I was pretty stoked when I heard a Shake Shack was opening in my neck of OC. Finally got in and experience was really good. It was really crowded but food came out quick (about 8 mins) got the chicken sandwhich and fries. Both were fantastic. No complaints from my first time here. At time of review this location currently has 3 stars which seems low. I assume just the madness of it openings and being super crowded gave some early crowd members a bad experience, but my time here was great. read more

Stopped into this Shake Shack and ordered a standard burger with no extra toppings. Although the beef in the burger was too salty for me, the bun was soft and delicious. The counter staff was courteous and very friendly. My order was ready in about 5 minutes. It's a small place, so ambiance is not a topic of conversation. Parking was easy and free. read more

My wife and I always get quality food in a short amount of time. Between Burger Lounge and In N out, we like to vary up our burger selections and nothing beats their avocado bacon burger. You can even do up to four burger patties just like In N out and they have gluten free bun options. Service is always friendly and they have high chairs for our baby. I personally like the ikea type lighting they have there and the bathrooms are very clean for a fast food restaurant. We will continue coming here and enjoying the hell out of it. read more

Not good... period! Don't believe the hype. Chicken is way to salty and greasy, burgers are mid, milk shakes are watery and Fry's are even more salty then the chicken. Made my way over after the initial opening. It's super clean and the service is very polite. With that said, it's still a bit chaotic. My food order was incorrect and at some point was lost. The manager was really polite in making up for it but at that point it had been about 20 minutes after getting the "it's ready" text. He was so incredibly kind, as we were the other staff. They went above and beyond to make everything right and just really had the best customer service I've seen in a while. Salty and small and lame. It took us a little while to try the new Shake Shack on 17th, because we couldn't stand the aesthetic... but we weren't missing anything. Miniaturized and salt on salt. I ordered the Carolina bbq burger, it looked delicious online; tangy sauce dripping down the bun, piled high with fried pickles and thick bacon. And it looked like a good size, for $13 I expected a restaurant-sized burger. No joke, what I got was a Wendy's junior bacon cheeseburger with twice the salt and none of the brightness. There wasn't even a suggestion of "tangy Carolina bbq sauce" on this tiny, smashed flat burger. And the SALT... I couldn't even finish the itty thing. There was more fried than pickles, I didn't reach an actual bite of pickle until halfway through the burger. I expect that kind of bait and switch from a crappy fast food place, but for what we paid and what the food looked like on the menu, I expected better. The peach flavor in the peaches n cream shake was extremely subtle, I was really hoping to get that peach fix, but sadly no. It got here fast though, we had it delivered, so I can say that for the service, it was quick on a Monday night. The point is, if you're looking to overpay for burgers after your kid's baseball game, this is your place. If you're expecting great food, you'll be disappointed. And if you're a grown man, and hungry, order double. read more

The manager was rude and not accommodating for a celiac disease allergy and with held the free burger simply because we asked to put the bun on the side or have the burger made with no bun. I've had Shake Shack before a while ago on a layover and I was real hungry and paid too much because I was at an airport so I don't remember much about the food ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Still, I was excited that it opened close by and we went the first week it was opened and it was really crowded so we ordered online to go. We ordered 2 Shack Burgers 2 fries and a shake. I know they just opened and had all new staff and it was crazy busy but...they forgot the fries. It wasn't a hard order. I brought it to their attention and they gave me another bag for the fries. All good. We got home and the size of the Shack Burger was a joke. It was like a kids burger. A sad tomato and one leaf of lettuce. My husband at it in 3 bites and I think he could have finished it in 2. The little boat of fries were only half full. I put both orders in one boat and it still could use more. I don't know if this is what it's always gonna be like but totally not worth the anticipation and cost for a $8 burger and $4.50 fries. We laughed cuz the In-n-out line had been shorter so we thought people were trying Shake Shack, but that won't last long with the cost & portions size. I'd rather pay $3 more for a bigger way better burger and awesome onion rings at Burger Lounge down the street that is worth the money than go back shake shack. These guys are awesome, purely because they give the option of gluten-free buns for my daughter who has a gluten allergy. Ordered a burger and fries today at 1:50pm was not too busy got burger at 2:10 that's 20 minutes what is worse is the tag on the side said it was prepared at 1:55. So now I know why the fries were cold and the hamburger was barely warm. Disappointed in the food portions. Small burgers. I was shocked they were so small and didn't look like the pictures at all. I usually don't finish a burger myself. The Habit is far better with more reasonable prices. Fries were average. The shakes were ok but Not worth $9. Chicken bites were good but only 4 pieces for $6. Hard pass next time. Posting this review at the request of my husband who is a huuuuge hamburger lover. *His first time to Shake Shack *Ordered a Double Bacon Avo Cheese Burger, fries & drink combo.  He thought it was pretty pricey at $24.50.  He laughed when saying, "And they wanted a tip!" *His opinion was there were too many employees. - Thinks he saw about 15 people just in the front area and wonder how many more were in the back. - Is this the reason why the place is so expensive? *Sat outside. - The cold windy day made it challenging to eat and to keep napkins from flying off the table including the paper food tray. - The area could use some kind of acrylic wind breaker. Hamburger & fries were good, but not worth it. One thing for sure, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Good luck to this business. He won't be back any time soon. read more

