I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner experience at Mi Cocina earlier this week. For a weekday night, it was so busy but we managed to get a table fairly easily. I hadn't been to this location specifically, but the inside is pretty similar to the Plano Legacy one. It's cozy and dim-lit. Mi Cocina's salsa is always great. Additionally, I really like their Mambo Limouisine over their classic Taxi. The chambord float is so good and for an extra $1 you get a more premium marg. My husband really liked his first Mambo Taxi. I was pleasantly surprised Mi Cocina had added a bunch of vegetarian and vegan options to their menu. It was long overdue and will definitely entice me to come back next time I'm in Dallas. Between 3 people, we shared veggie enchiladas and veggie fajitas. This is a Dallas chain, or at least you can find them sprinkled throughout nearly every neighborhood. I have been a few times and the food is okay. However what you can count on them for is usually getting seated quickly and a tasty margarita. The restaurant has a nice upscale feel versus hole in the wall. We have been here for these reasons. My rating is 3.5. The food is more a four. On Sunday night, my boyfriend and I were determining where we wanted to go for dinner. I had mentioned that we hadn't tried Tex-Mex yet. It seemed weird to not go for it while we were in Texas. He told me that his training colleague went out for dinner at a Mi Cocina close to the office. He wasn't hungry that night and only had a salad. He was game to try more items off the menu. I did a search and found this location that was the closest one to our hotel. I had to look up what cocina meant. Sorry, folks. I only took English, French, and Chinese all through high school. A fourth language would have killed me. We drove over there. It probably took us fifteen minutes. We found decent parking, as it's in a plaza. We walked in and were immediately seated. We both found it odd that a handful of couples were seated between two large family tables. There were at least a dozen folks at each one. One word to describe the dining experience: loud. The table behind us had a woman who kept on cackling, likely excited to see her grandchildren. She chased after them. She cackled. She talked to a few teenagers at the table. She cackled again. She sat down at the table and talked with adults. She cackled some more. I got so tired of her cackling that I ended up calling her cackle woman and could imitate her cackle by the end of our meal. My boyfriend cracked up. He thankfully doesn't cackle. Our server was responsive and nice. He started us off with water, chips, and salsa. For those who don't like sharing salsa, this establishment gives each person a bowl of salsa. My boyfriend loves all things tomato. He devoured his salsa, I gave him some of mine, and our server came back with salsa refills. The chips were toasty warm, crunchy, and addictive. This place gets high marks for its chips and salsa. I ordered #11 off the menu. It consisted of a beef taco and a chicken burrito, served with arroz y frijoles and choice of side sauce. I went with chili con carne. He ordered the chicken fajitas, likely to match his sizzling personality... haha. His order came with guacamole, salsa, refried beans, rice, and tortillas. We both loved our food. Everything we ate had so much flavour and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. I absolutely did not want my meal to end. The beef taco was delicious. The shell was crunchy and the beef was seasoned perfectly. I loved my chicken burrito. The chicken was tender and flavourful. I love refried beans. I could eat them every day. I liked the side salad, to make you remember that you can squeeze your veggies in. The rice was perfect. I ate it all up. And, the chili con carne was so good. I ended up putting most of it on top of my chicken burrito. He loved his chicken fajitas and building each tortilla. At one point, he asked me whether I wanted some because the portion size was generous. I couldn't down any more food. He did a good job finishing his. The food is delicious here. You have done it again, Mi Cocina! Upon walking into the restaurant (an all time favorite of my wife John) I am greeted by a nice employee by the name of J. He doesn't say anything but he is Holding a bouquet of flowers! Wondrous. i say "Thank You," take the flowers, and take a seat. J says those were not for me and takes the flowers back. Very fair. I completely understand. "It will not affect your tip," I say. I ordered seven mambo taxis to start, WONDROUS! John says they have tequila in them and maybe i shouldn't order so much. i don't know about that.... I Thought it is just Mambo and taxi? I found PLASTIC in my to go order!!! For such a big chain, the quality control is utterly lacking and frankly shameful. Someone could have choked on this plastic in the food. I'm never eating here again and recommending others to find alternatives to MiCocina. After all, Tex-Mex restaurants are dime a dozen in the DFW area so that's not a challenging endeavor. read more

Maybe.. I was too excited to try this place? If Taco Bell was an actual sit down restaurant and not fast food.. this would be it, and I would say that's the a generous comparison. We sat outside as it was lovely weather for it, and we started with a bowl of queso.. a jiggly gelatinous bowl of what could be compared to canned queso. I ordered the Luann's. It was supposed to be a guacamole chalupa, a beef taco, a cheese taco, and a cheese enchilada. I don't know what I was expecting.. but it was FAR from what I got. They gave me a tostada with guacamole. A hard shell taco with a side salad I guess to garnish my taco. And two tortillas with COLD cheese in the middle. One with red sauce and one smothered in the awful queso. It came with oxidized rice and watery beans. My boyfriend got the crispy salsa Verde flautas. He loved his dish. It was crispy and had great flavor. I sent my enchiladas back and asked for new ones with the cheese melted. My second plate came the absolute same as the first. We also shared the ceviche. It was fresh but heavily lacked flavor. It was good with some extra lime juice and we could've used salt for sure . My strawberry margarita was great. My boyfriend ordered a ranch water. Our bill was $98. Over all.. the price and the food quality do not add up. I would absolutely pay $98 for a great Tex mex meal. However $98 for that of fast food quality. I feel absolutely robbed and we will not be returning. One & done for me! read more

