There were 5 of us going for dinner, and this would not have been my choice. They did give us a nice corner booth, however one of our party didn't turn up, so it was wasted on us. Our server was patient, and very pleasant, bearing in mind that one of our party was a crotchety old man. Prior to ordering, he and i arrived first, and were perusing the menu, and he was relating the items he liked, and what he planned to order. He told me he liked both Shrimp Scampi and Shrimp Sinatra. Our other 2 attendees arrived and we ordered - i got Italian Chicken, which came with Soup or Salad, and Garlic Bread. Crotchety Old Man ordered Shrimp Scampi, I'll leave out the other 2 in the party, because I'm the reviewer, and i can only give feedback on what i ate, and my experience. I got the lemon chicken soup, i did like that, it was quite a thick soup, and the citrus flavour was noticeable, but not overpowering. I did get some chunks of chicken in the soup The entrees came out relatively quickly, and IMMEDIATELY there's an issue. Crotchety Old Man announces that he ordered Shrimp Sinatra, and he does not want "that" and he was actually quite rude about it (Hence the name I've given him) the 3 of us and the server told him he had ordered Shrimp Scampi, and he was getting ruder, "Take it away, i don't care what you do with it" and the highly patient server, said she'd have a Shrimp Sinatra made for him. Honestly, I'd have walked off, hence why I'm not a server I did not wait for his entree to be served, as it was WAY past my personal dinnertime, and I'd already been hangry when i got there. Ok, so there was a huge amount of food. Mine was served on fettucine noodles, in a white wine and lemon sauce, with what appeared to be 2 chicken breasts, butterflied. Some parts of the chicken were very tender and juicy, others seemed to be quite tough. The noodles were ok, the sauce was not that creamy, and somewhat lacking. Just ok. The garlic bread - i am not a fan. I like my garlic bread to be made from scratch with real butter, and real garlic, and in my opinion this was not that. I make good garlic bread at home. And it like it made with a french baguette, aka small round slices, with liberal tiny pieces of freshly diced garlic. I rarely use garlic powder or onion powder at home. I prefer real garlic, real onion. I will say that quality beats quantity every time. Serving me a huge pile of food won't impress me. I will not take this home in a box. It's just not worth the calories. Just give me 1 butterflied chicken breast, juicy, tender, well seasoned, over an adequate portion of beautifully cooked noodles, in a perfectly creamy white wine sauce, topped with browned, finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano and my eyes will roll in my head with delight. read more

