This is another one of those restaurants that leaves me saying "how in the world have I missed this place all these years?" Now that I've gotten a taste of Sevan G&G, I WILL be back...there's really no stopping me, so don't even try! Let's just start off with one of the greatest perks to this cozy family-run restaurant: it is BYOB! Nice! We went with another couple and also a couple bottles of wine on a Saturday night. We only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, which we wouldn't even have had to do if it hadn't been so freezing outside that the patio was unoccupied. The menu offered some of the same things (spelled a bit differently) as the Lebanese restaurant called ilili that I recently reviewed from our trip to NYC. So, I was super excited to find these kinds of offerings in Dallas! We ordered a few dishes for the table and shared. Kashmir Chicken had to be our favorite - it was fabulous even though to me it sounded a bit odd. Chicken in a curry cream sauce with raisins and pineapples served with rice. It was delicious...not too much of the strong curry flavor, so even non-curry lovers could enjoy it. We tried the Sevan Hummus, which is their house-made hummus served with pine nuts and grilled lamb meat mixed in. It was really delicious - probably one of the better hummus dishes I've had in town! We also had the Chicken Tawook, which is served in some manner at most Mediterranean places. It was good, the meat was maybe a little dry, but the pita and sauce it came with helped it out. Our other selection was the gyro plate, which was so different than any other gyro I've had. Instead of being shaved, the meat was more like a flattened sausage served atop pita bread. It was still really good though, with their version of tzatziki sauce and a ton of fixins on the side. ALL that food came out to be about $25/couple, which we thought was pretty awesome. The service was attentive - no complaints there. I am definitely coming back again for dinner and also to try this place for brunch - I saw that they got some awards for their brunch, among other things. Open until 10 and we totally took advantage of that showing up at 9:30. At first it seemed they were rushing us but the server's friendliness started to show after while. We ordered the greek salad to share and then both got the gyro plates. The greek salad was really good. The feta wasn't as sharp as I am used to and the dressing was really good. The gyro plate was also really good and a ton of food. Only slightly disappointing part to me as that they didn't appear to have fattoush salad on the menu which I was kind of hoping for. Tried the Pistachio Chiken this evening. I'm not a fan of chicken breast(drummys & thighs are so yummy), however this was delicious. Melty feta inside and crusted with pistachio then baked and served with the most delicious Basmati rice and grilled vegetables. Prepare to wait for 25 minutes as they cook per order! Cons: The service is terrible. That's the only thing. The lady was rude and took forever with the check. Pros: The food is AMAAZING. Order pita and hummus for appetizer, I've had hummus before but not like that, holy crap it was good. Then I got the gyros plate for the main course. Unbelievably good. The girl I was with got tilapia, she wolfed most of it down before I could get a piece so I assume it was good, lol. I managed to get a tiny bite, and yes, it was the bomb as well. read more

You know that you're in for trouble when you have to ask the waitress if you've accidentally ordered from the child's menu. As a lover of Greek spreads, I can assure you that the only thing going for this place is that they give you so little of them. The pita was the consistency of a Mexican tortilla except far more chewy. But rest assured that they will discourage you from eating too much of this "pita bread" by charging extra for more. The babaganoush has a wonderful smoky flavor. Gyro salad was amazing with very tender meat and large enough to share after appetizers. Everything was seasoned perfectly. This is a great neighborhood restaurant. It's in a little strip mall that could use a few other friendly neighbors, but really that just means there's plenty of parking so we shouldn't be complaining, peeps. One sentence summation of my experience: This is a casual, family-run restaurant serving up tasty Mediterranean food. What's not to love? The eggplant dip is fab. Everything is fresh and enjoyable. I booked a table there for a good-bye party one evening. I was asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. I said outside, but when we arrived our table was inside. No big deal. The food itself was good, but I was disappointed in general by the quality of the service. We waited a long time for our waitress to take our order, a long time for the dishes to come. It's a BYOB, but they couldn't provide us with wine glasses for our wine. We used the water glasses for the water - again no big deal. I asked for a bucket of ice for a white wine I had brought. I was given a cold bottle sleeve, but it didn't stay cold very long, neither did the wine. Again no big deal, but it's just starting to be too many points... So I guess I would not recommend it. read more

Ok dining here is not the best. It's a hole in the wall Mediterranean place with a staff of probably three people. My expectations were low to begin with and this proved it right. The first experience here was sloppy because even if the food isn't great, the service should be easy to compensate. There were about three other tables and the restaurant fits about ten tables and it took about 10 minutes to even get noticed and get some water. This could be understaffing or just operational mishaps, so let's move past that to the food. I had tilapia and falafel for my entree and mouhamra spread as an appetizer. So, the mouhamra is awesome. It's so different than other ones. This is a hummus-like spread for you folks who aren't familiar with types of Mediterranean spreads. It has walnuts and peppers in it and it's pretty light and delightful. I come back just to get this appetizer to go. But besides this app, the other food is very subpar. The fish was dry and bland and the falafel was just ok. If you're in a bind waiting for the libertine and can settle for less, then Sevan's is a slower alternative, but at least you can have some mouhamra. read more