I generally don't look to try or rate restaurants when they first open, usually give them 30 days or more to iron out the "opening jitters" - however that applies more to proper "sit down" and order from a waiter/waitress type of establishment, not so much for fast-food/fast-casual where you order from a counter or even DIY from a kiosk. And i have never been to a shake-shack before, so i decided to jump in sooner than later. The short version: WAY , WAY, WAAAAAYYYYY OVERPRICED for the sizes & quality of food that you get. Tried: regular cheeseburgers (effing TINY!!!) , "themed" double cheeseburger , fries , milkshakes and a flavored iced tea. The regular burgers are VERY small. Like, this is the style (more or less naked - no ketchup, mustard, pickle, lettuce, tomato or sauces) you would expect to see on a "dollar or value menu" ANYWHERE else. But nope, it's almost $8 for a single naked cheeseburger. Ridiculous. And BORING - not much flavor to be had at all. The "themed" double cheeseburger was better - i got the "roadside" - caramelized onions(supposefly simmered in beer), swiss chz, Dijon mustard - much tastier overall , but also GREASY AF and the potato bun couldn't handle all the grease & moisture and essentially disintegrated while i was trying to eat it. Normally , i would have expected the doubles to be what the cost of a single is here about $8 -- but no way, this sucker is about $12 ‍‍‍. Fries - they are krinkle cut style and pretty generic - they just crank'em out and from what i could tell, don't really bother with any kind of "measurements" as far as what gets into the container (little paper tray/boat) - some i saw go by were overflowing off the top, others barely got up to the rim of the paper container - i of course received the latter , what looked more like a 1/2 order of fries. They sit on large sheet trays under a heat-lamp after cooking , and by the time they make it into your order , they're not very hot. mine were just barely warm. I would call them mediocre at best. And for almost $5 for PLAIN, one -size only -- LAME. Got a strawberry shake and a peaches & cream shake - the strawberry was baaaarrrrrrrely strawberry , tasted more vanilla than anything else. My wife liked the oeaches & cream one though, much more substantial on the flavoring. And finally, got a honey-yuzu iced tea -- it was just ok as well, very lacking on the yuzu flavor. $5 asc well. So for a full meal for two - 2 reg cheeseburgers, 1 double themed burger, 1 french fries, 2 milk shske and 1 iced tea -- a "fast casual" meal mind you -- was NEARLY $50 and nowhere near as satisfying as i was hoping it would be. NOTHING struck me as "OMG this is so good i can't wait to come back" , especially with the cost involved. I may try again a few months down the road (maybe to try some of their chicken offerings) , but i don't think anything can overcome the disappointment of quality/taste vs. OVERPRICED/COST. I'll file SHAKE SHACK in the "only if absolutely necessary" category, so many other places locally with better taste/quality, portions & VALUE. Thanks anyway. read more

I went today for the first time to Shake Shack Costa Mesa. I went in with high expectations and left disappointed. They have been open for about a week and a half and they still need to get their act together. The burger was small (which I actually prefer) but the patty was almost non-existent and there was no taste or seasoning to it. They simply forget to add seasoning of any kind. There was no sauce or condiment on the burger. Did they simply forget to add it? The French fries were nothing special and the chocolate shake had an odd and bitter taste to it. I will say that the eatery was loaded with plenty of staff trying to please but that didn't really make the food taste any better. I plan to go back in a couple of months to see if they have the kinks worked out but for now...not impressed. read more

Driving through- a good shake shack meal, interesting throwback center to mid century modern surrounding the place. Regarding the wait response- who would wait two hours without saying something- that's somewhat nuts. Unless there were 100 people waiting or they lost your order and then searching out assistance might be in order. Overall a nice addition to the 17th street corridor. Plus the surrounding restaurants looked good as well. Japanese, Mexican, etc. Parking was no problem but after 1 pm. read more

I've been killing myself at work for three days and all I wanted was a hot meal. I placed an order in the app because it's supposed to be more convenient right? I ordered 3 items, a burger, fries, and shake. The app said let's stay in touch and asked me for my number even texted me to say my order was almost ready. So I sat there in the front waiting because they had 1000 people up at the front counter instead of jamming my way to the front and demanding my order like I should have. And behold, they don't text you to come pick up your order. Let you know when it's ready so mine just sat there and got cold and my shake melted mind you I only have 30 minutes on my lunch before I have to be back.
