Cute local Tex mex place. We sat on the patio which is nice and shaded and has cute fountains for ambiance. Server greeted us promptly and we were brought chips and salsa. I ordered a top shelf margarita- loved it. For an appetizer we had BOBs 4 layer dip- didn't look good when it came out but it was delicious. While the food isn't bad (let's be honest...you can throw a stick and find decent Tex-Mex in DFW), and many of the menu options are unique and flavorful, the service here is consistently disappointing. From the mediocre bar service to the inattentive wait staff, I'm not sure why we kept frequenting this establishment. Regardless, the last time we tried to eat here (on their patio), we were immediately turned off by a couple at the bar who traveled to the patio area to smoke. Literally at a table next to us. When we asked the staff about it, they told us that patrons could smoke on that side of the patio (despite the fact that this concept is in direct violation of the Richardson City ordinance: https://www.cor.net/departments/health-department/environmental-health/household-hazardous-waste-information/smoking-ordinance). We left without ordering and have not been back. So if you love some good old fashioned lung cancer with your chips and queso, I guess this place would be right up your alley. read more

I honestly don't know where to start. When I got to the bar I asked for a green tea shot, to which the waiter replied " we don't have that in stock". I was completely dumbfounded simply because I'm looking behind him and I see everything he needs to make it. I decided to just get a Jameson shot instead. I eventually ordered the enchiladas ( 1 chicken and 1 beef). I can't tell if it was the tortillas or the actual meat but it was absolutely nasty. The rice and beans were not much better. I now understand why I walked into a completely empty restaurant at 4:00 on a Sunday. Will never be back. We are frequent flyers at Nico's. Why? It's not the food but it's where everybody knows my name and we have become family. If you want suggestions, I would like healthier options, senior menus, real queso, and let's stop the canned chicken. It's too easy to boil chicken for the tortilla soup. I would love options like the black bean dip at Gloria's or even the jalapeño dip at Chuy's. How about some family recipes or maybe tamales... We eat here at least 1-2 per week. We usually have a great experience. The only reason I'm giving a 3 is because of the server. He was kind, helpful and attentive. Bar drinks took forever. Restaurant was not busy. Food came out wrong. Took forever to remake. Zucchini came out hard the second time and the avocado was not ripe. Such a bummer because it's usually good. Others have written about the service here. They are not exaggerating. I've also read the drinks are nice and strong. They are. Chips and salsa were also enjoyable. Service: if it weren't for Jack & Janet, I would have given them 1 star all together. The first two waiters walked right past me. I flagged them for help. They never showed up again. Janet and Jack both recognized me and assisted at their earliest. They were swamped with no busboys. After these two got me seated, one of the first two waiters that had initially walked by me came to the table repeatedly asking me about my service dog. (Spanish guy, and only one wearing a mask.) And if I understood him, he asked if I had a card for him. Someone should let him know that ADA discrimination is a federal offense and a lawsuit. I saw Janet hustling all night for other tables. Being so gracious and kind. Jack, I cannot say enough about his level of service. I wish I could take Jack with me everywhere. Maybe he could train others on how to make guests dining experience an awesome one -- even when the food is not hitting the mark. That kind of service is a dying breed. Went here today for father day and they had an amazing breakfast/lunch buffet! We asked them how often they do their buffet and our server said every Sunday but since customers don't know come that early they might stop doing them. But their food consisted of a taco bar, omelet bar, dessert section, rice/beans, enchiladas (red&verde) , migas, potatoes. Everything was GOOD! Even our waiter was so kind and funny. Do you and your staff dislike us? It is Sat night, hours posted on door show Sat closing time 10pm. We were told to leave the bar at 9:20pm tonight before finishing our drink. Why would we ever want to return? There were other customers forced to leave before us. Ourselves and lots of our friends have been customers of yours for 20 years. Again, why should any of us return? Do you care that we are disappointed? There are other area restaurants and bars do you care if we return or not? In my opinion, unfriendlyness, hours, rising prices and unflavored food will keep causing a decline in business. We don't eat there as often as previously because the food is not GREAT. But the margaritas are ok not as strong as before. Been noticing less and less people at Nico's. Last week, I posted on a FB group page that your cocktail prices and margaritas were good and the large number of comments that followed were NOT positve. Nico nico no! We came here for an early dinner and sadly did not enjoy our food. The decor was nice and the service was decent. However, the only food that we found to our liking was the Chips and Salsa. It was very nice that the waiter checked on us and refilled our chips and salsa without a fuss. However when the food came out, it became an unenjoyable experience. Wife had the tacos pastor plate, and she did not enjoy it. The tacos were packed with some kind of super melted cheese, seemed like mozzarella, and she basically was unable to eat it. It also had pineapple, which wasn't the worst thing, but far from a class tacos pastor I had the Nico Special (nico nico niiii!), and overall it was lackluster. The tamale and enchilada were "fine", but the chile relleno seemed undercooked and also was stuffed with this thicc mozzarella cheese that chewed like bubblegum. We didn't want to take the food home so we kind of had to just finish what we could. Sorry, but I don't think we'll be giving the place another shot. 2 stars for the good service and the chips/salsa tho! read more

I came here for a dinner with the girls on a Friday night in hopes of having an amazing rita and good food. They deliver on some fronts but not both. We started with queso which arrived cold and was sent back. The queso has sour cream and beef inside and the waiter opted to nuke it in the microwave which makes sour cream pretty nasty. The manager passed by so we asked him to get us a fresh one and he delivered. The margarita special during happy hour was discounted but the Ritas lacked enough alcohol to be memorable and tasted like lemonade. I ordered the ribeye for dinner and it came with rice and beans. The steak was marinated well and very juicy. It was prepared medium as I requested and the rice and beans were really good. The beans were borracho style rich I prefer to refried beans. Waiters Need to work on table Etiquette. One said, What did you say and handed me my drink instead of putting it on the table. Felt like bad service from a small town sadly. I went here for dinner with some friends on a Friday night. Their chips and salsa were good, the salsa had a nice kick but not to spicy. I started with their Queso Bowl $6.25 but this was just terrible, flavorless and soupy. I got the Beef Fajitas $14.50 for my entree which was perfectly cooked and very tender and juicy. The rice and beans were also bland as well. The server seemed to be in a rush trying to get us to order before we were ready and bringing us our checks a little after the entrees came out. This is not a good place to have if you're really in the mood for Tex Mex. our family and friends ate there last Thursday and the overall food experience was poor. For an appetizer we ordered the queso dip which you could totally tell it was basically a knock down version of Processed cheese. I ordered the shrimp cocktail which is described to be six jumbo size shrimp in a spicy sauce but what I got was mini salad shrimp that you could tell was frozen for a long time defrosted and placed in their sauce. My daughter ordered the chicken fingers with french fries. The chicken fingers were frozen and reheated and tasted very old. My wife ordered the brisket tacos and it was very dry. Not sure what my friends ordered but they didn't seem to be pleased either. Would definitely not recommend this place at all. read more
