I believe I've found my go-to Greek spot. How, after 27 years of living on this city, have I not dined at this long-lived establishment? The cafe recalls the time when restaurants were at a tad bit slower of pace and social media sounds like Tolkien language to them. Service is in the same scale: so gracious an hospitable yet take their time. But damn - they cook some mean Mediterranean food. The dolmas were divine and the Pistachio Chicken stuffed with feta cheese shan't be overlooked. Oh, and did I mentione it's BYOB!? The adorable interior is something you'd probably expect from a restaurant that's been on the block a while. Lively murals painted on the walls, small cafe tables, quirky but cute framed pictures of the Old Country. However, my favorite aspect of the atmosphere had to be the overwhelming coziness of the place. The warm welcoming felt by the genuine and kind staff makes you feel as if you are coming home for the holidays. Maybe it's the Greek culture so well known for comraderie and family. This has some of the best Mediterranean food in town! It's BYOB, but sometimes that's just the way to go! We had a group of 10 and walked out paying $15 a piece . . . GREAT Value. I had the pistachio chicken, which was a chicken breast covered in pistachios with a very light almost marinara inside. It was excellent as were the grilled veggies it came with. The Mrs. had a chicken curry with was even better than mine. It's tough to nail curry sometimes but they got it! It was fantastic! If you've always sort of accidentally skipped over this place on Greenville (like I had until 3 days ago) you should give it a go . . . it's stellar. Great hummus. read more

I pulled up here for the first time with my friend for lunch. It was 2:15 and we had already gone by Ali Baba's, who close for lunch at 2:30. We would never be "those" people, so we came by G&G. It turns out they close at 2:30 as well, but the waitress assured us that it would not inconvenience anyone to serve us lunch. We sat on the patio and I ordered the Kafta Kabobs and my friend ordered some sampler plate. YUM! My kabobs were delicious and I had to get a to-go box for the leftovers. My friend raved about the baba ganoush, hummus, and dolmas. She was barely able to finish her plate! Both dishes, with iced tea, came to, I think maybe $23... much cheaper than Ali Baba's. I've now been a few times and each time I am very pleased. Have gotten take out and also eaten in. It's a cute/small little place, very cozy. The service itself is a tad slow, but I think maybe 3 people work here. Food comes out at a great pace though! It's a local Ma & Pop shop, and I love to support local. I think their son works as the buser and you can tell he'd rather be playing video games with his homies. Anyhoooooooooooo. We started with the Sevan Hummus (hummus with sauteed lamb and pine nuts), this was incredible. Then we got some little pastry ball with stuff in it (I know, totally helpful), but even though I don't remember what was in it, I remember that we all loved it! Just look for balls on the menu. Hay Oh! For our entrees we got the Falafel plate (I mean, how could you not), the Gyro Plate (I mean, how could you not) and the Kashmir Chicken (yes). Everything was so delicious, honestly though, the star of the entrees with the Kashmir Chicken, chicken in a curry cream sauce with raisins, grilled pineapple, veggies and rice. Stop right now and re-read that. CURRY CREAM SAUCE *faint*! All three plates were devoured. Then of course we got some baklava to sharsies...we enjoyedsies! My friends and I left with a tab totaling $60. Again, it included 2 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. I mean. Come. On. Reservations are suggested for parties of 6 or more! Oh, and they also have Hookah's! Parking can be tough, but they do have spots right in front or you can valet across the street, but be careful - you know Greenville, your ass will get towed so quickly. My friend and I visited Sevan for the first time last night. Thanks to Yelp for steering me to a place I probably would not have tried otherwise. My Yelp memory must be shoddy since I had forgotten about the BYOB. Conveniently, they share a parking lot with a convenience store (haha crack myself up) that sells spirits. We popped in for a bottle of red to bring with us. Word of caution, though, the menu says that they will charge you $15 for the BYOB unless your bill comes to $15 a person. That was a surprise to us, but also an excuse to order dessert. We tried the mazza plate (mix of tabbouli, babaganoush, hummus, and dolmas) first. I surprised myself by liking the dolmas, which I usually don't. The babaganoush did not have meat in it but had a very meaty flavor that I liked. We then split the mix kabob with lamb, chicken, and kafta. It was pretty darn good. The rice was juicy and the veggies not overcooked. Also, there was a garlic dipping sauce with the kabobs. The garlic was very intense; even after brushing my teeth and sleeping all night, the garlic flavor haunts me. Luckily I like garlic; skip the sauce if you're on a date or like vampires. To get to the $30 mark, we ordered the homemade baklava. It was crispy, not soggy, and just the right amount of sweet. One order had two pieces about the size and shape of my index finger. For me, one of the two pieces was perfect. I liked Sevan. It feels homey since it is small and family-owned. You won't get in and out in a flash, because