Ruven's is a really good deli in Del Ray. They have great sandwiches and soup. I had a french dip sandwich and really enjoyed it. They are a little over-priced and our waitress wasn't very friendly. Their decor is terrific, with a brick wall and a woman painted as if she was leaning out and calling "yoo-hoo Mrs. Bloom". It's very clever and they have several other similar paintings pretending as if they are in a New York neighborhood. It's great. what happened to Ruvens? We have been going there for almost 4 years now and raving about this close to real New York deli but lately its changed and for the worst. First our friend went there about a month ago and told us how bad it was which we could not believe so we went there on Nov. 10th to order our thanksgiving package because we did it 2 years ago and it was great. then on Nov 12th we decided to eat there. We ordered the mushroom barley soup only to get it burnt and tasted like it was a carry over from the weekend. we sent it back and ordered other soups. EH, so what. I had a pastrami on rye which was tough and very fatty and my wife ordered corn beef on rye and got a mixture of that and pastrami.I seriously hope they get to the bottom of these problems or we won't go back read more

it's sad what's been happening to Ruven's, which was long one of my family's favorite local Jewish-style delis. My mother and uncle grew up in a Jewish deli in Brooklyn, so we have pretty high standards, and while the service here has always been just fair-to-middling, the good food always seemed to overcome whatever minor service problems we had. Until recently, that is. We went in last night, motivated in part by the fact that it was one of the nights when split-pea soup is among the soups du jour. We arrived at about 6:30; the place was packed with snowbirds (it's peak season around here, after all). So on the one hand, slower-than-usual service might be forgiven, but on the other hand, EVERYONE knows that this is peak season - everyone, apparently, except Ruven's management First disappointment was the pea soup.. we'd called before leaving to make sure they had pea soup (yes, they did), but after our orders were taken, the waitress returned to tell us we had to choose something else because they'd run out. ("It's very popular", she said.. "we usually run out of it".. MEMO TO MANAGEMENT: if you're running out of a popular item every night before the dinner rush is over, you aren't making enough of it!) Then there was the turkey. The turkey here used to be Thanksgiving-quality, to-die-for yummy.. but the turkey I had last night tasted more like a bird they found dead on the side of the road. Anticipating that the white meat might be dried out (it shouldn't be - they should never serve it that way), I decided to order the dark meat platter, but when my meal came, white meat was what was on my plate. Ok... well.. worth tasting, right? But no -- it was totally dried out and devoid of flavor.. "Waitress!! This isn't dark meat!" - well, she said, they'd run out of dark meat.. but she apparently hadn't seen any reason to apologize for the substitution when she served it, or even ask if I wanted something different from what I'd ordered. I was not amused. Ok, no problem, sir - we'll bring you whatever you want... I ordered brisket.. which wound up being even more dried out than the turkey. My uncle, meanwhile, had ordered a corned beef sandwich... he said it was inedible. Yecch. By this time we had asked the waitress to bring over the manager not once but twice - no manager ever showed up. Maybe there IS no manager - we certainly saw no evidence that anyone is actually managing this place. (And maybe when your restaurant is packed with tourists every night you don't have to worry about the quality of your food or about decent customer service. At least that's the impression we got..) Kelly is the BEST server and truly deserves not only a raise but an academy award for putting up with some of the most disrespectful, and down right nasty, customers! This traditional NY Deli has everything and more in regards to what you miss from back home! Prices are fair, and food is delicious. We searched for Ruven's after hearing they had a deli in nearby Del Ray Beach. Word of mouth did not disappoint. I was hungry and ordered a Turkey Club on toasted white. While we waited for our order, cole slaw and pickles were served. The slaw is delicious and I had a new pickle, which I've always preferred. The sour pickles are too strong on the vinegar. My club sandwich was great! The turkey was not the pressed kind sliced off a turkey roll with lots of preservatives and poor taste. They called it carved turkey. Whatever, it was good! And bacon and very flavorful tomatoes. My wife enjoyed her vegetable