A beachside cafe on the sand is everything I didn't know I needed here in LA/OC. It's such a great chill spot, plenty of parking, just steps away from the Pacific Ocean. They have corn hole, giant Jenga, a climbing park right next to it. So it's an amazing spot for families and even the pups (they offer unseasoned grilled beef patties!) I got the tofu banh mi with a side salad and a machaca breakfast burrito. Surprisingly, the food was actually pretty impressive, half of me was expecting beach shack quality. The food does take a bit to come out, but it's not fast food here. They serve alcohol, have vegan options, breakfast all day. Saltwater deck is an awesome, scenic spot right on the beach. You won't find it by driving on the street but you will stumble upon it if you're walking on the strand. I came here to take part in a beach clean up they sponsor every 4th Saturday of the month. Monica & her partner work with Saltwater Deck to host this event and they provide free coffee after. It's awesome to see a small shop like this sponsor a beach clean up! One thing to note; Tables are in the sand so don't expect anything too fancy here. Great spot and a huge improvement from the last beach stand that was there. The only thing I've had here is the breakfast burrito, which is pretty phenomenal. I'd say top 5 in Long Beach for sure. They also sell alcohol now which is a beer and wine selection, including mimosas with your breakfast. The prices are a bit steep, but that's expected for beachside dining. Oh no! Went from the best vegan breakfast burrito I've ever had to mushy bland and nasty! It used to be spicy and delicious! Perfect amount of baked potato chunks, cilantro, vegan soyrizo and vegan cheese, they must've changed the vegan "meat/soyrizo" to a different brand with no flavor, but also way too much vegan cheese (also bland) one tiny piece of cilantro, and somehow they managed to make the potatoes taste bad too, even their salsa, which I loved, was spicy and delicious is now mild. Awesome spot right on the beach! Love having my feet in the sand on a beautiful day while sipping a cold beer. Excellent service and atmosphere. Always perfect music to put you in a chill mood. Had the taco box one day and the tacos were delicious. Grass fed beef with onions and cilantro. I personally would've preferred more onions, but I'm just a huge raw onion fan. Salsa was nice and spicy. Great place to sit for lunch or to just grab a beer or mimosa and relax. This place just opened up right on the beach and it's a great place to get a wrap, sandwich, ice cream, coffee, snack, etc while adventuring around the beach. I went for an afternoon jog and grabbed some food afterward. I got the tuna poke salad, which was delicious and fresh! My dining partner shared a tofu banh mi sandwich, which was so delicious and full of fantastic marinades. I also had a few hot coffees. Service was friendly and you can't beat the beach views. The food is terrific! I'm a little bummed they stopped serving ice cream (they now have a couple flavors of Italian Ice). But a strong caveat: you cannot trust their posted hours for being open! They currently show being closed on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I almost always call ahead now to confirm they're actually open. Today (Oct 19, Sunday) the website showed the green 'open' and I did NOT call. Walked all the way down there, only to find them closed! Very frustrating. So especially if you're meeting someone there, CALL AHEAD to see if they're actually open. Also, they do seem to be closed most holidays, even July 4. Great place to get hot food when at the beach. We decided to spend a bit of time at the nearest beach, so drove down to Junipero Beach and set-up our chairs right in the wet sand, taking advantage of low tide. We passed by park building on the way, which houses Saltwater Deck. After reading our books for a bit, we got hungry...so I wandered over to see what their menu was like and place an order. You place and pay for your order through a glass window. Once the food is ready, they will call out your name via a loud intercom, at which point you would pick up your food. They cordoned off a small area in the sand right next to the building, nad set-up plastic tables and chairs so you can eat right there, with your feet in the sand, enjoying the views into DTLA and the ocean. It took a bit of time (15 minutes or so) for our food to be ready. Two entrees were ordered, and both had been expertly packaged in to-go boxes. It was a snap to take the food back to our beach chairs Grass-fed Cheeseburger ($13.45) was ordered with just cheese and lettuce (and secret sauce on the side), and came with kettle chips (came from a bag). It came on a telera roll, and it did taste very fresh...great choice for a burger. The meat was thin, but very tastey...the lettuce was crunchy romaine...an excellent burger. Next time, I might ask for the toppings on the side...guessing the burger really becomes a backyard burger then. We also ordered Beach Chicken Quesadilla ($12.75), and it came as 4 solid pieces, stuffed with white meat chicken and a lot of cheese. I chose to have pepperoncini in it...its juices permeated the entire wrap...I loved the spicy vinegary taste, the wife did not. It was a substantial amount of food, so I ended up saving half of it. It's a really good quesadilla, better base than what most restaurants have. It came with a really good salsa, a bit hot with smokiness from chipotle. Wish I could have added guacamole and crema. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate this time so we ended up leaving after we ate. As we walked back, we noticed some more people were placing orders and/or waiting. That's a really good sign...even on a cold day like today, the Deck still has customers. Can't wait for the summer...with the better weather, hoping this place gets really hopping (they have various ice cream flavors and sell beer as well). They deserve it. read more