they are making everything fresh. Just know that going in, and you will be fine. I hope that business is usually better than when we went on Friday night; it was maybe half full. The BYOB isn't so bad especially since there is the wine and convenience store that stocks up on just about anything. The restaurant is family owned and you feel that happy and secure vibe. You can't help but crack a smile when you see the family daughter work the register or the mother come out to personalize the experience by asking about your interests. If you are into art you'll be able to view and purchase works from local artists at the restaurant. It is a small venue but it is very cozy, warm, and has its own form of intimacy, class, and romanticism. Here are the must try's at Sevan: The Sevan Hummus - great tender meats mixed into the hummus with pine nuts. You've never tried hummus quite like this. Its warm and yummy with the pita bread. Very unique flavor. The dolmas are always fun snacks. Eggplant dip is equally good. Now for entree's I would highly recommend the Kashmiri chicken. The chicken was moist. The curry base to it was smooth, velvety, and rich. The veggies were nice and crisp. The bed of jasmine rice was aromatic and alot tastier than regular rice. The Pistachio chicken was also a great dish and VERY filling as was the Kashmiri. It was nicely crusted and had a very unique flavor due to the pistachios. I'd ask for the special chili sauce and the garlic cream sauce they have that isn't on the menu. The waiter/waitress will know what it is. Excellent, flavorful Mediterranean food with generous portions and good prices! Went here for lunch today and ordered the $5.99 kefta kebab sandwich. It was Huuuuge and the kebabs were sooo flavorful. I also got the salad. Beautifully done. Fresh, bright, excellent deployment of lightly shaved feta that I really enjoyed. Total bill was under $10. Well... where do I start? Having been to Greece I figured it wouldn't exactly be the same. But, I was hoping for a close 32nd? I found the place to be haphazardly thrown together and looked kinda dirty. The food wasn't anything to write home about and the service was terrible. The person waiting on us may have even been an owner... which is sad because she was pretty rude. The small side of hummus with beef was very small for $8.99... and perhaps that's because they went buck wild with the pine nuts. I didn't get any real flavor in anything I ordered.... damn I wanted to like this place. Lastly, it was like we had to BEG for our check. I agree with another review I read. I ordered the Mazza Plate - an appetizer that has a little of everything (hummus, dolmas, baba ganoush, tabouleh). It was $9 and it was TINY. I don't usually say things like this, but that was a straight rip-off. The entrees were also so-so. The Kafta Kabob was kind of dry but with a decent flavor. The Pistachio Chicken was also a little dry and underwhelming. I can see why people like it though. It's pretty quaint and the food's definitely not the worst. YUM! This place gets 5 stars for being the best Mediterranean restaurant that I have been to in Dallas. After reading everybody else's reviews, I HAD to try the hummus. I must say, thank you everybody! It was excellent! Perfect creaminess and flavor. I much prefer this version of hummus over the Greek style hummus. Because of this place, I now realize that Greek Mediterranean food just isn't my cup of tea. The tabbouleh was also most excellent. It wasn't over dressed like most places prepare it. Also, the dressing didn't have too much lemon which I liked. My friend and I shared the kebab platter for our entree. First of all, the plate was huge. We couldn't even finish the thing with our combined efforts. However, if I was still eating like I was in college, I could have probably finished the whole thing by myself (and feel like exploding). Secondly, these were some delicious kebabs. It came with steak, chicken, and gyro. All were delicious. The chicken wasn't dry and had a very nice charcoal flavor. The steak was seasoned well. OK - I have to admit - I'm a regular. When I go I order the Mazza appetizer plate, the Sevan salad and the Gyro plate....and no I usually have a date to share it with me. That said, the food is as solid of Greek food that you can get in Dallas. It's also family owned and operated which to me is a huge plus. I know the dad works in the kitchen and usually the daughter is serving us dinner (I need to get her name) because she's been much more friendly to us since we've become regulars. Two gripes...I wish the parking situation was better and when it gets busy they do get a bit overwhelmed. But that is a small price to pay based on solid (outstanding) food, a cute interior, decent location, BYOB!!!!, and just an overall friendly atmosphere. I could litereally swim in the Sevan Hummas. Deno the pita! That's what I get when I go there, followed by the Pistachio Chicken. And I couldn't be happier--well, until my car is towed away because Company Cafe Hipsters have taken up all the effing spots and I parked too close to Dodie's. It's almost worth it. Sevan is BYOB, so you can take in your own booze--huge plus for me because I'm addicted to Lambic beer right now and they charge about $10 for the small bottle at most places. The patio is wonderful and the inside is charming. Staff is super nice. I really love this little place. I'd go there more often if I didn't really dread the parking nightmare. read more

