Woah mind blown and not in the good sense of the term. So we enter the restaurant and there are legit 2 huge cooked turkeys seated on a table cooling for everyone to walk past and get their covid-infested germs on. That should have been our first warning but we like to push the envelope. So we sit down and order 2 Dr. Browns and our meals. A turkey pot pie that was on special with soup, 2 sides and dessert for my mom and a mini nova platter and side of potato pancake for me. The soup never showed up.. My mom took one bite of her pot pie and said it had no flavor so we doctored it up with salt and pepper. There were no veggies or sides (maybe because it was pot pie but it wasn't specified). They really took the word "mini" to heart with my meal. For $15 bucks I got ONE SLICE of nova that barely covered my everything hard as a rock bagel. No worries I got a side of potato pancake... which was burnt and tasteless. Out comes the salt. I don't even like salt but believe me when I was done with this bad boy it at least had flavor that the little mermaid would have been jealous of. Next came dessert. Rice pudding not my jam but ok so my mom orders it and says guess what? No taste! So we dump in a thing of sugar and mixed it with whipped cream and it apparently was still gross. I'm assuming this place can get by with this seeing as their clientele may be missing vital tastebuds. But I'm still thriving and full of life and like my $50 meal to at least have something going for it. The takeaway: we feel lucky if we don't get sick. The food sucks. The service sucks. And where the hell did the turkeys go? I guess that will go in the category of life's biggest mysteries, but I'm not returning to find out. You have been warned- tread carefully. read more

Ruven's was recommended to us as a convenient place to meet family from Vero Beach and Pembroke Pines. We had a very personable and efficient server named Andres. We had delicious egg skillet dishes, lox platter and corned beef sandwich. Everyone was pleased with their food. The menu is large and interesting. The atmosphere is nice and it was not crazy busy! This is a very good restaurant with a huge menu. I brought 10 people here for breakfast and the service was amazing as was the food. The only issue anyone, including myself, had was there was no cell phone reception inside. That part was weird because we compared our reception from different phones/carriers. I came in expecting very little from this place as a good jewish style deli/restaurant tend to be hard to come by. I was pleasantly surprised. For starters, the menu was much more than I thought it would be. Very long and many options to choose from. A good variety of items too for all types of palettes. The matzo ball soup was good, but just good. Nothing too fancy. My mom's is still way better :) the matzo ball itself was bland but the broth was surprisingly flavorful. Together it was a nice bite. I ordered the fajita panini with the "fries". The panini was delicious! The chicken was plenty and fresh. But the "fries" I had issues with. They were essentially giant, uncooked, unseasoned chunks of potatoes. Totally not worth it. It was like that for everyone in my party who had them. The desserts definitely cater to an "older" crowd as I believe many of them were along the sugar free line... Everyone went home with leftovers. This is the first time I've been at Ruven's for breakfast and it was very underwhelming. The hostess and waitress were very welcoming and friendly. Then we got a coffee mug with lipstick on it, and the mugs had small chips. Not a good start. The tables have a clear plastic covering on them which bubbled up in places so the coffee mugs had to be carefully placed. We got silverware packets but no napkins. One of the silverware packets was minus a spoon. The coffee was dull and slightly bitter tasting, and I never considered myself a coffee connoisseur. The French toast was served just warm and not freshly made. I've had much better at other places in the area. My friend's eggs looked fine and she didn't complain. On the plus side, the coffee is included with your meal if you order before 11, and the bathroom was clean. read more