wrap. She said it was good and we could come again. Such praise. It wasn't crowded and just past noon on a Thursday in July. And I would say service was exceptable. I loved the decor! One wall was painted to look like the city walls of New York and the adjoining back wall was old New York. Atmosphere and good food. There are a lot of delis in South Florida. I've probably tried them all and each have their ups and downs. Ruvens doesn't really have any ups and I would stay far away. Many people know of Ruvens because they run some of the cafes at local community clubhouses. At our community they are the vendor and although it's not great, it isn't awful. This review is about their actual restaurant and not the clubhouse cafe though. Ours was shut down for construction and therefore we had funds on our account that had to be used at the restaurant. We had several previous bad experiences at this place but went in hoping things had improved. One time the food was literally inedible after sending it back twice and after complaining we were nickel and dimed about the included side dishes "that we ate". The manager (i believe owner) had an awful attitude as does the blond manager hostess woman. If I wanted attitude with my meal I would have gone to Flakowitz where at least the food is good. My most recent issue occurred when I ordered off the large menu on the wall at the deli. When I was rung up the total was higher than advertised. They blew off my complaint by saying "they hadn't updated the menu yet" They were not willing to honor the price until I threatened to walk out. Instead of apologizing they told me "next time you will have to pay regular price" This is a classic example of a poorly run restaurant and there was no next time for me until now. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. We were given a TINY table in the middle of the restaurant. We asked for a booth but were told they are for larger parties. We watched as a party of 2 was seated there right afterwards. Service started off fine, we were given complimentary pickles, rye bread and cole slaw. They also provided water for the table. Our server was a nice guy although a bit hard to understand. I did notice the fork had only 3 tines, which is a seafood fork. It was the cheapest quality and not a full size fork. No big deal but is an indication of how this place is run. I ordered the turkey dinner. It came with a salad which didn't have much in it. It was particularly wet and the dressing was awful. The turkey itself was fine but the rest was just meh. I asked for carrots and peas and was given cold broccoli and green beans. The mashed potatoes were fine but didn't have much flavor. The gravy was just okay. It was a large plate of food, but nothing was particularly good. I ordered a coke and would swear it was diet, but a replacement wasn't any better. The dinner includes desert, although we had to ask to receive it. I asked for the blueberry crumb cake which I think was actually raspberry. Regardless, I didn't eat it as it had some weird smells to it. I suspect its stored with other food and it just absorbed them like a sponge. My companion ordered latkes as both sides that were included with the meal. When their food arrived it only came with 1 and we had to ask for the second. When it finally arrived, it was 2 lumps of greasy potato and didn't even resemble the first one. If you are looking for quantity over quality then this could possibly be a place for you although at $19, my dinner wasn't exactly cheap. I also don't think this restaurant is particularly clean. Just peek in the display case and you will probably walk back out the door. I've seen it a few times and it looks like its never cleaned. This day there were pools of blood and liquid under the roast beef. It was disgusting. The last county inspection had 13 violations and the previous ones were even worse including one showing 32 violations. Look for yourself! After arriving home it was a race to the bathroom for the rest of the night for both of us. I won't go as far as saying I had food poisoning but the food didn't agree with either of us. We enjoyed an authentic New York delicatessen experience here. We started with the pea soup which was very tasty. Next we enjoyed our sautéed onions and Gruyere cheese and hamburger on grilled rye bread. The best part were the real potatoes home fires on the side. Clearly made in house with fresh potatoes rather than frozen. The roasted turkey leg was a disappointment in that is was reheated in a mich which left the meat with a rubbery texture. We just came from having lunch or you might say early dinner at Ruvens Resturant. I have a pastrami sandwich which was absolutely delicious! And my wife had corn beef with chopped liver then she