Good food, rude service. Four of us were seated; our fifth was looking for a parking spot. A man (the owner?) came over to ask where the fifth person was. We said she was parking. A few minutes later the waitress came to take our orders. As we were ordering for our friend who wasn't there yet, the man came to ask again where she was. My friend asked if there was a problem. He replied that he had a problem with four people at a five top. The waitress told him we'd just ordered for her. He was willing to back off then, but the damage was done. Did he really think we would lie about the size of the party? What would be the point? They didn't ask if the entire party was there before we were seated. We generally go here for brunch on weekends. Although the line is sometimes out the door, it moves quickly. We've tried several breakfast items but my favorite has to be the eggs benedict. Very decent! They'll cook the eggs to your liking too. They have home fries which, unless you ask for them to be crispy, are often undercooked in my opinion, a little too mushy. When crispy though, they remind me of the home fries you get at Le Peep in Houston. They'll add onions if you ask too. You can always opt for the hash brown patty if it's more your thing but not sure if there's an upchrage for it or not. Also have had the chicken fried steak breakfast - they have two sizes and, unless you are a BIG eater, I suggest going for the normal sized one. Now, I can usually eat me a CFS breakfast, but I have a really hard time finishing this breakfast once you add on the 3 eggs, fries and the biscuits n' gravy. The CFS is hand breaded which gets a star in itself. The gravy, however, is ehhhh....just okay. Would be better if it had sausage in it - not a lot of flavor. The affable owner is always on the prowl, stopping at tables and talking to the locals and taking an active interest in his restaurant. One of the hostesses is from NYC so we always share a story here and there and she's quite a character! I love watching her deal with people and kids - she was born for this job! I did go in for lunch one time at a waitress' recommendation that I come by and try their burger. It was a good bacon cheeseburger, but nothing special. Thin patty but they use a salad dressing or sweetened mayo which I abhor. They also have daily specials and I notice a lot of people getting them, since they come with several sides and rolls/cornbread in a basket. Pretty good "home-cooking" food overall though, and very inexpensive, and one of the few brunch places East Plano. Breakfast every day till close and since it's one of my favorite meals, it's hard to beat. Our bill usually works out to a little over $20 for the two of us, regardless of what we get. Without coffee, or additions like their salsa (or in my hunnie's case, an extra rasher of bacon), you can easily get away for just under $20. read more

I've considered coming here for quite some due to the high rating and it came recommended from a friend. The line was out the door but moves fairly quickly. After browsing through the previous reviews I decided on the BBQ pork omelet and the misses went with the pecan waffle. While the food was enjoyable it was fairly heavy and nothing memorable. I thought this place was something special since they have been in business since 1973. Very disappointed. Hash browns out of the freezer! Had to ask twice for waitress. Had to get our menus since waitresses were non existent. Hit sauce out of a bottle was not good at all. Yummy! We were in Plano & found this on Yelp. Great breakfast, extensive menu. I ordered the Heart healthy salsa breakfast, 2 poached eggs over sautéed spinach & lean ham. It comes w/ a fruit plate and I opted for the sautéed mushrooms, onions & green pepper. Very tasty! My SO ordered the shrimp & grits w/ 2 eggs, also very good. We like the big comfy booths too. Delicious! The prices are reasonable and the portions are huge! I ordered chicken fried chicken the chicken needed a little salt but that's an easy fix. It was huge! I didn't want to like this place based on the surliness we encountered with our server. But, begrudgingly, I found the food to be exceptionally good. The pancakes were tender if not exactly warm upon arrival, the coffee plentiful and the Poor Richards Plus entree fresh and well prepared. One downside was not being able to order a simple biscuit as a side item. I was forced to order a full side of biscuits and gravy instead. I had enough food to fill four people and felt sad to leave so much on my plate because 1, the food was tasty and two, I was wasting so much. Maybe next time we'll get a server who is a little more friendly and helpful and the star rating will increase. read more

Poor Richard's has been a favorite of mine since my brother introduced me years ago. I love the atmosphere, people, and food. If you're not into home cooked southern food and hospitality, I recommend going to a Denny's or IHop. I haven't had a bad meal or service in the past 10 years I've been going there. I have two favorites though, the chicken fried steak and Thursday's special (Turkey and dressing). Not to mention, this the only place I know of that has seasoned salt on the table. I ordered the Pecan Waffle Breakfast and iced tea. The price, $7.99 for Pecan waffles, bacon, scrambled eggs, and potatoes. Alot of food! The pecan waffles were great until I bit into a piece of pecan shell. The eggs were perfectly cooked but it also had a lil' extra crunch, uh 2 pieces of egg shell. The bacon was super salty. The potatoes were well cooked, but the cook added so much onion.. onion potatoes not good. Even the tea lacked that good ol' American Lipton/Tetley flavor. My husband had the ham(was good, great flavor and thinly sliced), perfect eggs, the oniony potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were pretty but lacked flavor, and same for gravy. Bad gravy is unforgivable in my book. Hmm.. if you want food then go Poor Richard's Cafe you will get fed. If your looking for a savory breakfast...eh...drive past this place.