Wow! The distinction of the wall art truly makes the transition from Florida to New York a quick possibility! We came for breakfast with no preconceived notions. Of course in today's day and times we know there are service issues. But we actually did not feel like any of that bothered us. We sat ourselves as directed and quickly we were asked what we wanted to drink and menus were given. The menu is extensive and gives everyone the opportunity to choose their own desires. My son and his girlfriend chose skillet meals one with a bagel the other with a bialy. I chose the lox,onion omelet with a tomato. BTW the coffee is served in carafes and is fresh and delicious. The food came out hot and each plate was filled with food. My omelette was huge so much so that I took home most of it as I could not finish it. Attempted to grab some Greek food at Olympia, unfortunately they only serve lunch during season. I was starving & my final stop was Publix. I had two options in this plaza, Nino's or this place. Big mistake. The signage promoted a buy one get one lunch special & I figured it's just a quick lunch before going grocery shopping. Have you ever gone to Publix hungry? Not a good thing, right? So Ruven's it was. Upon entering I noticed a faint odor; maybe chemicals or cleaning products. I was in denial and told myself the smell was cleaning products. The BOGO applied to anything on the menu except the back page. Ironically, the back page was the "Lunch Specials" & it was confusing trying to make sense of it. I couldn't care less about getting a "deal", all I wanted was a quick lunch. I went with the hot dog platter. Our server said they were Hebrew National but she was wrong. They use National products & National & Hebrew National are not the same. I ate the hot dogs without the buns & I enjoyed them. I swapped out potato pancakes for the fries. Aside from being completely flavorless, they were burnt. Not crispy but burnt. I added salt & sour cream & they tasted better. I am not one to salt my food, but I was desperate. I was tired and cranky and made the best of it. The coleslaw and pickles were both good. The service was horrendous. I mean bad, very bad; almost non existent. I can't think of one positive thing to say about the service. The restaurant has a New York theme, although there is no possible way Ruven's could ever survive in New York. I honestly don't know how they are making it here in South Florida. With an abundance of Jewish style delis in Boynton, Delray and Boca, I don't see myself returning. So why two stars? The pickles, coleslaw and hot dogs were good. As good as Ben's? No freaking way. In fact that would be like comparing Einstein's to Bagelworks. Not even in the same league. A non Yelping friend recently told me that just because I can cook a brisket, doesn't make me a food critic. He is right. Yelp is about real people writing about real experiences & sharing their own opinions. My opinion: The food is subpar at best, service is a nightmare and the prices are inexpensive. I am a believer that you get what you pay for. Two for one deals are great, but only if the food is good. Personally, I will gladly spend more money for a better dining experience. Contrast this with my review from 4 years ago. Been a regular at Ruven's since I moved here 4 years ago. Since Covid, this place has just gotten progressively worse. Frankly, I continued to go out of habit and Dawn, a fabulous server who is no longer there. This morning, I went for breakfast as I do most Sundays. The scrambled eggs had a chemically taste. The bacon was horrid and the pancakes were inedible. Kudos to my waitress who offered me something else but I had lost my appetite by then. Sorry to say, I'm done with Ruven's. First time there on a Sunday night and was pleasantly surprised. Great look and feel but the menu is the real star. Who else has borscht with sour cream abd a boiled potato on the menu around here? Not many. Had the stuffed cabbage appetizer and it was great. Even came with a couple of slices of Jewish rye bread. Can't he beat. Just imagine, borscht, kasha varnishkas, and stuffed cabbage on the same menu. For the faint of heart there are also at least 10 Different burgers on the menu. You gotta go there. read more

Ruven's, tucked away in a small shopping area in West Delray, would not seem to be "the deli" of choice - not as fancy or as crowded as its more well known competitor 3 G's. However you should definitely give Ruven's a try as its food, in my opinion, surpasses 3 G's in the quantity and quality. Not only that, but the prices are more reasonable as well. My only "complaint" is the french fries which are the thick cut type and just taste too "potato-ish" to myself and most people I've been there with (the pettiness of this "complaint" should stand testament to the otherwise overall high quality of Ruven's). All in all this is a restaurant that is well worth the visit. read more

Apparently the entire restaurant went on vacation and didn't bother to stop online orders! They didn't bother to leave any kind of phone recording, it just keeps ringing. This was the worst restaurant I have been to in years. The initial waitress was incredibly rude, we were given two menus for five people, and waited 45 minutes for food to arrive. Came to Ruven's for lunch after a late morning doctor's appointment. Since this was our first visit to this restaurant we didn't know what to expect. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by Dawn. Her personality, friendliness and attentiveness were AMAZING. She brought us the complimentary coleslaw and pickles. Disappointing visit. Typical New York deli ambiance, although small uninspiring pastry case. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onion instead of raw and requested a side of bbq. My wife ordered eggs Benedict and a pancake upcharge as a side. We saw the eggs benny and the burger appear in the kitchen window and it sat there for a solid 10 minutes. Our waitress Georgina went up there 3 or 4 times and saw it sitting there so I am guessing something was missing, perhaps the fries? She finally brings it out. The burger was juicy but presuming the bun was the cheapest one they could find at Publix, they toasted it a bit to try to escalate it but to no avail. My 1st visit here. Busy restaurant, however, we were seated fairly promptly. The menu is large and comprehensive. I had the turkey wrap, which was very tasty. My friends had a chef salad, which was huge and topped with ample and fresh meats and cheese, and a Reuben sandwich, which looked delicious. Somehow I let the otherwise very nice lady server talk me out of the tuna salad platter in favor of a scoop of tuna on a plate. The money she probably saved me also left me very hungry.