Ordered via DoorDash at 6:45 on a Thursday night and the food was delivered by 7:20. It was steaming hot and fresh. It had to cool for several minutes before we could eat. Ordered was spaghetti with meat sauce and marinara, fettuccine Alfredo, and a black olive pizza. All of the food was pleasantly appealing and well packaged and prepared. I did read a previous review that someone had found what looked like metal in their food. They line their to-go containers with foil, and unfortunately, the foil is not industrial thickness and will tear if you are trying to scrape up sauce with a fork, like we do. Now I personally prefer my own spaghetti, but their's was absolutely delicious and for just under $20 each there was what seemed like 3 pounds in the pasta containers. The fettuccine Alfredo was beautiful, noodles cooked to perfection and contained plenty of sauce. However, the sauce had almost no flavor, except that of mild heavy cream. It was lacking the signature Parmesan flavor, and I did not detect any garlic. I added a bit of garlic, some black pepper and a little sea salt and it transformed more into the amazing dish it is meant to be. I would order this again despite the lack of flavor, knowing this in advance. The black olive pizza was simple and fabulous. Black olives being the only additional topping to a standard pizza they sure made certain that there was plenty. Crust and sauce are very tasty and the pizza overall was good hot and then good cold later. The entrées also came with dinner salads and garlic bread. Please note that the salads contain one Kalamata olive each with the pit, so watch your teeth. I felt like overall they paid attention to quality food, preparation, and service. Wanted to go here since it had been many years ago that we had been here. Walked in and we were seated within 5 minutes on a Friday night at 6pm which is pretty amazing I thought. The place wasn't packed however I would say they were busy enough. Our server was Edward very nice man. We were in the mood for pizza and beer after looking over the menu we decided on the Mama Mia. I did ask if we could get the crust thin and I was told that was a 50/50 chance with the cook so we took our chance and ordered the Mamma Mia. The pizza tasted really good, I think the crust was more on medium but it was really tasty. This pizza does say it comes with extra sauce however I didn't see extra sauce but Edward was nice enough to bring us a little side of sauce. The beer prices are very reasonable as are the pizza prices. The extra large Mamma Mia was a little less then $30 and I don't know anywhere in Anchorage you can get an XL for that price. Trash. Sprite definitely didn't taste like sprite. Lemonade was 7/10. Calamari breading was off and the longer it sat the worse the consistency of the squid. Pepperoni pizza was good. Chicken Parmesan was dry, spaghetti included was nasty. Fettuccini Alfredo was made with boxed noodles and had a metallic taste so we left it where it was. Was a small bug in 1/3 salads. Service was fine. Music was like the Tom and Jerry show so wasn't bad. Restaurant was clean, Women's bathroom had weird setup and no toilet liners 5/10 cleanliness. Few ways to describe this place: It's a great place to take your grandparent's. It's a great place to take your Midwestern parents that "want to go someplace quiet, and we don't want to have to wait". As far as sit down, dimly-lit, Italian restaraunts in Anchorage, here's how it compares: Little Italy Restaurante: very similar food to here (if anything, slightly better) with much lower prices and worse ambiance. Fiori D'Italia: way worse food than Fiori, but also way better service than Fiori. Sorrento's: food is slightly worse than here, ambiance is way worse than here. Main negative here is that the ambiance is very, very lacking. The interior looks really beat up and the lighting is really unflattering. The food is good but not great. The service is above-average but, there is usually no one else in here, so it better be! If you haven't notice already, this place is pretty poorly named. It's much more of an Italian-American restaurant than it is a pizza place. read more

Omg born and raised, so How have I never eaten here?!?! I Was meeting my buddy for a last-in-awhile-meal (he's moving out of state. So needless to say, bittersweet) He suggested Pizza Plaza. It dawned on me. I've never been! We Walked in a little early (5:00 sharp) and were promptly greeted by the friendly hostess! I explained how I've never been here, she was so warm and welcoming! We were seated quickly and offered drinks and menus. Checking on us without being overbearing. We got the garlic cheese bread and a large supreme. That garlic cheese bread arrived hot fresh and cheesy! Sauce was warm and appeared homemade(?) either way it was delicious. When the pizza came it was one of those pizzas where you see it coming, and you just know that's gonna be a fantastic pie. And man, was it bomb! You can tell they use quality fresh ingredients. And that makes it a step above the rest. It was really good pizza. It came out quickly too. By the time we were finishing up eating, the place started filling up with the dinner crowd. We took our time eating. Talking. We weren't rushed away either. Eventually we had to face the music. We paid the bill. We mosied out to our cars. Said goodbye and until we see each other again. I was hesitant to try this place but it was the only Italian place open at the time. The outside looks kind of sketchy and it's in a strip mall parking lot. But the inside is pretty decent and not expected at all. Service was great. Good wasn't too bad. Price was kind of high for what it was but overall I was shocked. Pizza Plaza is a hole in the wall that I would never have ventured into had it not been for the fact that they're on doordash. I love a good french dip sandwich and so I chanced it one night and fell in love. Parking is convenient and there's definitely an old school Italian restaurant vibe. I've never had anything other than the French dip as once I find something I tend to order it over and over again. What can I say, it's just that good! read more

This was our first time to this establishment and we have lived here for over 23 years. Thanks to our grandson who suggested Pizza Plaza. The interior is nicely decorated. It has the Italian taste to it. The service was fast and friendly. Our waiter, Colin was very attentive to our needs. The appetizers were great. The stuffed mushrooms were outstanding. The pizzas were outstanding, good size and well covered with ingredients. These have to be the best ever. The size and price are great. My wife loved the eggplant parm. This restaurant will become a place we visit on a regular basis. We would highly recommend this place. read more