This place is the biggest culinary secret in Dallas. You can always get a table, the atmosphere is romantic and quiet, and the food is authentic and delicious. The pistachio chicken.....wow. It's not often I remember and crave a dish months after the first taste. But it was perfection. The dolmas is my recommended appetizer. I've been to the Mediterranean and it's 100% authentic. This food is great. Gyro meat is great but not unlike any other mediterranean place. The staff is not great. They do not allow dogs on their patio even though there is never anyone out there. There is never anyone out there because they only open their patio friday and saturday. They say the patio is always closed for construction. I live adjacent to the place and there is no construction. This place has been here a long time but is obviously poorly managed and falling apart. I would not want to see the kitchen. Last time I went here they were missing some vegetables they normally serve with the meal which means to me that they are running out of food. Thats just one more reason why I think this place is on its way out and just trying the scrape some cash together after this covid downturn. I hope to see a more friendly and accommodating effort from G&G like the rest of the fine restaurants just yards away on LG. read more

Small family establishment. Cuter on the inside than on the outside. BYOB. Started with the Hummus. It was kinda bland so we asked if we could add more garlic and they brought us out some garlic paste and it helped it. The pitas were very thin and chewy which made it a little difficult to eat. We shared the Spanakopita and asked for the sauce on the side and the Mix Kabob platter. Both were tasty and a lot of food. I'd recommend trying it out. read more

Food, really quite tasty. A good solid 3.5 star experience on food. I had the mixed kebabs. I didn't love the kafta kebab, but chicken and lamb were good, the lamb wasn't very lamby, it easily could have been beef, but it was very tender and good. Boyfriend had the gyro plate. Holy pieces of gyro meat. I've never seen such thick, perfect slices before. It was good, but I prefer thinner slices, the thickness was a touch overwelming. The grilled veggies and rice on my mixed kebab dish were really really great! The baklava was different than I'm used to, but I appreciated it's lack of over-sweetness. The interior is very cozy, nice small space, a little cramped but it actually adds character, so fine by me. I don't like to do this, but service was just not good. We showed up around 8:20pm and the woman just seemed put off having to move another tables stuff out of the way in order for us to take the only available table for 2. She was overall very unfriendly, said very little and just had zero smile, emotion on her face. I don't need over the top friendliness, but it's nice to feel welcome in a restaurant and I just didn't here, at all.... it was kind of uncomfortable which is unfortunate. The bf and I decided try Sevan G&G after reading about it in the Observer. We were especially intrigued by their hummus with lamb. It was quite tasty-the toasty lamb pieces and pine nuts add dimension and texture to an already tasty hummus. The spices used were delicious. The dolmas were delicious as well. We shared the gyro platter which was perfect for two since we shared apps. The gyro meat was cooked well and had great flavor. We should've brought some wine, as it's BYOB, but be prepared to spend $30 per couple to not pay the $15 corking fee. The only downside was service was slow at the beginning and we had to flag down staff for water. Other than that it's a nice, subdued little place that's a hidden gem amongst all the loud and crowded hipstery joints on lowest Greenville. read more

So while the food was good (not the best) this place was a neat little spot to enjoy some good Mediterranean grub, and drink our own wine that we brought from home. YES, it is BYOB. I would recommend you bring your own cork screw for your wine bottles, since well theirs are not in the best condition. I gave this place 3 stars simply because the ambiance was nice, sat outside and had a nice lady from Lebanon as our server. However, this is a place that could use a little more service oriented people. While our server was sweet, the lady that greeted us was not so inviting. If you work in a place of service, smile, it does wonders. The food came out, and well we ordered sampler appetizer, and kebob sampler. The food was good, I think I enjoyed it more since I had a bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio that I paid only $15 for, instead of the ridiculous markups of the same bottle at another restaurant, where I know I would have paid at least $40 for. The group of people that we met outside let us know the food was good, but to expect the service to be a little slow. We didn't experience that the service was too slow, but it was not that busy to begin with. If it had been slow with not that many people, my rating would have dropped a star. The 3 stars is for decent food, nice server, and ok prices. When a Mediterranean place gives me cold pita and the gyro is from a frozen box, I just can't be the biggest fan, but I can see myself going back for the BYOB, and that Baba ghanoush.. now that was delish! read more

As many reviewers have mentioned, this is a family run business. Don't be surprised to see your waitress (owner?) helping her children with their school work between visits to your table. I mention this just to let you know what you're in for. Personally I find it charming. We've visited Sevan many times and we generally enjoy the food though the grilled meats have been regularly over-cooked (the Kofta kebab tolerates the cooking better and is now my favorite). It is a BYOB, one of the very few in the Greenville area. We bring wine every time and so do a lot of other visitors. We almost always go on weeknights and there are usually only a few diners other than ourselves. I am happy to see so many positive reviews for Sevan as I don't think they're getting much foot traffic. You have to seek this place out. read more

