My husband and I have grown fond of this place for breakfast. Always hot & nice service. Today, was not a good experience & will prevent use from returning. Our server had a scowl on her face from the moment she came to the table. (Long dark ponytail) It was 12:30pm & it was not busy (breakfast rush was over.) We had to get up three times to ask for things, our toast & pancakes, napkins, coffee. The three servers working were standing at the front counter talking away with each other our server, at one point, was talking on her cell phone. The food quality has gone down in recent months. Eggs were nice & hot, hash browns were cold, bacon had been good in the past, but our past two visits the bacon has tasted burnt & it has an odd flavor. Toast was over cooked, not buttered, it was not edible. The last time our coffee was refilled was by a man that looked like he had just come out of the kitchen. He was very nice & we were grateful that our coffee was being refilled without having to get up and ask for it. The servers were still lolly gagging behind the counter while the gentleman was refilling our coffee. I have worked in the restaurant business from being a server & also in management. I am very understanding of all angles of what is going on in a restaurant setting. The service on Saturday was the worst service I have ever experienced. Sometimes you take notice of how much someone cares in the little things, like how your food gets served. I hate going to breakfast places and looking at the kids menu and seeing the kids menu being like $3 or $4 less than the adult menu but having wayyyy less food. By that point I'd rather just share. I see a lot of people saying this is the best pancakes or best chicken fried steak. Now hold up. Either these people ate shitty pancakes all of their life and ass chicken fried steak, or they have a mob boss with a bat behind them when they were writing that review. The pancakes and chicken fried steak weren't bad by any means. But to say they were the best is a hugeeeeeee yoga stretch. Starwood cafe has better chicken fried steak and their chicken fried steak isn't that much better. Benedict in Addison has better pancakes (although the prices of their food are atrocious). I even think ihop has better pancakes but that's debatable. These pancakes were chewy which is decent but if you like fluffy in anyway, this is not the place! read more

Hot Pancakes is a small American style restaurant in Richardson Texas. The restaurant is located in a strip mall next to a 7-Eleven gas station on the service road of President Gorge Bush tollway. The wife and I visited Hot Pancakes for brunch on Saturday around 11:00 AM. I had chicken fried steak and eggs (which came with pancakes) and the wife had an omelette and toast. The portion sizes were good and the price wasn't bad ($32). Parking: 1 / 5 - Parking for Hot Pancakes is not good. The restaurant is located next to a 7-Eleven which means parking is limited to what is in front of the building and that's it. The rest of the parking lot is gas pumps. Unfortunately, not only is parking limited, but you'll also be in competition with folks stoping at the 7-Eleven. Due to the limited parking, you'll also find people double parked while they wait for someone to run into the convenance store, or while they wait for a gas pump to become available. It makes the parking cramped and competitive. Food: 2.5 / 5 - The food was good but not great. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. My meal included pancakes and hash browns. The wife had an omelet and toast. The eggs were sunny-side-up, but the edges were a little crispy which suggest they were a little over done. The chicken fried steak was good but the gravy had a kind of grocery story flavor to it. Overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional either. I would say, slightly above average. Service: 2 / 5 - The service wasn't bad, but didn't really stand out. When we walked in, it didn't take long for us to get directed to a table and have menus in hand. It did take a little too long to have our order taken. Just long enough where you start wonder if you've been forgotten, but not long enough where you get up to go find someone. It was 11:00 AM and you could tell the lunch rush was starting to trickle in, so this probably had something to do with it. I had my back to the kitchen / register, but the wife told me that on several occasions the wait staff were standing around on their cell phones, so not really a good look for the restaurant. When we finished our meal, we didn't get a check so we eventually got up and walked to the register to ask for it. Atmosphere 1 / 5 - Unfortunately, Hot Pancakes falls short on atmosphere. It has a very fast food style vibe. The tables are very close together and the dining room is very small. This causes lots of congestion and noise when you're moving in and out (lines and crowds). It also puts you close enough to the people around you that you can practically be part of their conversations. Summary: 1.3 / 5 - Hot Pancakes is a small restaurant located in a strip mall. If you're looking for an American style meal and you're not really concerned with atmosphere this could be a quick place to stop, gas up at the 7-Eleven and have lunch. The food was average and the service was acceptable. The atmosphere is fine for a quick gas and lunch, but if you're looking for something more, you probably won't be happy with Hot Pancakes. Located in a gas station complex with minimal seating, an old school register and recipes older than some of these FortNite kiddos, this is definitely one of those local institutions that's here to stay so long as the community keeps showing up at the door. I've never had the same waitress every time I've come here which is, unique, however what I have received was clear service both in terms of hospitality and professionalism. This is a place that'll bend their own rules for a new "friend" and treat you like family after your first visit. Just gotta be nice. Their selection is a wide array of slightly altered breakfast affairs (i.e. Pancakes, Waffles, Omelettes) with some Texas classics thrown in for good measure. While they're decidedly not a 'halal' restaurant like my usual focus, they're very accommodating and what they bring out is readily tailored so you never feel like you're missing out or not getting your money's worth. It's simple, straightforward and delicious. Pull yourself out of bed and drag yourself into this place for what's sure to be an enjoyable breakfast or sweet Brunch. On this beautiful Saturday during a pandemic, I didn't feel like cooking. I decided I should visit Hot Pancakes since I the reviews were good. Well, I was disappointed with my meal. I called in an order of Country Fried Steak and Eggs. It included hash browns and 2 pancakes. My order was ready within 15 minutes. When I got home and opened the containers, I was excited. I just wanted some good food. Well, I cut into the steak, only to discover that the breading was separating from the steak. Smh. It was so separated that I was able to just pull the meat from inside of the breading. Even the flavor of the steak wasn't nothing to brag about. Moving on to the eggs - very basic with no seasoning. Same with the hash browns. I added the ketchup they provided to he has browns and ate some of them. The pancakes were just okay too. Truthfully, I've had better from Whataburger. Seriously! If you haven't had Whataburger's pancakes, give them a try. *sigh* I'm not sure what other people have ordered to give great reviews but my meal was not worthy of 3 stars. I met some friends who were visiting from out of town and we try to make a habit to visit places that are "chain restaurants" that we could go to on any given day. Our waitress was a little sassy, however I will say that we won her over, and she made sure that our drinks were full (even sending us out the door with to go cups) and that we were satisfied with our food. My meal was delicious! My friend ordered the chicken fried chicken and he stated it was a little to spicy. His wife got the chicken fried steak and said it was good. Personally, I'm coming back . . . Really fast breakfast. I think we ordered and received our food in 5 minutes. If you're looking for something fast and good, this is it. The wait staff is also very friendly. You can order one of their breakfast combos or build your own. Either way, it's very cheap. For four of us to eat and have coffee, orange juice, it came out to about $40 total. Very cheap.
