I'm rarely impressed and yet I was thoroughly impressed at Cafe Max. Went for lunch because all those Chicken Salad Chick commercials had me jonesin' for some chicken salad. My go to is usually MarketStreet for one of their very good chicken salad sandwiches in the to go case. That's not close enough for a Richardson lunch so I found Cafe Max via a Yelp search. They offer 8 different salads, sandwiches and a quiche and soup of the day in addition to desserts like brownies and cookies. Most people get the trio of pick your salad. I chose Caesar salad (huge and better than La Madeline), chicken salad and seafood salad. The Caesar was fresh and creamy. The chicken salad was delicious and consists of large strips of chicken, green bell strips, cucumber strips, apple strips and a sweet tangy dressing. The seafood salad is julienne strips of imitation crab in a creamy dressing and it's generous and phenomenal. The trio with both chicken and seafood is $15 which may seem high but consider the quality is high and the helpings are enough for either two people or two lunches it's very fair. I'm going to be returning with coworkers and will use this as my go-to for catering office working lunches. I used Jason's Deli last time and this blows it out of the water.

Salad sampler was a good pick if you've never been there before and wanting to try it all!

For a quick salad lunch this is a great spot. Dine-in still isn't an option at this time since they are short staffed but the to-go process is pretty quick and easy. If you are really in a crunch for time, you can call ahead 15 minutes and place your order to skip the line. They still enforce face masks and limit the number of people in the store (thank you!). My first time here, I wanted to try everything so I got the salad sampler which included a heft scoop of Cesar salad and 7 small scoops of the other types. I enjoyed them all and my least favorite one was the vegetable (probably because it was the healthiest one!).

I recently made a return visit to Cafe Max after almost 16 years!! This mini cafeteria is near my old high school so some of my friends and I used to grab some on our way home. All these years later and it's still exactly the same!! They have a pretty limited menu, but let me tell you this: Cafe Max makes some of the best Caesar salad + pasta salad you will have ever tried. The caesar is made with the perfect amount of dressing, the croutons have a unique seasoning to them, and the dark green lettuce brings it all together for an addicting plate. I brought some over to my sister who is not a salad person, and Cafe Max has converted her. And the pasta salad. Well, it's creamy and perfect. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I love pasta salads and have eaten them my whole life, but the seasoning and flavors CM uses are incredible. Try it, trust me. COVID update: you must wear a mask to enter the small cafe. They are also offering carryout and catering.

They have the zucchini muffins and I love the chicken salad and cucumbers salad. They give you enough salad for at least two days for me.

We had the deviled eggs and lump crab cakes to start, and both were SO good. Prices were great too. Our waitress, Staci (or Stacy), was AMAZING. Sweet, funny, great at banter, and incredibly attentive. Even when she was busy, she never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. When she was at our table, we had her full attention, she checked on us the perfect amount, and we never had to ask for anything twice. She was on top of her game! My only complaint was a really awkward interaction at the end. I wanted to ask Staci two simple questions: whether they carried an olive gin I'd had in Europe (they didn't, but I haven't found it anywhere) and whether I could buy a roll of quarters because we were going to play pool. Somehow this turned into 5-6 staff members gathering around, plus this random blonde lady in a white T-shirt and jeans joining the conversation. Aside from Staci and the blonde lady, no one else even acknowledged me. They just stood there looking at me. It was weird. It felt like a lot of unnecessary attention over two simple questions and made me pretty uncomfortable. Having another customer involved was honestly the weirdest part. It was disappointing because we'd had such a great experience up until then. I went from thinking, "I need to bring my friends here!" to leaving feeling pretty unwelcome. Food: delicious. Atmosphere: beautiful. Prices: great. Staci: WONDERFUL. I just wish the interaction at the end had matched the rest of the experience. I changed my rating from two stars to four stars because I didn't feel like one bad interaction was worth two stars and I was a little flustered when I originally wrote my review.

