YUM! My husband and I were looking for a simple diner with great breakfast food and boy did this place deliver. I had the Southern Breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits and gravy. The grits were "meh", which I typically find in restaurants... I just make them too tasty at home. BUT, the sausage gravy and biscuits were fantastic. My husband had a meat lovers omelet, which included the omelet, potatoes, a pancake and toast. He loved everything. Brought my son in and was seated right away. We ordered promptly and the food was great. Steak and eggs were perfect as were the chicken and waffles that my 4 year old got. Having eaten at Poor Richard's Cafe in the past, we were curious to see how it was under new management. I ordered the pecan waffle breakfast and my husband had an omelet. My scrambled eggs arrived COLD, the waffle was doughy, and my husband's pancake was half burnt. We were never offered a refill on our coffee. Don;t think we will be returning anytime soon. I love eating breakfast here! You get a lot of food, and it's really flavorful. It's always busy, but even if the line snakes outside onto the sidewalk, seating is quick. They serve gingerbread pancakes - yum! Eggs are always "dirty" - cooked on a grill that's been cooking bacon - so extra tasty as well. The service is quick, with one person assigned to do drinks, another to take your order, someone else will deliver it, and coffee flows abundantly. This is where I go when I want "home cooking" for breakfast. The servers where t-shirts that say "I got full @ Poor Richards," and that's definitely how I feel every time I leave there! Now, they do serve lunch, but my husband and I have never eaten those foods, but they look good, more homecooking type. read more

Poor Richard's is a great place to have a hearty breakfast or to stop in on your lunch break. The service is fast and the food is great. I had the smothered roast beef with mashed potatoes and candied yams. (I would suggest that you let them know NOT to smother the whole sandwich if you dont like that because they surely will) They have specials everyday and some of their vegetables change depending on the special that day. Poor Richard's is a great place to go whenever you want a good breakfast. The portions are very big, price is very cheap, Food is good. There is always a line, however the line moves very quickly to be seated. The wait staff are very attentive and will make sure your food is good and served to you quickly. The service was excellent aswell as the food. We ordered the pr scramble (no bacon), big breakfast, and kids waffle. The scramble was cheesy and delicious the pancake was fluffy and dense, the bacon was thick, and the waffle good. The food all came out really fast and was hot. I took the kids (1 & 6 yr. old) after reviewing the menu online. I knew there'd be a wait of about 15 minutes from reading online. I had our order memorized and toy cars available to keep the kids busy while waiting in line. We got there and began waiting in line around 10:45am on a Sunday. Well, we waited and waited. The line moved slowly, but it was moving and I really wanted bacon. We watched several older couples walk in through the EXIT only door. They were greeted with smiles by their regular servers and given the opportunity to skip the line. Does that seem right?! Meanwhile, my little one couldn't control herself and she really wanted to eat. We left and the kids went home to eat cereal. No bacon for us. This is our second time here and the service and food was even better than the first time. I got the Hearty Breakfast with eggs, pancakes and bacon. The eggs were fresh and prepared perfectly and pancakes were so tasty. The bacon is arguably the best in Texas. Great "home" cooking. Even better prices. Fast and friendly service. This is a real gem of a restaurant. Not fancy, but very friendly, with a menu that is so wide that you could eat there for weeks, every day, and have a different meal each day. But you will find your favorites. My Mission....to find the best Biscuit N Gravy in Dallas/Fort Worth. This is huge fav place for all of plano. I have never been there when there was not a line to the door - no worries, they are very fast moving. The place is very clean, the staff is friendly. I had the classic (eggs, bacon, home fries). My over medium eggs were PERFECT, bacon was crispy. The home fries were too soft but not browned - pass on these. Then the Biscuit N Gravy - NOT. I went away from my omelette and had the chicken and waffle. The waffle was delish but the chicken was dry and stringy. Nothing some extra syrup could not take care of.
