Ruven's is under new management so I decided to give it another shot. Let's start with service, our server really did not want to be there. She took her time to take our order, was slow to respond to our requests. From entering to leaving she never cracked a smile with no thank you for amore than generous tip. As to the food, it was acceptable but did not make me want to come back again. I must say this is the first time we've been in this restaurant I saw a sign inside that says 1930. I wasn't around in 1930 but it actually felt like I was in 1930 with the clientele and the food. We had an open face turkey sandwich it came with a little bit of cranberries and aside of gravy and pickles and coleslaw. And you had a choice of salad or soup the lentil soup I was told was It was good. I had a tuna salad wrap with walnuts and cranberries. That was also good the turkey open face came with dessert so we got a little piece of rugala . We were nine people & wanted separate checks This was at about two o'clock restaurant was pretty empty & they could seem to accommodate us. Wouldn't recommend. Top NYC style deli. Up there with 2nd Ave. Deli and the old Carnegie Deli. The Corned Beef and Pastrami melt in your mouth with a juicy tenderness to die for. Having grown up in the Bronx in the golden days of Jewish traditional deli's, I find the food in Ruven's a trip worth taking not only to a place to eat but also a place to bring back memories when a Corned beef or Pastrami sandwich evoked tradition and wonderful memories of great food and service. read more

Brought my wife for dinner tonight at Ruven's. When we got in, it was packed with customers. We gave our name to the hostess, and 15 minutes later we sat in a comfortable booth. As soon as we sat down, a gentleman brought a few pickles and some homemade creamy coleslaw. My wife ordered the grilled steer liver and I ordered the pastrami on club. Our server Meghan was efficient and professional. It was a first for my wife, and she really enjoyed her dish especially the mushroom barley soup. We are moving soon to Port St. Lucie and we're going to miss the food of Ruven's. We'll figure out a way to come back to the restaurant that's for sure. read more

Good news, Bad news. Ruven's continues to give copious portions of well prepared comfort food at reasonable prices. 5 stars so far. The problem is that it seems grossly understaffed. One bus person for the entire restaurant. Last nite I counted two waitresses (although the owner tries to help). Last night it took 25 min to place our drink orders. The wait staff is pleasant but really overworked. I think part of the problem is that diners come in waves. At 7:00 PM on a Thursday evening all the tables were filled. By 8:30 PM (Boca Midnight) the place was only mostly empty. Despite the frustration, we will return. read more

Hidden in a Publix shopping center is Long Island style deli. The average age appeared to be 100. I ordered chicken soup to go. It was as prepared quickly & was the he going price. Like trying to dine in a loud construction site. Just feet away from diners the staff were hammering, drilling, and yelling at each other. Very inconsiderate. The manager injured his hand while moving a heavy box and screamed at his employees in front of everyone. I'm not sure how they can even begin to call themselves a New York deli or try to even pretend they are a real deli or that anyone there has ever been to New York. First, my husband orders a panini. First the counter/cashier/greeter guy behind a small, teeny tiny counter (not a deli) gets something from the freezer, microwaves it and then puts it in the panini maker. I've never seen him gag that much from disgust after he took his first bite, or throw out a sandwich so fast, after he attempted a second bite. (We did take out and were already home, so there was no sending it back.) I ordered a New York bagel with "lots of cream cheese" and lox. Okay ... So, it's basically the bagel equivalent of what you might find in any cheap bodega/"deli"/grocery. Not very big. Not at all New York, and not very fresh. The "lots of cream cheese" was literally two of those .75 oz. Original Cream Cheese Spread Portion Cups that they give you in airports or bodega/"delis" that barely spread a tiny thin layer of "cream cheese" on the bagel with a few tiny slices of onion and a piece of lox for over $20. I can usually fake my way throw most bagels. But it wasn't lightly toasted or toasted at all like I asked, was disgustingly not fresh (the bagel) and I ended up throwing it away. That said, the cup or ice water I ordered was cold and delish. Hence the one star. I wish I could leave zero stars because this was a zero star restaurant. Their business is mostly derived clearly from elderly residents who happen to be in that shopping center going to a doctor's appointment (which my parents were doing when we went to grab a bite) and have no other dining options besides an Italian restaurant at the other end. This is offensive to New York, to New Yorkers, to anyone with any sense of taste and any person who like food. How they are still in business is mind boggling. Oh, by the way, don't ask any of the wait staff to get you a glass of water while you wait for your expensive, over priced and unedible food. Despite the three tables seated, they can't be bothered. I found this deli while on my way home from a Doctor's Appointment. Ruven's is a clean, modern delicatessen that smells wonderful as soon as you enter. I ordered a Pastrami on Rye with a side of Cole Slaw and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda. My lunch was delicious. The Pastrami was nice & lean, and the Cole Saw was fresh & crunchy. The best thing about delicatessens is their extensive & varied menu. The worst thing about deli' is their overwhelming menu. How to choose? While perusing the huge menu, you can enjoy a starter of creamy cole slaw and a variety of pickles, which are served right away to whet your appetite. Ruven's makes dinner selection easy by offering a complete meal of their "favorites", which includes an appetizer, drink, entree, and dessert. The meals are large enough for sharing, especially when accompanied by the app and dessert. These meals are the best value on the menu. However, only about a dozen entrees are available with this deal, and deli meat sandwiches are not among them. We had a large group 10 people for dinner, and overall the food was very good. A few couples split the turkey dinner with stuffing and a choice of sides. I had the chicken soup in a pot, which literally comes in a covered metal pot. It contained a 1/2 boiled chicken along with a fluffy matzoh ball, noodles and carrots. I was surprised to see that the chicken was still on the bone, and I didn't enjoy having to pick apart the chicken while trying to eat the soup. The chicken and soup were fairly bland and could have used additional seasoning. The matzoh ball was superb though. A few diners in our group enjoyed combo sandwiches made of corned beef and pastrami. Why choose one meat when you can have both? The rye bread was fresh and tasty. The sandwiches, while filling, were not particularly large. The accompanying potato pancakes were excellent: crispy and flavorful. One person in our group had the chicken salad platter. She was unimpressed and wouldn't recommend it. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. The diner who had aforementioned chicken salad asked for a toasted bagel when she placed her order. It never arrived until she was halfway finished with her meal. And the bagel wasn't toasted. She sent it back to be toasted. The server forgot to bring several other items until we reminded her: my chopped liver appetizer, my key lime pie dessert, a person's side knish, a person's soft drink, and another person's water refill. He light-heartedly mentioned to the server that her tip would depend on her bringing his water refill in a timely manner. Yep, that tactic worked. Although late to arrive, the chopped liver was delicious. The key lime pie was tangy and quite good. Although we understand that service can be slower with a larger group, there is really no excuse for failing to provide so many items. The overall rating primarily reflects the generally good food rather than the exceptionally poor service. read more

