Moved to Dallas, Texas in 2007 and one of my first dates with my wife was Mi Cocina. In the last 19 years, I believe we've been to nearly every Mi Cocina in the greater DFW area. While the vast majority of our experiences have been very good, this specific store (Richardson) is the very best: (1) excellent food: (2) servers are fast, efficient, friendly and menu knowledgeable; (3) bartenders consistently mix a great Cosmo for the Mrs.; (4) family friendly (nice separation for when we bring the grandkids); (5) clean, (6) managers at every level welcome guests and survey clientele regularly; and (7) catering/to go orders never disappoint. Went for lunch on a Wednesday. Not crowded at all. Clean modern environment. Service was outstanding!! Lunch specials are reasonably priced. Highly recommend the sunset chicken enchiladas. I modified it to have one of the enchiladas be cheese and onion. The chicken enchilada was good, but I liked the cheese and onion one better. Hard to find a lot of Mexican restaurants that put enough onions in their cheese enchiladas anymore. I think onions are going the way of peanuts on planes. Only criticism I have is that the Chips just did not have anywhere close to the flavor of the chips at the Mi cocina on Forest and Preston. For whatever reason the Chips at Forest and Preston taste homemade, while these at lunch tasted like they were store-bought out of a bag. Maybe a one time thing. We have been coming to MiCo for year and have noticed the service at the location declining. Tonight we had Cameron as our server, and he was a GAME CHANGER. His service was next level and we felt like we were getting service at a fine dining place. He was friendly, and his attention to detail was next level. I usually try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but my experience at Mi Cocina was frustrating from start to finish. I placed an order online, but when I arrived, the order was incorrect. When I asked a staff member for help and showed her the online menu, she snatched the bag from my hands and told me she didn't understand the online system. That interaction alone was very unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. I then spoke with a manager about getting a refund since the order still wasn't right, but unfortunately, I never received it. To make things worse, the server brought out the same container again and insisted the order had been fixed--but it clearly hadn't. At that point, I didn't even want the food anymore, but no one seemed willing to make it . This experience left me very disappointed. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves both customer service and communication around online orders. read more

My fiancé and I aren't usually fans of Mexican food, but it was wonderful! The food was fresh and the portions are large for the price. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained as well. Our server was relatively inattentive (empty drinks, waiting a while to order), but everything else was wonderful. Edit: Docking one more star because we were charged almost TWENTY dollars for queso. Food is good, but they are always busy af, and you have to be a DoorDash driver for them to even look at you if you place a takeout order. Waited for 30 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my presence. I watched about 6 DoorDash drivers get their orders before me, and they all arrived after I did. And we tipped 20% on our takeout order. Idk if the owner is just too cheap or stupid to properly staff his restaurant or if he just doesn't care about his employees' well being and his customers' satisfaction. Probably both. read more

First time eating at this location. I was there with a group of friends celebrating a birthday. Our waiter came up, did not greet us, and took our drink orders. When we asked for refills on our drinks, he was extremely rude. He was snarky. We had been sitting there for quite awhile without refills. When the food arrived everyone at the table had lukewarm food. Our birthday girl had a balloon on her chair. He never once carried on any type of interaction with our group not even asking how was your food, whose birthday is, very cold and distant waiter. We stopped by here for a quick lunch the other day and were not disappointed. The brisket tacos are very good here - chunky, tender pieces of brisket folded in to appropriately toasted corn tortilla with a hint of cheese and spicy salsa on the side. What's not to love? The rice that comes on the side is delicious and very flavorful, chock-full of herbs and deep flavor. Our server was polite and kind. He refilled our drinks quickly and was knowledgeable about the menu. Guacamole was also very good and chips were fresh. The outdoor seating area is nice and spacious and also covered so you're not fully exposed to the heat and sun. Great place for outdoor lunch or casual dinner with friends or family. read more

My experience at this location did not go as I had imagined. Our server Mr.Efrain was very friendly to those at my table, but was not as engaged with us compared to other tables around. A table that was seated roughly 15 minutes after us ordered before us, and we waited another 10 minutes before we were given the opportunity to order food. I ordered the beef enchiladas, and received chicken instead. I began to eat my enchiladas after finishing my sides, and was enjoying myself with those at my table, until I bit into a bone that was in my enchiladas. I did not finish my meal, and I proceeded to ask for the check. The atmosphere is good with many families and friends, but it can get very loud during busy hours with tables being so close to each other. It was pretty hard to find anything redeeming about the food at Mi Cocina. Like other reviewers said, the food here is dry and bland. Seriously, not a grain of salt detected on anything. Weirdest chips I've ever tasted. Cannot put my finger on it but they're not appetizing at all. Ordered guac to go with them, and while the portion is generous, the flavor is poor. There's just no taste but avocado. No onion, cilantro, lime, salt, nada. I was craving fajitas but seeing fellow Yelper pics of the onion basket the meat's served upon (like, how?) I ordered the brisket tacos instead and just could not believe how dry and boring they were. I poured salsa, guac, arroz verde, and salt on top to get something going. It was just so weak. My wife was shocked to see a Mexican restaurant have ONE burrito on the menu with NO description so I suggested the crispy chicken enchiladas verdes since it sounded similar to what I cook at home. What. A. Joke. They're not enchiladas. They're tiny, frozen taquitos! Then they just pour (once again) flavorless green sauce and a shameless squirt of crema on top and call it something worth paying for. She couldn't even finish it. Then there's their lime juice, err, their margaritas. No, it's juice. Where Mi Cocina lacks in salt for their food they overcompensate with sweetness for their margaritas. It was not worth finishing, but I did anyway because I figured if I at least chugged the bottom half I'd feel a little relaxed. But apparently the tequila is in some other margarita in some other restaurant. $9 juice. Then there's that irritated sigh of seeing a high-price bill for such poor culinary craftsmanship. That sealed any shot of giving Mi Cocina a second try. Surely any place will surpass them on all fronts. It really can't get worse. read more

Mi Cocina has jumped the shark, as in leaped-frogged it. I used to go all the time, various locations, back then (a good decade ago) it was always a place to go to get food that was a step up from Tex-Mex. A little bit higher league. Then, well before Covid, it was sliding, just not as good anymore. Tonight, wow, just sloppin' it out, no effort on any front. Food was tasteless, not to mention room temperature. A $12 skinny margarita is basically powdered mix with some tequila? I mean at least squeeze a lime or something. I had the 57 special to taste alot of things. Ground beef in the enchilada and taco was tasteless. How about a taco shell that is a step up from the grocery store? Nope. Tamale was OK but how bland can we get it? Everything, bland bland bland. I'm not asking for spicy hot, I'm asking for a few spices so I feel like I'm actually eating something not served in a cafeteria. It's sad, this place is a complete yawn and disappointment these days. UPDATE: Updating after the response from the management. The thing is, what I said is true of MANY places, especially in TexMex. The response is simply damage control on social media from the corporate parent. There will be ZERO change. If they wanted some change, they would ask and respond. This is by far the best Mi Cocina! We previously frequented a different location until about 3 years ago when we changed to the Campbell location. This location is not the closest to our house, but well worth the extra drive. We have never had a bad experience here. The manager, Amok, was very accommodating. Our office was having a going away luncheon and 16 people RSVP'd. When we gathered for lunch, we had 23 people. The team at Mi Cocina quickly allocated more seating even though they were busy with the lunch rush. They let our team members pay individually which most restaurants don't allow for large parties.