I can't tell you how many times I have driven past this place wondering about what it was like on the inside as the outside doesn't do anything to inspire you to stop, so I decided to call on my trusty friend YELP to see what folks had to say about it....and there were great reviews. I stopped in for lunch. My friend had a fresh tomato soup and greek salad for $8 which was a great price for all the food we received. I decided to go for something different which was there kafka omelet....they serve breakfast all day which is a treat for me as a breakfast lover....the omelet was so good and had a taste unlike any other omelet I had. I also had turkish coffee which was a treat. The owner waited on us and she was very friendly. The inside is quaint and I think could possibly be a good place for an intimate dinner at night. The prices are very reasonable and during good weather they havea outdoor patio. The only negative thing that keeps me from dropping 5 stars is the parking is bad. The lot is shared with company cafe and it is a small lot which means if you don't find parking you have to find neighborhood parking or maybe try the walmart across the street. Prices are not too high, the staff is low key and very chill, it's a small cozy restaurant with middle eastern decor all over, there's nice outdoor seating, you can have large parties, all the tables are pretty close to each other so you'll be sitting close to strangers. Me and my buddies had the gyros plate. The restaurant has fresh gyros off the spit which is great. For all you healthy folk, it can be a bit oily, but that's how it's supposed to be. What a strange and wonderful place! The menu is as eclectic as Greenville itself- It's the first one I've seen that offers both a full american breakfast and traditional greek cuisine. Example- items listed as stand alone side orders include- honey, two eggs, "extra coal" (uh, for the hookah?!), cheddar cheese, and chicken. As for the rest of my experience- my pick up order was ready in under 15 minutes (during our recent "snow storm"), the Kashmir Chicken alone was worth going back for, and the total was around $35 for hummus, one side and one entree (as for how the cost breaks down, I have no idea, since there were no prices on the menu). read more

I LOVE Lebanese, Greek, and middle eastern food with a passion and this place is SO awesome. The family that owns the place remembers my name, their turkish coffee is sublime, and their yogurt dip is perfect (not too runny). Whenever my boyfriend and I don't feel like cooking and want a *real* meal that's fast, we order gyro plate take out. I hope this place never closes, we need more friendly neighborhood restaurants like this near Greenville Ave. Oh, AND it's BYOB so you can choose whatever you like to drink and bring it with you!! In my experience a restaurant either has good hummus or good baba ganoush, this place excelled with BOTH. Plus the gyro sandwich I ordered was filling and filled with well seasoned meat. It's not like any chicken dish from any other culture you've ever had. If you Google search Kashmir chicken, you won't get any clue, either. Recipes vary greatly. You're served an unusually large breast, covered with a creamy sauce that's got savory, sweet, and tangy notes. For a breast this large, it's very velvety, too. How is it that I've never had such a delicious sauce on chicken before? I don't know why, I just enjoy that mystery! BYOB, without a cork charge. Wine greatly enhances this cuisine. After living in the hood for about 5 years, I finally made it to Sevan G & G for dinner. I do have to echo some of the previous reviews in that the location and outward appearance have a bit to be desired.... Pretty cozy inside though, so I'll let it slide. We started with the Muhamara (don't even ask me how to pronounce that) and it was pretty darn tasty... I think it's pretty much red peppers and walnuts, but all ground up together and eaten on a yummy warm slice of pita bread they make for one addictive dip. Yum! I had the falafel plate and was really pleased with it - fried balls of seasoned chickpea goodness with tahini sauce to dip them in? Umm, okay!! BF got a mixed kabob plate... The kafta (??) was yummy but the lamb was a little fatty. The gilled veggies that came with it were ridiculous - cooked just enough and seasoned with some kind of deliciousness I could put my finger on, but couldn't stop eating either. Definitely want to try a few more things on the menu before making a definitive call on this place... But so far, so good! read more

One of the Cool spots in Lower Greenville to stop by for dinner and not to mention its also BYOB. Its a very laid back setting at this Mom and Pop and children. I started out with the kibbi apetizer which is like minced meat with pickles, tomato and dip with some pita bread. My friend had the Egg Plant dip. They were both tasty and tempting enough to get full just off the apetizer but i managed to save enough room for Dinner. For Dinner i ordered the Kashmir Chick while my friend had the Shrimp. Mine came with a Pineapple glaze over my rice and Chicken cubes with raisins and a creamy sauce to go with it. The shrimps were kebab style and pretty big and juicy and we brought our Ciroc Berry for Libations so all and all it was a great meal but whats even better is to come with a group and order several items off the menu tapa style to really appreciate this hidden gem. read more

