    Pizza man

I'm going to miss this pizza place. The pizza is pretty good and my favorite in Eagle river. But I won't order pizza there ever again. Every time I order and pay cash the driver says they don't have change. Literally everytime. So I'm forced forced to give 20-40 dollars tips because they "they dont have change" . As you can see on the recipe it says I'm using a 100 dollar bill. This was the last time. Do not pay with cash if you order delivery.

We stopped in for lunch today and it's changed a little since the last time we visited. The food is good, not as good as I remember but still really good. We sat in the back room this time and it's well smelly. Like old building/people smell. We got a cheese pizza and the pizza man special. Everything is made when you order it so plan on waiting a bit. My sister got the salad bar and that was still spot on. I ate a few of her lettuce leaves and dressing lol. The pizza man special has pepperoni, salami, sausage, black olives, green peppers, extra cheese and we added tomato on top. Oh and extra sauce one one half. On my half i said no black olives, add extra sauce. Well that extra sauce cause my dough to be raw. The other side was cooked fine. But yall they made a whole new pizza and we took it to go. Except this time we did the sauce on the side. We now have enough pizza everyone can get 2 slices.

I'm impressed. The meatball pizza (add ricotta) AMAZING! The crust is so good and I love a good crust. It's a no frills, dive type place but the service is friendly and the pizza was delicious! They accommodated our party of 9 with a smile. This could be a 5 star review if they clean the place up more and invest in better decor.

With 8 visits under our belt it's time to put pen to paper regarding Pizzaman. It gets a decent thumbs up from us. They have the most complete salad bar I've seen in a long time. Kidney beans, baby corn, chickpeas, cucs, shrooms, eggs and much, much more. You can order the return trip SB (we have) and forget everything else. The food is good, not great. I must say I had a teriyaki reindeer dinner over rice that was very tasty. The portion was so big I only finished half. It heated up nicely at home, too. I didn't care for their spaghetti or the lasagna. Let's talk pizza. They are in the top three for pizza with us. While they are a bit heavy on the sauce, the ingredients were terrific. Again, this heated up very well at home the next day. The biggest issue we have is the service. Very bad. Each time we visit there's a huge party in the back room. They are understaffed for starters and their timing is not the best. When the salad arrives WITH the pizza or it's fifteen minutes between visits from the server, there's a problem. Over the weekend, we were so hungry and waited for an initial visit for so long, we just grabbed plates and went to the salad bar. The host was good enough to fetch us drinks. But the server never showed. Even though he said she was aware (not to mention she walked past us several times) she never stopped at the table until she greeted us by dropping off the check. We tipped him. This happened on a Saturday when the Bear Paw festival drew most of their customers away. Carry out may be your best bet on this place and avoid the iced tea. Watered down and zero flavour. 07/22

For me, coming here in the future my place will be at the bar with appetizers. Bar environment is 5/5 As far as the rest goes I think the food is good, not spectacular. 3/5. In the future I think I'd come for an appetizer and a couple of drinks and that's it. I felt the veal was tough on both ordered plates and potentially I would have preferred chicken. That being said the sauce was great. The grappa sauce had amazing flavor and the Marsala sauce also had great flavor. Plus the funghi appetizer was great with the bread. All of it was enjoyable enough for a return visit. This spot has very friendly staff, they move at a classic Alaska pace. Meant for sitting down and enjoying the company of someone you're eating with but not designed for getting in and out the door quickly. Come with the intention to get things as they come and enjoy the ride.

The family that owns and operates this gem is Greek and they are not only amazing cooks, but they care about their community!! I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. You will love it!

Most often, I leave a steak house thinking I could make a better steak for a fraction of the price at home. This was not the case here. The service was also good, which is a nice change for the area. We live here and quite frankly, the service in the Anchorage area is usually pretty marginal. So, that was a pleasant surprise. However, the sides are quite expensive and billed as "family style" but they are a single serving really. The exception was the Parker House rolls which I think came out 5 to an order. They were pulled apart and the sides of the rolls were dry, as if they had been plated up and set under a heat lamp for too long. The risotto was prepared incorrectly. It was mushy with no hint of the classic al dente. I think if they can't take the time to cook that dish correctly, they should consider taking it off the menu as it is a marker for a good meal in my opinion. The wedge salad was pretty standard fare, with a couple of heirloom tomato slices that were also mushy (although, I can forgive that given where we live as the lettuce was crisp and nice) The other side we ordered was a special, fiddlehead ferns, served braised. They were tasty, and the best non steak item we had, but a small portion and, I think $23, which seemed quite expensive. I think the next time we go, we will just share a steak with a glass of wine and skip the overpriced 15-25 side dishes.

Both are packed with flavor. Whether ordering in or ordering to go, keep in mind it takes quite a while--almost 10 to 15 mins--for the staff to make your sandwich, so I wouldn't recommend that you stop here in you're in a hurry because you're not going to get it out fast. In this case, call ahead about 30 mins or so if you're picking up. The prices are a little high, but it's worth the price for the quality of the food you're getting, which I can't say for most restaurants in the present era (2020s for those that are reading this in the 2030s and 2040s, if this platform still exists then lol!) Either way, the quality is HIGH and the flavor factor? HIGH! The Classic Piadina is very fresh tasting and comes with greens. It only comes in one size, so it's a little small for me. Still delicious! The Nonni is a pretty large sandwich, if you're getting the full sandwich. The onions combine with the meat enhances the flavors. The building that Originale is in presents itself as a very quaint and relaxed lunch spot with bright colors and large windows. It's a place you can go to sit and talk with friends. I went with the "Favorito," and let's just say, it instantly earned its name. The prosciutto cotto was pure-savory-bliss-melt-in-your-mouth good. And the focaccia- fresh, herby, and perfectly balanced in thickness. It hugged the fillings just right without stealing the show. Also, the tomatoes- I did not expect them to be so buttery and delicious. I may have paused mid-bite to appreciate them. Yes, I'm that person. As a die-hard cheese lover, the little bonus cube of cheese on the side felt like a tiny gift--like the sandwich was giving me a wink and saying, "Hey, I see you." Originale, I'll be back.