Visiting Anchorage and ate here last night. The front of the menu says "Fine dining since 1971". It probably was fine dining back then, but they clearly haven't updated their decor in a LONG time. That said, who cares? Are you there to look around or to eat? It may look dated, but it was clean, the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious and plentiful. The soups available with the meal were Lemon Chicken and Minestrone. We each tried a flavor and both were excellent. The entrees we had were the baked cheese ravioli and the chicken fettuccine with Di Roma (garlicky alfredo) sauce. Also excellent. Music is soft so you can actually speak to your table mate(s) without raising your voice. Next time I'm back in town, I will absolutely be back. Do not judge this book by its cover! read more

If you'd like to be shoved in the back corner after they make a scene because you got sat literally in the entry by the drafty door and it's too close --- then told "you can talk to the owner about it but they'll just yell at you" (WHAT!?) Then this is the place to go! Growing up we used to go here often, and things have been going down hill ever since. Good Italian is hard to come by in this town. Pizza Plaza is a better than decent option. We had lasagne and chicken parmigiana. It was a lot of food. Garlic bread was pretty good. Service was good. We went here last night with our adult kids to celebrate their birthdays. The good; no wait, nice table, friendly service, nice atmosphere. This is called Pizza Plaza but it's not just a Pizza place. It's an Italian restaurant. A full menu of steaks, seafood and pasta, as well as pasta. The not so good; they are short staffed. There were only 3 people running the place. They did well considering this. It was unfortunate that the waitress got my husband's order wrong, so we didn't get to eat together. My scallops Ala Plaza were wonderful. My son ordered the chicken and it was amazing also. Once my husband's steak came it was delicious. I love this place and will go there again. read more

Best French dip I've had in anchorage, comes with a side salad. The bread is so tender and crispy. The cheese was perfectly melted and gooey when you bit in and as I pulled a piece apart it had the perfect stringy ooey gooey cheesiness you want from a melted cheesey sandwich. And the meat is so tender, flavorful and juicy. Next time I'll ask for a side of horse radish. But I'd get this again it's soo good. I'm getting hungry writing this review. Very dated decor but great sauces, pizza and salads. They should use a salad spinner to dry out their salad mixes after prep. However the salads are always crisp and fresh. I am a fan of thoughtfully prepared thick sauce that takes days to prep. They do not spare the mozzarella cheese that is also very fresh. For a truly basic peasant Italian meal enjoy this place. Prices are very fair. The meal is plentiful, hearty, rich and very tasty. If I could leave zero stars, I absolutely would, without hesitation. Just went in to get a to-go pizza order, which we walked in the rain to grab, because we only live 700ft from the business. Halfway through eating his slice of pizza, my nine year old comes to get me, extremely upset, and shows me that he just found a piece of metal in his pizza. We call them, immediately, and let them know what happened, and we're told to bring the pizza with the metal back, which we do. My husband is encountered by the owner, who despite hearing from my son herself, goes OFF on my husband, and child stating that she does not care that they found the metal in the crust, because she will not remake it, or refund it, she's not giving a free pizza. Yells in my husbands face to call the health department because she DOES NOT CARE, and will not make a free pizza. She TAKES the pizza that WE ALREADY PAID FOR, and disposes of it, immediately, after putting her finger on the metal and claiming that it's foil. My husband is still being yelled at, and is made to leave without the $40 pizza we just bought for dinner, without a refund, BY THE GODDAMN OWNER HERSELF. Absolutely would not recommend, and will be telling everyone I know not to support such an awful human being. She literally stole from my family, on top of disrespecting my husband, and son. AND disposed of the evidence without even trying to remedy the issue, or just ALLOWING US TO HAVE WHAT WE PAID FOR. read more