Small shop at the end of Lower Greenville. Sevan Hummus is out of this world. The lamb and pine nuts just add an extra bit of heaven to an already delicious hummus. I got the Kafta Kabob, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Kafta was tender and flavorful. I know sometimes Kafta can be pretty dry since it's just ground beef, but this one was plenty juicy. Overall great place. Family restaurant, which is kind of funny because their son (or one of them) takes one of the 4-top tables and uses it as his desk for homework. I feel like they'd want to have that table for some extra business (at least $30-$50/hour depending on time of day). We luckily got there before 3 more groups of 4 and got seated quickly. So we were in the mood for something different and I said, "Hey, Gyros sound good for tonight" so we were going to go to Ali Baba's but found out they were closed on Sunday. Odd but lucky for us we went on Yelp searched for gyros and Sevan came up. Just a mile from our house. We ordered 2 gyros, basmati rice, hummus and a greek salad. The gyros had a ton of meat on them (TWSS). Everything was really good. The greek salad was especially yummy with some kind of cheese (feta, goat, something along those lines). This place is quiet, unassuming, and very welcoming. The decor is clunky, the building is sub-par, and they don't have anything that resembles something that says "5-star"... until the food hits the table. This was by far the best Mediterranean meal I've ever had - the baba ganouj was smoky and creamy and I pretty much licked the plate. The mixed kebab plate was simply delicious, the rice light and fluffy, the chicken was moist and grilled perfectly, the veggies were perfectly cooked. Come here and you won't leave hungry, or unhappy! If you go to Sevan's, don't leave without trying the regular hummus OR the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). I've been to quite a few Mediterranean joints in the area and NONE of them have ever served dolmas as they should be: warm. These were melt in your mouth, perfectly cooked, and, most importantly, delicious. However, the two appetizers were more than enough for a late afternoon meal. We weren't aware of this prior to ordering our dishes and I was definitely stuffed by the time the entrees came. I ordered the chicken tawook, which was absolutely divine: two skewers of chicken cubes, nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. My dish came with a side of steamed rice/vermicelli (the rice was a lovely and flavorful jasmine rice), and some marinated and cooked carrots and squash. My other half ordered the pistachio crusted chicken that was like the Greek/Mediterranean version of chicken parmigiana. Sounds odd, but it's actually quite tasty (although I did like my order better!). I would have given Sevan's 5-stars but their service was kind of quirky. It's very obvious that this is a family-run business, but the women who were serving were more concerned with whatever was on their computer than coming by our table more often (and for the majority of our time there, we were the only two people in the restaurant at 3 in the afternoon)... This is a nice family run Greek restaurant on Lower Greenville. 2 of us were there the Friday after Thanksgiving - having had a couple of beers at the Bottle Shop. We were in serious planning mode - had a big dinner to do and still hadn't solidified the menu. We split a mezze plate - competent Baba Ganoush, Hummus and Tabbaouleh. And then I had a Doner type kebab. Again competent. Not earth shattering but nicely cooked and well served. I'd go back when in the area, but probably wouldn't drive all that way to eat here. Tried the Pistachio Chiken this evening. I'm not a fan of chicken breast(drummys & thighs are so yummy), however this was delicious. Melty feta inside and crusted with pistachio then baked and served with the most delicious Basmati rice and grilled vegetables. Prepare to wait for 25 minutes as they cook per order! Probably 3-3.5 star food, but the atmosphere and delightful staff gets this small cafe rounded up to a 4. It would have been a great place for a date... really low key, not terribly loud and BYOB so you can have a nice bottle of wine of your choosing. As for food, I had the gyro plate and the meat was a little more greasy than I prefer, which then soaked into the bread. Not the end of the world but the reason for the 3 star rating. Fairly average Greek food. Update: Recently try the Kafta Kabob as well and again, nothing remarkable... but this place fills the need when craving Greek food in a laid back family run cafe. read more

BYOB - I love it!! What could be better? How about THE freshest food served in a cozy, family style place? The Mazza plate is a great sampler dish, we had get a second order of pita bread to sop up all the goodness. I had the Greek Salad, which is huge and very good, not too much dressing, good feta and really nice crisp veggies. Yum! Also had the Kebab Sampler, highly recommend it, good grilled veggies and rice on the side. This is a very relaxed place with a good feel. It does not look like much on the outside but it's clean and I don't always want to pay for the posh interior of a restaurant. This is the most reasonably priced Mediterranean restaurant I have visited in Dallas and when you add in the $avings of bringing your own booze, it makes it downright cheap for the quality of the food. read more
