Something for everyone here. It has a trendy hipster look overall but has lots of TVs for sports. The menu is similar in that way and has everything from avo toast to chicken wings. I went on a Friday night to enjoy a local spot that has a great outdoor seating area. My first waiter was excellent and recommended some drinks they sounded exactly what we wanted. And we were enjoying the cool night and atmosphere. Then we ordered some food. Unfortunately it well all downhill from there. The Poutine is garbage and the options that go with it are very unappealing. The gravy is a water brown liquid and the melted shredded cheese they put on top of a cheap pile of french fries is just gross. Nothing of quality like the late Tavern on 2 and their amazing short rib poutine with crumbled cheese curds. Trying to enjoy the night, we overlooked that and just chalked up to cheap bar food, except R Bar is definitely trying to be something more, but just failing at it. We gave a waitress an order for wings to try and salvage the appetizer letdown with that poutine that was brought out. She took the order and we waited. The waitress that brought our food never checked on us if we needed anything else, if we were enjoying the poutine, if we wanted more drinks, she simply disappeared. We waited on the wings for over 45 minutes, until I got a hold of a different waitress, because the waitress that brought out the poutine finally showed up but was too busy having bullshit conversations with people to check on us. The new waitress apologized and stated the order was put in but didnt know why we didnt get ours. I mentioned other people ahead of us got their food, but to just cancel it and give us the check. Disgruntled bartender doesn't like serving black people. Threw another temper tantrum taking my order and making my drink. The 1st interaction wasn't as blatant and obvious as this one. He's very intentional about who he serves and ignores. Some quick tips to help you cope with that unconscious bias and get you over the hurdle of serving people you dont like: 1. Money is green 2. Awesome bar! We came to watch a boxing fight and the place was PACKED. Even with all the people, we never waited longer than a couple minutes for a drink and there were TVs every where, so we weren't battling for a clear view. Very disappointed in this place came out to try it and everything was going well at first, but as the night went on it got worse. We ordered poutine fries which were good, but the we put in an order for chicken wings. 45 minutes later still never received them but the table next to us got theirs within 15 minutes after walking in. This is our favorite new bar in downtown Long Beach. The vibe is very chill, very classy at the same time. I hosted my husbands 50th there. Stopped in with some friends after work for a quick one. Walking up, I was already excited because the decor outside looked so cute! (It's the little things!). Cool outdoor seating and a really neat display of water vapor that looks like super rad flames. Then when you walk in there is a huge bar top that wraps around the center of the bar, awesome booths, ugh! I love the decor and vibe of this place. Love this place! The crew here is the coolest, from Rick the owner, Barnaby the GM, Brigitte, Adam,and Dexter, and Varush or "V, like Virgin" they're all just getting started. The music is the right volume and kept us bouncing and rocking the whole time. I loved the genre they were playing (90's hip hop)! Get in here and watch the multitude of big screen TVs, and enjoy some of this great grub. Along with our drinks, we had the wings, the bruschetta, and the Italian wedding soup. We had passed by R Bar too many times to count during the construction process, excited for the prospect of a true neighborhood bar to move in, especially to watch sports games. We went for the first time for the Champions League final and it did not disappoint. Plenty of TVs, no bad place to sit to get a good view, and good, cheap beers on tap. The food wasn't too bad either -- pretty standard bar fare, some interesting options, but good all-in-all. I spoke with one of the owners hoping this would be the new spot to watch the Dodgers but he said they were unable to get them with their cable package. I don't fault them for this though due to so few places having the ability to show the games, would have just been an added perk. I look forward to going back, either for the next big game or for a couple drinks with friends. It's the kinda bar that should be good in any situation. read more

Came to LB for the weekend to celebrate my Fiancé's birthday and most bars and restaurants are closed early and have had poor customer service. We stumbled upon R bar just walking around to see where we could grab some drinks to celebrate and hang out. I was pleased that this bar was not only open, but that the service at the bar was quick and friendly, and by chance, we got to meet the owner Rick who so graciously walked up to us and introduced himself to us. I was seated at the bar trying to get the attention of one of the three bartenders that were working, after a gentleman walked in and was served I became hopeful.