Unprofessional business ordered and they got our Order wrong left to pick up the order. Called three times to let the business know was hung up on and when I arrived was yelled at in my face by not only the server but the cook also. I have been going to this restaurant for years and know this is not how the owner would want it run. I was yelled at and embarrassed over their snickety waitresses attitude who not only did not listen to my phone order which this has not been the first time. The cook then decided he had a right to decide what size salad he would make for my grandma because she doesn't eat a lot when she ordered a Caesar salad. They also did not send most of our order and when confronted they did not like it. I ordered a gyro and there was three pieces of meat on it. I'm honestly surprised to see the low ratings for Pizza Plaza. When I am craving carb overload, good pizza or an awesome salad, Pizza Plaza is always one of the go to restaurants in my rotation. Especially given I work in the area. I am always able to make it there and back again in a little under an hour. In fact there has only been a few times I have had any kind of service issues while eating at Pizza Plaza and those were long ago. Never once had any issues with the quality of food. I guess perhaps my string of luck is continuing? I happened to stop by on Saturday afternoon shortly after noon while out running errands. When I walked in I was not expecting to see the place completely empty. In fact I even wondered if they were open. But I was greeted and made a joke with the server on if they even had time to help me since they were so busy. She mentioned it had been abnormally quiet that day but she didn't mind because the place had been jumping on Friday night with several large parties and she was a bit glad for the downtime. I was craving pizza and salad that day and wanted a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with it. The type of pizza is more of a classic pizza with a slightly heavier crust. They are offered in sizes ranging from a 9" mini on up to an 18" X-Large. They also offer calzones and a greek style butter crust. I ordered a small combination that day and easily could have split it between 2-3 people. And in fact I took the leftovers home and enjoyed them for breakfast on Sunday morning. Yes I'm one of those that likes pizza for breakfast upon occasion. Pizza Plaza also offers Italian food including everything from spaghetti to ravioli as well as hot sandwiches such as gyros and French dips. They are actually known for their French dips and I have friends that rave about them. Like other Italian restaurants the portions are always generous and I can count on making a meal or two out of my leftovers. Their salads are also of gargantuan size. Really there is no part of Pizza Plaza I do not like and I will continue to keep coming back while I continue to encounter good food and good service. While the outside of the restaurant may have you hesitating because it's another non-descript strip mall in Anchorage, the inside houses roman columns and booths with brightly colored art adorning the wall. It was only in the last year or two that they added on a bar. Pizza Plaza is definitely one of the types of restaurants that has built a loyal clientele and it's not uncommon to be greeted by name upon your next visit. Even though I only go maybe 4-5 times a year they always remember my name and my orders. To me that is a sign of customer service. And Pizza Plaza always serves up solid food and service. Tried it for the first time today. I always start out my Yelp reviews with 5 stars because small-business is the absolute best part of our world. First, I was seated promptly, given a menu, and asked what I wanted to drink - + 2 stars (7 now). My order was taken quickly, salad & entree came out in a reasonable time - +2 stars (now 9). When my entree was delivered, I asked my waiter (Cole) to please bring me my check (which I normally do when I am dining alone). I had the Veal Parmesan (it was "ok") - minus 1 star (8 now). Cole did not bring my check, was not busy (I watched him talking with the other server repeatedly), and I had to wait after finishing my meal - minus 2 stars (6 now). When he finally came, I asked for a to-go box - and again had to wait while he "chatted" - minus 2 stars (4 now). I got tired of waiting for my credit card slip, so I went to the counter - minus 2 stars (2 - final). read more

A massive amount of ok Italian food, moderately priced. Not too much more to add, honestly. I had the Rigatoni al Rico, which came with soup or salad. I chose the lemon chicken soup, which sounded weird and tasted as such. The pasta itself was bountiful: rigatoni in meat sauce with cheese, ham, and mushrooms baked on top. It was a lot of food, but too salty for my taste while at the same time lacking in the flavor department. So much promise squandered :( I had a piece of six-layer chocolate cake. Same story as the pasta, extremely rich a sweet but not much else going on. I left with 1/4 of the pasta left and I was beyond uncomfortably full.