We ordered via online and realized they relocated. Of course we had to order multiple things to get a feel of their consistency. LET'S GET RIGHT INTO IT; We ordered the Pineapple Juice - (8/10) : The juice was good Hisbicus Tea - (4/10) : The tea was made with cane sugar; that defeated the purpose of a healthy and delicious tea. I really wanted it to be made with agave or date syrup. Side of Cabbage- (4/10) : Cabbage was very bland for fried cabbage, its wasn't seasoned at all and it wasn't cooked through enough to my liking. Side of Fried Brussel Sprouts - (7/10) : Brussel Sprouts were decent and actually seasoned. They just weren't mind blowingly good so a 7 was the best I could give it. Vegan Jerk Oxtail with Mushroom Rice - (8/10) : This right here was great however it was giving more vegan meatloaf then it was oxtail. We had to think of it as a meatloaf for us to be fully satisfied with the flavor. Overall though it was good and we enjoyed it. Vegan Lobster Mac and Cheese - (9/10) : This was the STAR of the show. It was delicious, creamy and the lobster pieces actually were giving lobster lowkey. We enjoyed this one the most and would return just to get this. The Ambiance of the restaurant was cool and definitely would be worth sitting in and enjoying the meals. The decor was decent inside and inside the bathroom, however, the bathroom needs to be upgraded. My rating... DEFINITELY would recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese, we will return to get it again and maybe try another vegan option. I would totally recommend, GO TRY IT OUT! They also have non-vegan options that others rave about!

My friends took me here for my 60th birthday!! Outside of the perfect steaks and stellar service (a great big thank you to Brad our amazing waiter), the music stole the show!! They have this insanely talented musician who performs Friday and Saturday nights starting at 6:30 PM .. he literally has his stage on a landing pad halfway up the staircase with his own little music kingdom. One guy. Several instruments. Electric guitar and saxophone were played effortlessly. You can make requests, which adds to the fun! For example, "Sweet Caroline" was a song that everyone sang along throughout the restaurant lol. Then came something I didn't expect. This musician has made it his personal mission to play our National Anthem on Fridays and Saturdays 7pm sharp. Everyone naturally stood -up, the whole room joined in, hand over their hearts, so much patriotic passion and energy. It was truly beautiful to see people come together in that moment. And just when I thought the night couldn't get better, out came a birthday dessert .. a warm homemade cookie with ice cream and a real sparkler. It was a show stopper!! I haven't seen a sparkler since I was ten lol. Apparently, birthdays are a big deal here, because it felt like every table around us had their own sparkler birthday/ anniversary moment. It was hilarious ... and I loved it! If you're looking for a memorable experience or just a relaxing delicious meal, nothing compares to Texas y'all. TIP: they have valet parking! It's a cool restaurant that has a lot of seating, and cool decor with Guitars displayed on the wall and a small stage for performers. We walked up to where you order. It was counter service and the guy that took our order was laid back. We paid, he gave us a number and then we chose a place to sit and waited for our food. We ordered several items to share. We started off with a charcuterie board that had meats, cheeses, nuts, fruit, and toasted bread. It was really good. The bread was able to hold the ingredients and was nice and crispy but not overly crispy. The meats were good and the different cheeses were flavorful with different textures. The fruit was fresh and the nuts were a nice crunchy addition. Very yummy start. We also shared the Tejas Nachos with Brisket. The Nachos come with tortilla chips covered in cheese, queso, jalapenos, tomatoes, and crema. They were okay. The Brisket was plentiful. There was a lot of cheese and queso spread out all over the nachos. It was a little too much. The chips got soggier the closer you got to the bottom of the pile. Our last shared item was the ZZ Top BBQ Flatbread. It was okay. It came with an overabundance of cheese. It also came with jalapenos, BBQ sauce, and we ordered it with Chicken. It was okay. The cheese was gooey but overwhelming. The jalapenos added a spicy flavor and the BBQ sauce was tasty. Overall the restaurant has a cool atmosphere with good service. The counter service, ordering and paying process was quick and easy. Everytime someone brought our food to us they were friendly. The food was okay and literally very cheesy.
