I went here to find a new place to drink near my new place. It's still a drive from me but, I'm happy to always visit new bars. This one serves beers, wines and trulys. It's cash only but they have an ATM. I took my brother there for helping me move big stuff. We also had my nephew along with us and he was okay to be there. They have a nice shuffleboard and plenty beers on tap. Most stuff is in the fridge and the bar girl was nice. Met some of the regulars so it's a good vibe. read more

We've lived in this area for over 4 years and never stopped by the Annex before! I'm so glad we were convinced to. Was always a little intimidated by the place for some reason because of the curtain kinda hiding what the inside looked like. It was my husband's birthday yesterday and we first went over to Blondies however he said he was calling it a night and went home. Myself and 7 other family members walked over to The Annex. The moment you walk in, you can tell everyone there is a regular. Bartender was so sweet and got our drink order. My SIL, cousin and I started to strike up a conversation with the regulars next to us. I think one briefly mentioned Blondies and we were like oh we just came from there! We talked about sports and then one had his cousin from Scotland there and the conversation just flowed. We truly felt so welcomed. I wish i remembered all their names but I am just terrible with those things! If you guys see this, I'm so sorry haha but thank you so much for your kindness and telling us your stories! As we left, we all hugged these awesome strangers. It was really really cool. Btw -- it's a beer bar, cash only. The place is dim and very long. The whole center is the bar/seating area which was kinda cool. The way it's set up it's as if it forces you to have conversations with others. There's also a shuffle board table. Very cozy hole in the wall. I've came here three times now and it's an extremely cool place just to sit and have a beer and relax. The atmosphere is welcoming, bartender gives you space or talks to you if you want. There's a juke box and a table. And the COLDEST beer I've EVER had. And Lemme tell you, I've been to a lot of bars/brewery's. They do NOT sell liquor, and have very few beers on tap, but It's totally worth stopping by and relaxing with friends. read more

This place used to be alright I liked this one girl who was usually here friday nights she was really personable and easy to talk to. Idk who the chick was that was there last night (3/26/2021) but she was straight rude and unprofessional. My group just ended up leaving because this chick was too busy socializing with this one table and taking selfies with them. She was wearing these oversized hoops and I'm pretty sure her top was see through, a bit classless and in poor taste but sure. She would roll her eyes if you tried to call her over and if you werent some guy she definitely wasnt paying attention to you. Beer The shuffleboard takes up 1/3 of the small windowless bar. It is the centerpiece of the room. It's full sized, free to use, and usually available to play on. In the evenings, I've run into the same older men time and again. It's a locals-only type of a vibe. The guys however are unusually friendly, and always up for making conversation or partnering up for a 2 on 2. I feel like this is actually a reason to add a #3. The patrons of the Annex are loyal, engaging and truly friendly. Beer: The beer is beer. It's cheaper in the largest glasses. That's the tip on the beer. Don't buy the pint. Well, lady who did nothing, I was there in the night in question and I saw her runver the curb and almost clock the building. I guess it's closed down. Kenny? What happen? For the record it is I, yes, ME, who created the four pucks in one shot for eights. Over 35yrs ago. Robin Nelson, Dick Hale, Lucy, PeeWee (Steve) all witness. All gone. Memories live on and that's the Annex people should remember. It was the smoking law that killed The Annex. I came here with my significant other for the first time. Very few options for beers, and there is no liquor. A man on the other side of the bar who was clearly very intoxicated began to verbally harass us, and the bartender did not do a single thing to stop him or kick him out due to the simple fact that he was a "regular." Extremely hostile and awkward environment due to this man, and the complacent bartender who did nothing to bring order to the bar did not help. Hold on, Hold on.......I don't believe my eyes reading these reviews. The Annex is Joe Josts after the apocalypse. I can just picture some poor bastard driving all the way from the OC to find a "cool Long Beach dive bar" and then walking into this boring hallway of a crap hole. I live two blocks away and I stopped coming here after falling asleep on the counter everytime. True, there are lots of large tv's and a shuffleboard (thumb up), and the beer is insanely cold (thumbs up) and it comes inexpensive in a wonderfully large schooner (two thumbs up)....but let's face it, that's it; there is not even a front door. There's a blanket or something dangling. This place should be off a lonely highway in the Saltan Sea on the way to nowhere. Instead its on the corner of Lakewood and Sterns in between a new-age witchcraft store and an forever closing down furniture store. Oh yeah, there is only a few types of beer. Besides the very nice ladies who work there, I have never seen a girl in this place. Enjoy lonely old fellas, enjoy. So why 2 stars, instead of 1....because I will probably end up there tonight when my cable goes out and its standing room only at Blondies across the street. Better divebars in the LBC include the 36/36, the Reno Room, and V-Room. read more
