The menu is full of all your classic breakfast options, along with a few choices to add even more flavor to a simple dish. I ordered the Peaches & Cream Waffle. It was incredible! Not only was the waffle giant, fluffy, and flavorful all by itself, but the homemade whipped cream and warm fresh peach slices on top made this dish so satisfying. It felt like a comforting reminder of a homemade meal that had care in the kitchen. It was very filling too with at least a whole peach sliced on the plate. We had a wonderful lunch here. Service was good and so was the food. This "diner" restaurant serves breakfast and lunch now. They used to also serve dinner but cut back hours and changed the menu a bit after covid. My husband opted to have a breakfast dish -- the waffle combo and added sausages. He said it was great. His waffle was pretty large -- taking up the entire plate. The waffle was light and airy. He got scrambled eggs which came on a separate plate. They were fluffy. And he added sausage links which they did well done per his request. They gave him two syrups from which to choose -- one was sugar free. He used the regular maple syrup pretty liberally (he likes to fill all the waffles holes, eek!). I debated between a sandwich and a salad and chose the salad. The fatoush salad was excellent. It had a grilled chicken breast on top that was cut into strips. The salad itself had chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, lettuce, and crispy pita chips mixed throughout. It also had a very compatible seasoned dressing on everything. It was a delicious and way too large portion. I took about a third home for later. Forgot to say that I added a side of well-done french fries. I was curious about the middle eastern dishes listed on the menu, so I asked. The family is Lebanese. They had more of these items on the menu when they used to serve dinner. And they are house made. Can't wait to come back and try their shawarma or their hummus among others. My daughter and I were in the mood for diner food so I Googled some of the top rated diners that were on our home and stumbled across Penelope's. We were greeted and seated immediately as we walked in and the establishment was clean, decor is well, what you would expect from a typical diner setting. Our food came out quickly and they catered to me with an item that they don't typically sell Al La carte, a potato pancake. I'm glad they did because it was pretty amazing and was told they make it in house. They do have a potato pancake Benedict item that sounds really good but I was more in the mood for a simple turkey club at the time, but I know what Im getting next time. Overall, food and service was fantastic, and price is fair. They were all super friendly and attentive, ended up finding out they're family owned and ran. I'm sorry about it putting a before picture of food haha but it was delicious and the OJ is fresh squeezed so amazing. The syrup is warm and yummy. This use to be a wonderful local dinner. The food use to be extremely delicious and fresh. Lately the restaurant is not clean, restrooms are unkept and smell, food has gone downhill, toasted sandwiches are always burnt and fries are always over done. The owners don't like it when you send food back, when I did this they came to the table to see why I was complaining about me burnt fries, had an attitude, walked away with out saying anything, then sent out a very small dish of correctly cooked fries. My friend and I stopped in for a quick lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. We both ordered sandwiches, nothing fancy. We were horrified when our food arrived. The owner refused to remake them or offer us something else. Things got worse when the owner started poking his finger in my friends sandwich to show him where the cheese was in his grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. In all fairness, my friend did ask him to show him where the cheese was, since we didn't see any. We expected the owner to simply point, not poke his fingers in the food! In this day of covid, why would he poke his fingers in the sandwich & then refuse to remake them? He insisted we pay the bill even though we didn't even taste anything and left our waters untouched. Even though he refused to remake the sandwiches, he insisted that we pay. He even tossed two boxes on our table. Why would we take home inedible food that he poked his fingers in? We put the charge on a credit card and clearly wrote on the receipt the charge will be disputed immediately. As promised, I submitted the dispute and won. Maybe my picture helped, but this was the worst experience I have had in any restaurant in my life. This is a popular restaurant with good reviews. I am only sharing my experience. You may have a great experience and I hope you do. We left hungry, angry and terrified that the owner would hurt someone. You never know these days who your dealing with. This person might have been having a bad day, but regardless, his behavior was beyond scary. This is the first time I ever disputed a charge from a restaurant. This was more than a disappointing meal, this was a scary experience that could have escalated into something more. Disputing the charge wasn't about the money, it was the principal. I went there looking for a place to eat lunch while I waited for an appointment. The waitress was very friendly, and the whole service was fantastic!!! I explained that it was my first visit and I wasn't sure what to order, but that I was in between the chicken wrap or the chicken shawarma. She Recomended the shawarma. The shawarma arrived nicely wrapped, warm and the outside a bit crispy; the inside creamy and tasty. I noticed that they added some pickles, I wasn't sure about it but I couldn't stop eating it. I read some of the negative reviews and I was wondering, where did these folks actually eat! When you enter Penelope's (which is named after the cutest little girl, drawing at a back table), you are immediately greeted by the nicest host. If you ask, he'll explain to you that the diner is a mom and pop operation. They stand behind everything they serve, and the food is amazing! I just bought in Gleneagles, which is across the street. My first experience was having a waffle for breakfast. Now, let me explain. I'm a chef, with a published cookbook. If I say the food is fresh and delicious, I know from where I speak. The waffle was crispy and soft inside, perfectly cooked. No gooey center as some places who undercook their food are wont to serve. Real maple syrup if asked for, the test of a great diner. I happened to ask the host when leaving if they serve biscuits and gravy. My first experience with biscuits and gravy occurred in my youth as a guest of the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead, Georgia. It's the Ritz's signature breakfast, served in their top hotel. The host declared that their biscuits and gravy were his father's specialty, and he took great pride in his recipe. Folks, if you're into a savory béchamel, loaded with pieces of sausage, served over fluffy biscuits, hand cut and fantastic, run, don't walk. Their tuna sandwiches, the sign of a good restaurant, taste like homemade. Best tuna I've had in a restaurant in forever. My husband had a western omelet, and his big mistake was giving me a taste of it! Omg! I couldn't stop stealing pieces. It was 4 or 5 eggs, stuffed with cheese, ham, onions and peppers, not raw as many places do, but sautéed to bring out the flavors. The omelet was puffy and, again, perfectly prepared! They'll make a flat omelet if you so desire, but give the chef a chance to show you the miracles he can make with eggs. Service is terrific, and prices low for the tastes and quality of the food. All I can say is Bon Appetit, and I know I'm going to be sorry I wrote this review when the place is too busy to seat me right away. read more