Waiter was not friendly, maybe shy, never introduced himself, still dont know his name. Was good at keeping drinks full though. Table chips and salsa good, a little spicy. Tried the mama's tacos and it was really good. Others got Deluxe 57(?) and spinach enchiladas. She said Veggies on enchiladas were fantastic but insides of enchilada were flat and boring - just spinach. Ambiance was good, not loud. Loved their christmas decor. We love to eat lunch or dinner here a couple of times a month. It is a laid back Tex-Mex style restaurant which has been around a while and is pretty established/popular. It can get take a while to get your food, so it is good plan to enjoy good conversation or an appetizer. Even so, the portion sizes are good and the food is tasty. They are generally agreeable about dietary specifications but not always (depends on what server you get). Our favorite meal is the vegetarian fajitas, and our favorite waiter is Hector who always has a sweet smile on his face & is eager to please. (Watch out for the frowny server!) read more

We've been coming to this restaurant off and on for years. This weekend was the last straw. It was the second time of recent that we went the entire meal without a waiter. Service was spotty and done by a couple of people. Neither time was there an apology or any change of bill. The food was hot but Sunset enchiladas were dry & skimpy inside. Chips were cold and thick, salsa was good, and margarita strong. Water & tea refills had to be chased down more than once. There was nobody to bring a bill/pay. Had to chase down a manager to pay both times! Paying a lot for cheap food should come with better service. And, when it all goes south management should step up and make amends. This weekend the man who tried to help us during the evening offered to pay for our food and the manager just stood there, silent. Really?! I'm not letting someone who tried to help pay for our meal. So unimpressed with the manager!! After two back-to-back bad experiences we're OUT. There are plenty other places to get Tex-Mex in this town. FYI, they kept empty tables while telling walk-ups it would be an hour wait. And, they seated people in front of us. Hubby had to go to hostess to be seated after a 30 minute wait. Had a fair experience here, mostly good. No real bad to say other than my timing when getting home from work so all I wanted to do was read and relax. Staff was on par with their checking up, neither neglected or overly approached. The drinks the way the bartenders made them were good. At the moment, a shame that the Paloma wasn't available. But to make up for it, I had the "limousine" and the "double barreled". Soothing drinks to help my work day end. Also the f you need a good pace to read and enjoy, I would recommend it here! Food was good, got myself a chicken quesadilla, for some reason that's my safe go to but it's decent overall. I would encourage others to discover the menu and have a little fun. This is Mi Cocina has consistently been one of the better locations and the dinner I had a while back was excellent. Surprisingly for a Sunday the restaurant was not too busy and we were quickly seated. Our server, Raul, was with us fast and provided friendly service the whole time. Another waitress was also assisting and made service very efficient. My fajitas came out fast and were perfect, and everything tasted great. I'll return here next time I am in Richardson for sure. read more

You know how the old saying goes... the food goes away, but the memories are forever. First and foremost, my chicken chimichanga was FABULOUS. Most of all, I made a lifelong friend today. I brought flowers to tip my waiter with, but as I was waiting for my table in the beautiful foyer, a man grabbed them from my hands (why did he grab the flowers?). I approach him and tell him they were not for him, to which he politely returned the flowers and apologized. As I am walking away from his table, the man begins aggressively sneezing. It would not stop! Must have been allergic. I returned to the table and had a good laugh with him once the sneezing subsided. Turns out us two were a match made in heaven! What a nice man. I failed to get his name, which I regret now, but I am sure we will run into each other somewhere soon. I enjoyed my FABULOUS chimichanga and (hopefully!) made a lifelong buddy today. We stopped here on a Wednesday evening for dinner with a friend. Mi Cocina is known for their margaritas and Mexican food, and we had a hankering for both. I started off with a glass of water and finally decided on the Mambo Taxi. Everyone was taking about it. The waiter practically handed them out and shared that it was the only way to go. To be honest, I was disappointed when he brought me a small glass. Hubby and friend ordered house margaritas and their glass was filled to the rim. However, four sips in, I knew why they were famous. Holy shit was that drink strong. I was buzzed all evening and I didn't hate it. You would think with the buzz that the food would have been delicious, or at least hit the spot. That is where my review drops to three stars. The food was incredibly mediocre. I ordered the appetizer sampler. The quesadillas were the only thing that was good. The nachos were average, the taquitos were flat out dry, and the queso had a weird film on top of the cheese. For two entrees (well one entree and the appetizer sampler) and two drinks, our bill came to around $50. A little steep for a Wednesday night Tex-mex hankering. I will return for the Mambo Taxi. We tried Mi Cocina for the first time tonight. We got sat and had to wait at least 15 minutes for anyone to come to our table even though the dining room was less than half full. The drinks were decent. I had their Mambo Taxi and my fiancée had their Skinny Margarita and both were passable. The salsa was so-so. We ordered the nacho appetizer and that was by far the best bit of the meal. I ordered the sunset enchiladas which were pretty lackluster but the spinach one was definitely better than the beef. My fiancée got the Rey's Plate. The tamale was very underwhelming, the enchilada was meh, and the taco was not very good at all. Their beef doesn't seem to be very well seasoned. I don't know that we will be back. Texas has too many good tex-mex places to need to go here again. I usually have a policy of giving places a second chance and maybe we will some day but it will probably be a long while. read more