Had a really enjoyable early lunch here. The wait staff seems oddly placed, but the food was great. We both had the $14 lunch specials which was half a sandwich and a full bowl of soup. We had a great lunch here the other day. We sat inside. They weren't that busy. There were only a couple servers, however, who were covering both inside and outside tables, so luckily we weren't in any hurry. They brought pickles (one had sour and one dill) and a dish of sweet coleslaw to the table while we were waiting for our food. He had breakfast -- their challah French toast. The serving wasn't very big, but he said it was good. I had their soup and half sandwich. You could choose from several different soups. I got a cup of their mushroom barley soup which I really liked -- it was thick with mushrooms and a rich barley base. For my half sandwich, I chose their chopped (chicken) liver on rye bread. The bread was excellent -- with a nice crust on the outside. The liver was like pate -- smooth and creamy -- and very very good. Our server was pleasant. The food was good. Prices were reasonable. My friends told me the Hamburgers are great, and that on Wednesday it is by one get one. We decided to go there tonight for dinner. Thumbs down. The burgers were Angus but with zero taste. They were very greasy as were the French Fries . The plate was full of oil and grease. The bun was loaded with oil so that when u picked up the burger it slipped off the bun. The waiter was nice but never came to the table to see if all was okay. He came to see if we wanted dessert and to give me the bill. We haven't been at Reuvens for a few years. I've been here a couple times...this time for brunch. I enjoyed it very much! I require outdoor seating. Still. And they had no issue accommodating and our server was super ON IT! We ordered coffee, took our time ordering, our breakfast foods came out looking amazing.....mine was supposed to have strawberries but there were none. At first. Once I mentioned and she noticed the menu did in fact state there were strawberries, she brought me some and I was as happy as a clam!! (Are clams happy?) The pancakes were great. Ruven's is beyond unaccommodating. I wanted a nova and whitefish combo on a bagel, and was told I could either do a nova or a white fish, but I couldn't do a combination. Then I said I was gonna have a Leo omelette. Not really a problem, except that it wasn't coming with anything, no potatoes, no sliced tomatoes, or any toast or bread. I opted for the The Blue Burger, Smoky bacon, sharp and tangy blue cheese, lettuce, tomato , onion, and a side of hot blue cheese sauce, surprisingly very good. My wife tried the Breakfast Burger, one egg any way, bacon and choice of cheese. Burgers at Ruven's. Surprisingly good given that their deli meats (pastrami, corned beef, tongue, salami, turkey) are all cryovac commercial from National Deli and HN. The egg cream was too seltzery with not enough chocolate syrup in it. Baked goods are not made in house. Brian Kramer told me the burgers were good, with home made steak fries. I was skeptical. They cooked them perfectly medium rare, which they score huge points for. Great steak fries. Big portion, 8oz burger, juicy. Most of the potions here look really big. I would say concentrate on the things they actually make here, I could see the latkes looked good as did a few different other plates. Yes it's food to feed the dinosaurs.