The food was fantastic, the service was fast and great, tables are right in the sand and it has amazing views - what more could you ask for? We had the vegan burrito - this is in the top three best breakfast burritos I have ever had, vegan or non-vegan. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was delicious. If you need a place to eat that is literally on the beach, then this is your spot. You will be sitting on chairs directly in the sand. Beyond that, this place does have pretty good food. It is made to order, so you're not getting something that has been sitting out. As their sign says, "We make good food as fast as we can." For us, this was about 15 minutes. We ordered a Breakfast Burrito and Pastrami Sandwich. The Pastrami Sandwich was doused with a bit too much mustard. My husband who loves mustard even thought it was overpowering. While the Breakfast Burrito was solid, I would have loved a bit more of a wow factor. Special sauce or something could really take it to another level! read more

I'd been hearing buzz about this place since they opened, and for good reason - you can't beat the view, being literally picnic tables right on the beach. I've now been there twice - funny enough, both times for a burger, cause sometimes, you just really want to eat a burger right on the beach. Everyone there has been great, food's always come out pretty quickly (exactly as quickly as you'd expect for them to make a burger fresh), and again, I can't stress enough the location. If you need a place to take out-of-towners to really impress them without completely breaking the bank... this is probably the first place that'd come to mind. To be clear, burger-wise, their burger is a great burger, but it's not fancy or elaborate, it's just a well made burger, good meat on a good bun. For the price, I could name multiple better burgers in Long Beach - you could make a similar burger at home easily enough, too, for a lot cheaper. Obviously the difference between Saltwater Deck and any other burger place in Long Beach, though, or for that matter, from your own kitchen, is: nowhere else are you going to get a great burger, made fresh to order, and get to eat it while it's still hot, right on the sand, enjoying the fact that we live right on the coast and we're spoiled by LA weather always being so nice! The burger also comes with a side salad, which again, is also just a side salad. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing fancy, either. I do strongly recommend asking for a side of pickled jalapenos, though - I believe everything's pickled in-house (they're solid), and it definitely spruced up both the burger and, especially, the salad. Overall, it was a totally enjoyable meal, just wouldn't have necessarily been worth the price if it *weren't* right on the water. Anyway, I was here the first time a few months ago, just never got around to reviewing it. A couple weeks ago, though, they posted something that pulled me right back immediately - a post heavily implying that they not only allow, but *encourage* substitutions (the post described a burger with pickled onions and chipotle mayo, which also sounds great), and it gave me a great idea. That Friday, I popped back in and tried it, and I was very right, so allow me to recommend a fantastic *off-menu* burger I tried a couple weeks ago: a banh mi burger. Specifically, the regular grass-fed cheeseburger, no tomato, add pickled jalapenos (obviously), also add pickled carrots and daikon from their vegan banh mi, *now* you've got a burger that can compete with, say, Sideburns. (Though Sideburns definitely wins on drinks - one thing I definitely miss here, though I'm sure it's for legal reasons given the location, is the lack of drink options, by which I mostly mean beer.) It was an extra 75 cents for the addition, which was totally worth it. So now I have a new tied-for-favorite burger concept, a whole range of off-menu burger ideas to try... and *eventually* maybe I'll actually try something else on the menu that isn't a burger, too (their breakfast burritos look pretty legit, especially.) Still wish they could sell craft beer, though. read more

Let's keep yelp real!!! I've enjoyed many a breakfast burrito and black coffee here. One of my favorite spots in all of Long Beach. Honestly, can you beat eating on the beach? The answer is NO! There's seating on the sand, good music playing, and plenty of people watching to do. This review is for the breakfast burrito. It is just a well crafted burrito. A little more expensive than I was used to and takes a little long to make but honestly its worth the price and the time. You can tell they take pride in making each one. The burgers are good here. They have a unique blend of flavors. Grass fed beef tasted good. Thousand island sauce, cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomato were good. The bread was different kind of like a dinner roll. The chips are really good and salty. It was almost $50 for 2 burgers with chips and fountain drinks. They also ask for a tip at the end with the iPad payment system. They have seating outside beach front. I ended up bringing my own foldable chairs and a beach umbrella and sitting near the shore and that was nice. Went around noon on a Monday and it wasn't busy. Prices for lunch-type items are in the $11-$14 range which is not bad based on where you are at the time. While out for our daily walk, my Sista and I heard the bump bump bump of good sound system lol We made our way to the quaint little spot with bright colored chairs in the sand and found a visibly clean and shiny new eatery. I ordered the ever popular Breakfast burrito and would definitely order it again. It had thick-cut bacon, seasoned potato & fried eggs with gooey melted cheese as you can see in my photo. *try not to salivate too much* My mom enjoyed her Philly cheesesteak accompanied with mixed greens & caesar dressing. My boyfriend liked his pastrami, too. Both of the sandwiches came on telera rolls with the option for kettle chips or mixed greens. For dessert, they have soft serve ice cream in various flavors which I'm sure will be a hit by the beach and all. Came here last Friday for breakfast after hearing about it all over social media. They also have other things like burgers, salads and sandwiches if you come for lunch. Parking is free before 8am on the beach parking lot, but still cheap afterwards. How it works is you order your food at the window and pick it up when it's ready. They have plenty of tables set up outside on the sand and it's a really nice view of the beach. I ordered the pastrami egg sandwich with mustard and it was pretty good.
