicier and just more whammo wonderful than ever before. Ditto the (hand cut, of course) fries. And, yes, they still have the (embarrassingly bargain-ish) half price burger night every Monday, but the kicker for me is Sandwich Tuesdays featuring, the "Sandwich Of the Week", launching (for me) with the best Cuban Sandwich this side of Tampa (hell, better than any Cuban Sandwich I *ever* found in Tampa). Chef Tommy is a wizard, and it shows, not only in the day to day fare, but shines so splendidly in the specials (I just wish they'd put that Cubano on the regular menu). And yes, service could be a bit challenging and churlish in the past. But that is indeed past, and under the new management, both the experience and food will keep me - and my friends - coming back for more! read more

Updating my review to note a few things. There is always great beer here, and the staff is helpful, knowledgable, and in my experience agreeable. The food is superb and well-priced - not health food, but this isn't a salad bar. My friends and I are regulars for the beer, the food, the staff, and the atmosphere (never too busy but rarely dead; quiet enough to have a conversation but not boring). Some folks seem hung up on the staff being occasionally abrasive. I'm no expert on everyone's personalities, but I've never had any trouble or been bothered. Folks should keep in mind that every cook, bartender, and owner has to deal with belligerent drunk idiots all day long, and eventually some moron asking the bartender if they have coors light fifteen times in a row while he sits in front of twenty of the best draughts in Seattle has GOT to get old. For what it's worth, the staff has always treated me extremely well, introduced me to some great beers, and made me feel at home. Your mileage may vary, but bartenders are only human too. read more
