This is a fairly small, hole in the wall, neighborhood bar with speakeasy vibes, though it is fairly easy to locate the bar since the name of the bar is painted in a large wall. We walked in as a party of 2 on a Thursday around 9pm and it was not too busy - probably half the bar was occupied. We opted to sit at one end of the bar because the bar seats are where the vibes are at. The place is decorated in a fairly elegant and old school manner, so you are somewhat transported away from the outside reality. We got the Tobe's Thique Mint and Garden Party. I loved the creaminess and cinnamon afternotes of Tobe's Thique Mint, and it also looks somewhat pretty. It is quite a heavy drink, so one was enough to fill me up. The Garden Party was a bit of a miss since as much as I tasted the orange and grapefruit, it was a very light drink and tasted a little watered down. The biggest plus is that the drinks are fairly affordable compared to the greater Seattle area, priced at $14. I liked how their menu says 14 for $14, as they have just 14 cocktails to choose from and the drinks seem to rotate seasonally. For us, we went just in time to still have the spring menu, but they will change to the summer menu on June 20. read more

This is just about the cutest most petite little bar with character you may ever find. If you've ever been enchanted by the wardrobe in "the lion, the witch and the wardrobe," I would compare walking into this bar to walking into the wardrobe, only for weary, overworked adults. Walk inside to enjoy craft cocktails, cozy neighborhood vibe and unique decor that's perfect for the dog lover in you, and everyone you know (Fantastic portraits of dogs featured here!). On Mondays, they will play your records if you bring them! I haven't been yet, but I plan on bringing in a couple favorites! The bartenders are personable and chill. Really enjoyed coming to Ruby for drinks post-dinner in the area! It's a little bigger than expected (although I basically expected just a counter so it's definitely still small) but there is some seating along the wall. Would definitely recommend coming with a small group, as there isn't a ton of space. I thought the drinks were great! Super interesting and yummy. My partner got a banana cocktail that tasted like a PB&J which he loved. Service was great! They kept coming over to check on us. We also got the pretzel which was somehow the best pretzel I think I've ever had. It was so light and fluffy - would honestly come back just for the pretzel! read more

This place isn't quite a speak easy but it definitely feels a little like that. The exterior of the building barely hints at what's inside. You could walk right past and either think they're closed or not even notice they're there. In fact we almost did just that except that a patron standing outside told us we really needed to try it. I suggested that more signage would let people know they're there but the barkeep said they kinda like the way it is. And, fair enough. On this Sunday evening there was a steady stream through the door all evening. This isn't the kind of place where everyone hides behind their phones. The whole bar was chatting away. A nice break from the usual Seattle freeze. The interior is a lush mix of damask fabric walls, chandeliers and a fun wall of pet portraits. The drinks here are really special. Mike, (the owner?) takes pride in his cocktail program with a mix of house made and premium bitters along with a whole variety of other special items. The menu is snack focused but we just stopped in for a drink (then stayed for a couple more) so didn't try it. 4 taps of beer. No official mocktail menu but they have a few options on hand. A great addition to the already strong neighborhood cocktail bar scene. Will definitely be back. read more

Ruby is my new favorite good-vibes cocktail joint that I want to keep as my own sweet little secret but also want them to thrive so will dutifully spread the word. Came in a couple weeks ago to celebrate a friend's birthday and we were well taken care of by Mike who couldn't be friendlier or better at cocktail profiling. The ambiance here might be the only positive. The drinks were subpar, and the bartender was incredibly rude to a member of our party who ordered a non alcoholic drink because she was driving us all home. We asked for a basket of fried pickles to split between our table and we're accosted because "this isn't a restaurant" despite the fact everyone in our group minus one got more than one drink.
