    Olives

Our first time here , very nice and modern decor, we were greeted and seated, they have seasonal menu for summer and great selection. We ordered several dishes, olives, cream corn and onion rings, flat bread and shrimp. All excellent dishes, tasty as well seasoned. For the kill we ordered the peach cream ( a must) . They also have a wide selection of wines and beers. This is neighborhood gem. Be sure to check it out

"Food, service, and ambiance -- this bistro has it all. Tucked away in this quaint Long Beach neighborhood, it feels like a little slice of Italy. I've been several times now, and it never disappoints. The food is rich and savory, the service is consistently impeccable, and the atmosphere transports you straight to a cozy European bistro. I absolutely love this place

The empty lighted patio that we could not use even though we had a reservation.

First, I have been wanting to try this place since we moved down the street last year. My boyfriend made a reservation for tonight (Valentine's Day) and we arrived about 5 minutes early. We walked in and there was no hostess or anyone to greet you and no apparent place to "check-in". So we are standing near the "bar" area waiting for someone to acknowledge us and instantly we are met by one server after another telling us we are " In the way."  After moving around multiple times we sit at an empty 'reserved' table temporarily and someone finally comes up to us. He looks up our reservation, confirms it, and then says that we have to sit in the middle of a very long table, on opposite sides, surrounded by two other large parties of 6-8 people. The outdoor patio was completely empty, so we ask if we can sit out there instead and he tells us "No". Apparently they did not have a server that could go out there 3-4 times. Honestly, we were treated like an unwelcomed nuisance by all staff members. It was pretty shocking and insulting, as you you would receive better treatment when walking into a Denny's off the street. Suffice it to say, that I no longer have the desire to go there ever again. Luckily, Lacquered (a block down the street) was able to save the night by making us feel welcomed as soon as we walked through the door. The food was absolutely fantastic and we will continue to spend our money with a small business that understands and practices great customer service. My advice is go to Lacquered instead.

Welcome back! If I could give more stars I would. The pace of service was exceptional. The owner was courteous and very warm and welcoming. It felt as if he was welcoming you into his home. You could feel the love and passion in the place. We enjoyed the half charcuterie, Caesar salad, the pasta and the steak and frites as well as the peaches and cream for dessert. Just when we thought it couldn't get more delicious the next item was even better. We forgot to take photos of the entrees because we were that excited to try them. We also loved the wine selection. We are so excited to come back again.

Welcome back Taste WBK! We were pre pandemic frequenters, and they have not missed a beat. Fresh, robust flavors and textures, great service, comfy space. Burrata & Heirloom Tomato and the Summer Bucatini Pasta were our fav's. Diverse wine by the glass list. Looking forward to our next visit.

Taste seems to be boarded up (stylishly) and opened for very limited hours on Wednesdays from 5p.m. to 9p.m. They are under the same management as Olives from whence our sandwiches were enjoyed. We ate on their multipurpose outside seating area. When we initially inquired re Taste Wine-Beer-Kitchen's status, we were told "we're one and the same". Which is true but we were given a strictly sandwich menu. Many varieties of sandwiches are available and they do a thriving business. I found the Olive "Melt" patty panini disappointing. Pleasant texture but bland, devoid of flavor, no cheddar cheese, scant sautéed onions as listed as ingredients on the menu. I tasted no seasoning. Way too busy to expect any alterations performed on said sandwich. The Cubano, on the other hand was delicious. Perhaps the pickle's starring role made it five star. Prime location for some good doggy watching.

It only took us 3 years to get here to try the Wednesday only fish & chips. We walked in around opening and although there are only a handful of 2- or 4-seater tables, one long group table and one tabling lining the storefront window, only a few seats were occupied. Since Taste is only open 4 hours a day and is owned by the same people who run the superb but tiny Olives grocer next door, there's a certain intimacy of visiting this tiny and extremely local gourmet ecosystem, especially for my Mom and me who aren't big dinner eaters. Anthony, who you'll read mentioned in many reviews, served us and he was sweet enough to make my shy mother comfortable enough to ask him questions about the restaurant. He is awesome and I don't know how he stays thin working for a place like this! He brought us 2 planks of fish & chips piping hot with 2 glasses of Tempranillo. Wine was okay but the fries (LOVE) and beer battered cod (LOVE) found a place in our hearts. Maybe literally and figuratively, but totally worth it. Even though my Mom doesn't care for spicy she cleaned the tiny dip bowl of jalapeno sauce with her fish. They torch the lemon somehow so you can just about pour it on your food without squeezing. Only $14 in 2019 for the fish and, again, only one day a week. It's only one serving for a hungry eater, but two if you're me, and don't really do dinner. Come, indulge. I'm looking forward to returning.

Tempura cauliflower with sweet Korean chile sauce

I decided to come here on a Saturday night when my original choice for restaurant was all booked up. I of course headed straight to yelp to see what other restaurants in my area were worthy of checking out. I called and a lovely lady that answered the phone said she would help me by reserving a bar seat if I was able to come in the next hour. The menu is simple, but refreshingly so, because it was one of those days where I waited all day to eat and I just wanted some comfort food. Some of the standouts for me were definitely the crispy mashed potato cakes, the tempura cauliflower and the taste burger. Being a hot wing lover, I definitely appreciated the tempura cauliflower in a nice spicy Korean chile sauce as a guilt free alternative.

My wife had bought an online special offer that had us try this cool wine bar out. The owner, Theodore, personally brought over each of the four flights of wines that were part of the special. He described the variety, and was super gracious in asking us how we liked each offering. The food was outstanding! Hands-down, one of the best beef carpaccio's that we have had in all of the Long Beach and surrounding areas. Instead of a paper-thin slice like many other locations, it was a more generous slice that still melted in your mouth with a few delicate bites. The goat cheese Brie was delightful. As well as the garlic, red-wine basted escargot. We also enjoyed the bruschetta which was yummy and had a very nice mashed tomato jelly on top of the cheese spread. If you're looking for a nice date night spot for Valentines, or to relax and enjoy a casual ambience for a connected conversation, I absolutely recommend going to Wine on 2nd. We have tried other wine bars from the Wilmore on Atlantic, to the boulangerie on Main Street in Seal Beach, as well as the wine bars in downtown Long Beach, and this one definitely places itself as one of the better wine bars you should absolutely try. Thank you Theodore!

Located off the fun Retro Row on Fourth St. with the last Friday event happening, we noticed a good amount of people walking in and there was a security guard out front. The crowd was lively so it must be good. First off, I was totally surprised about this place. It's a pretty nice spot. There's the main bar right along one wall that offered both wine and beer. There was also a corner that hosted a live band. When we arrived, no one was playing yet. The crowd seemed to be more of the younger hipster vibe. A completely different crowd from the LA scenes. Getting a drink wasn't that bad even though it was busy. I happened to get lucky when someone moved from the bar stool for me to approach. I was a little surprised when the wine I ordered was in a box...lol... I mean, it was whatever. Some options were for a glass only or for both a glass or bottle. But when it came to checking out, tipping options went from 20 25 percent to 30 percent. Wasn't used to that as an option as it's not like you're dinning in. Anyway, the surprise was when we walked out and seen that they had a massive back patio. It was hard finding a seat as it was packed. There was also a food trunk on deck but wasn't sure what they were serving. We noticed people with hotdogs and someone with a box of pizza. Not sure if it's from the vendor or if you're allowed outside food in. The vibe was fun, the crowd was lively and everyone there for a good time. It's more of a younger scene. I'm not sure how often they have performances weekly but tonight was a major one with the event happening on the last Friday.
