I love a good dive bar, and The Rez has been on my Yelp bookmarks for at least a year (if not more). Every time I've driven past their Roosevelt location I've noticed the prominent "Happy Hour" sign out front, so when a friend recently suggested meeting up in the area I eagerly chose The Rez. I gotta say, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. A good dive bar is usually pretty ugly on the inside, and The Rez didn't disappoint. After all, outdated seating, wood paneling, and poorly-placed TV's can all contribute to making a dive bar what it is. But usually this stuff still gives a place personality. Not at The Rez - it felt like the smoky backroom of an old 1970's Elk's Lodge than a classic Seattle dive. I was also less than impressed with "Happy Hour" - there were no food specials and I don't think our drinks were discounted at all. It was $30 to get out of there after a beer, a cocktail, and two appies. On the plus side, the service was pretty friendly (bar service only) and there was plenty of street parking to be found. Next time I'm in a dive bar mood in the big city, though, I'll probably go elsewhere.

Pretty fun dive bar, I don't play pool but if you do they have it. Good strong drinks and a nice patio area.

Small parking lot in behind the building and there's a pool table in the back corner of the bar. It's a nice local bar but you also feel that "see a new face, give a stink face" service that I'm noticing Seattle local bars/restaurants do a lot. The food is mediocre to disgusting. It is made by the bartender (which we wish we knew beforehand). Just from that knowledge, you already picture a certain quality of food. It was actually worst than we thought it'd be. We ordered drinks, Mac n cheese, hot dog & chips, and their special homemade recipe of Swedish meatballs. We were excited to taste all of it and were super hungry. Skip the meatballs, it tasted worst than Walmart brand meatballs. It had an obvious cardboard and processed texture and taste. They tried to mask it with mash potatoes but the quality of the mash potatoes couldn't be hidden. The only thing that saves the meal throughout was the garlic bread. If you're lit, the food won't matter but you'll definitely feel it on the toilet later. The hot dog and chips came 10mins after the rest of the food came and that was kinda lame. It was the fasted thing to make but still had to wait for awhile for a simple dish. Plus it was just potato chips, not fries so what's taking so long.

They've got tons of pinball machines, but the thing I absolutely LOVED were the booths with the pinball machines built right into the tables. I've never seen that before and immediately thought it was such a cool idea. Definitely the kind of spot you stop into for a drink and then end up hanging out way longer than you planned. Overall just a really fun little bar with a lot of character. I'd absolutely come back.

They have games, an ATM to get quarters to play the games, free condoms box above the quarter ATM. And my favorite part a Photo Booth! A great bar to me has a Photo Booth, street fighter, and private booths. This has it all. Love how we can have fun playing games, taking pics, choosing a song, and having great conversations in the comfy booths. Service is helpful. One night one of the games ate our quarters up and never worked so we let the bartender know and a few minutes later he gave us our quarters back. Staff is efficient and keeps the bar clean picking up any left behind glasses quickly. The bar is quirky and fun. Private and comfy booths, and lots of clowns everywhere. Sad clowns, happy clowns, creepy clowns, and more clowns than you can count! The bathrooms are unisex with plenty of stickers to look at. Always hand soap and toilet paper available even when busy. Hard working staff! Some areas of the bar like near the bathrooms have flashy lights and makes it feel like you're at the circus. The vibe is laid back and care free. Have yet to try the food so no words on that quite yet! Always a great time at Shorty's. Literally one of my favorite bars! Highly recommend!