loved her sandwich also. The problem that we encountered is this something that will allow us to return to this restaurant. The waiter was so rude to us! That I was prompted to go to the manager or owner. By going to the owner I only received more misery! So in summary, I only recommend the food in this restaurant be purchased to go! We've been here before and it was just the same. So even though they have ample seating, just grab your food and run! Wife and I have been going to Ruven's for breakfast off and on for many years. On occasion we have put it on our "list" of places to avoid because of food being inconsistent but we would go back because of its convenience to our home. Today is our last visit. Ok so this is our first time here. The atmosphere is so cool. The art work makes you feel like you're in NY and in a different time. That being said, the waitress was lovely, the food was good. I never thought I'd say what I'm about to say ever, I have a huge sweet tooth and the Blintzes were too sweet for me. Unheard of but there it is and no matter what you get on it is a $1 extra which I guess I misunderstood what it read on the menu. They ran out of Hot Chocolate, which is my treat for Sunday Brunch. This was the most uneatable meal I have every had in a deli, We started with chicken ball soup, the soup was sour, then we had ordered, brisket, which was cold and dry. The corner of the brisket was black like he had been cooked several times, the barley and mushrooms, where a rock and cold. Presentation was like school dinner, just slapped on the plate. We didn't eat the meal it was that bad , it was on a Monday night, my feeling is that it was left over from the weekend. not fresh at all. the waitress never asked why we had left all the food on the plate. my biggest concern is that majority of the clients are over 55 , if the food is old and left out to dry, they can get very sick. Went to this establishment to grab a quick take out lunch that was slightly inexpensive. I went in at an off time so I thought I'd be in and out quick. I must've had at least 15 employees walk past me with nothing in their hand before I was acknowledged at the take out counter. The menu board said they changed their prices but hadn't posted them. We held a Funeral Luncheon today for around 50 of our fathers friends & family. The Ruven's staff, food & atmosphere were all perfect. The price was very reasonable. This has gone from bad to worse. First the board says $7.75 for a half pound of turkey. You order it and get charged $10.95. You argue and they say "too bad". Second time in to sit. They do have good food but place not so clean, terrible owner. Ordered catering, 14 lb turkey dinner w/trimmings & stuffed cabbage. for 12 people. was over charged & given less then ordered. When I got home & unpacked there were 4 cabbage rolls, 1/2 lb containers of sides. Turkey was actually more like the size of a capon then 14lb turkey ordered. Called Owner, he was obnoxious & couldn't care less about problem. He actually stated that the bird shrinks when cooked. That 4 cabbage rolls were all you get for 12 people & sides were adequate. This is our second lunch in three days as part of a visit to the 90 year old walker set (parents). First time we sat inside, service was prompt and efficient. Second we sat outside at a small 3 table setup overlooking the parking lot. As we were the only people there, it took some time to be served. Corned beef and Pastrami were the reasons we were there, and both times they were very good. Sandwiches came with a shared bowl of excellent cole slaw and a plate of equally good pickles. We ordered a Thanksgiving meal for two this year of Covid. We were given the time of 12 noon on Thanksgiving day to pick up the order. When we got there at 12, there was a huge line outside in the sun of folks trying to pick up their dinner. It took 35 minutes to pick up a dinner, that was already paid for. I could have overlooked the pickup problems, but cannot overlook how bad the food was. We ordered one turkey, and one brisket. Both meats were sliced paper thin, packed dry on a foam tray. A container of one gravy, for both meats. The sweet potato container had 4-5 pieces of canned sweet potato in the liquid it came from the can. The rest of the meal, mashed potatoes, stuffing , green beans was barely acceptable. I've heard from others in our community who ordered from Ruven and had the same experience. Obviously, this restaurant couldn't handle the amount of orders they received. Will never order from there again. read more

In addition, the chaotic, unorganized schedule for picking up for Thanksgiving was awful - the women getting the orders to bring to the customers were unbelievably rude in the way they spoke to customers.