We picked this little Greek place on lower Greenville due to the BYOB option. It's very quaint and cozy. We ordered the Sevan Hummus and Dolmas appetizers. The hummus was delicious and I could do without the dolmas. My husband loved them, as did my daughter - so don't take my word for it. I ordered the Kafta Kabob, Russ ordered the Gyros plate, and Tara ordered the Pistachio chicken. We were all very satisfied with our entrees. Our wine, a bottle of Pinot Gris and a nice red blend, went well with each entree. My two complaints: the baklava was by far the worst I've ever eaten. It was very plain and just did not taste very good. The other complaint, which is okay if you're not in a hurry (which we were not!), but could be a problem if you were, is that the wait between apps and entrees was very, very long. We were the only family there! Overall, I did give it 4 stars because of the BYOB, the apps, and the main courses. Maybe if they read this they will improve the baklava! read more

I had a friend visit from isolated West Texas and I asked what she would like to eat while in Dallas. She said no Mexican, no BBQ. I laughed and said, OK, but what do you really wish you could have because we have it all. She said I would like Mediterranean, so knowing her, I thought Middle Eastern. So we came to Sevan's Cafe. The Falafel sand which was delicious and huge. I could only eat half of it. Get the lunch special with a Greek salad to round it out. She was so happy and content with her food that she hardly spoke through the whole meal. Later she said, that spinach pie was the best thing about Dallas! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Bread was awful. Hummus was average. Waitress did not understand changes to what I wanted to order. Possibly limited on English. Would not go back. Mediocre food did not compensate me for the savings on wine. Do yourself a favor, spend more money and go to Cafe Izmir. read more

I tried the Soujok Baquette: a spicy ground beef with Mediterranean pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and a hummus spread on a light French Baquette. Delicious. This place is absolutely INCREDIBLE! By far the best Mediterranean food I have ever had in the States. It's unassuming from outside but the inside is cozy and feels like you've been welcomed into someone's home. The restaurant is family owned and operated and the Father is usually in the back cooking up all the food as it's ordered, so it can take a little while at times, but it's well worth it and all a part of the special experience. My husband and I love this place! It has a nice welcoming atmosphere and a great porch....plus it is BYOB! A couple of recommendations...get the Sevan Hummus, it is by far the best hummus I have had. The consistency is perfect and it is topped with grilled lamb, pine nuts and olive oil. You can't go wrong with their Gyro Plate, which is probably their most popular dish.....really good flavor. I was craving Mexican food last night but I wasn't the one driving..so we ended up here. This place had one of the top Yelp reviews for Mediterranean food. Since it was BYOB, we showed up with a bottle in tow. The eggplant dip ( Baba ghanoush) was Amazing.. my only complaint was that the pita was rather thin and began to harden before our eyes. The Gyro plate and the chicken curry-ish (forgot the name) were really good as well. Once again my only complaint was the pita served with the Gyro.. I understand it was fresh, but it was slightly chewy. Each dish was well priced and the portions were generous, and the staff was very friendly and informative. This is just a good lil casual family restaurant with pretty much the whole family working shifts & living the American dream. I like that & am glad to support their endeavors. I will go back to G&G. I'll start there. I will give them a second chance, I think their food was clean, it was well seasoned, all in all it was delightful. I think the thing that left me the most, frustrated, if you will, was the service. The restaurant was not overly packed tonight and yet, our waitress didn't do much to serve us. The owner or manager stepped up to the plate and handled everything after a few minutes of her noticing we were sitting with no drinks and no food. I don't like writing bad reviews, I thoroughly enjoy honoring and respecting Restaurants that deserve notoriety for all things good. I know first hand that word of mouth goes a long way, furthermore that there is a great deal of competition. Especially in this part of town. The food was good, the Sevan Hummus was just what the reviews state, it was delightful. Their bread was a little different than what I am used to at Mediterranean restaurants. I had the mix Kabob and it was a nice dish, well balanced, not too large of a portion, actually it was perfect size. The Gyro plate was nice, the Gyro meat itself was pleasant, sometimes you get meat that just seems like it is frozen or processed and this was thin, well seasoned, fresh. All in all, it's a great place for a night out. Casual, good food, BYOB, honestly, if you've never been, go check it out, give them a chance, have a good meal. I will re-review after my second visit. I cannot say enough great things about this place! First off - it's BYOB - no explanation needed there. Perfect for girls' nights where you can bring a few bottles of wine and have a great time. They also don't charge you a "corking fee" and bring you clean wine glasses and an opener. I always order the Pistachio Chicken or the Gyro. The hummus is to die for! The food is so great here! The food is made to order so be patient when ordering, it doesn't come out in 5 minutes. The owner knows me and my friend by name and by order - she's a doll. I love Greek food and this is some of the best I have ever had. There is a nice atmosphere that is reminiscent of what I imagine a Greek cafe in the Mediterranean would be like. The gyros are large and use a thin pita that I like even better then the thicker pitas. The Greek salad is made with fresh dark salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, Greek olives, red bell pepper and cheese. Very delicious. This restaurant is owned and operated by a family and they take pride in what they do. I went here with a big group. They seemed to be irritated that not everyone showed up at once and that I asked my wine to be chilled. When ordering appetizers, I was told they normally wait until everyone is there to take the order... Just found some of their comments to be weird and rude. However, the food was very good.