Great experience from one of my "brave new world" meals! I was impressed at how the whole experience was almost touchless until the end...you upload your menu from scanning a QR code, waitstaff in masks and gloves, seating way far apart, food was delivered cloud. But then at the end; they bring you your bill in a bill jacket that you have no idea how many people have been touching. When you get the menu part right (touch free) how do you forget the bill jacket and have repeated touching of it. Think it through my friends!!!! read more

This is the Mi Cocina I grew up going to. I am sad to report that it has gone downhill. I witnessed staff tell someone with a certified service dog that they had to sit outside on the patio. Thank goodness other patrons intervened and helped to correct the situation. The portions at this location are consistently smaller than the other 3 locations that my family frequents. I stopped ordering from this location and will go to further ones for correct orders, better service, accurate wait times, curbside options- which parking is not an issue at this location, so there is no excuse to not follow the protocol that remains on their website- and much larger portion sizes. read more

Most Tex-Mex Restaurants are about the same. The difference is in Service, the drinks and the salsa. Online orders give you an estimated time; I gave an extra 10 minutes and had to wait about 5 minutes to be waited on. Naturally they couldn't find my order and finally said the kitchen is still working on it (code for the kitchen hadn't started on it). 20 minutes later the order was ready. When you add 5 minutes for the waitress to search for my order, equates to 40 minutes after the order was supposed to be ready. Did they offer me a seat or a glass of water while I waited - of course not. The food was nothing to rave about and if anything, a bit too salty. Clearly, they have all the business they can stand so there is no incentive for improvement. The issue is a lack of management oversite, Proper training and supervision. I'm sure they will fail to notice that they now will have one less customer. read more

This is my worst experience at. Mi Cocina ever... I went with a large party on a Sunday night. Our friends ordered a combo sunset fajita it came out cold our other friends ordered a combo fajitas to split and it never showed up. When they told the waiter they were missing their food he argued. My husband and I ordered a steak sunset fajitas to split it came out cold. We sent them back to get remade they came back microwaved. The middle hot the outside still cold. The manager told us they don't have microwaves however I doubt that as the scalding hot in the middle and the outer edges tough and cold is a signature of a microwave. I refused to eat sub par food. My husband ate one and quit because it was so terrible. When our friends finally got their fajitas after the argument with the waiter he still didn't bring them tortillas. Don't expect spectacular Mexican food here. Decent Tex-Mex is what you'll get. If you want true authentic Mexican food, look elsewhere. Food is okay here. Nothing special and I certainly wouldn't want to pay more than lunch prices for the food they serve here. With that being said, they have a wide array of choices here with a lunch menu Monday through Friday's for most items around $10. If you're thirsty after eating all the chips and salsa, which lacks any flavor and pretty much tastes like puréed tomatoes, have yourself a Mambo Taxi. Salsa was awful, typically always on point. Stopped serving Salmon because they do not want to pay for it. Was told it would cost $9 for adding a cup of bean soup to my meal tonight lol. We have eaten here at least once a week for years now. Sometimes service is great sometimes it is bad but we have always come back. This afternoon we went in for a margarita and some nachos. Raul got our drinks. He gave me a water along with my margarita and we ordered. I took a sip of my water and felt something in my mouth. I immediately took it out of my mouth and was absolutely DISGUSTED. We asked another server to have a manager or our waiter to come by. Our waiter showed up about 4 minutes later. We showed him. No manager ever came by our table the entire time. No explanation as to what it was was provided. We did see the manager eating with a server and another server standing there talking over near the restrooms. No one seemed to care. This place used to be the Gold Standard for me. But over the last few years, many other Tex-Mex places have popped up around the area that really take notice. That's not to say that this Mi Cocina has dropped in quality in any way, but their menu has pretty much been the same over the years and haven't done much to stay ahead of the game. While their food is still good, it doesn't stand out in any way anymore. I have a place if I want great enchiladas, I have another place if I want great brisket tacos, I have another place if I want great chips/salsa/queso, I have another place if I want great fajitas. One thing I do love about this place is the service. Been coming here for several years and they still have many wait staff that have been there all this time.
