Saturday date night,walked in to the hacienda style Tex Mex and greeted with a smile. Ordered ground beef chimichanga with rice and beans, smothered in queso. Iced tea to enjoy as well. Food came reasonably quick, 5 or 6 other couples enjoying their evening here as well. Chips and salsa arrived and that homemade black bean dip is fantastic. My lady ordered shredded chicken flautas , yes I forgot to take a picture . The flavor of everything was great. Two concerns and not a deal breaker, rice was barely warm and tea was barely tea. This used to be my PLACE to go. I was quite a regular. The queso is just a no. For me, queso is a "make it or break it" item on the menu. The only way I can describe the queso is powdery... it's most definitely not real cheese... it's kind of a mystery cheese powder that has been mixed with water...? No flavor and gritty... I don't want to knock this establishment too hard because I LOVE the atmosphere and LOVE the service I receive. It's ALWAYS beyond exceptional. Please please PLEASE serve a quality queso!! I would go 2.5 stars. The wife is adamant that it is a 2. I said a 3. So I split the difference. Positives: -the salsa is very flavorful and I liked it -the beef in the beef nachos is very well seasoned and delicious -the house frozen margaritas are very good, not at all a chemical taste -the beef taco was also very tasty and well-seasoned -the ambience is warm and friendly -service was good, no complaints Negatives: -the place needs a thorough cleaning, starting with the front door and going from there -the booster seat for the child was filthy. The wife wiped it down and the residue was pure black -the wife's flautas were soggy and greasy; the chicken was not seasoned and had no flavor -my chicken in the chicken enchilada had no flavor. Probably the same as in flats -the guacamole with the beef nachos was obviously old and had big black spots. It was a serving of guac that never should have come out of the kitchen. The fact that it was served reflects either indifference or unprofessionalism. -the small plates I asked for were dirty and had to be wiped clean by us To top it off, I had to listen to how our favorite Tex-Mex place is so much better in every way throughout the dinner. Step by step, item by item. The wife is right, of course, but Holy Frijoles could have been better which would have made my night a bit more enjoyable. OK - been going to this establishment for many, many years. watched it grow and mature. 1st, the good things - the place has been repainted on the inside (not sure when); but, it is fresh and bright. the service is attentive and quick. the food prep is quick out of the kitchen. the flavor of the dishes is consistent and fairly well seasoned. now - the not-so-good things - on our 4/20/24 visit - the salsa has lost its kick...good, but, no burn or fire...just tomatoey. big issue - the establishment took it upon itself to round up my tip to the next whole $$$ instead of what I'd entered. this seems to be a game being played in the Dallas / Addison / Richardson market where servers are playing with the final tip being charged to your account is greater than what the customer intends and writes on the ticket. i keep my copy of the receipt and i do check my accounts daily taking note of which places screw me and which don't. i've challenged some changes with my bank/credit card for refund or rejection and choose to just leave some alone and pledge to never visit them again. i know that 1 household never returning doesn't impact the operation; but, just be aware that your ticket may be changed after you go home. read more

Their food is not the same as 10-15 yrs ago, that is for sure. It is bland minimalist food. Bland boring food and prices up, forget it man. I called them out tonight on charging a mandatory 20% tip on parties of 6 or more and NOT DISCLOSING IT. They reissued the checks, but that is sneaky restaurant crap. For their prices you can get good "Tex-Mex" right down the street and have it be tasty. Having late lunch here with Wifey. I ordered Fajitas Marinadas (flank steak). My wife ordered carne asada. The corn chips are fresh and their salsa dip is good. The beef flank steak for my fajitas were sliced thin and comes with sautéed green peppers and onions. Beans, rice, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole on the side. Long time customer more than once a month but recently service a food quality have declined. We received a coupon in mail packet advertising fajitas special on Mondays in August. Last night we visited and asked about the advertised special. The server nor the manager knew anything about the special nor were they willing to accept our word regarding the offer. Despite the disappointment we stayed and ordered off the menu. The order was brought to the table with only 2 of the 3 orders correct. The server was somewhat put out that we asked him to correct it. In short, a continued decline in what was once a neighborhood gem. It is time for us to move on to a new neighborhood restaurant...one in which the servers are polite, the manager knowledgeable, and they stand behind their advertising. First time here, from out of town came here on recommendation. I ordered the Guiso Norteño (Northern Stew). I usually eat Tacos, Burritos, Sopes at Tex/Mex places, but wanted to try something I've never had before. Glad I did! The dish was filled with beef and jalepeños and stew was amazing. I had been looking forward to eating at this restaurants for a few months, waiting for a time when I would be in the area so I could try it out. I finally got tired of waiting and, having nothing better to do today, drove over 30 minutes from my place just to visit what I had hoped would be a great meal. Unfortunately, I did not get an opportunity to eat as I left shortly after I arrived. I brought in one of the restaurant's coupons from the Entertainment Coupon Book. It was for 25% off the total bill with a maximum discount of $25. As I always do when I have a coupon, I asked the waiter if there was anything on the menu that I could not use the coupon on. He took it to the manager (maybe the owner?), who tried to tell me that I had to order at least $25 in food to use the coupon. When I pointed out that the $25 on the coupon was the maximum discount and that there was no minimum ordering requirement on it, he simply said "no discount." He had zero interest in honoring a coupon that they had put out. The server was apologetic as I left, but the manager refused to look me in the eye. I made the drive for nothing. read more

A hidden gem... a tiny hole in the wall Tex-Mex place. LOVE their enchiladas. Tacos are decent. The queso is clearly from a can, it kind of reminds me of ballpark cheese. But when they serve it with a little side of refried black beans (frijoles... get it?) it's ok. Affordable prices and huge plates. You will not leave this place hungry. We try to go once a month, on the weekends it never seems busy. I bet this place is packed during weekday lunch hours though. Went here for dinner with some friends, the place is very small but cozy. I started with their Queso $5.95 which was flavorful and creamy. They provide you with black bean dip as well which was very addicting and good. I had the San Miguel Combo $12.95 which came with a cheese taco, cheese enchilada, beef taco and a guacamole chalupa. I liked both the taco and the enchilada. The chalupa and the taco were just okay. They do need to work on their pouring water from pitchers for refills but all in all pretty good. read more

Our favorite menu items are the taco dinner with their fresh salsa, the San Miguel & also shrimp fajitas. The shrimp fajitas are jam packed with so many delicious veggies, very satisfying. My family and I like our food spicy; I often request fresh cut jalapeño on the side especially with HF queso is on the table. There aren't too many places that offer a true "cheese taco". They do!
